Indie line Sonoma Scent Studio has launched Nostalgie:
This fragrance, inspired by the classic scents of the past, features aldehydic topnotes, a heart of precious jasmine, rose, and mimosa absolutes, and a base of Mysore sandalwood, natural oakmoss, violet leaf absolute, tonka, amber, vanilla, orris, and musk. Nostalgie dries down to a warm, lightly spiced amber and sandalwood base with soft floral accents. Fragrances today are rarely composed with so many fine naturals; the ingredients and the style rekindle memories of vintage perfumes.
Additional notes include peach, violet flower, beeswax, patchouli, leather, myrrh and vetiver.
Sonoma Scent Studio Nostalgie is available in 5 ($21), 17 ($54) and 34 ($105) ml Parfum.

I’ve been looking forward to this release very much and can’t wait to try it. It sounds fantastic and like it does ‘vintage’ very well. *happydance*
🙂
I have a sample (will be doing a full review on Friday) and can say that it is definitely worth smelling if you like classic florals. Lovely stuff.
I just got my sample but haven’t smelled it yet — will look forward to your review.
This could actually be really interesting.
Yep!
sounds nice. and i really like the new bottles.
I do too…nice packaging.
This sounds beautiful enough that I might have to ignore my poor track record with SSS and give it a go.
Well, I have to say that it “smells like an SSS” to me, if that’s been a problem in the past. But it’s just a sample, not that expensive…
Hi Mals. Can you describe the commonality in SSS frags? I haven’t yet tried any but was planning a purchase in the next couple months. So curious! Especially about this one.
AbScent — I realize this query was addressed to Mals, but I hope you don’t mind if I add my bit . All the SSS offerings I’ve tried (Tabac Aurea, Incense Pure, Ambre Noir, and Champagne de Bois) have been characterized by what I first thought was a very strong, sweet, tenacious musk that nearly made me physically ill.
However, Rappleyea (who knows the SSS line very well) pointed out to me that CdB doesn’t actually have musk — she thinks the problem might be the labdanum absolute that’s in all four scents. Whatever it was, it completely dominated my experience of TA, IP, and AN — I did a little better with CdB, in that I could make out other elements of the fragrance and wasn’t immediately compelled to scrub it off.
I usually love labdanum and other amber materials, so this is a very odd experience indeed. I do hope you’ll try some SSS stuff, though — I plan to experiment with some of the line’s non-labdanum’d offerings.
What I notice about the SSS scents is that they are all “parfum-y,” in other words, longer-lasting and almost like essential oils in their feel.
I got a sample of Nostalgie in my set of samples last week (she sent me one before it had been filtered, since I asked nice!). Although I certainly don’t have the most educated nose by a long shot, I really liked it. My notes after an initial sniff (haven’t tried wearing it for a day, yet) say, “very classic feeling with aldehydes and jasmine. Chypree-feeling oakmoss and violet leaf. A touch of earthy orris peaks through. There’s a touch of something ‘dirty’ as it dries down.–Really like it, I think?”
I’ve been trying to limit sampling lately but this may prove too much temptation – it sounds lovely.
This one is a beauty. It’s such a rich mix, really worthy of the term “vintage inspired.” Looking to getting a bottle!
I got a sample and it is very “Grandma’s bathroom” to me – which is good, actually, my Grams had nice-smelling toiletries. It is quite powdery in a spot-on vintage way. Good lasting power, too!
How coincidental for this to be written up today. After the weekend’s poll, SSS was mentioned so many times, I checked out their website and Nostalgie leapt from the screen at me and I immediately ordered a spray sample. Sounds like vintage vibed frags are making a bit a return (I hope). Can’t wait to try it!
I got a sample of this last week and I was both surprised and, unfortunately, disappointed. I expected to love this and I don’t. It does smell vintage to me, but not in the way I expected. It smells (to me at least), much greener than I expected. I am not too fond of green florals or green chypres, so I don’t think it will work for me.
I am afraid I have been having a run of bad luck with samples lately. I had three sample order come in last week, a total of 14 new (to me anyway) perfumes, and I haven’t loved any of them. I don’t like Miriam, I can’t stand Mon Parfum Cheri (and I normally like patchouli), Lemon Cloud was OK but too faint and fleeting to be FBW, none of the Tauers smelled good on me, and so on. Secret Garden is very pretty, but has absolutely no staying power on my perfume eating skin. Here I actually have money to spend, and I can’t find a perfume to spend it on! I must be getting jaded.
My advice is to tuck that money away. Just when you think there’s nothing you want, you’ll suddently be jonesin’ for 5 new Amouages. Just when you thought it was safe . . . . .
What a frustration, but perhaps you are in the early stages of an allergy attack or head cold? Sometimes my nose knows ahead of time that I’m on the start of some ailment. On the other hand, there are definitely runs of bad luck in the sample department–just check my bottom drawer . . . and the box under my bed . . . .
