More limited edition collector fragrance bottles, with the usual disclaimers: in most of these cases, the juice is unchanged, just the bottle is “special” (or not, as the case may be), and some of these may not be available in the US.
From Bond no. 9, the "Incandescent Shooting Super Star", with 100 ml of their Scent of Peace Eau de Parfum...."decked out all over with those Swarovski crystals-the moonlit exterior emphasizing the preciousness of the contents. Even the oval cap and the keepsake silver-toned presentation box are studded with stones." $1,000 and available now for pre-order at Saks Fifth Avenue.
From Oscar de la Renta, a solid perfume cocktail ring with 2 refills in the Esprit d'Oscar fragrance. $65, sold only through the brand's Facebook page while supplies last.
From Swarovski, Aura in the "Crystal Drops Sparkling Solid Perfume Jewel" edition: "Crystal is transformed into a luminescent perfumed jewel. In it's heart lies a powdery, shimmering texture delicately scented with the Aura fragrance." £75 at Harrods in the UK.
More Swarovski Aura: "Aura by Swarovski Extract - like a precious jewel, this bottle is presented in a luxurious jewellery leather case. This 30ml extract is a highly concentrated version of Aura by Swarovski for an intense experience." Also at Harrods, currently marked at £44, but it seems unlikely that that is the correct price. This series also includes a 50 ml bottle of Eau de Parfum Intense (£195) and a jar of perfumed body cream (£65).
It continues to kill me every time I see something marketed as having Swarovski suddenly becoming some overpriced luxury item. Smart branding, but … I remember when Swarovski was just ‘Austrian crystal’ and set in a pair of $10 earrings I bought from Claire’s for a junior high dance. I like sparkly fluff as much as anyone, but $1000?
That said, I kind of like the bottle for Aura. It reminds me of something out of Star Trek, though. Maybe that’s why I like it. Who knows.
Ditto!
Yep, me too — I used to be a beader and they were dirt cheap. Oh well — smart branding, and the pricing isn’t really any sillier than the rest of what goes on in the world of perfume.
I did beading some years ago and I remember Swarovsky/Austrian crystal to be the most expensive type of bead there was. Compared to luxury products adorned with Swarovsky, however, they are dirt cheap!
Then there is the actual jewelry (as opposed to elements) produced by Swarovski, and also their figurines. The price of these is not at all in line with the price of the elements (beads etc). Once it is designed by the company the price shoots up (and you get a little swan somewhere on the item.
Lots of jewelry makers and costume jewelry companies use the elements in their own designs (like Claire’s) and the piece will be significantly less than a Swarovski-designed piece.
I guess with bond no 9 they figured it was branding to the power of two – and worked out a price accordingly!
I agree, the Bond No9 bottle is absolutley stunning. but not worth $1000.
Bling, bling, bling, bling. Blech, blech, blech, blech.
For people with more money than taste – and there are so many out there. London is full of them. *sigh*
🙂
I have to agree with Bela, but then these things aren’t my style at all. I find the first Swarovski Aura (solid) interesting-looking, at least.
The funny thing to me is the juxtaposition of the actual Scent of Peace fragrance with that bottle. I just wouldn’t put a black currant-grapefruit cologne-y fragrance in a blingy crystal-studded bottle for $1,000. Should be something deep and dark and mysterious at the very least…
Not sure I think it’s a good fit either, but maybe they just wanted something easy & likable in that bottle? At that price, really you ought to be able to pick the scent you want.
ooohhhh….shiny stuff. The big Aura reminds me a those kiddie/candy rings (although I’ve never seen a clear one). I wonder, though, who are they marketing these to? They seem kinda young to me.
The regular bottle for the Esprit d’Oscar is much nicer than this ring in my opinion. The scent is lovely though.
The only thing uglier than a Bond no9 bottle – one encrusted with rhinestones. Yeah, Swarovski, they’re rhinestones.
That first bottle resembles a windshield after a car accident.
The Bond Nº9’s bottle is beautiful. But for 1,000$ it should be worderful!
