French niche line Diptyque has launched a new collection, Les Invités du Trente-Quatre, comprising three limited edition items in connection with their 50th anniversary:
To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Diptyque launches an exclusive collection that highlights its skills as a perfumer. The three closest perfumers of the house had carte blanche to create an ephemeral collection with great olfactory and creative freedom! Be tempted by the Curiosité scented candle by Olivia Giacobetti, Eau Mage eau de toilette by Fabrice Pellegrin and multi-use perfumed water Eau Particulière by Olivier Pescheux.
Eau Mage ~ "Limited Edition created by [perfumer] Fabrice Pellegrin. A note built in total contrast, like the graphic identity of the brand where black and white combine.Special finish on the EDT bottle: black shaded lacquered. A simple accord built around ambroxan, green mandarin, cashmeran and cumin. A trace of rose oxide, vibrant, suggestive of the silver décor of the case. A touch of patchouli and labdanum, darker more subdued tones." In 50 ml Eau de Toilette, $120.
Eau Particulière (shown) ~ "Limited Edition created by [perfumer] Oilivier Pescheux [sic]. A fresh enveloping fragrance built around a floral green accord. Vintage glass bottle with a screw cap and a bulb atomizer aside. Sweetness is provided by rose and musks, freshness by mint." In 240 ml Body & Home Spray, $135.
Curiosités scented candle ~ "Limited Edition created by [perfumer] Olivia Giacobetti. Fragrance inspired by Desmond Knox-Leet’s [note: one of Diptyque's founders] workshop, a real curiosity shop. White ceramic jar. Engraving inside the oval inspired by a drawing of Desmond Know-Leet made during its graphic research around the diptyque pyramidal logo [sic & sic]. A woody note mixed with the fragrance of charcoal, paper, amber and old wood." $80.

They all 3 sounds very nice. May not be groundbreaking at all. But I love the bottle, that is shown 🙂
Indeed, especially the Eau Mage sounds very nice! 🙂 It’s wonderful to see how they linked the bottle design to the scent in such a gracious way. Anyway, I ordered it a month ago on Colette, couldn’t resist.
Oh…isn’t it going to be expensive?
Do hope you’ll love it!
Admit I am not dying to run out & buy — other than the candle, which I won’t buy because it’s too spendy for me.
I’m with you on the candle, Robin. I love Giacobetti and the notes sound wonderful. It may have to go on my Christmas list, because I can get two very nice candles for $80. It’s hard to justify the pricetag, but easier if you’re not the one footing the bill. 🙂
Indeed, I would never give $80 for a candle actually… Well that’s not true, maybe if I really like the notes I would, but that isn’t the case here (charcoal and paper…?). It is very intriguing though, I guess that’s why they named the candle “”Curiosité”…
Oooh, the Olivia Giacobetti scent sounds awesome, but I don’t want an $80 candle… Wish they’d release it as a perfume. 🙁 (Doesn’t everybody want to smell like charcoal and old wood? Hehehe)
That’s the “smell” I want the most too, but I’m too cheap for an $80 candle. So ditto — wish it was a perfume.
Yup. Or maybe a smaller, cheaper candle.
They are limited edition, with hand-crafted porcelain holders, so there is no money to be made in a small candle.
Use the melted wax as a solid, folks! I do this with Pacific and DL&Co, though I’ve never tried a Diptyque candle.
I am a big fan of Olivia Giacobetti and could think of a few creative uses of the candle to get … scented 😛 but this particular fragrance is a bit off-putting, the notes I mean, and way too expensive.
The description of the candle reminds me of the Dans l’Atelier de Cézanne candle by Olivia Giacobetti that Kevin reviewed a while back (dust, old wood, oil). I did end up buying that one and I love it, but it’s very subtle.
