British niche house Floris has launched Sirena and Mahon Leather, two new fragrances inspired by the island of Minorca:
Sirena (shown) ~ "Sirena is a sparkling floral marine fragrance with the freshness of a sea breeze introducing the soft floral heart of oleander, peony and rose with summer berries on a bed of musks and sandalwood...Minorca, the birthplace of Juan Famenias Floris and home of the bronze mermaid of Mahon, was the inspiration for this creation. The scent captures the spirit and warmth of this sun kissed Mediterranean island and its rich flora lingering on a gentle sea breeze. A distillation of summer memories."
Mahon Leather ~ "Inspired by Minorca the theme combines the scent of the warm liqueur Calent, an infusion of wine and spices dating back to ancient times, paired with the exhilarating aroma of leather tack worn by the Minorcan Horse, symbolic of most cultural celebrations and fiestas on the island. Mahon Leather is a distillation of the tradition, soul and artistry of the birthplace of Juan Famenias Floris...Mahon Leather is inspired by Minorca, with the key notes of leather and saffron woven into the elegant heart of vetiver, underscored by deep woods and amber."
Floris Sirena and Mahon Leather are £90 each for 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

Oleander? Perhaps there are differnt varieties, but i grew up with oleanders in South Florida and do not remember their scent as pleasant at all. Besides, they’re poisonous enough to seriously impact small children or animals, which is kind of a turn-off. But perhaps Minorca has another, prettier and less harmful variety I should investigate!
Oh, weird, I remember them smelling nice.
I will definitely sniff the Mahon Leather as it sounds right up my alley. Hopefully John Lewis or the House of Fraser in the Oracle will have these!
I don’t know, but I’d think they would.
Does anyone have a favourite floris? Right now there’s a bunch of them at Winner’s, quite cheap, and wouldn’t mind a suggestion or two…
Not really familiar with most of the line, but I would probably sell a kidney or two to get my hands on a bottle of Malmaison… just in case they’re selling old stock…
The only one I ever liked was Malmaison, and it’s gone, and mals86 is right that it’s worth a kidney or two if you see it.
I always thought oleanders were pretty stinky, too. Aside from the warnings: don’t even get downwind in the smoke of them being burned – they’re that toxic. Oh yeah, I want to smell like that.
