New niche line A Dozen Roses has launched a trio of perfumes for women:
A Dozen Roses fragrances is a luxury collection of eau de parfums created from a passion for roses, art and pure perfumery. Each fragrance is a totally modern interpretation of the rose, complex and resonant, created to surround the pure rose absolut at its core. Each a unique signature scent a woman can make her own.
Gold Rush (shown) ~ "A rush of ecstasy. Sexy, rich, wild. A Dozen Roses Gold Rush is an intoxicating combination of blackberry, neroli and ylang ylang layered with the richness of bittersweet chocolate and ebony woods, all wrapped with the aura of the gold rush rose and A Dozen Roses signature rose absolut."
Shakespeare In Love ~ "A pure lasting romance. Warm, wonderful, memorable. A Dozen Roses Shakespeare in Love hugs you with jasmine, gardenia and fresh pear that blend to creamy woods and vanilla. At the heart a beautiful blush rose and A Dozen Roses signature rose absolut."
Iced White ~ "A bright, white flash. Icy, edgy, effervescent. A Dozen Roses Iced White is a brisk mix of white on white; white peony, white primrose and osmanthus that cools down with vanilla, white musk and at the center a fresh white rose and A Dozen Roses' signature rose absolut."
A Dozen Roses Gold Rush, Shakespeare In Love and Iced White are available now at Neiman Marcus, $95 each for 100 ml Eau de Parfum. (via neimanmarcus)
Oh my gosh, these are free! As I clicked on this article I guesstimated that the price would be $120 per 50ml.
Maybe the economy will finally make perfume prices level off instead of inching ever higher. Hopefully.
The bottle looks interesting, the notes also.
Sad how $95 really has become the new free, huh? I too am relieved when I see new scents that come in at under $100….I find myself going “Well, that’s not so bad at all…”
They are $5 less than free, to be exact 🙂
It’s like printing money! 😉
Exactly!
I love that bottle!
But as it is, I’m quite stocked up on roses. Also: ANOTHER niche company? I’m just not going there.
I still don’t understand why anybody thinks the recession stopped the flow…we got fewer mainstream, more niche, that’s all.
By chance, a perfumista friend and I smelled these yesterday at Neiman Marcus. We saw the bottles and were curious (and we both love rose scents). I have to say we were not impressed. The first two were very fruity and sweet, and the white one didn’t smell at all like a rose–just boringly fresh. My friend, who tends to like more than I do–though she is also a more sophisticated perfume collector–agreed with me.
Thanks!
Oh so glad you’ve removed the burden of lemmings from our chests!
…and my breathing has returned to normal….thank you. 😉
I’m glad to know this – it confirms my initial reaction just reading the notes. Sweet, Sweet, and aggressively clean. I tend to dislike things that are described as icy, white, bright, shiny, snow, clean, fresh, cold air, bracing, etc.
I also had the same reaction as Mals to another niche line and find the idea that the recession could lead to more niche but fewer mainstream releases interesting. I know that creating a new line of fragrances isn’t a do it yourself project for most people but it makes sense to me that more small lines of “artisanal” fragrances would come to market. I’ve noticed that at my LYS (local yarn shop), too.
Am I the only one that wants to scream every time a new fragrance bills itself as an “reinterpretation of the rose?” Maybe I’m the olfactory equivalent of an old fogie, but I’m of the opinion that the rose was well done enough in it’s natural state that it doesn’t need to be reinterpreted.
Agreed, and I’m not even a rose partisan. (Plus I just saw a Gertrude Stein-related art exhibit here in SF, and have “a rose is a rose is a rose” on the brain.)
Actually, roses have done a great job of reinterpreting themselves. There is quite a wide variety of different scents among roses. The smell most people think of as “rose” is just one of them.
Yes! I live in S. TX and have several varieties of naturalized antique roses that smell so fantastically different from a grafted tea rose. I have a climbing Cecile Brunner outside my bedroom doors and the clusters of tiny pink blossoms have a delicious spicy scent – like roses and clove-y carnations.
I’m screaming along with you, Anne. And Mals, I’m also fed up with all these niche companies and the gazillion perfume launches going on!
Another old fogie,
Jonette
This bottle is so pretty, for a moment, I found myself thinking “maybe I’ll just pop into NM today…” Thanks “suddenly” for changing my mind 🙂
Hmmmm… Sounds like a Les Parfums de Rosine wannabe…
