Slumberhouse is an indie brand from Portland, OR. They debuted late last year, and have recently added three new limited edition fragrances for spring/summer 2011: Verg, Mur and Kote.
Verg ~ "A heart chord of neroli that is animated with the brightness of ginger paints the unmistakable image of spring, while oakmoss and tobacco absolute adds a subdued grittiness in the base. A fragrance that feels like an invisible appendage outdoors, crowned in a headspace dusted with raspberry ketone." $34 for 30 ml Eau de Parfum.
Mur ~ "Composed with elements representing the purist and the rustic setting - cassie, honey hay, mate and beeswax are woven onto a rich base of warm vetiver grass. A fragrance suspended in a state of calm and steady distance from modernity. Sweet and earthy with cereal-esque, leathery barn impressions." $51 for 30 ml Eau de Parfum.
Kote ~ "The imagination: polished teak planks brushed in clementine juice, rubbed dry with tobacco leaves and left in the sun. A brightwood that fully realizes itself in a warm atmosphere with translucent sparks of bronzed pine gum." $42 for 30 ml Eau de Parfum.
Slumberhouse Verg, Mur & Kote can all be found at Indiescents, where you can also find four releases from late 2010, all $60 for 30 ml Eau de Parfum:
Grev ~ "The interpretation of the dapperest embodiments of a true gentleman. A deep, spicy, earthy, rooty fragrance with an elegant kick of herbs tinted through shades of orris, clove, birch and fir. A completely post-modern version of an elegant masculine cologne, grev is a very intriguing fragrance - truly nothing like it."
Jeke ~ "The concept for this started in autumn 2008 with a batch of smokey cade oil and the idea of a night time stroll with burning autumn woods in the distance - something fiery and burnt yet chillingly desolate, November illusory, breath of fog, ablaze. Into this design I sought to embed a defined masculinity - something well-worn yet intellectual, a refinement streamlined with rustic attributes - warmth of cigars in humidors, old leather shoes & odd buckles, traces of a fragmented sweet spice, the mysterious atmosphere that adorns the well traveled."
Ore ~ "An affection for Carmex lip balm, so Slumberhouse did something about it. Imagine an intensely bastardized version, thickened with sweet scotch and bitter cocoa, made slightly mean with a splash of pure black peppercorn and smeared in a creamy lactonic backdrop. One hell of a dark and sexy beast, and a favorite with our female clients."
Vikt ~ "Dark balsamic woods slowly oozing sweet metallic oils - motions of soft smokey black agar woods through syrupy bronze resins. Incredibly deep & well rounded fragrance with a mellow darkness at its heart."
anyone else try these? I tried many samples when they were just on etsy…some were very medicinal on me, but they make an amber that is pretty nice! Also, every now and then they put out a musk that is great if you like soapy, wearable musks…would love to hear what others think!
Vikt was one of my favs…
Thanks!
can you tell me what you own from slumberhouse , samples old new i am trying to get some of the older stuff hope you can help me out
I tried two….it’s been a while now…didn’t care for them at all and passed the samples on right away! I think they were Grev and Jeke.
Thanks Daisy.
I love Ore and plan to purchase a bottle. I received several compliments when wearing the sample. Vikt is also nice.
Good to hear…
I just can’t get past the names. I hate them all.
Yeah, the names are weirdly angular and nondescript.
I certainly dislike some of them. Vikt…I can’t say that.
Vikt sounds slightly tempting
Gosh these all sounds so good. I’ve yet to try Slumberhouse, but I’ve been meaning to for awhile.
I tried Grev, Jeke, and Vikt. The one i liked the smell of the most was Vikt, but it ended up being just way too powerful. Normally i like powerhouse scents, but i felt a little smothered after only a few sprays of this one.
Ore is really nice. I tried it few months ago and reminded me of OJ’s Tolu with Tauer’s liveliness. I would say the best of Slumberhouse.
Oh, please Robin, you are teasing us, this is a subliminal nudge for us to BEG for a new Prix Eau Faux contest!
“A fragrance that feels like an invisible appendage outdoors, crowned in a headspace dusted with raspberry ketone”
Come Ooooon! 🙂
kinda makes you gag a little, doesn’t it? eek!
That one is particularly marvelous 🙂
I got hung up on the invisible appendage – once read that sentence I forgot everything else in the copy. It sounds like a concept for a horror movie.
I reviewed a bunch of the scents from the line a couple weeks ago. http://www.femininethings.org/2011/05/dont-let-me-be-alone-its-tearing-apart.html
I’m so surprised by all the negative reactions. I loved both Mur and Kote when I tried them and I bought Flur immediately. I agree that line isn’t going to be for everyone because it is so weird, but one of the things that made me sit up and take notice was that it didn’t smell like everything else in the world. I liked the industrial edge, the aggressive focus on a single complex moment with little change over the drydown…
Ah, well. More for me!
i actually think these are *very* very good.
jeke is an absolutely fabulous, slightly smoky woody in the masculine manner (but very wearable for women.)
grev is a lovely sandalwood.
mur is a *perfect* hay for the summer (unfortunately i don’t smell the vetiver much, but never mind that.)
rume is *the* best labdanum i’ve ever smelled, bar none. better than 100% love, better than dk labdanum — i mean…the drydown of this is to die for (and the honey and tangerine on top combine to something almost berry-like, quite wonderful.)
the house amber is fabulous as well — a deep amber that’s not cloying, slightly smokey and reminiscent (a little) of edenbotanicals late lamented ambre royal.
and kumele (private edition, but ask for it) is a wonderful vanilla-patch that’s better than practically any other out there 5x the price of this.
i really love these.
including the names (really, i do!)
and no, i’m not affiliated.
dear harper do you own any of the old samples from slumberhouse or bottles looking to try some of older scents
please let me know i i dont know how to write members here i guess i can just replay to comments hope one of you can help me thank you all
My, how these prices have changed.
Josh Lobb has spoken more honestly than most Perfumer’s about what quality ingredients cost and the constant struggle to keep the line affordable. Also, he went back and refined all his fragrances for the better and they are now extrait in concentration so they have more of the good stuff and less alcohol. I think anyone who tried them before and found them harsh should try again….
