Bath & Body Works has launched Country Chic, a new addition to their Signature Collection of fragrances:
Master perfumers have layered sparkling lemon, vanilla orchid, and juicy apple with bright spring woods to create this effortlessly sexy fragrance inspired by the fresh air and natural beauty of America's countryside.
Additional notes include grapefruit, pear, crushed leaves, marigold, raspberry, jasmine, day lily, gardenia, orange blossom, peach, praline, patchouli, cedar, amber and musk.
Bath & Body Works Country Chic is $29.50 for 75 ml Eau de Toilette; matching bath & body products are also available. (via bathandbodyworks)
“Master perfumers.” Yep. Good thing I already finished my coffee.
(Mind you, I have a soft spot for B&BW. But still.)
They include that in every (or nearly every, I didn’t check) perfume description. It’s quite funny, especially when used so often.
Now, honestly: what about that bottle says either “country” or “chic”?
I know they’re aiming low but that is ridiculous.
AND IT HAS APPLE IN IT.
I guess it’s supposed to be country plaid? But I had the same reaction: not country.
The rest of the packaging (lotions and stuff) is much prettier and feature fields of flowers… I am not really impressed now, seeing the EDT bottle.
It’s blue gingham, highly magnified! I actually like the bottle but have no desire even to test the fragrance.
The lotion and body splash is previewing in the stores now… You can get the mini travel lotion for $1 and the body spray for $2. I think it’s not out on the store floors for another week.
It’s not bad but not really my thing either. Very lemon-y to start, with a floral middle… there is also one really annoying synthetic-ish note. Someone on the BBW facebook page called it a ‘Pez candy note’ and I think that is pretty close to the mark. Maybe that is the ‘juicy apple.’ I dunno.
Ah, thanks for the summary.
I was in BBW last weekend and had a chance to sniff – it’s opens with a very lemony/citrusy burst which I happened to really like (I often like bright citrus scents, esp. on hot days!). After about 5 minutes, the synthetic floral peach (or apple) sets in. While not bad, it’s not remarkable, either. This phase lasts for another 15 minutes or so and I don’t remember what happens next.
Overall, it’s not bad and I really liked the bright citrus (again, I heart bright citrus). I probably won’t buy the perfume or the lotion, but the shower gel goes on the maybe list. There’s other BBW scents that I liked better.
I find that most of their products have a plastic-like note.
That is a terrible name choice. Country chic sounds like a realtor euphimism about a dated house full of calico and ducks.
Oh, if you picture that house then it is a bad name. I like the idea of blue gingham, though (as suggested by the bottle).
For some reason this made me think of Charlotte in Sex in the City and her mother-in-laws battle over redecorating the apartment – must be the ducks. I think the gingham and bottle shape is also supposed to make you subliminally think of the Burberry plaid line – probably the same audience they are trying to lure…
I find it interesting that BBW now names their frags these vague “impression” type names rather than their old literal monikers like Cucumber Melon 😀 All their latest releases are like this one; Moonlight Path, Carried Away, Forever Sunshine. And frankly I haven’t liked any of their new stuff! Give me Vanilla Sugar, Manderin Mango and the above Cuke/Melon any day. BBW doesn’t do complex well and needs to stick to the basics.
Moonlight Path has actually been around for quite some time. I agree about the names though. All the names now are less literal. Maybe it’s because of all tinkering and marketing that goes into their products now. The fragrances are less straight forward so they pick vague names that suit whatever it ends up smelling like. Black Raspberry Vanilla, is not going to smell like anything other than raspberries and vanilla, but Carried Away? That could go with any light fruity floral.
Actually, Moonlight Path is one of the few B&B fragrances I like. I don’t have the EdT, though; I figure it would not hold up in a direct comparison with no. 5 or Arpege, but for a room fragrance it is nice. I also like Sensual Amber and several of their citrus scents. Most of the rest of their stuff is fruity florals, and I honestly have a hard time telling them apart.
I usually buy the $1 previews of the Bath and Body Works releases, as there are a few things there that I enjoy. Luckily I’m only into this one for a couple of dollars for a spray and lotion because it is one of their worst. If you take their recent releases of Twilight Woods, and Secret Wonderland, mix them with some Lemon Cake Icing and spit it out, you have Country Chic. The dominant note for Country Chic is the same as Twilight Woods, just lighter. This is just Twilight Woods Summer, and with the longevity of a summer flanker too, about 10 minutes – if you’re lucky and highly moisturised already!
This is the poorest longevity I’ve seen from Bath and Body Works, possibly ever. I’d be willing to think it was my skin but I’ve heard the same from others. There’s some hints of celeb scents like Hilary Duff in this one too, just an attempt to appeal to familiarity amongst the 12-18 crowd, in my opinion. Apparently they are releasing ‘Into the Wild’ next month which is supposed to be another woods, but if it follows in the recent trend of just making trashy flankers of the last year worth of successful releases I will be highly disappointed.
A woman at my job has the sample. Perfectly hideous, sickly-sweet. There is no reason whatsoever for a body product to be so heavily scented!
I haven’t smelled this one, but are they trying to recall their good old gingham-and-wood-decor days?
That actually wouldn’t be a bad thing. I remember those days, back when there were only an offshoot of Express stores.
Why couldn’t they just bring back Country Apple?
I picked this up today and plan on trying it out soon. I’ve found though that lately, their new scents lack staying power in the body mist.
