Eau de Couvent was launched in late 2010 by artist Candida Romero. The proceeds will assist in her efforts to restore the Couvent San Francescu in the Nebbio region of Corsica.
The fragrance was reportedly inspired by the scent from a glass bottle Romero found in the convent's gardens:
It is in memory of the flask of crystal found in the tall grass of the Corsican scrub at feet of the old Convent San Francescu in Nebbio that water of convent was created.
This flask where from escaped a light scent…
With water of convent find the simple happiness of a perfumed and dynamic fresh water in the scents of violet, jasmine and mandarin carefully measured for a special moment.
A return of course in the garden of Hesperides.
Eau de Couvent is available now at Colette in Paris, 59€ with VAT for 100 ml Eau Fraîche Parfumée. (via colette.fr, additional information via eaudecouvent)
I love the name!
…although I would have imagined notes of fresh herbs from the garden, notes of beeswax from the candles and freshly polished floors and a hint of peppermints–what the nuns were giving out at school as rewards.
Yes, yours sounds better!
Actually, this sounds rather sweet, though violets and I don’t always play together well. I hope I run into this at some point!
I wonder if it will show up in the US? The bottle is cute.
That was my first reaction. Then I thought, Miller et Bertaux wrapped in a ribbon. The notes don’t appeal to me either… I’d much rather smell platinum14’s version!
I think it looks kinda kinky, all tied up like that!
Ha! Now I need to scrub that image from my mind! Nuns in bondage. . .ugh!
Something about this sniffing old bottles found in the tall grass of a churchyard is very unappealing.
I imagine stale cheap beer or pee.
Ugh.
🙂
Wow, that convent is beautiful (via the weblink). Interesting project.
It *is* beautiful. This is just the kind of project that speaks to my heart. I’d rather go there and help with the preservation, rather than buy a fragrance that sounds like it will last all of 2 minutes.
Isn’t it gorgeous??
