Niche retailer Luckyscent has launched three more fragrances in their Untitled series of limited edition perfume oils by indie perfumers:
Untitled #6, by Susanne Lang (shown) ~ "Suzanne Lang has done us the honor of crafting a limited run fragrance around a particularly lovely patchouli oil, vintage 1998. Like a jeweler designing a setting to set off a superlative gem, she has built a scent that shows off this gorgeously evocative patchouli that has been aged to mellow perfection -- blending earth and air, sensuality and transparency." With aged patchouli, agarwood, Indian sandalwood, clove, nutmeg and the slightest hint of dark chocolate. $70 for 8 ml.
Untitled #7, by Hilde Soliani ~ "A glorious meditation on citrus, vanilla and sandalwood from the brilliant Hilde Soliani. Sweet, bright citrus eases us into an endlessly enchanting duet of lush, buttery vanilla and creamy, velvety sandalwood. It reminds us of a Rothko painting..." $80 for 8 ml.
Untitled #8, Brent Leonesio ~ "Perfumer Brent Leonesio is known for his line smell bent and the cheeky, fun and affordable scents that are his trademark....Oud, musk and civet make this scent of the most feral perfumes we've come across in, well, ever. While completely modern it also reminds us of vintage perfumes..." Additional notes include narcissus, fur, tobacco and black leather. $60 for 8 ml.

Feral? Hooray! Must try number 8 at least and probably number 6. 🙂
When he says feral, he means it. More than most.
Yes, anyone who can list a note of wolf pee or whatever the hell was in that Lumberjack Werewolf one, is a force to be reckoned with. I was surprised all the dogs in the neighborhood didn’t start howling when I tested that stuff.
I am positively chomping at the bit for Brent’s #8! It sounds hateful, yet brilliant.
He did some other very strong musk…can’t remember what it was called, but it nearly killed me.
Wow! Wonder what it was…
I do remember the description was quite serious…it was meant to be a musk that would kill you.
I was curious about these when I saw them on the Luckyscent site. #7 sounds really wonderful.
#7 does sound very tempting!
No.7 sounds like pretty much exactly what Iv’e been looking for for months. Citrus, vanilla and creamy sandalwood. Naturally it’s limited edition. Gah.
I have samples of #6 and #8 on order and am way beyond stoked. This is one of those cases where it’s unlikely that the perfumes will live up to the hype I’ve created in my head, but I’ll be darned if I’m not going to give ’em a good chance. Leonisio’s in particular, has got me all a-twitter with a “fur” accord. Also, Susanne Lang’s “aged patchouli” sounds very promising as well.
Those are some pricey perfume oils. I hope someone enjoys them! 😀
Seems like we break down into 6/8 people or 7 people. I’m a 7. 🙂
I’m a 7 too.
Moi aussi!
Me too!
civet, oud, tobacco, black leather and musk. i want to smell it, but i fear it will make me choke.
The first one sounds like something I could love quite easily
The earlier entries in this “untitled” series did not interest me much, but these do sound worth checking out. If only I hadn’t just placed two large sample orders…
Um…fur?
yeah, if u smell some furs, u can get a mixture of the ” leather/skin” and fur together! (animal like)
holy maloney…i would like to smell these…especially one that is likened to a Rothko painting!
I once lost a vial of pure patchouli oil in my car, where it stayed for about 5 years through all kinds of weather. It wasn’t very good, so I didn’t miss it. But when I found it again, I was astounded at how its scent had developed– it had grown more mellow & subtle and lost all its acridity. Makes me look forward to experiencing #6’s “aged patchouli”.
Some essential oils do improve with age, mainly the “heavy” base oils such as patchouli, sandalwood, vetiver, myrrh, etc. In general, the heavier and more viscous the oil, the longer its shelf life.
Mandy Aftel let me smell one that was 100 years old. Talk about smooooth.
I was recently able to try all three of these and loved numbers 6 and 7. The patch in Susanne Lang’s composition is so light, green and airy (it feels so odd describing patchouli that way lol) that it blends perfectly with the other notes and the chocolate rounds it out quite nicely. No. 7 is so fun and bright that even though it is a bit pricy for a perfume oil, it would be really fun for the summer and reminds me of a citrus dessert for adults. Number 8 nearly knocked me on my… Well let’s say it is a musk that makes SL’s MKK smell like TBS’s White Musk. I will have to test it alone when I have time to devote to the development, but it smelled very animalistic–almost fecal–to my nose straight out of the vial and much like my first experience of ELdO’s Secretions Magnifique, I actually recoiled a bit. But now I am fascinated and do want to give it a try on skin when my nose is prepared. :).
