Creed has launched Aventus, a new fragrance for men:
Olivier CREED, sixth-generation master perfumer of France, presents in America—before all other countries—his latest creation, called AVENTUS, a fragrance for men (and adored by women) honoring traits of strength, power, vision, and success.
CREED Aventus is inspired by the dramatic life of a great, historic emperor, who waged war, peace and romance on terms he set, riding to power on horseback.
The notes include black currant, bergamot, apple, pineapple, rose, birch, jasmine, patchouli, musk, oak moss, ambergris and vanilla.
Creed Aventus is available now for pre-order at Neiman Marcus, 30 ($140) or 75 ($240) ml. (via neimanmarcus)
Oh, I’d definitely wear this. Most likely via a split, but I’d definitely wear some. 🙂
No idea if I’d wear it or not — don’t think I can ever tell without smelling it.
I have to comment on this one. First of all, let me note that I am a woman. I tried it on at Neimans and didn’t know if it was too masculine. But, my son loved it on me and he is a good critic. So I thought I would by the small bottle and see what I felt wearing it a few days. I have had soooooo many compliments, especially from men. But more importantly, I love it. I recommend not just smelling it from a piece of paper or from the bottle but wear it and see how it works for you. It is wonderful! It is fresh and clean but with a masculine bite. I do feel that it doesn’t last all day but am happy to reapply again towards the evening. I love how it smells on my clothes after a long day which is a good sign. For those that don’t like the review, I recommend trying it and giving it a good chance. It might surprise you!!!!
Adored by women before it’s even released? Our powers of ESP must be even greater than I thought! This copy made me giggle… which I suppose is better than rolling my eyes.
Slightly better 🙂
Without smelling it, and therefore without knowing how the proportions work out, I still have to say that the list of notes doesn’t sound particularly masculine, or particularly anything (although it would seem to skew feminine, except for that birch). It could be the latest Paris Hilton for women, the newest Givenchy for men, the newest Calvin Klein unisex.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that. But I really really do wish more companies would just kind of discard the idea of a gendered scent. It could work for this one, I’m betting.
Guessing they don’t discard it because they’d sell less fragrance. I get frequent emails asking why we don’t do a better job here of specifying whether things are masculine or feminine — most consumers really care.
Wow.
Okay, then what if they specifically positioned it as a unisex, the way CK did with CKOne and CKbe? I would think they’d sell more of it that way, since they would more or less double their pool of potential wearers. But I am probably wrong.
The neiman marcus around me had a tester of this out this past weekend. Im usually not a fan of the creeds, but this one really impressed me. I could be crazy, but i thought it smelled a bit like Lyric Man at one point during the mid development.
Thanks!
I more often than not skip Creed too; I like a handful of their scents and many others I find almost repulsive, or at least super-generic for the price point.
This list of notes sounds really intriguing though, so I’ll have to find a sample sometime. I can’t remember if Windsor was marketed as men’s, but that was well-done and fairly unisex also.
Generally, Creed makes a quality scent and they have really carved their own niche in the high end market. But it says this fragrance was modeled after “a great historic emperor, etc.” How does Oliver Creed know what this great historic emperor smelled like?
And if they rode to power on horseback, I’m guessing they would smell like horse. Must’ve been a fruity floral-smelling horse.
Yep, just ask the Old Spice guy. It would be the horse your horse could smell like.
snort!
Well, Guerlain already used a similar Roman somebody-or-other concept at least 11 or 12 years ago with Coriolan; I don’t think the inspiration is meant to be literal.
Who is then the – great, historic emperor, who waged war, peace and romance on terms he set, riding to power on horseback-?
Gengis Khan and Augustus cannot have smelt the same.
Well it’s been two weeks since I received my first Creed. AVENTUS! I did a lot of research regarding the batch numbers vs. lot numbers. Pineapple top vs. weak pineapple top. Projection vs. olfactory fatigue vs. sillage. Whew, I would say I spent 2 months deciding. I went to Saks and Neiman Marcus, each had two batch numbers in their locations which was great. It’s true what they say about batch variations, no consistency regarding the beginning pineapple. The one with less pineapple had a greater longevity, and that’s where the olfactory fatigue set in.
I made my purchase online for $176.00, I had no idea what batch I was getting and was hoping for the best. When I opened the packaging, the first thing I looked at was the batch # on the cool black box, and there it was PINEAPPLE BATCH!
It’s hot here in Atlanta, so I did about 4 sprays, put on a nice shirt and went to the book store, it’s a neutral place to go.
Aventus is a very green fragrance, very little apple, the rose is hardly noticeable, I would say the Oak moss and patchouli dominate, but that pineapple comes back after about 3-4 hours and just knocks my socks off. What a fragrance! The final stage is nice and dry, the musk is there but subtle, perfect. The longevity is all day, no kidding, when I came home for dinner I put on a t-shirt and believe it or not, it was on my t-shirt the next morning, let alone my dress shirt.
I love it! I get a compliment a day. Though it’s a little pricey, it’s money well spent.
This is by far, Creed’s best scent.
