New York-based home fragrance company Joya will introduce a collection of personal fragrances under the name FvsS: Parfums. Two unisex fragrances make up the initial launch: Composition No. 1 and Composition No. 6.
Composition No. 1 (shown above left) ~ with mandarin, orange, quince, heliotrope, tuberose, jasmine, camellia, rose, sandalwood, pale musk and tonka bean.
Composition No. 6 (shown above right) ~ with cypress, juniper berries, yuzu, lotus leaves and blossoms, fresh air accord, meadowgrass, cedarwood, saffron, and amber.
Both fragrances are available in perfume oil format. They are sold in the hand cast porcelain bottles with 22k gold dipped wands, as shown above, 75 ml for $112, or in a travel size rollerball, 10 ml for $28. Matching soaps are also available. The collection will debut at Barneys and selected stores this summer. (via press release, additional information via joyastudio)
Whoa, those bottles are interesting.
I love them, although the gold dipped wands are a wee bit precious. Still, nice design.
Oh, I like those bottles! and the notes don’t sound bad either. I’ll definitely want to check these out.
Meant to add… the bottles don’t look terribly practical, though, but I’d assume the top screws on and I just can’t see the threads in that pic.
No, they don’t look at all practical. But would love to see that bottle in an EdP!
There’s something very Flinstonesque about those bottles.
That’s what makes them so charming! Even more charming is the choice of a 10ml roller. Nice not to have to make the commitment to 75 ml.
Ha, so they do!
The bottles remind me of golf balls. And how convenient that when you take the top off, you have a golf tee. 🙂
But I have to admit I like their quirkiness and I am up for a sniff of the juice when available.

Too funny about the golf balls and tees! I’d prefer them without the facets, personally.
I like the quirky aspect too.
Yes. I’m loving the 10ml rollerball option especially since I’d like to try both.
Also love those bottles – it’s the classic Lanvin Arpege bottle reinterpreted for this decade. 🙂 Hope the scents are worthy!
Just checked out the website and noticed that they offer perfume lockets, too. Very interesting!
What?! No pink pepper, red berries, melon, or aquatic notes? How can this be? Actually, they both sound interesting, although I do not know if I will ever get a chance to sniff them. I did get a chuckle out of “fresh air accord”–wouldn’t a true fresh air accord be no scent at all? I do like the bottles as well, and opaque containers are actually the best for preserving the contents.
The gold-dipped stopper actually has practical value as well. Gold is very non-reactive, so it will not react with the perfume as other metals might. It tends to inhibit the growth of bacteria, which would be picked up from the skin. It also should provide a smoother surface than uncoated glass. Glass is not normally considered porous, but it does have microscopic surface imperfections that act to trap and hold substances, such as skin oils, which could degrade the perfume. Ground glass, such as is used in stoppers for Guerlain and Chanel extraits, is especially good at trapping and holding “stuff” and is very difficult to clean. Of course, they are likely using the gold just because it looks pretty.
Thanks for that info. I had noticed the ground glass on Chanel extrait bottles but not thought about it much. The lesson is to use it quickly!
Or don’t use the stopper to apply it. You can use a cotton swab as a dipper (and use a fresh one each time). I am a chemist, and I work with glassware with ground glass fittings. I can tell you that that particular part of the glassware always gets dirty and is very difficult to clean. The rough surface just wants to hold onto stuff, and not let it go. I would rather the perfume houses did not use ground glass stoppers. Aside from contamination issues, the bottles with ground glass stoppers are difficult to transport, as the stopper is at risk of coming loose and leaking perfume. Screw on caps are much more secure. If you do use a stopper or dipper to apply perfume, the best thing is to wipe it off with a clean tissue after use to remove as much skin debris as possible (you can tuck the now fragrant tissue into your clothes, rather than wasting the perfume).
Thanks good tips. And that would explain why Chanel extraits do leak. Dreadful, when you think what they cost …
Id be interested in trying Composition 6. Id like a spray bottle tho. I wonder what FvsS stands for?
And how do you say it … ?
Pssstt…. I happen to have the scoop on that! It can be read as “F vs. S.” Frederick is the founder/owner of Joya, and Sarah is the artist behind the bottle designs. Apparently they’re partners in life as well as in art.
Yeah, Comp. 6 sounds loverly. I love those bottles so much! Esp. the white or blush colored one, whatever it is. It looks like something craggy and good to eat.
I too think Composition No. 6 sounds nice, and am loving the bottles! They look like they’d be very weighty.
I am thinking one of them would make a nice bud vase when the perfume is gone.
6 sounds more appealing to me as well. I really like the look of the bottles although a pretty bottle is useless to me as I store my collection in their boxes.
Both composition 1 & 6 sound good. Cedar is iffy (or should I say “stinky” ?) on me and can really turn on me with big BO fangs. Maybe the cedar is insubstantiial, maybe not. I rather doubt I’ll ever see these —we don’t get many small /obscure lines here in rural Michigan in a ***gasp***brick and mortar store.
Seems like I about the only one here who doesn’t much care for the bottles. They appear “sloppy” to me somehow….add that to the fact that I’m not big on dabbing and then reintroducing the dabber to the perfume …hmmm I do have something good to say though—the opaque bottles are safer for the fragrances… and that’s a good thing if you want to display them.
The cedar=B.O. equation again! Funny how olfactory perceptions and associations are so different. I don’t get B.O. out of cedar at all. To me cedar makes me think of a forest; it is a definite comfort scent. I guess you really don’t like Feminite du Bois?
runs screaming from the room……
Liked the bottles, notes, the sizes available and the prices! Is rare to see something today that costs less than 200 dollars…
To me. the bottles look more like plaster vases…
Robin, I just wanted to say – off topic – that I love the fact that you post on the weekends!
Thanks! Although I don’t always — depends on what news there is to post 🙂
They remind me of the J. Del Pozo In Black and In White.
They also look like they belong in the bathroom.
And yes, the gold-dipped wand is precious 😀
Interesting. I’m curious to try. There is a crudeness to the bottles that is both appealing and a tad disturbing (blunt object/implement used as dangerous weapon to the head aspect). I am paranoid when I can’t see the contents (are they REALLY putting 75ml in there?)
These are not at all ‘delicate’ counter top fare (I like the Flintstones reference!) I am not sure I would know where to set them (fireplace mantel/door stopper?) Still, I am intrigued…
