Mother's Day is Sunday, May 9th. Get cracking on that shopping!
From Dawn Spencer Hurwitz, the Les Rouges collection, with miniatures of Piment et Chocolat, Poivre, Fleurs d'Oranger and Oeillets Rouges. $50 at Beautyhabit.
From Miller Harris, cotton canvas bags — perfect for shopping or to hold a scented gift. Available with long or short handles, £6 each at Miller Harris.
From Marianella, Lemonwood soap ("aromas of wood and lemon that remind me of Dad's cologne and a stroll through the woods of Arrayanes in Bariloche with friends") in shower- and hand-sized bars. $15.99 at Orange and Pear.
From Lafco, candle tins in lots of great scents (cilantro orange and fig are shown, but there's also cedar, lilac, gardenia, mint, blood orange, honeysuckle, and too many others to name). $20 each for a 6 oz candle with a 35 hour burn time, at Blue Mercury.
For the Mom who loves niche, an "It's Mine" set, with a 50 ml Eau de Parfum in the Comme des Garçons 2 fragrance. Plus a doll of some sort. $65 at Beauty Encounter.
Lovely things! except this CdG doll, I find it a bit creepy 🙂 Looks like a voodoo doll.
It does! Very CdG.
Maybe it’s nicer in person (though I don’t see how), but that DSH set looks really, really cheapjack. Slapped together.
The CDG doll does sort of look like a voodoo doll, of a gorilla.
Just in case there’s a particular gorilla you’re angry with.
Actually, that doll looks like it’s giving us the finger! lol
In case someone tries to steal your CdG 2, you can stab a pin in the hand of the doll, and they will drop it.
LOL!!!
Exactly. Very handy.
I love these cotton bags and the candles!
And that lemonwood soap sounds great. I’ll have to have a look at the website…
In Spain Mother’s day this year is May 2nd (first Sunday).
I have ordered from that store before (they used to carry some teas from Palais du The) and was happy with the service.
And I love those cotton bags too! We need more cotton bags from perfume lines.
DSH fragrances already come in pretty small quantities (at least the ones I can afford), so I wonder how tiny the minis are. I love Oeillets Rouges, though. My first favourite from her. Very nice peppery carnation that smells like the flower, not just cloves, as so many carnations do.
I don’t sew, but I think I could whip up one of those dolls. Though it looks like maybe it has moving joints? I like the bags, too. As a knitter I’m always picking up bags to hold projects that I never finish.
The minis are 1 dram according to DSH’s website.
I have the Perfection Connoisseurs collection. 1 dram is supposed to be 1/16th of an oz, or less than 2 ml, but it gets “interpreted” differently sometimes and my little bottles look more to be about 3.5 ml. I have yet to empty one out to test the actual volume.
Don’t forget that you can get a 10% discount at DSH using the NST promo code. Also, the price of the collection is a good deal compared to the individual bottles.
Interesting. I have one of those little bottles too and it definitely seems to be more than 2ml. As you say, at least 3.5-4ml.
I’m always confused when anything’s in drams. I’m also confused by any quantity in ounces less than 1/2 or 1/4 oz.
Actually, according to WikiAnswers
1 dram (liq – US) = 1/8 fl oz = 0.226 cubic inch = 3.697 ml = 1 tsp
That equates to about $3.38/ml. Thats pretty expensive in my opinion for what you are actually getting.
I don’t know what sort of measuring spoons WikiAnswers uses, but 1/8 ounce isn’t a teaspoon. A standard cooking teaspoon is 5 mL, not 3.697 mL: that makes it 1/6 ounce, because there are three teaspoons to the tablespoon and two tablespoons to the ounce, which technically is 28.4 mL, but is for cooking purposes rounded to 30 mL, making everything nice and neat–5 mL to the teaspoon, 15 mL to the tablespoon, 30 mL to the ounce, 240 mL to the cup (although that is usually rounded up to 250 mL).
All these imperial measures drive my Finnish co-worker CRAZY, but I think we’re stuck with them. We even use them in Canada, though we converted to metric a few decades ago.
Beautyhabit says 0.0625 oz, which according to some random online converter is 1.8483456054698149 mls.
Agree though — I have one of those little bottles & it looks to be way more than 1.8 mls.
That CDG doll doesn’t just look like a voodoo doll… it looks like a ninja voodoo doll.
LOL…yes.
I think I’m in love with that weird doll. I have never in my life smelled Comme des Garçons 2, however, and even if I do love the doll, $65 is a lot for something I’ll never use.
CdG2 is a great scent…but not something to buy unsniffed!
