Parfums Weil has relaunched updated versions of three of the house's older fragrances under the name Les Merveilles de Weil:
Zibeline de Weil ~ an oriental with bergamot, plum, ylang ylang, orange blossom, sweetpea, tonka bean, benzoin and chestnut.
Rêve de Weil ~ an aromatic citrus with bitter orange, gooseberry, citron zest, green tea, lilac, jasmine, white musk, blond woods and liquid amber.
Secret de Weil ~ a spicy floral with pink pepper, Szechuan pepper, elemi, rose, iris, peony, cedar, ambrette and vetiver.
Parfums Weil Zibeline, Rêve & Secret de Weil are available in 50 ml Eau de Parfum, and can be purchased at the Parfums Weil website in France. (found via prnewswire)
Blong woods? Not even Google knows that one.
Ack, that one was me, sorry! Fixed.
Oh! I should have realized that instead of thinking that someone had been smoking something in their, um, blong.
No, really I appreciate it — so few people report typos. I find typos on here that are YEARS old, and nobody said a word.
“Updated” worries me… It’s been a while since I tried Zibeline, but I remember really liking it and this sounds nothing like what I remember. 🙁
It is not a line I know I great deal about, but there’s a wonderful old post at Scentzilla:
http://scentzilla.com/2006/09/26/house-of-weil/
And yes, updated is not usually what I want to hear. But would guess the originals are impossible to make at this late date.
I’m not getting the impression that these are faithful in spirit to the originals. Not that that’s necessarily bad, though.
I really don’t know enough to say!
Interesting. I’ve heard of Zibeline and just got to try Antilope recently thanks to a swap angel. I’d gladly try these, though they sound a little TOO sweet and “updated” for my taste.
On a related note, I’ve been thinking about a quarter-full bottle of Weil Cassandra that I saw at a local antique mall a few weeks back and I think I’m going to have to cave and buy it for the mere pennies they’re asking.
Oh, do report back if you get it!
This definitely caught my eye, in a good way! I know I’m in the minority here, but I love when companies relaunch old classics. To me it means they will still smell complex, beautiful, and different, without the mustiness of a vintage. Zibeline sounds lovely.
Let us know if you try them!
my mother used to wear Weil de Weil. I remember the cilindric botle and the golden cap and the exquisite smell… ever since ( circa 1975 ) I have tried to find it and never could spot it. I don’t evn know if I were to like it now, but the smell of my memories…. ah,it is so powerful and sweet!
Oh, I hope you find a bottle some day!
Robin,
Thank you for posting this. I had not heard anything about it! The old post on Scentzilla you found is mine. Have you heard if these will be launched in the US at some point? I’m beyond curious to smell what they’ve done with/to them. 🙂
I have no idea if they have US distribution, although have to say I doubt it. That doesn’t mean they won’t turn up at the discounters though!
Got sample vials. Weak stuff, no resemblance, don’t bother, esp if you revere the old Weils, which I do.
