Strange Invisible Perfumes will launch Peloponnesian, the line's first Eau de Parfum for men, this spring. The new scent is "inspired by the Aegean Sea and the mythical aromas of the Greek Peninsula".
Perfumer Alexandra Balahoutis drew on her Greek heritage to create this exhilarating fragrance of devastating sex appeal.
Peloponnesian is a refreshing, provocative fragrance built with the ancient perfumes of the Peloponnese - citrus groves of orange and lime, vineyards and mountain sage honey, and a mesmerizing note of sea air, a triumph to achieve in botanical perfumery. Peloponnesian’s crisp, bewildering scent exemplifies the je ne sais quoi of well groomed masculinity.
Renowned for its luscious, narrative perfumes that defy classification, Strange Invisible Perfumes usually declines drawing strict lines between “masculine” and “feminine” perfumes. [...] When Balahoutis conceived of Peloponnesian, however, she aimed to develop something undeniably perfect for her male clients. Men who tried the fragrance loved it. Seeing women’s visceral, primal reaction to the fragrance, she knew she had hit the mark. States Balahoutis: “As a perfumer, I like to avoid clichéd marketing promises of attracting admirers. Having said this, Peloponnesian is simply incredibly sexy, and it absolutely has that effect on me when I smell it. It makes me think of a man who smells clean and compelling, who is well-traveled, heroic, and knows how to find the right scent, dress himself impeccably, and still radiate classic masculinity. This is the type of fragrance that women just want to douse their boyfriends in.”
The notes feature sea air, cypress, orange, lime, and mountain sage honey.
Strange Invisible Perfumes Peloponnesian will be available in 50 ml Eau de Parfum, $160. It can be found now for pre-order at Beautyhabit. (via press release)
LOL!! do people buy this copy? I’m getting a cramp! How do you smell heroic? 😛
By smelling like a Greek god 😉
Greek gods smell like citrus? lol
And cypress. Apparently 😉
All right, I’m perfectly willing to accept the cypress part, but if we’re insisting on “ancient”, might I point out that limes and oranges didn’t really arrive from the East but for several years later…
The myth of the Garden of Hesperides that kept the unattainable citruses at the far corners of the earth isn’t totally out of relevance 😉
It had me until the halfway point! By the end, I’m just liking the idea that it’s easier to douse your boyfriend in this stuff to make him desirable than dump him in hopes of finding a Greek god 🙂
Sounds good to me, I must say (sorry, Bunny… I’m a hero in my own imagination!).
I still want to try Fire & Cream, so when this is launched it might be a good excuse to get samples of both. In this vein, I recently tried Profumum Acqua di Sale, which is good, but maybe not bottle worthy for me.
Do try Fire & Cream. I like SIP, I’ll try whatever they make.
I know I usually scoff endlessly about ad copy but this is sucking me in like Charybdis! uh-oh…..I’m supposed to be AVOIDING sniffy temptation!
Yeah, they did a good job on that ad copy. I felt myself being majorly sucked in by it. I wanna try it !!
especially “bewildering” and “incredibly sexy”
I’m with Joe. This is the kind of ad copy that actually works on me. I am an ancient history and mythology nut. This appeals to my inner (and outer) 9-year old that used to play “Olympian gods” with her Barbies. lol
Yikes! Just saw the price. Well, hopefully TPC will carry it and I can at least get a sniff.
Yeah, they aren’t cheap.
I love love Greece and I think that the smells you find there are just as amazing as the landscapes: dusty, windy, herbaceous, incensy…
In this case, I’m totally with bunny – I don’t like the copy (heroic?!), and am somewhat annoyed buy the NtotheNth mediterranean perfume featuring citrus groves, herbs, and (optional) sea air. Seriously, how many of these colognes do you need? I am a citrus lover, but I find most of these variations sur thème interchangeable and not very interesting.
It might smell more original that the Ad copy suggests, though…You never know… 😉
(P.S. if you want a perfume smelling like Greece, try LMPTL, by LesNez: dusty trails leading to ancient monastries!)
Well, this is a natural so won’t have your typical synthetic “sea breeze” smell.
Totally agree about the Let me Play the Lion by Les Nez!!
Perfumeshrine
Despite the waaay over the top ad copy, I want to try this. Honey and citrus are some of my fave notes, and I’ve been wanting to explore this line as it is.
I want to try it too.
What Odysseus wore
When he walked through the door,
Having been gone for some 20 years.
And Penelope said
“You spent HOW MUCH? You bum! 20 years and not even a postcard!”
Moral: even Greek heroes should wait til it hits the online discounters.
HA! guess he was lucky that Penelope couldn’t string that darned bow!
LOL! Excellent.
I have succumbed after reading this ad copy – it’s working! I really want to try this one. The name does not hurt either; I cut my teeth on Greek mythology. Plus it has honey. Mmmm, honey….
I’m easier than you guys: if SIP makes it, I want to smell it. I don’t care about the ad copy 🙂
