Costume National launches their latest fragrance, Costume National Homme, this month:
CoSTUME NATIONAL HOMME is the traveller of a symbolic metropolitan jungle which seems made of emotions. He loves sobriety and he likes to surround himself with unique items, which reveal a deep research in quality and design. His style is essential and innovative, however he never forgets rock & roll energy. He combines elements apparently in contradiction, creating a new balance between night and day, severity and transgression.
He is seductive, mysterious... definitely UNIQUE!
Homme was developed by perfumer Dominique Ropion, and the notes for the "seductive and mysterious" fragrance include grapefruit, cardamom, bergamot, cinnamon, thyme, cloves, patchouli, sandalwood and labdanum.
Costume National Homme will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum. (via tfwa)
Update: see a review of Costume National Homme.
logorrhea, plain and simple 😉
This is your Le Prix Eau Faux winner right here, NST.
It’s silly to bother with a contest when the brands do so well on their own! But looking forward to trying this — they do nice fragrances.
Tell me this was translated from some other language.
Probably Italian!
I actually had to look up “sobriety” to make sure I wasn’t reading the press incorrectly…..definitely a strange use of the word. Despite the confusing description, I am eager to try this…..I have enjoyed just about everything in Costume National fragrance line.
I wonder if they meant sober in the sense of “marked by sedate or gravely or earnestly thoughtful character or demeanor”, but you’re right that sobriety in particular is more commonly used to refer to abstaining from drink/drugs.
If it’s translated from Italian, it definitely means sober in the sense of “marked by sedate or gravely or earnestly thoughtful character or demeanor”. We have the other meaning, but in this context it would sound absurd. We often say a “sober style” which isn’t the style of an ex-alcoholic, but in English I gather it must be less common.
In the US, “sober” is definitely used in that sense, just not “sobriety”, which tends to refer to the drinks/drugs.
If they took out the “He is seductive, mysterious… definitely UNIQUE!” at the end and put in “He is… confused” it would work for me.
possibly: “he is schizophrenic”
…bipolar…?
heheheh , apparently he’s all that….
🙂
Ooh, Ropion.
I wish this line was more available. Can you believe I STILL have not sniffed that damn 21 fragrance from them? I need to go order a decant right now, because I was thinking about it just a couple days ago too!
it wasn’t very special. what you really want is some Jubilation 25…… never mind this shiny coin swinging on a string in front of you…..
Didn’t you get my note? LOL 😉
ok, now I got your note…..we just can’t say no to Luckyscent can we, those perfume descriptions are like crack.
we need propaganda posters with a sad little STARVED piggy bank and they’ll say : Your bank acount on Luckyscent! Just say no!
I really liked 21, but not everyone did, it’s true!
Just ordered a sample of 21, so I will not be whining about it every six months anymore. 😉
😛
I’m a 21 fan AND CN Scent Intense fan too! 🙂
hmm, no flowers in the notes.
Doesn’t mean there aren’t any.
This reads like the description of a charachter who would appear on Japanese stationary!
“Afro Ken is a dog with a rainbow-coloured afro. He is innocent and blameless and always in a good mood. Afro Ken is always willing to try new things. Afro Ken is attracted to objects that look like he does. His hair changes to look like these things as he gets close to them.”
If you picture CoSTUME NATIONAL HOMME as the Prince (or better yet, King of All Cosmos) from the video game Katamari Damacy it totally works!
LOL!!
Awesome. 🙂
Just smelled this a week ago and thought it was lovely.
Oh good!
All I Can Say Is… ORGASMIC! MUST HAVE!
Then let us know how it is!
I stopped by the San Francisco Barney’s yesterday and this was the only new scent that really stood out. It smells very interesting, changing every few hours, sometimes spicy, sometimes cedary/sandalwoody. A day later, I can still smell it on my wrist, a winy smell like Bond No. 9’s West Side. This seems to be a big seller for them, they’re down to the last bottle of the second batch they’ve had since the beginning of the year. I think I may be getting this eventually.
Thanks so much! I still haven’t smelled it but want to.
On holidays to Paris & Milan, Perfume Heaven, in other words. Damage so far: Diptyqu Virgilio, Francis Kurkdjan Apom Pour Homme, Serge Lutens Fourreau Noir & Chergui and now… Costume National Homme. Of them all, I have to conceed, this IS the ONE. Was probably seduced by Kurkdjan’s “Maison” shop and his “piece of me” story for Apom, and Serge, well, it is Les salons du Palais Royal Shiseido after all isn’t it? Costume National Homme: standard bottle (the least beautiful of the lot), ok price (comparatively), but the scent, oh the scent. It’s definitely in the same family as other Costume National Scents, particularly Scent Intense and Intense Parfum. It opens almost like Intense Parfum, but a little fresher, probably due to the (listed) notes of grapefruit and bergamot, but fear not, this is not your generic fresh notes permeating the new wave of Hermes or Diptyque colognes. These notes float perfectly over its underlying aromatic ambergris base, before taking a backseat after roughly an hour. A mildly sweet ambergris note, common to other Intense scents, then take over, but this time round, more mellow and “masculine” with a twist. This smells like nothing out there in the market, in a good way. A perfect personal skin scent, it doesn’t scream Look At Me, but anyone close will definitely pick it up. Sillage is excellent and long-lasting. For those curious about it, what are you waiting for? Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did and will for months / years to come!
Thanks! Hope to try it soon.
