Brooklyn-based indie line D.S. & Durga will launch four new fragrances for women at Anthropologie in October:
East Mid East (shown) ~ "The crossroads of Asia lies upon the olden routes of the silk road. Markets teem with a beguiling array of smells—saffron, Indian cardamom, Russian roses, & red mandarins. Heady, deep, & exotic."
Royal Purpure ~ "A fragrant study upon the heraldic tinctures of medieval Anglo-Saxon families of Devonshire & Cornwall. Herbal tinctures of dwarf pine & fig leaves. Round cypress & cedar notes impart a cooling green freshness."
Smoked Amber ~ "The resin of an ancient holy tree extracted by Turkish nomads in earthen fire pits. Supported by other fragrant balsams, resins, & woods—opoponax, frankincense, birch, & cassia bark. Luscious & smoky."
1538 Rheims ~ "1538 Rheims. A handsome lady begins to appear in the upper window of a ruined tower enchanting the whole township. A minor chaplain searches the ruins in vain. The room she appears in is mysteriously locked. Air blows from beneath the door. It smells of musk, patchouli, iris, & ginger lily."
D.S. & Durga East Mid East, Royal Purpure, Smoked Amber & 1538 Rheims will be available in 18 ml, concentration unknown, for $48 each. (via dsanddurga.blogspot, with many thanks to Joe for the tip!)

Those sound delightful! I’m definitely going to have to seek those out next time my girlfriend drags me into anthropologie!
Might as well!
I am hoping my local Anthropologie has testers, though I usually only go in there about once a year for holiday shopping.
I hope mine has them too…they sound very try-worthy 🙂
I *really* need to check this line out, and this looks like a good place to start! Most have at least one difficult note for me, but sound so perfect otherwise that my fingers are crossed. Thought there was an Anthropologie at the MOA, but I was wrong, so I might be forced to venture into frightening territory to find a tester. 🙁
Pretty sure they sell samples at their website, too.
Yep, but free is always nice if you can get it. 🙂
Yep!
There is an Anthropoligie at 50th and France that is quite large. I don’t think there’s one in MOA.
So happy to see DS & Durga getting the credit they deserve. No silly pretentious bottles or unintentionally comedic press releases, just straight up quality perfumes. I only wish there were some new Men’s fragrances as well, but I understand Anthropologie doesn’t really cater to men, I think? The Smoked Amber, however, I will try regardless.
So far as I know, Anthropologie doesn’t carry men’s clothing, although half the store is housewares sort of things. Still, mostly women’s stuff.
Like the bottle. East Mideast and the Royal Purpure (of the purple prose) sound just up my alley.
I really like their plain bottles, but this one is fine too.
Ooh, thanks for the tip! I love DS & Durga. Cowboy Grass is sage-y and smooth and is one of my husband’s favorites. $$ is great also. I didn’t love Cowgirl Grass enough to buy a full bottle (a little heavy on the tuberose), so I will be running down to Anthro to try Royal Purpure.
Hope you’ll like it 🙂
nom nom nom on these. I have never tried this line but I guess I am gonna hafta start. I never remember to visit Anthropologie – I guess I will have to add it to my scent-sleuthing trip rotation.
My local store almost never has testers, unfortunately…hope other stores are better about it.
How the heck do they sell anything?
Beats me!
No Anthropologie here, so I’ll wait to hear from some urban sampler. These sound delicious.
Yes they do!
This is a first: every one of those sounds good to me. I see a trip to Anthropologie in my future!
They all sound good to me too!
Well at least the marketing of these fragrances is a nice change from the stuff we so often see that is borderline pornographic and generally insulting to women.
But really – ‘the resin of an ancient holy tree extracted by Turkish nomads’? ‘A fragrant study upon the heraldic tinctures of medieval Anglo-Saxon families’?
I don’t want my nose anywhere near any medieval Anglo-Saxon families thank you very much, no matter how fine their heraldic tinctures may be.
LOL!
