In addition to the 3 Fleurs fragrance announced yesterday, Parfum d'Empire will also be launching Wazamba: "a forest of aromatic pine that reveals the thousand faces of incense, a sacred substance in all the great civilizations".
The notes include aldehydes, incense, myrrh, sandalwood, opoponax, cypress, apple and balsam of fir.
Parfum d'Empire Wazamba will be in Eau de Parfum. I'll update with sizes when I find them. (via finmark.it)
Update: read a review of Parfum d'Empire Wazamba. (And by the way, it's in 50 and 100 ml.)
Sounds perfect for fall. I love CDG’s Zagorsk, so will definitely be trying this one.
It sounds right up my alley…looking forward to it!
Incense, myrhh, opoponax….I’m drooling. And what a great name. “What perfume are you wearing?” “WaZAMba!” It’s right up there with Dzing! and Dzongha.
I know, what a name. Makes you suspect someone let their two-year old name it.
It’s a perfect name, not least because it means nothing to me.
I love the name – it’s hilarious and not in the unintentional way that they usually are. The juice sounds really interesting too.
It probably means something. Hope I never find out what.
Do. Not. Google. Trust me…it’ll ruin everything, even though they probably got it from somewhere else.
Ack. Don’t tell me.
It sounds and looks like something you see written in a cartoon bubble after one character thumps another on the head with a comedy oversized hammer 😀
ohhh a forest of aromatic pine? With all the other notes, I can’t wait to try this!
But I’ve been on a trend of being very good with expenditures…. So we’ll see if it’s love or infatuation.
I’ve been good about not buying unsniffed lately…I will wait!
Mmm, this sounds really, really good.
Yep.
Hoping opoponax is not what I think, or that it’s not very prominent; this sounds perfect otherwise! Funny that they call it a forest of pine, yet list cypress and fir balsam in the notes; wonder if they left the pine off as obvious, or just use “pine” generically, as I do, for “evergreen”.
I thought that too – “So where’s the pine, then?” Have to say that I’m a little scared of the evergreen stuff, but the incense sounds fab.
WaZAMba!
Are these people trying to bankrupt me? So good!!!
WaZAMba! I love it, it could be like our own little secret perfumista greeting…. WaZAMba….the response obviously: WaZAMba!
It will be interesting to see if this becomes another “Mom’s art studio” varnish and resin smell like AT’s Incense Extreme, or if I will be able to get away with it. Also seems like it could teeter toward car air freshener. But it’s on my List!
I’ll take the art studio over the car freshener, myself!
I need to try this
On the list it goes…
From a close read of the ad copy, it sounds as if the pine is under the umbrella of “incense”. If so, I’d be surprised if the pine and fir didn’t drown out the myrhh, sandalwood and opoponax, leaving a Christmas tree scent. But if I’ve learned anything on my perfume journey, it’s that you really can’t tell much from the list of notes. This could very well be fantastic!
SPOILER (ROBIN, DON’T READ): Wazamba is African for old women or midwives.
Now how could I avoid reading that, LOL??? But it’s ok because I have a dismal memory, so I’ll forget it before I get to smell the scent 🙂
I wonder what boojum found on Google that was so scary! 😉 I found the following:
Seems meant to evoke Africa, but the only reference to “wazemba” in that context is use as a word for old woman or midwife in an old ethnography of Nyasaland, which I believe became Malawi. I somehow doubt that a midwife reference is what PdE was shooting for, however.
when I looked it up on google, I found nowsmellthis lol
No, probably not, Joe. I’m thinking more in the context of crone or wise woman. And maybe someone just heard the word and said, “Hey! That would make a good name for a perfume!”
or maybe they just made something up that sounded like something in an African language.
There are Japanese bands with nonsensical French or German names because they just wanted the name to sound ~*cool*~
Joe, I’m doubting too, esp. since this one sounds like it’s more masculine.
LOL, I found approximately what you did. Having had 2 children myself, I want nothing evoking a midwife or childbirth in my perfume, TYVM. But as I also said, I can’t imagine that’s where they got it (or what they meant by it).
definitely adding these to my next order of samples from luckyscent…as soon as that’s posslble.
i WILL find an incensey fragrance that i actually like. i will! and i’ll also try not to let my distaste for rose get in the way of my love for jasmine and tuberose.
i have a soft spot for parfum d’empire, even when a particular fragrance of theirs isn’t something i would buy.
I have a soft spot for them too, although I haven’t fallen in love w/ any of them to the point of purchasing.
This sounds awesome. The copy reminded me of CdG’s Incense: Zagorsk. Definitely be getting a sample.
I’ll definitely try it too…hoping it’s darker than Zagorsk, although I do like Zagorsk too.
Be still my heart. Must. Try. This.
🙂
