French tablewear company Astier de Villatte launched a range of scented candles, soaps and colognes late last year. There are three Eaux de Cologne, all developed in collaboration with perfumer Françoise Caron:
L'Eau Chic (shown) ~ "A genuine Françoise Caron original, under its tame exterior lies an explosive character. A subtle balance of white flowers (Ylang-Ylang, sensitive rose, mysterious tuberose) and nervous, fresh intensity from rosemary, thyme, petitgrain citronnier, and lavender."
Eau Fugace ~ "A flash of lightning, a sharp and lilting fusion of a spruce citrus blend, delectable orange, gentle bergamot, and the greenest touch of lemon. And as it develops on skin, not fading but becoming more and more appealing, a luscious trail of aromatic herbs and patchouli, sunny and clean."
Eau de Cologne Astier de Villatte ~ "This fresh splash will instantly wake up any sleeping beauty. A morning shock-wave both stylish and straightforward. A flare of verbena, aromatic effusions of lavender, rosemary, basil; the lift of a fleeting floral note. And a trace of benzoin to secure a lasting freshness."
Astier de Villatte L'Eau Chic, Eau Fugace & Eau de Cologne Astier de Villatte are available in 3 sizes, which might be 40, 70 and 900 ml (I have seen varying reports). (via astierdevillatte, with thanks to Kevin for the tip!)
These sound so appealing (even though it’s cold and wet this morning—again) especially Eau Fugace: spruce , citrus, orange, bergamot?? mmm-mmm, just saying those notes aloud makes me feel invigorated! Strange size range (maybe) though, for what appears to be 2 splashes and a spray in cologne strength…although it would be nice to have a smallish bottle –less committment.
They do sound really nice.
Their web site is kind of cool. I will be interested to see if the “home” stores in my area will carry these. They sound delightful, but I especially have my eye on Eau Chic.
I would really like a set of their dinner plates…they have some gorgeous things. Pricey though!
The notes look great, and I love the bottles, but the “nervous, fresh intensity” and “morning shock-wave” sound terrifying!
LOL…bad translations, I’m guessing? They can’t have meant nervous!
They have a really cool website, with French and English descriptions. Their copy in French is pretty similar. “L’onde du choc du matin” is indeed your morning shock-wave; strictly speaking, “fraicheur nerveuse intense” means “nervous, intense freshness” (as opposed to “nervous, fresh intensity”, their translation), but it also means “vigorous, intense freshness”. I think I’d rather wear a bracing, vigorous scent than a nervous one! I wonder what a nervous scent would smell like–fear sweat?
Thanks for the translation! It’s a nicely designed site, agree.
Wow, all three of these sound like summer (in Provence) in a bottle! I’d be curious to sniff all three.
I checked their website, and that biggest bottle is indeed 900 ml. Who on earth needs almost a liter of one perfume??
I could not find the sizes on the website…I’ll look again.
Haha… I can see Molly’s point, but I’m assuming they’re colognes on the order of 4711. Yeah, 900ml….
These do sound really nice and I like the packaging. And you’re right, R., their tableware looks great, but definitely out of my range. I found them and a whole lot of other drool-inducing stuff on a site called tabulatua.com.
Will check out tabulatua, but yeah, not much chance I’m getting those plates 😉
L’eau Chic – a ‘fresh nervous intensity’ – makes me, well, nervous. LOL I’m sure something is lost in translation, but what a hoot. These splashes sound absolutely wonderful though.
Yes, they could use some smoothing over in English!
