The big Tom Ford gift for 2008: the Tom Ford Private Blend coffret, with 2 ml rollerballs in each of the 12 original Tom Ford Private Blend fragrances. Says Tom, "Private Blend is my own scent laboratory; it's where I have the ability to create very special, original fragrances that are unconstrained by the conventions of mainstream scent-making. Private Blend is designed with the true fragrance connoisseur in mind." Ok? $225 at Nordstrom or Neiman Marcus.
And the budget Tom Ford gift for 2008: the wonderful (despite being constrained by the conventions of mainstream scent-making) Gucci Pour Homme, packaged here with a 50 ml Eau de Toilette + a 200 ml All Over Shampoo. $45.90 at Beauty Encounter.
Tom Ford is too run-of-the-mill? For the movie fan with a sense of humor, check out the Hitchcock Psycho soap 3-pack at Chase Street Soap Co at Etsy. It was originally created as a Halloween limited edition and is only available through 12/15, and includes the solid red Blood Bath bar (which promises to dye the water red), the coconut and chocolate Norman Split Personality bar, and the fruit-scented Boy's Best Friend bar. $18.
A home fragrance gift for a romantic, the Left Bank votive set from the Charlotte Moss collection at Agraria. "Introduced with fresh top notes of crisp lemongrass and crushed Pink Peppercorn Blossoms, the mid notes of Frankincense and Patchouli surround you as Cashmere Wood warms the Background." Three 1.7-oz votives in a "keepsake jewelry box" lined with marbleized paper, $60.
And the stocking stuffers: on the left, Boss Lady Bubble Bath ("Cool down with a hot soak. After a long day on the range, sink into honeysuckle scented bubbles enhanced with Cactus Flower and Sage.") Currently on markdown from $11 to $7.20 at Sesto Senso. On the right, a trio of Schweppes lip balms from Sephora (Pink Grapefruit Seltzer, Tonic Water, and Lime soda), $16.
OK, the Tom Ford coffret has me seriously rethinking my wish list from yesterday's poll.
I've seen the Tom Ford coffret in real life and must say I'm quite disappointed with the packaging. The rollerballs look really plain and cheap – they're really just vials with a sticker stuck on. =/
It they weren't rollerballs, I'd be more interested!
That's a shame. Still bet it will sell!
I think I've finally reached the blasé stage regarding the TFPBs. Thank goodness.
Those Schweppes tins are great though — love that kind of vintage packaging.
I want those Schweppes tins too! Actually, I'd take one of each of the above.
Yes, very unfair – ask us for our Christmas wish lists and then dangle new toys in front of us…. (sulks…) 😉
The Tom Ford collection does look lovely, but I would have thought he would have gone the small apothecary bottles in a wooden cigar box route… now THAT would be a gift!
The TF Collection is a shame! The price, the packaging… whoever buys it should win an award for being a “rather not so clever” consumer.
Sorry for these harsh words.
How I love Gucci Pour Homme!! that's all :o)
Sorry!
And SO agree on the little apothecary bottles…although if this is already $225, who knows what they'd charge for that!
True! But given how hard samples of these are to come by, I can still see someone appreciating getting the set as a gift.
It's truly a great scent, and almost comically cheap in comparison to what you pay for a “Private Blend”.
Absolutely!! I would love that as a gift :o) I personally wouldn't pay that much for it (I have samples of those, anyway) and would rather use the $$ to buy a FB, but as a gift I'd never say no :o)
I find none of these items that exciting! Or holiday in nature.
Someone on MakeupAlley actually figured out that you could buy all those samples for about $99 at The Perfumed Court. Wouldn't get the gift box, of course 🙂
I just got it for Christmas, and I love it! On my own there were several of the private blends that I liked and from which I couldn't really choose, or didn't want to – not sure I'd ever have bought any of them on their own, but they are fun to smell all at once and I love having samples of all of them. As far as packaging, it's nothing impressive, but it still makes a cool gift, and as far as price, well, I didn't pay for it!
I would like to know what's wrong with rollerballs, though…? What makes them disappointing? I seriously don't have a clue of such things. Are they just cheap or something?
Rollerballs are probably fine if you are scrupulous about only using them on just-washed skin, but if you're not, eventually you'll see little bits of “stuff” (basically, dust & dead skin & whatnot) that the rollerball has picked up off your skin and is now floating in the perfume. Many people love them though — they're very convenient.
Oh, well, ew. At least it will discourage others from wanting to use my perfume. 🙂
