Madrid-based The Lab Room has launched the 7 Scent Collection...
...a selection of natural perfumes inspired by the ancient traditions of alchemy and metaphysics. The seven essences are the creation of Monica Ceño Elie-Joseph and originated with the idea of intermingling seven distinct yet complementary scents to arrive at a perfume which reflects your mood.
[...] The assembled essences cross the range of all the top, middle and base notes to empower the creation of unique perfumes that infuse with the skin to release an original cascade of scents.
The fragrances, which can be worn alone or layered, are:
1 Amyris ~ "This base note, is a woody scent from Haiti, that recreates the mystery of the caribbean mingled with african traditions, giving it's wearer inner strength. Mix with 3,5,6."
2 Commiphora ~ "Myrrha , a base note, balsamic and velvety, is the scent of the chosen, always etheric and fascinating. It induces meditation and contemplation, stimulating the energetic centers of your mind and body. Mix with 1, 6."
3 Tuberosa ~ "A blend of middle floral notes of tuberose, jasmine sambac and geranium, associated to sensuality, thus the drawing of the opium flower. This blend is freshened by a touch of orange. Mix with 5, 6."
4 Cedrus Rosae ~ "Cedar intensifies the indian rose absolute and they both linger on the mystic patchouli creating a blend of persistency that evokes love, sexuality and misticysm. Mix it with 7."
5 Pimentae ~ "The pungent and vibrant quality of the west indies bay recreate the deep world of the Caribbean heritage combined with citrics like bitter orange and tangerine, both top notes wrapped by the floral note of the geranium. Mix with 3,7."
6 Odoratae ~ "East and west have never been closer, a symbiotic mix between fresh lavander, and geranium topped by the intoxicating ylang ylang flower sensual and calming at the same time. Mix with 2, 3."
7 Bergamia ~ "A classic of parfumery, Italian bergamot, radiant and illuminating, infuses itself with French rose and the persistency of cypress mediterranean hills. Mix with 4, 5."
Each of the 7 fragrances comes in a 12 ml Perfume Oil roll-on with illustrations by designer Miguel Domingo; the set is 150€ 175€. (via press release) P>
Is that price for real? While “Tuberosa” sounds nice, those containers remind me of an “Auric Blends” lineup. What is with all this insane pricing of “exclusive” fragrances? And while I can appreciate a roll-on fragrance, wouldn't combining them taint each tube, altering the scents in doing so? I wonder if that's supposed to be the point–to slowly mix them as you choose, until each is eventually an unexpected, blended result. I'd rather just go with “Auric Blends” itself, “Eden Botanicals” or “Terra Nova” and pay $6.00-$16.00 per tube.
FYI, alchemy has nothing to do with metaphysics. The former is an archaic form of scientific investigation, the latter is a branch of philosophy, which has little to do with concocting potions or mysticism. Perhaps a better choice of diction would lead the line away from an air of pretentiousness.
All correctness aside, 4, 2, and 7 sound interesting.
You must never pass the roll on on the same part of the skin where you have previously rolled a scent. You apply it on different areas and then mix them. Depending on how much you use, the fragrances you will end up creating will be entirely different. I dont know the blends you are naming but the essences we have used are all natural and some of them quite expensive…I dont want to tell you the price of 1 kg of real tuberose but believe me the price of the box is not that expensive when you considered that you have 7 perfumes, all natural that will age beautifully and which have been concieved to work sinergetically between each other. Anyway thanks for your comments, although I am the creator I really appreciate all feed back.
Even though I ended up becoming a perfumist, I studied art history, and evn though you point really well at the differences of both areas of studies, I have combined both to create the 7 scents collection. The perfume box carries a detailed explanation of this matters and has been inspired to a certain extent by Jacon Boehme. “The work is done when the seven become one. The seven must become one yet remain seven, with but one desire, as each entity aspires to the love of the others, so that there are no disputes among them” (Jacob Boehme, De Signatura Rerum1621)
NLB, we'll have to hope they smell more sophisticated than Auric Blends, I guess…it isn't a cheap set. I know lots of people love roll-ons, but I'm not a fan and usually decant into something else.
