Lisa Hoffman has introduced the fourth fragrance in her Variations collection: Madagascar Orchid. Like the earlier Variations scents (see French Clary Sage, Tunisian Neroli and Tuscan Fig), it is packaged in a set of four versions designed to be worn at different times of the day and night (morning, daytime, evening and bedtime).
The Madagascar orchid note was captured through the Scent Trek process (see "Headspace technology" in the Glossary), and is described as "full bodied and lush...a delicate white flower, with a scent that is reminiscent of lily and tuberose". Additional notes include orange, bergamot, neroli, jasmine, peony, amber and soft musk.
Lisa Hoffman Madagascar Orchid is available in a set of four 5 ml perfume oil rollerballs, $150 in a leather case (as shown) or $90 for the refill bottles only. (quote via lisahoffmanskincare, additional information via dermstore, rainforestfoundationuk.org)
Here I thought that super-cool looking leather case might be a set of all 4 fragrances (even if the fragrances aren't all that, I'd want the case!) But four variations for different times of day?? Sounds twee and a bit too much work! And perfume oil rollerballs…. meh. Oh well, the packaging is great.
Agree — I'd be much more likely to buy that! I don't want to wear the same scent 24 hours a day anyway.
I just wonder if they are like totally different, four scents, or just basically the same thing just changed a lil bit for each time of the 24-h period.
This has to be one of the lamest things I have heard. There are just too many gimmicks in perfumery these days.
No, they're basically the same scent w/ subtle variations.
As I said, it doesn't appeal to me in the least — but I can see a “signature scent” kind of person finding this very appealing.
The price tag too is a bit steep — and in these hard times, I wonder how perfumeries could keep their sales going and survive…

It will be interesting to see if the number of new releases drops over the coming years.
I can barely manage to get my perfume on at the onset of the day and I certainly don't have the time to 'apply on schedule'. If I'm going to do that, I am going to want to switch off during the day/evening, like so many other perfumistas.
This sounds like a silly gimmick. I'll save my meagre simoleans for a bottle of Apres l'Ondee.
xo
Haven't tried them, so can't comment on the lasting power. Seems pricey to me too, but they're hardly the most expensive thing on the market.
That's the thing — these aren't perfumista scents, I guess, since most perfumistas want to switch off anyway. She's got an Agarwood set coming up which I would like to smell though.
