Dawn Spencer Hurwitz has added three new fragrances to the Essence collection:
Marc (shown, with Sophie) ~ A scent inspired by fictional character Marc Hunter, the "super-sexy 'bad boy' hero" in Pamela Clare's romantic suspense novel Unlawful Contact; Marc features "car grease, mountain woodsmoke and sweet - salty sweat". The notes include bergamot, spices, spruce, frankincense, juniper berry, sandalwood, sage, ambergris, cedarwood, sandalwood, brown oakmoss, coffee absolute, leather, musk and sequoia.
Sophie ~ Inspired by the character Sophie Alton (also from Pamela Clare's Unlawful Contact). "Sense Sophie's fresh, flowery perfume co-mingled with what Marc calls her "sweet wild musk"... Sophie smells of wildflowers and a subtle sensuality." The notes include clementine, gardenia, peach, violet, jasmine, honeysuckle, tiger lily, ylang ylang, amber, ambergris, civet, honey, honey musk, sandalwood and musk.
Luckyclover ~ "The arrival of Spring makes me feel as lucky as a bee in clover! It's a magical scent that is strangely sweet, earthly green and mischievously innocent. Feel the charm and playfulness of a fairy sprite or (maybe a bee) in Luckyclover." The notes include bee balm, bergamot, clover blossoms, linden blossom, clover leaf, honey beeswax, liatrix, vetiver, honey, moss and patchouli.

Other recent launches from Dawn Spencer Hurwitz: St. Valentine and Pretty & Pink, Madonna Lily.
Pardon me while I LAUGH UNTIL IT HURTS. DSH is basing her new perfumes off of a trashy romance novel?! That's like basing a perfume of of Paris Hilton… oh wait–
I suppose at least the characters weren't called Dave and Edna: “What are you wearing?”, “Eau de Dave”. Still though I don't think I could bring myself to wear Marc or Sophie.
Perhaps DSH needs some new books.
Hey, maybe it's a non-trashy romance novel!
Dave & Edna, LOL!
if it's car-oriented (as in car-grease? what the heck is 'car grease'?) shouldn't it be Ethyl?
Seriously, though, it sounds like a Fonzie cologne
Wait a minute, wait a minute. I know Marc. It's spelled with a K. I see him every time I make a Walmart run. All 4,576 of him, at any given time.
Oh…that was bad….And that's coming from the daughter of one of the gretest purveyors of puns to walk the planet- my dad.
I love the idea of Fonzie having a cologne.
And, shoot me for saying this just because the add was soooo ridiculous, but that last one sounds pretty good, actually. Of course, I'm still gun shy when I hear anything even remotely relating to honey, all because of my horrific Miel de Bois experience. Oy veh.
So, when are they going to make fragrances for characters/ historical figures that actually matter? Like, say, Becky in Vanity Fair? Heck, I'd wear a perfume inspired by her. Or maybe Elizabeth Bennet, or Marie Antoinette….perhapsLady Macbeth ought to have a scent. I can see it now: Scents of Classic English Literature.
I'd buy it.
hmmm. tough crowd today.
I like DSH scents — she's imaginative. And who's to say she's not being camp with the “inspiration” of a trashy novel. Who really knows what inspired “En Passant” or “Une Fleur de Cassie”? I mean, other than what an imaginative marketer has told us?
xoxo
Lady Macbeth has the Juliette Has A Gun line, “inspired by Shakespearean heroines”. But yes, we need Becky & Lizzie Bennet!
LOL!
HA — I was just thinking last night that I don't mind a bit when people rip into the latest dept store fruity floral, but I squirm when it's a little indie line. Thanks for sticking up for DSH — I like the line too.
Ah, true. I'd forgotten about that.
But yeah, Bekcy would certainly be memorable…and probably more than a little skanky.
Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab is overflowing with that kind of stuff: blackphoenixalchemylab.com
I'm an equal-opportunity critic. And I haven't even smelled the juice, so don't take what I say too seriously. Everyone knows DSH's products are exceptional.
Well, we all ought to be equal opportunity critics I guess — I just like the underdogs 🙂
But no worries, I didn't take anything too seriously and did not mean to be calling anyone out.
