French Cognac house Frapin has launched a quartet of new fragrances:
Terre de Sarment (shown) ~ "Terre de Sarment opens with a clean, innocent, soapy note and gets more complicated and sensuous with every passing moment. Exuberant orange blossom intertwines with tendrils of incense and spice over the deep purr of vanilla, benzoin and tobacco." Additional notes include grapefruit, neroli, cumin, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Esprit de Fleurs ~ "A subtle and elegant floral that is as dry as brut champagne -- airy and crystalline and not the least bit sugary." Featuring bergamot, tangerine, grapefruit, basil, pepper, pink berries, orris, jasmine, rose, vanilla, cedar and vetiver.
Caravelle Epicée ~ "Caravelle Epicée takes its name from the spice ships of long ago, but there is nothing remotely aquatic or damp here. This is heat and spice -- the dry interplay of pepper and coriander, nutmeg and tobacco, patchouli and precious sandalwood." Additional notes include thyme, gaiac wood and amber.
Passion Boisée ~ "Clean and elegant and dry, this is a fragrance suitable for hobnobbing in distinguished company; sinking into a leather club chair in front of a crackling fire and sipping a fine cognac while holding forth confidently on the matters of the day." The notes are tangerine, nutmeg, rum, oak moss, clove, leather, patchouli and cedarwood.
Frapin Terre de Sarment, Esprit de Fleurs, Caravelle Epicée and Passion Boisée are $140 each for 100 ml Eau de Parfum at Luckyscent.
I like the original Frapin and even enjoy the room scents, but, for whatever reason, had very limited expectations about these four. I think it has to do w/ the fact that I seriously distrust multiple releases. Anyway, was very pleasantly surprised by the woods one. I may need a bottle of it. The opening didn't do much for me, but the dry down had me resniffing my wrist all afternoon. The spice one was enjoyable as well, but not more than decant worthy for me.
Thanks, haven't tried them yet. I'm getting a bit weary of multiple releases too.
just got samples of the Boisee and the Epicee and was mightly disappointed by both. They seem watery to me, compared with Frapin 1270's depth and richness. Not very long lasting for me, either. I thought they'd be great for Fall, but they're just not that memorable.
In this oversaturated fragrance market, I would think a cognac house might get a better return on its beverages… But in any case, Caravelle Epicee definitely piques my interest. Way too many new launches to sample, one after another after another! Sigh.
Passion Boisee doesn't sound bad either, but that copy just makes me want to rebel and “hobnob” in a lawn chair while sipping cheap beer and gossiping about B-list celebrities. Is it also suitable for *that*?
I'm trying to remember 1270 but I can't. I'm sure I've tried it. I do like the 1270 bottle better than these.
*That* calls for something downmarket, LOL — not quite Axe, but maybe…what, English Leather?
The neroli and cumin in Terre de Sarment turn me off, but the other three sound delish based on the notes. But the deluge of all 4 at the same time makes me not want to try any of them. Too much work. My nose is getting lazy.
I think that is why these multi-releases are getting tiresome — there are too many of them, and too much other product launching at the same time. I'm getting lazy too…
