Social Creatures is a new line of hand-made perfumes from the UK:
Socialcreatures is a 21st century family business founded by Russell Newell. We are a multi-discipline creative practice whose work is often conceptual in origin. We have chosen fragrance as a way to express these concepts and share them with others.
SocialCreatures expresses our view about the world and how people can interact with each other.
Their signature scent is Rebel ambush: a few good spirits can start a revolution. Rebel Ambush for men is "an earthy reminder that the struggle for freedom can be won against overwhelming odds", and is dedicated to the Maroons of Jamaica:
The earthy smell of the fresh forest, smoke rising from the campfire, and the intoxicating aroma of night blooms. The scent includes notes of lavender, tobacco, vanilla, sandalwood, champaca, sweet orange and cardamom.
Utopian: in this world there is always a place for hope (see image at top) was inspired by the "optimism and hope that emerged from post-WW2 Britain". The fragrance was developed for Real Real Genuine, and is described as...
...a fresh scent with a modern edge. It builds on traditional themes with fresh, herbaceous top notes of Myrtle, Lavender and Bergamot. These open up to the rare and precious Orris which, combined with the spiciness of Carnation, provides an intriguing quality and character. The rich powdery dry-down finally reveals notes of Cognac, Tonka, and Frankincense.
Social Creatures Rebel Ambush and Utopian are £140 each for 100 ml Eau de Toilette. Samples are available for £2 each.
Frankfurt kitchen: time for creativity, love and friends is expected to launch later in the year. It was inspired by the Frankfurt Kitchen designed by Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky in the 1920s:
Frankfurt Kitchen scent is a rich gourmand mixture - both sexy and mouthwatering at the same. The scent is a rich fruity, ambery mix of resins, peppermint, coffee and osmanthus (a beautiful chinese flower often used to make tea with subtle fruity notes similar to apricot and plum).
The line is expected to debut in several US stores shortly; in the meantime, the company will ship overseas. (via socialcreatures)
We haven't heard the word “revolution” in relation to perfume in a while. I guess it was overdue to pop up again. *sigh* Plus “freedom”. And they even mention WWII. Where is it going be sold, on History Channel?
True enough — but if these are as good as Le Labo, I'll forgive the rhetoric 🙂
Yaaaaaaawn
LOL — you have made your point with your 5 yawns, but I will not respond to them all so this will have to do!
I wonder who the founder Russell Newell is? Is he a trained perfumer or was there any trained perfumer involved with this brand? Whenever I see the word “niche” together with “hand-made” and “mostly natural”, I freak out. Is this just some one wanting a “change in career”, deciding to teach themselves perfumery? What about IFRA? Allergens?
This fragrance brand is not listed on the Michael Edwards site, and that's not the be-all-and-end-all of resources but it does raise questions about its integrity…no? Hmmm….
Here I am. I am fully aware of the IFRA regs and comply with the recommended safe limits etc (check the FAQ). Yes I am a creative with a point of view (no apologies there) so it might not be for everyone. I created the SocialCreatures fragrances personally as my initial training some years ago was with naturals. I am currently also developing commercial (synthetic based) fragrance projects for high street brands with a leading UK fragrance consultancy, who have many fragrances listed by Michael Edwards. Let me know if you have any other questions and I will try to answer them.
Will just note that many smaller artisanal houses are not listed w/ Michael Edwards — it is not, to me at least, an indicator of integrity at all. And hand-made/mostly natural are almost always niche, by definition. My own issue is not whether or not it is simply someone wanting a career change but whether or not the scents are any good.
Hey! Here I am with a belated “Sorry!” for my suspicions 🙂 thanks for your reply and for quelling my fears… and best of luck & congratulations for your perfumes which I look forward to smelling and wearing!
Not to be confused with the famous burned R11 on the Machine Control Board, this little nasty is on the board down inside the machine, below the drum. You can’t just replace the fuse– nawsir, you ain’t gettin’ off that easy…. or cheap. You’ll need to replace the motor and motor control board upgrade kit. Yessir, it’s just one of the many exciting common problems included with these washers at no additional charge!
