Miller Harris has released a new fragrance, Coeur d’Été, with chocolate bean, licorice, lemon, grapefruit, tangerine, banana, white pear, lilac, cassie, heliotrope, sandalwood, benzoin, vanilla and fruity musk.
It is a limited edition, and is available now in the United States at lusciouscargo (get free shipping with coupon code NSTRULES) and Saks Fifth Avenue (the NY store); and in the UK at musthave.
Penelope sent me a sample of this and it is really lovely. It smells nothing like what I'd expect from reading the notes. It is not at all foody or sweet or overly fruity. It is warm and sophisticated and unusual. If it had greater staying power, I'd buy it. You wonder when Lynn Harris is going to figure out that her perfumes would sell a lot better if she put more—um— scent in them. I mean, isn't being able to smell it after 5 seconds sort of the whole point of perfume? It's really a shame in this case, because there's a lot of artistry in Coeur d'Ete.
L, completely agree, it was not at all what I expected from the notes. Have only tried once so far, but would agree that the lasting power didn't seem fantastic. But surprised you feel that way about the whole line. I think of most of them as very heavy & long lasting. The ones I love, of course, like Fleur du Matin, don't last.
Sounds like she's got a recipe for a great dessert, but I will take both your and LA's words for it that this does not smell at all foody.
I have only tried or owned a few, but I find that her fragrances have very good lasting power on my skin.
Hugs!
It is much softer than most of her fragrances. I heard from the SA at Saks that she created it when she was pregnant & smells were bothering her.
And, she obviously had food cravings! LOL!
Can't imagine what my own pregnancy fragrance would smell like…but probably some sickening combination of vanilla ice cream and potato chips!
L’Air de Rien led to me finding one of my all-time favourite scents: Miller Harris’ Coeur de Fleur.
I thought I’d give Coeur d’Ete a go, because I suffer from a lot of migraines and I thought it would be a light, gentle scent I could stomach, mainly because Lyn Harris says she invented it when she was pregnant and could barely stand any fragrance – she wanted something she could use during pregnancy. Maybe this is why some posters found it doesn’t last?
Anyway, among the samples I was sent was Coeur d’Ete and I fell in love instantly. To me it is joy in a bottle: summer and sunshine. It is pure mimosa (to me) – a fragrance I love. I instantly picture the bright, happy colour of the fluffily mimosa flower. I’m from London, and Coeur d’Ete reminds me of sitting in the sunshine in France while on a French exchange programme in my mid-teens. And it has incredible lasting-power: it’s still there the next morning. If you get the chance (I don’t know how available Miller Harris scents are in America) try it – it’s bottled happiness.
