Pushkar is a scent of distant bonfires pervading the cool autumnal air. Sweet gentle incense derived from agarwood intertwines with a warm balsamic note creating a scent that is perfect for a day when one feels unreasonably stressed. Its serene soothing quality never fails to make one feel comforted. Unlike a citrusy element present in unburned frankincense or a charcoal redolent facet of its burned variety, the character of incense in Pushkar is soft and smooth, lacking sharp resinous edges. If it spoke, it would have a mellifluous voice. An almost floral character of its wood notes contrasts beautifully with a whisper of sweet smoke.
On the list of my favourite candle brands, Tocca is ranked quite highly, because not only do the candles have a lovely appearance, they are also very long lasting (with a few exceptions). Their white and robin egg blue presentation is excellent — elegant, chic and minimalist enough to suit most interior designs. The candles come in a range of beautiful scents, from incense to tomato leaf. Besides Pushkar, my other favourites include apricot scented Kyoto and lush Rodolfo. The latter is such a lovely tuberose fragrance, I wish it were available in a fragrance form.
The full size candles contain 10.5 oz of wax and burn for up to 60 hours. A lovely matchbook is included with every candle. Priced at $32 for 10.5 oz and $14 for 2.85 oz, Tocca candles are available at beautyhabit, bigelowchemists, lacremebeauty, lusciouscargo, and saksfifthavenue.
I absolutely love Tocca candles. My favorites are Havana, Grace, and Sofia. But I sometimes find that they produce quite a bit of smoke upon blowing them out. Several times I've had to place a plate over the candle to stop the smoke – it had actually drifted upward and left a grey mark on my ceiling.
Ah, a very good point. I noticed this about some of the candles and not others. My Pushkar and Rodolfo burn cleanly, while Kyoto does not. Which is even worse, given that Kyoto is such a delicate scent. I also have plates on hand for covering the candles. 🙂
Of course I read the name as “Pushkin”…:-) This sounds heavenly.
LOL! I read it as Pushkin as well, when I was selecting a new Tocca candle. 🙂
So funny – my eyes keep wanting to read it as Pushkin as well! I don't know about this particular one, but you sure have my attention now about the Rodolfo you mention.
Will have to review Rodolfo soon, because it is an amazing tuberose candle.
