Capturing a grove of night blooming jasmine is a next to impossible task for a candle, yet Red Flower Indian Jasmine comes close. At first, the scent is subtle and gentle, a bare whisper of white flowers, however about half an hour after lighting the candle, one is suddenly surrounded by the opulent fragrance of jasmine. The scent is rich, yet soft, vacillating between green jasmine flowers and barely opened gardenia buds. The alluring scent makes Indian Jasmine candle a perfect choice for a romantic evening.
Despite my affection for the fragrance, I find myself slightly annoyed with the poor presentation of Red Flower candles. Melting wax leaves unsightly marks on the transparent glass, and the wick is difficult to trim, given the small diameter of even the largest candle. Moreover, the candle comes with dried jasmine flowers, which are a superfluous addition. Dried flowers do not have much scent and seem to create more trouble than they should, especially when they stick to the wax.
However, until I find a more perfect jasmine scented candle, I will continue to repurchase Red Flower. The candles are available in 1.5oz votives for $12, and 6oz for $32 at beautyhabit, celadonspa, drugstore.com, and shobha.
I agree w/ you about the presentation problems of the Red Flower candles, but I do adore the scent of the Indian Jasmine and also love the Thai Honeysuckle. They have them now at Luckyscent as well.
Thai Honeysuckle is another favourite of mine as well. I also tried Japanese Peony, and it is a lovely scent.
I just wish the candles were packaged differently! As it is, I have to conceal mine when I am not burning them.
I would have to agree on the presentation. But I find the fragrance fantastic and the lift for the base one of the best I have tried to date!
Yes, the scent is so wonderful I am willing to suffer the candle's mediocre appearance.
I hate when the opening is too small too, makes me feel like I need watchmaker tools to get at the wick. (This is one of the reasons I like the Primal Elements color bowls – perfect shape for me.)
Galimard makes a jasmine candle, and now I'm thinking I finally need to get around to trying theirs. (I love the jasmine they use in the perfumes of theirs that I've tried.) Of course, it doesn't appear you get dried flowers with theirs ;), and the presentation looks quite plain.
I need to finally try the Primal Elements!
Thank you for mentioning Galimard's candle. More jasmine candles is what I need, being in love as much as I am with the flower.
I've had some practical problems with Red Flower candles, too: they refuse to harden again after being used, and they lots of soot inside their glass holders. However, they're also the most gorgeously, strongly scented candles I've ever used, so I keep going back for more! Spanish Gardenia and African Lily are my favorites.
I also love Spanish Gardenia and African Lily. I also understand that there is a new one now–Icelandic MoonFlower. The soot that gathers inside the glass is just such a bother!
