Jacques Garcia's home fragrance is a rainfall of orange blossom petals delicately underscored by a smoky vanilla note. A honeyed breeze embraces gentle floral accords, accentuating their sweetness and radiance. A melody of orange blossom usually fades rather quickly, however in this case, smooth resinous cedar grounds the ethereal opulence of the flowers.
Although using the fragrance as a room spray would transform any confined space into a celestial garden, it would be unfair to reserve it exclusively for this purpose. In fact, I have been using it solely as a personal fragrance upon discovering that it is a wonderful rendition of orange blossom, with a remarkable tenacity. On the skin, a balsamic breath of frankincense lends a beautiful counterpoint that is less noticeable when sprayed in the air. Like a dark transparent veil, frankincense smoothes the sweetness and soapiness that are common attributes of orange blossom notes, transforming the drydown into a complex arrangement of flowers subtly permeated by sweet incense smoke. In comparison to my other favourite orange blossom fragrances, it is sweeter than Czech & Speake Neroli and more complex than Parfums de Nicolaï Cologne Sologne.
Jacques Garcia is the interior designer responsible for the décor of places like Hotel Costes in Paris, La Mamounia in Marrackech, and Jean-Georges in New York. While the signature scent is wonderful, the presentation in a dark glass bottle with a tassel adds a special touch.
A 100 ml bottle is available from aedes for $70.
I forgot to try that one. Was too exhausted by the time we got to Tak. How would you compare it to the l'Artisan orange blossom?
L, it is very much like L'Artisan at first, however frankincense and vanilla add more depth to it. I would not say that it is sweeter, but it has more body.
Oops. it was at Aedes, wasn't it?
Yes, it was Aedes. I think that it is the only place carrying it at the moment.
Love staying at Hotel Costes, eating at Jean-Georges (no I'm not really rich, I've only been to each of those places once!) and all things orange blossom.
Don't love incense or frankincense, or that hilariously garish bottle!
Now more determined than ever to try L'Artisan FdO…
The bottle is actually very pretty when you see it in person. It has an Art Deco feel to it. If you like orange blossom, you should try Jacques Garcia, because frankincense is not very evident, but it lends a complexity to the finished result.
Hmmm..will definitely get a sample next time I'm at Aedes!
I can see what you're saying, how the frankinsense adds complexity and keeps it from being a one-note Demeter-type scent.
