A quick reminder: the splitmeet and the spring reading poll are coming up next weekend.
Meanwhile, our same old open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the perfume you bought with your tax refund (or aren't buying because you owed money), whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Today I’m in SL Chypre Rouge for that intriguing touch of weirdness. It was my first Lutens, almost twenty years ago, and I still love it madly.
I smelled two fragrances in the shop in the cruise ship and was disappointed by both. I hadn’t smelled Herrera for Men in years, possibly decades: I didn’t even know they were still making it, so I was amazed to see it on the shelf. It seemed more or less as it once had, lighter but with the same basic structure — I considered buying it! — but then it faded to almost nothing in a matter of minutes, both on my skin and on the blotter. I also tried Chanel Coco, for the first time in a very long time, and was saddened but unsurprised to find that it bore no resemblance to the extraordinary original.
But today at a Superdrug I sampled a new Axe/Lynx scent, Marshmallow Smoke, and I would have bought it if they’d had anything besides the tester. Surprisingly nice.
Hope a bottle of Marshmallow Smoke will find its way into your collection…just the name is wonderful 🙂
I’m sad to hear about Coco. I have a couple of vintage bottles, so I’ll cherish them.
Marshmallow and smoke, what an unusual combo! I’d love to give that one a sniff.
Hi, yes it is VERY true: vintage and today’s Coco are so different. I kind of like modern Coco – I said “kind of like” – because it’s still Chanel BUT I LOVE vintage Coco. No comparison. Vintage Coco is on some other level. Every vintage Coco in my possession (parfum or Eau de Parfum – I have several of each, I collect them) smells perfectly intact and amazing. Vintage Coco is a total compliment magnet.
I might have to keep an eye out for that Marshmallow Smoke. I’m intrigued by the combination.
In Chanel 1932 EdT.
A day of errands, hair cut and a family dinner to celebrate my nephew’s birthday, which was last month. We couldn’t meet before because he and his girlfriend were very busy, so finally we can get together tonight.
After a hot and very humid week the temperatures finally went down last night and we are back to gorgeous sunny and upper 60 degree temperatures. Very enjoyable!
Happy weekend! 🌞
You smell wonderful!
Thank you, Allo!
Enjoy the family dinner for the birthday boy!
Thank you, Apsara!
Enjoy your weekend pl67!
Thank you, Lillyjo!
Enjoy the special dinner! I’m with you on the weather. Only in the 50’s today with blue sky and 🌞- I’ll take it. I don’t want humid temps in the 80’s in April!
Thank you, Laila!
It was horribly humid here, so I definitely prefer the cooler temperatures we are having now.
I love you SOTD- when it lasts on me
It has a decent longevity on my skin. I usually spray some on my clothes to make it last longer.
Enjoy the birthday dinner… and the cooler weather.
Thank you, Aurora!
Happy weekend to you pl67😉♥️
Thank you, Kris!
Absolutely gorgeous – 1932. Yay to haircut
☺️
Hurray for the haircut! I hope you get to enjoy a nice stretch of lovely weather and not just the odd day here and there.
Re-posting my very late Friday post. I’ve been wearing a lot of Calèche this week but I admit to getting side tracked by Musc Ravageur. With so much talk of the Shalimar flanker, I’ve been drawn to this Shalimar adjacent beauty.
We’re hosting my in-laws this weekend and having a great time catching up and looking forward to a long walk today, capped off by dinner at one of our favorite nice restaurants.
You should have seen the looks on their faces when I showed them the Perfume Fort. “How do you wear all of this?” “How do you choose what to wear in the morning?” “Doesn’t it go bad?” “Do you have Joy, that’s what my mom wore?” “Why yes, I do.” Magical sniffing moment ensued. And that’s vintage Joy for you💕
What a fun thing that everyone got excited by your perfume fort, seemed interested rather than critical, and that you had the magical one they longed to smell again! Joy indeed!
They were definitely curious and supportive, taking photos of me with the collection and asking me how many bottles I have. They also sent the photos to friends of theirs, some of whom have an aversion to fragrance and announced that they would have to stay far away from my home. I wasn’t hurt in the least😊
That is fun, even the warning to friends!
That’s a pretty cool perfume fort story!
It’s always a joy to share the fort, especially when fragrances bring back those indelible olfactory memories💕
Loved your perfume fort story; you are braver than I would be! Enjoy your lovely weekend.
They are very loving and supportive people so I knew that even if they were thinking “How in the hell can one person own all this perfume?”, they would see the great joy it brings me.
Joy is such a grand perfume and how wonderful that you pulled it out of the collection for instant to evoke someone’s mother.
And there’s nothing like the vintage version to really hit home🥰
Joy is a good one!
One of the best!
Awesome story about The Perfume Fort! Turns out it held more than one kind of treasure…
So true😊
Happy weekend!
Sotd is Louboutin Oud Fetiche.
Yesterday’s been the 6th? time I tested Dior’s Bois d’Argent Esprit de Parfum. Sad to report I am still disappointed despite enjoying it. It smells very good but the staying power is beyond horrible, 30mins in you’ll get a faint skin scent that you need to sniff like your life depended on it to detect something.
I also went into Hermes to spray on Musc Pallida. That also was good but faint. So I “saved” a lot of pennies!
The Mummy movie report if anyone wants to know. It was not scary thank goodness. But it was filled with cringy body horror and blood and gore that at times bordered on ridiculous. If you enjoyed Dead Evil Rise (same director) then you’ll like this because it’s the same formula just different themes. 6.5/10. Better than Tom Cruise’s Mummy though, that one was pretty bad.
So what will you spend those saved pennies on 😉
Currently kinda tempted by Dior’s new Cuir Saddle. Nothing stunning but is a good easy-reach soft suede.
Which is good to have 🙂
I don’t think anyone will beat the 1999 version of “The Mummy” with Brendan Fraser.
I love the picture today and it goes with what I am wearing. I went to BBW yesterday to replenish a few things and ended up buying the Covered in Roses body wash and lotion. I used these today and topped it off with Rose Magnetic by Essential Parfums.
You smell great Kris!
Thank you!
Covered in Roses is very nice, I like it in the summer.
It is nice.
A rose by any other name like Kris would smell as sweet! 🌹
You are so sweet!
Keeping it 💯🤗
I’m rounding out Hermes week in Osmanthe Yunnan, and enjoying it very much. But later on I’ll be conducting a wrist-to-wrist comparison of Lost Alice and Iris Prima. Due to the evocative description of Lost Alice by SOMEONE here last week (not to mention my own lack of self-control where iris is involved), I blind-bought it and like it very much. But now I have to compare it directly with Iris Prima, with which it shares a lot of notes. Lost Alice seems fresher somehow, but I want to try to discern exactly where it diverges from Iris Prima.
Glad you like your blind buy SheriG!
Hello, perfume people! It’s been too long, and I let life get on the way of fragrance chats. I’ve missed y’all! ❤️
I’m in Diptyque Ilio today, as I was yesterday. I ordered a batch of samples last month and have been working my way through them. Last summer I got tired of my citrusy things, so I’m trying some new to my nose options. Really liking Ilio!
waving hello!
Hi ltsg! Hugs to you and your family!
Hello! nice to see your name pop up!
It’s good to see all the familiar names again!
So nice to see you!
I had the Ilio hair mist once and really enjoyed it.
Oopsie, I commented below. Sorry!
👋 Good to see you here!
Good to see you too, pl67! I hope you have a lovely dinner. ❤️
Thank you, Nancyleandros!
Hi Nancyleandros, so wonderful to see you!😊
It’s good to be back, allo! 🤗
Welcome back! And please stay!
Thanks, Laila, I intend to stick around! 👍🏻
Welcome back! We are House twins!
Thanks, hajusuuri! I’m in Eau Capitale today, so we are weekend house twins. 🤗
I love it when someone pops up and comments after being away for a while😀💛
Aww, you’re very kind, Aurora. 🤗
Nice to see you😊
Hi Kris!
Hey, friend, I’ve missed you! We need to get together sometime! Eric is working at a new shop now, we must go visit him there together!
I’ve missed you too! We absolutely need to get together! Maybe this week while the weather is still reasonable. Will be great to catch up with Eric too. I’ll text ya. 👍🏻
Hiya! Long time, no see. I hope that things have been going well for you.
Hi lillyjo! Yeah, I think I’ll be getting some iteration of Ilio at some point. 🤗
Day three post shingles vaccine and I am so much better!
My arm is really sore and swollen but all else good. Good enough to toss in some laundry and wear fragrance.
JM Yuzu Zest. I bought a travel size at the Sephora sale last week when I was having lunch with friends, and it’s a lovely fresh spring/summer.
It will layer really well with JM Grapefruit and I will pack it for meeting my sister in Santa Fe since she does not like fragrances and this one is easy.
Have a good Saturday, all!
Glad to hear you are feeling better!
Thank you, lillyjo!
That sounds nice. I haven’t tried that one by JM. Glad you are feeling better!
It has some lasting power, Kris. I could still smell it late last evening.
I’m very glad you’re better!

Sorry about your arm
It’s much better.
Glad you’re feeling better. I bet you know this already but did you know this vaccine has anti dementia properties? My good friend’s mother had dementia and she’s anxious to try everything that might prevent this. So even more health points in your favour for taking your medicine. Hope you feel 100 percent by tomorrow:)
Pleased to hear you are feeling well enough for perfume now!
We were fortunate to escape last night’s nasty weather (and most of my beloved viburnum blossoms hung on!) but others weren’t so fortunate. A town in the far nw corner of Illinois near our favorite campground was decimated by a tornado. Interestingly, our campground in the nearby state park is situated on land once occupied in the stagecoach days by a town which was washed away in a flood!
Celebrating every blooming thing today by wearing a floral fragrance as my SOTD, Tru Blooms Chicago. It combines elegant sheer rose, traditional soothing lavender, white lily, and sensuous violet; all of these flowers and plants were grown in Chicago gardens. The sparkling watery fruit accords at the top are said to reminisce a walk along the shores of Lake Michigan and the drydown of sensual woods and musk speak to Chicago’s nightlife and blues heritage. I like the scent very much, not the least of which is it nicely represents my favorite city ❤️!
Happy weekend to all!🌹
Glad your viburnum blossoms hung on, Laila…
It’s warm and sunny here, 75F, and I am embracing the warm weather with Memo Tamarindo. I got this in an airport duty free, I can’t remember exactly where, maybe Heathrow. It’s a cheerful fruity thing that suits the day.
Lovely day here too, and we’re expecting temps to drop soon so I did get out and enjoy it.
I’ve been in the No Phone Zone for a couple of days, and what a nice break! I wasn’t even sure if the world was still turning until 3pm today when I arrived back to the Phone Zone!
All that aside, I finally did thunk my Shalimar l’Essence. It’s was a beaut, and I enjoyed it while it lasted. But on to other things. Today I’m back in Devotion after a long travel day (long for me, probably not for most) and it was just the thing to huff as I white knuckled my way up a pass in western Colorado. Thankfully the stars aligned and although the weather was threatening, it never did deliver. Quite a bit of snow up there still and I saw a herd of very thickly furred deer munching away as well as a Bald Eagle being harassed by a couple of crows. Mr Eagle was unflappable. See what I did there? 😉
I was camped in a gorgeous spot along the Colorado River which also happened to be a putting in a point for a ton of rafting companies so here’s a peek of them row, row, rowing their boat. I think they’re having fun. 😀

I did a bunch of whitewater rafting trips when I was younger. So much fun! Thanks for the memories.
You smell excellent, Devotion has been the only perfume in the last couple of years which put a spell on me when I smelled it for the first time.
Nice thunk, Deva! Glad you made it safely through the mountain pass. Crows and eagles must have been quite entertaining to see; enjoy your new location.
So, you went through an entire bottle of L’Essence? Wow! That was quick.
Are you on your way to a new assignment or just vacationing right now?
Congratulations on the THUNK! Well done!
I did a bit of whitewater rafting in southern Colorado before I got married. Ended up going thru the Royal Gorge. That was quite the adventure!
SOTD = Diptyque 34 Boulevard Saint Germain EDT
Beautiful and it seems longer lasting although I really could not swear to it. I am pretty sure I have the EDP as well … now to find it!
In other news, there’s an article in The New York Times about certain vaccines / medication that could in fact address some of the issues of dementia. Interesting, IMHO. We need all the help we can get!
https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/17/well/mind/medications-dementia-risk-decrease.html?unlocked_article_code=1.b1A.aOY-.6gYfHCt0cZZV&smid=nytcore-ios-share
And the shingles especially, hope apsara will see this!
oh yes, Robin.
Since my dad had Lewy Body, my sister and I sign up for studies and tests and do our best.
I volunteer for the Alzheimer’s Association in my state since my mother and grandmother had Alzheimer’s. The Association has clinical trials that you can sign up for through Trialmatch if you are interested. Maybe that is where you are going through now.
Thanks for that article, very interesting.
Thanks for the article link. Very cool info!
Happy Saturday!
Sotd new FB of MM Jazz Club. I’ve been procrastinating wearing this because I thought it would make too sad since I so enjoyed hearing live music especially jazz w Mr E. But the fragrance is multi-layered and immersive, masculine but in a way that makes we females crave masculine things for the way it evokes loved ones. I’m more wistful than sad. Perfumer Alienor Massenet.
I loved the sample which I was sent with a fragrance purchase and the FB doesn’t disappoint.
I bet you smell great, hope it will conjure only happy memories from now on.
Yes thank you Aurora! 🤗
It was still Hermes this morning with Elixir des Merveilles, always a bit taken aback at its terrific longevity, nevertheless I still dabbed some YR Cantate extrait this evening, I was rearranging the part of my collection which resides in a chest on the balcony and came across it. It cost me £11.05 for 30ml inin 2019, only 6 years and a bit while now with YR having quit the UK prices on the secondary markets have exploded. It’s a lovely red rose perfume not unlike AG Rose Absolue.
Elixir is so nice. I was going to wear that this week but wore a few other iterations of the Merveilles line.
It’s a treasure, I too have others from the collection.
Me, too, perhaps my favorite line.
👍
Bargains like that are harder to find now!
So true.
I bet you still are able to ferret out amazing perfume bargains.
Some bargains are still out there but it takes more time and effort to find them😀
I put my bottle of Chanel 1932 somewhere and cannot find where. It’s driving me crazy for the last couple of days. It’s caused me to clean and sweep most of the place, still haven’t found the bottle.
I want it, I miss it, I haven’t been able to look at my Chanel perfume collection the same way without this one being found.
Have been using Cuir de Russie the last couple of days and I’m absolutely amazing how much I love Cuir de Russie.
But right now I showered and I’m in a dab of Chanel #5 – with a long dabber, super super old. The fullest, roundest beautiful blast of aldehydes and everything is just so good about it.
When my Mom passed me some 4 feet away She complimented me on smelling good. My Mom does NOT like any perfume at all. I always “stink” to Her. But every time I wear Chanel #5 I get complimented by my Mom.
I misplace bottles all the time! Hope yours turns up soon .
My mum is the same! She used to wear very light scents but doesn’t anymore and everytime she sees me she says how I am “too perfumed” and “too cloying”. But mostly when I see her I hardly wear any scent (maybe just a spritz or two) because I know her!
I have a couple perfumes in my collection that are MIA. The only one that I can remember off the top of my head is Amouage Memoir woman. I will keep up the search for it.
I feel your pain. I can’t find my bottle of Eau de Protection and it’s making me nuts.
I’ve had a pleasant day pottering around the house. I’m leaving for Paris tomorrow, and I’m trying to distract myself from the feeling of nervous anticipation that I get with things like long distance travel or job interview.
The trip takes a day and a half, even with good connections, so it does take a bit of mental preparation. I’m going via Hong Kong, since my original plan to go via Abu Dhabi had to change.
I’m currently wearing Rivalité Impériale from Plume Impression. It’s has spicy and dried fruit notes, I really it, but I don’t wear it often. It’s insanely powerful, and I need to be in the right mood 🙂 .
Bonnes vacances Gaynor! Smooth sailing & safe travels!
Havee a good vacation
Have a great time! Wish I could climb in your bag and come along.
Have a wonderful and safe journey!
Bon voyage, Gaynor!
I know what you mean about long distance travel. I have to get in a certain zone with all of my systems in place – stealth mode.
I hope your journey goes off without a hitch and before you know it, you’re in Paris!
Oh, Paris! Enjoy! That’s a long travel time but I’m sure Paris is worth it. Hope you find some nice souvenirs!
Have a safe and fun trip!
You are probably en route by this time, but I hope you have a wonderful trip!
Sipping chai tea and reading a bit this morning.
Has anyone smelled the new Shalimar rose?
I started some seeds outside, and since the cold hit, I brought them inside—now lots of seedlings are sprouting. I did a mix of bought seeds and some from the seed library at the local branch.
We’re taking my in-laws out for their 50th wedding anniversary. beautiful milestone!!
I’ll wear 1957.
I will be smelling the new Shalimar rose on Tuesday as that is when it will be delivered to my house. I have heard there are similarities to Rose Cherie, which I love, so I hope this is true. I guess the Shalimar scent comes through but not as much as some of the others. I think the rose really shines in this one. We will find out.
I can’t wait to read your take on Millesime Rose!
I am not good at describing scents so don’t expect much😂
Wishing you very good luck with your seeds. It’s always so inspiring when the seedlings come up.
Not sure if you watch any YouTube, but I really enjoy watching Cranery. He has an amazing garden; I believe he’s in New Jersey. He grows many things from seed and sells his cut-flowers as beautiful bouquets.
Congrats to your in-laws for 50 years, have a wonderful dinner tonight!
Congratulations to your in-laws!
A 50th wedding anniversary?!? What a special milestone for them, and for you!
About to go through a couple tubs of perfume. I really want to find my bottle of Memoir. I wasn’t up for wearing perfume last night except before bed. So it was Cuir de Russie for last night. I haven’t worn CdR in forever. Since I am about to organize my perfume, I will hold off on showering and wearing perfume.
I did find my bottle of Memoir and my bottle of Zagorsk. They were in a box where I keep some candles. Naturally it was in a place where I wouldn’t think to look. So I am going to wear Memoir but I am going to shower first. Now if I can find my travel spray of the original Hedonist, that would be great.
Glad you found it!
Dawn, I’m so happy you found one of your ‘missings.’ Especially since it was a spendy Amouage. And yes, doesn’t it drive you crazy when you’ve put the missing bottle somewhere you’d never think to look? I have several MIA fragrances that I seem to recall putting in a ‘safe place’ for one reason or another, and now they are nowhere to be found. One day they will surface for air and I will catch them!
Pleased to hear that you found your wayward Amouage! I hope the Hedonist perfume shows up soon for you as well.
Still cool in the Midwest for one more day so went with Encens Mythique. It pairs well with Jergens Sandalwood Body Butter Lotion.
Twins!
Hi twin 👋
I’d like to see a week of cool, rainy weather out here. Sadly not happening.
Hot again here. We need moisture badly!
Inspired by discussions above, I looked for and found my old bottle of Coco. It’s by no means vintage but is perhaps 15 years old. Sadly, the top is not a tight fit and a lot of it has evaporated, leaving a somewhat sticky-gummy and very orange inch of juice in the bottom. Well, good news is, it still smells great–and wow it it potent! Not the kind of thing to wear to the opera!
Sorry you lost some though!
With the recent Shalimar discussion, I had to bring out my bottle of L’Essence today. Yesterday I was in Bronze Goddess.
I’m hoping to put out my lettuce today into the raised garden bed. I started my seeds about 6 weeks ago. The weather shouldn’t be below freezing at night any more (fingers crossed).
🤞Gail. We are having a frost/freeze warning here overnight.
The weather has been so ridiculous this winter and spring. I keep an eye on the central part of the country as I have family and friends there. They can have summer temps one day then have a blizzard the next. Mind boggling!
I think we are too 🙁
I have worn Allure Sensuelle this morning, and just as I finished applying AS – my bottle of 1932 turned up in my hand. I bent down to get some shoes from the place of where I keep them and felt a flacon in my hand. It was 1932 that somehow ended up on top of my shoes. The long dress hanging from above was blocking the bottle from the view of my eyes.
Loosing this 1932 for a few days has shone some special light for me in my perfume-loving-journey. I already stated yesterday that I couldn’t look at my Chanel collection the same way. I came to a certain spot where I do not WISH to continue purchasing pricey perfumes for a while right now because I have more than out bought everything already. There wasn’t any room in my will to jump the gun and repurchase 1932 even though I kept worrying it fell out of my purse that very last day I wore it.
At the same time the rest of the collection did not seem the same in my eyes anymore without my favorite perfume – 1932. Nothing else feels so “me” like 1932 and I wasn’t able to just enjoy the others in my collection, whole thinking of what I am going to miss if 1932 doesn’t come back to my collection.
I just put a tiny spritz on top of my wrist and it’s undeniably a jasmine fragrance, powdery, cool in tone and powdery. Cooler shade of a perfume with a warm tones of citrus. 1932 shines like a diamond and is very shimmery!! I’m so glad I found it:)
Since your my Chanel expert MJBC, what do you think of the lavender accord in JERSEY?
Oh a Chanel expert:) thank You!! I absolutely love the lavender in Jersey. It has a tiny vintage-y twist and is like a sweet lavender fluff. It’s the closest thing to another great one: Ecens et Lavande. Yes these two are my absolute favorite lavenders.
I’m so glad that you found your 1932 and are now complete and can enjoy your other scents as well. I’m currently missing 2 fragrances but, fortunately, they’re not my favorites. But I’m hoping that one day when I remove everything from the closet floor perhaps I’ll find them down there somewhere having fallen off the shelf.
Yay, another perfume found! Maybe the luck will wear off on me. I’ve been way too busy to mount a search but one of these days…
Yay, you found it!!
Happy Sunday!
Sotd right-side Encens Mythique, left-side Abel Laundry Day! Couldn’t decide so I split the difference. I did not layer them. Having my cake & eating it too.
Eat away LesLiesse!
🍰🍰🍰
I was going to do a comparison of Lost Alice and Iris Prima this morning, but a boxful o’ swap goodies landed in my mailbox yesterday and (as noted previously) I have no self-control. So I’m in Jardins de Bagatelle edt, from the tall vintage bottle with pleats, and it’s even better sprayed than dabbed … which is saying a lot. It’s somehow simultaneously old-school and modern, in the best way as to both. Yum.
Enjoy your goodies!
Hola! Today’s another day, but I’m still wearing the same clothes and the same perfume, amped up with 4 additional spritzes. I have to reiterate my thanks to both Aurora and Lillyjo because it was posts by them that turned me on to Devotion. I cannot lie, the name also got me. My travel spray has about 25% left and then I’ll have another thunk. ❤️
We’re in a different locale as we continue north. It’s chilly, but the sun is blasting and I just filled both propane tanks to keep us warm tonight since I think it might go down in the 20’s. Just finished a smashing Chicken Caesar Salad which negates the two (yes, T.W.O..!) ice cream cones I had as a snack. Isn’t that how it works..? 🙃 As soon as I digest a bit, my mija and I are going for a walkabout.
Enjoy your Sunday!
I’m not sure what turned me on to Devotion but it’s one of the rare fragrance purchases I’ve made recently, and I really like it, too. I also like its name and the pretty bottle as well. Enjoy your travels and thank you for taking us along with you and T-Rex!
Oh, thank you Deva, it hadn’t registered with me that our ravings inspired you to get a travel spray, so glad you have no regrets based on your almost empty t.s..
You smell great Deva! I’ve recently spotted Devotion at Marshalls if you’re looking to replace it.
Two ice cream cones is the way to go Deva.
A cool day with temps barely reaching 50 degrees, yesterday, today and tomorrow. Currently bright and 🌞, my crabapple tree is in full bloom, its soft pink blooms complementing the paler pink blossoms just a short distance away, still hanging on to my beloved viburnum. They remind me of the beautiful cherry blossom trees that recently bloomed. So I’m thinking pink today and enjoying L’Occitane Fleurs de Cerisier, a cherry blossom scent that honors pink blossoms everywhere. Soft and pretty.🌸🩷
We went to brunch today with a friend we hadn’t seen in awhile that was a fundraiser for one of my favorite community organizations, and that feels good. Finally relaxing the rest of the day, listening to the ballgame now.⚾️
Happy weekend ahead!
Looks like the Sox are winning! 🏆
Yes, they won! They had to make up for last night’s game – They were winning 5-0 in the second inning, slowly gave up the lead to a tie, then loaded the bases 3x with no outs and couldn’t score a run, and lost the game.
It’s a working weekend for me. My son and I are working opposite shifts so I have to go back out late tonight and pick him up. Tomorrow he will be continuing the better job search.
Yesterday I wore Shalimar Millesime Jasmin and today I am wearing Allure edp.
It’s going to get in the 20’s tonight. I don’t even care. I need this break from the severe weather warnings.
I’m with you. I’ll take the colder weather any day if we can skip those scary severe forecasts. Had enough of those already to last me all summer (as well as heat and humidity!).
Tell your son to hang in there with his job search and not get discouraged. It’s taking people longer to find things these days.
I’m in Diptyque Eau Capitale today. Trying to test the rest of my winter weather decants before it gets beastly hot here.
I like it, but want to compare it to Tempo, which is more patchouli forward…I think.
Tempo was all patchouli on me. I never tried Eau Capitale.
There’s a lot of rose in Eau Capitale, which I like. And it’s not a jammy rose, either.
Speaking of patchouli, I’m just now seeing that Tauer has released a new fragrance, Patch Absolue. As a patch lover, I’m tempted to get it for the upcoming splitmeet to share with fellow patch lovers💕
That’s a great idea! 👍🏻
👏
Ooh, I’d probably like a splash of that one
Diptyque Tempo is very patch-forward to me. Firmly in the shared or unisex category too.
Thanks for the info, Jalapeno. 🤗
I really, really want to buy Varanasi so I went to Ode to Perfume yesterday after work and got there 30 min before it closed. They asked if I was there for the fragrance swap (I wasn’t since I didn’t know about it) and they were sold out of Varanasi so I quick sniffed a few things, though I actually have an hour appointment on Thursday to be a little more leisurely. Everybody at the swap would at least get a bag with a discovery set of samples (I guess whatever companies send them to try and entice them into carrying their lines). They told me to grab a bag anyway so I took a bag and it ended up containing 19(!) samples from a brand called Punk and Dandy. What a haul for a sampling junkie like me. Haven’t sprayed any of them yet, so I hope I like their style…
That sounds really fun! We will be eagerly awaiting what you find or buy on Thursday at your appointment.
Happy Monday! I do not have anything by Jean Paul Gaultier (maybe I’ll get a sample by Friday, maybe not), so I’ve decided to use the same approach I took for the Donatella challenge: find a picture of a design by JPG and try to match it with a fragrance.
Today’s JPG design: a wheat and straw corset made using real plants. https://fashionblogga.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/20160113_130551.jpg
My fragrant match: Dr. Vranjes Firenze Meriggiare. This is a predominantly linden-blossom scent, but it also has a wheat bran note, and the brand itself describes the scent’s inspiration this way:
“In a forgotten field of golden wheat, the trees’ leaves sing with the wind. Fingers brush past stalks of gilded grain, leading the way to a place of refuge from the Tuscan sun.”
I also have a suggestion for the picture challenge. How about The Wedding at Cana by Paolo Veronese? Lots of details there, so it coud be an interesting exercise in fragrance matching.
That corset is way cool, I had never seen it before, and of course it’s a perfect way to do the CP…I have not got much JPG myself and what I have, I mostly don’t love. Wish I had a bottle of Fleur du Mal, I would wear it all week.
And thanks for the picture challenge idea! I think I have the May theme set but will add it to my list.
Hello NST!
SOTD is Vintage Chanel No. 19 that is pale yellow green from a splash bottle that has lost some of its topnotes but is still recognizably No. 19. Still trying to figure out what, exactly, is off about it. It hasn’t turned, but it has several wobbles.
April is a very busy month at our house, with both our boys having birthdays, plus a nephew, plus the Easter holidays. Yesterday we hosted an outdoor bbq for 14 and the weather was glorious. (Tomorrow there is rain). And I finally nailed a homemade version of the Whole Foods orange lentil salad with red pepper, cilantro, black beans, scallions, & corn. Before I was always overcooking or undercooking the lentils, which unlike the other varieties, cook very fast and can get mushy quickly, which makes them perfect for dal and soup but for salad they have to retain some crunch.
Somehow I never got into Gaultier. I owned the Classique for awhile but his fragrances turn too sweet on my skin. But I do have a smidge of Schiaparelli Shocking in the *original* torso bottle that JPG took his inspiration from, so I might wear that. Its honeyed accord, animalics, and heavy vintage vibe can be a bit much for me, but I’m looking forward to wearing it on Friday. The rest of the week I may have to default to perfumes that remind me of Gaultier fashion.
Like allo, I revisited Malle’s Musc Ravageur recently via samples from a generous NSTer and realized that yes, actually, I do need a full bottle. Pity I didn’t buy it when it first came out and prices were much lower (though at the time they seemed exorbitant).
Your version of the orange lentil salad sounds delicious! Happy birthday to your family members! And, like you, I will be mostly defaulting on the Gaultier perfumes unless I’m inspired by others’ posts.
Happy birthday to everyone, and glad you had good weather for your BBQ, and I have never had that salad home made or otherwise, will have to see if my WF has it.
Monday, and I couldn’t let last week’s CP go by without wearing Bel Ami. But last night I tried something from the swap haul, Sisley Eau du Soir. First reaction? Wow. Dry as a bone in the desert, and gorgeous. Angela’s take on it in her “Three Fierce Green Chypres” write-up years ago really nails it. I’ve never understood classifying a perfume as “only for evening wear” until this one. It needs accessorizing with a slinky silk dressing gown, a cigarette holder, and dark red nail polish.
SheriG, I really love the Sisley fragrances. I have the Orient one, and I agree with everything you said about Eau de Soir. My mom loved it and she was so elegant. You smell great and anyone will be lucky to be around you today:)
Thanks carole! It really is something special.
I want to try your SOTD
Oooooh, Eau de Soir sounds like something special.
It really is. I gather it’s still made but is most likely a pale ghost of its former glory, and vintage is definitely worth hunting down.
Your post reminded me that I tried Eau du Soir at duty-free last summer and was impressed.
Started the day with a bit of bird-watching from the hot tub on the last of our beautiful cool 🌞 mornings. We’re eagerly awaiting the migrators and, thus far, have only seen both a golden-crowned and a ruby-crowned kinglet last week and a white-throated sparrow today.
Wild violets are blooming in my yard, so my hand reached for DSquared She Wood as my SOTD, a nice woody violet, more unisex than female despite its name. I’m quite sure I got this one a few years ago with my Walgreens points so it’s a freebie that’s perfect for a cool Spring and sunny day.
I have no JP Gaultier scents and, other than his apparent obsession with torsos, am unaware of what his ‘aesthetic’ might be, so I’ll be looking forward to learning how other NST’ers are interpreting this week’s cp.
Wishing all a great week ahead!🐧🐤🐦
An ibis was spotted wading in a pond in the Denver metro area last week. Something rather unusual for out here.
I haven’t figured out how to interpret the cp yet.
Short travel day, still headed north, still in Devotion. 🙂
Meandering up 191 I saw the cute heart shaped white rumps of a couple of pronghorns as they bounced through the blue green sagebrush. ❤️
Otherwise, very windy, and when I’m at high elevations on the outside lane without a shoulder or a suggestion of a safety rail, just a few inches too far to the right could lead to a very bad day. But, we made it! Will be sitting still for a couple of days. We, both doggo and I, have appointments in town over the day or two. Weather is supposed to be ominous mid to end of week, so that may impact our travel.
Happy Monday! Hope people are enjoying better weather than we are.
Stay safe. Deva. Our recent weather was scary enough here in flatland; I can’t imagine what it would be like over there. Hopefully, it won’t materialize.🤞
No wind on the eastern side of Colorado yet. It’s coming tomorrow. 😞😖
I don’t know how you make those scary drives, Deva.
Stay safe!
Sampling Get Phloxed from the Punk and Dandy samples I was gifted this weekend. It is a very nice gardenia on me but I already have Velvet Gardenia and Le Wild and Gardenia Batik to fill my gardenia urges
Great perfume name though. 😆
Yes!
