Thursday scent of the day 2/5

Posted by Robin on 5 February 2026 93 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday and happy World Nutella Day! Birthdays: William S. Burroughs, Hank Aaron. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm taking points today in Eau d’Italie Baume du Doge.

Reminder: 2/6 is the opening day of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. Do absolutely whatever you like with the theme: scent a winter sport? Wear something Italian to celebrate the location? Wear something to support your country's team? Or, pick a fragrance to honor your utter lack of interest in sports, or winter, or both. (Suggested by LesLiesse.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello.
Sotd is Nicolaï Poudre de Musc Intense.
I wonder if athelets are allowed to wear perfume when competing, in moderation of course.

Today’s perfume is Organza – and I swear the bottle looks like one of the priestesses from the Olympic Games opening ceremony: a sculpted, column-like silhouette.

Oh, and I just noticed that the swirls on Organza’s cap are quite similar to the swirls on the top part of the dresses:
      https://en.people.cn/mediafile/pic/BIG/20251125/21/8629467277222609241.png

Both designs were clearly inspired by Greek columns.

I’m in Antonio Alessandria Gattopardo for the CP today. Double Italy points for an Italian house and a scent named after an Italian movie? And…I didn’t realize this when I put it on, but it’s World Nutella Day and this scent has a Nutella / hazelnut note! I don’t like Nutella itself, but the smell is nice. This one may be FB-worthy, for me or for Mr. Ockeghem.

Zoo Sadowski Synott is the only New Zealander to ever get a gold medal in the Winter Olympics (2022 Slope Snowboard) and she’s trying for another this year . The course is downhill with big humps ( like a BMX track) with lots of aerial tricks needed so I’m matching with CDG Airborne. She lives in a smallish town called Wanaka ( about an hour from Queenstown) which has a beautiful lake, and is close to a National Park…though given its summer here she won’t have been there recently.

I’m unable to watch any of the Olympics, but have fond memories of the Hamill Camel, Nadia Comăneci, Olga Korbut and so many others wowing us all. Can’t tell you how many nights I dreamed of being able to join the US Equestrian Team when I was a kid…🐎

I’m a bit too old for that one (Mary Lou Retton, Scott Hamilton, and Katharina Witt were more my era), but I do remember the brief nod to it on SCTV: https://youtu.be/q-2JsACs1pw?si=6xEeosST8DltmDJT.

I wanted to be a gymnast or an ice skater, but I’m a total klutz who can’t even do a straight somersault, so that was off the table. 🙂

That is so interesting. I have never ever seen the equestrian part of the Olympics, but I had forgotten that when I was younger I did used to watch the gymnastics, and sometimes the figure skating. It has been a long time since I’ve seen either though.

My new dishwasher arrived and it is so quiet I have to put my head near the door to hear it running. It gets a little louder when the water starts sloshing around, but not much. I’m very pleased. I’m wearing SL La Religieuse this morning.

I love mine, besides being quiet, it is the best dishwasher I have ever had and the first where you really do not have to rinse, just scrape.

I think the newer ones are all Wifi connected tho…check wirecutter, I think they did not like that, but I can’t remember why and I am not sure you can avoid it with appliances anymore. I am hoping to make my old one last forever.

It’s a public holiday here today, Waitangi Day. It’s a significant national day, but I’m just sitting on the couch glad to have a day off. Work continues to be crazy. Don’t get me wrong, I’m very grateful to have an interesting and rewarding job, but there is just far too much of it!
Perfume-wise, I’m thinking about Armani Privé Encens Satin. It’s a cool morning, but the forecast is for a sunny afternoon, so an amber-incensy perfume might cover all bases 🙂 .

I’m being a Prada copycat today since it’s an Italian brand. But instead of the infusions I went for something more heavy and ornate for the CP – the original Prada Ambre. The amber, patchouli, labdanum etc are perfectly cozy and warming after a day on the slopes and the rich brocade of resins reminds me of the ornate details on many of the ice-skaters’ outfits through the years.

Today is my parent’s wedding anniversary and even though my darling father has been gone a long time (Miss you!!!), we still celebrate and retell the funny and loving stories of the special day. Normally I’d wear Shalimar for this but since it’s my first CP, I want to go with the theme.

SoY- Alkemia Winter Sanctuary. Hygge galore and bit much for me.
    Sotd- Alkemia Winterling.

Winterling has a poem by the Harlem Renaissance poet Claude McKay on its landing page.

And suddenly, my thoughts then turned to you
Who came to me upon a winter’s night,
When snow-sprites round my attic window flew,
Your hair disheveled, eyes aglow with light.
My heart was like the weather when you came,
    The wanton winds were blowing loud and long;
But you, with joy and passion all aflame,
You danced and sang a lilting summer song.
I made room for you in my little bed,
Took covers from the closet fresh and warm,
A downful pillow for your scented head,
And lay down with you resting in my arm.

    – Claude McKay 1912

SOTD = 4160 Tuesdays Fount of Wisdom EDP

Nice! This is number 5 of 6. They have all been excellent (other than the initial thought on Number 3) and while sad, I am looking forward to the final one at some point. In thought I was with the CP; in deed not so.

Question about packaging and colors used. The other day I wore Valentino Voce Viva. Other than the name of it, the rest was in very light brown thin font and I could not read it! I don’t think it’s my eyes, with or without my glasses. So what do you think? Is it a “trend” these days or was it a miscue on the color or did it fade to almost nothing?

Cloudy with snow showers today but with temps hovering around 30! Our 20th day in a row with temps below freezing but despite the forecast for snow, freezing rain and sleet for later today into tomorrow morning, we are expected to reach above freezing temps tomorrow. Woohoo! We can only hope 🤞! SOTD is the comforting warmth of EL Sensuous Noir, probably my favorite in the Sensuous line. I love the 🌲 and guaiac notes.

Yesterday was a very busy day with errands, yoga at the library, and an early evening 🎶 with my favorite cellist Ian Maksin and his long-time buddy, the fantastic Romanian guitarist Gabriel Datcu. I wore the deliciously dark YR Rose Oud , which seemed appropriate for a concert entitled “Winter Blues.” But after enjoying a wonderful mix of jazz, rock and world music and seeing the interplay between them in perfect sync with each other, the effect was much more like “Winter Joys!”

Off to catch up on posts and wishing you moments of hope🤞and joy 🤩 in your day!

Stopping by late to waft Fendi Asja. My mini is not so great but an edp I have is still wonderful. It takes me to the Olympics, maybe; but I am in a cafe in the morning before the day’s events start. This cafe is baking spicy treats and serving them warm.

    sotd = Cologne du 68

It was time for a refresh and reset for my nose via Cd68. It’s always a pleasure. 🧡

Yesterday was Geisha Vanilla Hinoki, Tuesday was CdG Avignon.

An elderly family member has been in the hospital so I’ve missed posting and reading here for a few days. Hoping she’ll go home soon.

It’s always lovely to think fragrant thoughts with NST. 😊
