Friday scent of the day 5/30

Posted by Robin on 30 May 2025 172 Comments

Happy Friday and happy National Mint Julep Day! Today's birthdays: Countee Cullen, Benny Goodman, Colm Tóibín. Our community project for today is Rainbow Friday...wear something that makes you think of your favorite color. Bonus points if the color is in the name! Thanks to pyramus for the suggestion.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I'm in the OG Prada Infusion d'Iris, for purple.

Reminder: 6/6 will be Signature Friday...wear a fragrance that was your signature in the past, or that you could live with as a signature now, or that you'd like people to remember you by? From suggestions by madtowngirl and chocolatemarzipan8.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello and tgif!
My sotd is for gold at the end of the rainbow – J’adore l’Or. Claiming bonus point for the name!
Ordered my first paint by numbers. I ordered 3 for my mum last month and she just finished 1 and it was gorgeous, so colour me tempted (pun intended)! Mine is 3 kitty chefs cooking up mayhem in the kitchen. Cute animals, food and funny, what’s not to love?

If she picked a painting with lots of details/colours, tell her to have a magnifying glass handy because some numbered spots are the grain of rice with the numbers barely legible.

I just love how you made it the gold in the pot at the end of the rainbow! It made me think of that viral video of the man so excited about seeing a double rainbow! Now that would be a mind-blowing amount of gold!

I thought my favorite color was green, but looking around the house it appears my taste is broadening a bit these days —there are pockets of teal blue, coral and sunshine yellow here and there. Consequently, my choice for the CP is Au Delà Narcisse. It’s a chypre so green is covered, but it’s so vibrant that it feels multi-colored, almost like a kaleidoscope. It’s a very happy scent, for a lovely sunny Friday. 🥰

I hope you did find it to be a very happy scent for a lovely sunny Friday! Mom loves green – specifically spring green, the color of the Earth’s rebirth as she says (since we came from the East with lots of snow). I’ve grown to love it too! Your choice encompassing a kaleidoscope (perfect word) of colors in the chypre was quite creative !

I don’t have one favourite colour, I have a favourite half of the spectrum, the cool half — green through violet, with blue smack in the middle, and I guess if I had to pick one, it would be blue (but really blue-green, aquas and turquoises). The only scent I have with “blue” in the name is Bleu de Chanel, which I’m wearing today: it’s pretty much the definition of “mid”, but there are worse things to be inoffensively, averagely wafting through the air. Tomorrow I’m going to wear something with real presence as a form of penance.

Speaking of the cool half of the spectrum, some people wanted to see my latest quilt, so here it is, every shade of blue/green/purple I could rustle up. https://www.instagram.com/p/DKLZ7LFM1c5/

(P.S. happy888cat, did you see last night’s Taskmaster? UTTER havoc! The most deranged episode ever!)

    Happy Friday to all!

I’m in “Oud & Pink” from Cartier. The name is a little misleading – it’s more rose than oud, (the oud here isn’t especially barnyardy,) and I’d say it’s a deeper shade of red than pink. Beautiful, compelling, and just a wee bit strange.

Sun at last, and my roses are almost in bloom – it’s supposed to warm into the 70s this afternoon and that should open a few buds.
My favorite color is green and I’m wearing Chanel No 19 edt, claiming extra points because the juice is green even though green isn’t in the name. Enjoy your day NST 💚

My favourite colour is the absence of colour, I guess, and so I’m in Bulgari Black today. This could also stand for Mr. Ockeghem’s mood this morning, as he’s just finishing colonoscopy prep.

I actually love all colours, and all colours together, but I’ve worn mostly black since high school. Many shades of green, and International Klein Blue, are also favourites.

    Happy Friday!

My plan was to wear CdG Rouge today for the CP, but I’ve been under the weather the past few days and can’t smell much, so I’ll wear it in spirit.

Tea today is lemon, ginger, licorice herbal tea that. I only ever make it hot, usually because I’m sick, but it is so humid today that I’m tempted to try it as an iced tea.

I’m stealing yesterday’s idea of Etro Dianthus for carnation which also reads red on me, though there are also white carnations I think. And maybe pink? I really like a lot of the older Etro scents and used to put them in the same camp as Diptyque (simple niche scents that smelled very natural but also artful), but that brand has soared in recent years while Etro seems to be somewhat treading water. Dianthus doesn’t last that long on me though so will then switch to L’Heure Bleue, another recommendation from earlier this week. My bottle is the 93 ml refill bottle of vintage EdT that was meant for the beautiful gold lattice case, which alas I do not own. But the juice never disappoints.

My favorite color is pink (rose) so I used BBW Rose Shower Gel and Rose Lotion this morning and topped it off with Guerlain AA Rosa Rossa. I think I probably should get a gazillion points for three different forms of rose scent, plus it’s in the names and plus my Rosa Rossa is pink juice! Did I win? 😊

Jalapeno-Chanel no. 19 is nothing like Hiris. When I tried the Chanel it was way too green on me and I couldn’t wear it. Let me know if you would like me to send you some of my Iris scents. You may find one you like.

My favorite color is green and my SOTD is the very green Premier Figuier Extreme from L’Artisan. My bottle must be at least 20 years old and is still about half full. It’s the old kind of bottle, the big one with the fancy cap. I know many people prefer Phylosykos as the more figgy and greener scent, but I love the coconut-creamy aspects of this fragrance. I’m off later this afternoon to get a fresh haircut and also on the sad errand of picking up the memorial items for my beloved cat who crossed the Rainbow Bridge two weekends ago. I don’t usually go in for this kind of thing but he was so special and so much loved.

My mother went through an orange phase in the 70s: orange carpets, orange walls and orange half-hemisphere plastic light shades. When she transitioned from orange to brown everything looked like jaffas ( orange coated chocolate balls). It doesn’t seem that orange has made the come-back that bright yellow has.

It was quite popular at the time, wasn’t it?
I have an orange chair, but generally prefer orange clothes to orange interior decoration.
It’s funny, because it’s kind of our national colour as well, and I remember wearing some orange during the Sochi wintergames.
I don’t think it’s the main reason why I have always liked it do much, it’s just so very uplifting.

So did my mom! Though the orange was mostly in the kids’s area of the house my parents built in 1971. The kitchen was a symphony of harvest gold and avocado green, lol. It was a very cool house, tbh. I wish I had photos of the interior but there are very few, mostly taken in the living room that was more traditional.

I remember reading a biography of Sinatra, whose favorite color was orange. He called it the happiest color. I recall seeing photos of his weekend pad in Palm Springs, I think it was. Multiple shades of orange throughout the house.

We have a grapefruit tree so at certain times of year I am giving away bags of grapefruit and juicing many many others in my old school 1970s Proctor Silex Juice-it which I have had repaired three different times I love it so much! But I do not love the grapefruit note that much in perfume so I am the opposite of you.

Happy Friday NST! I do love color, highly saturated tertiary colors in particular (blue-green, red-violet, yellow-orange) but my very favorite color is azure blue, like the Mediterranean Sea’s Côte d’Azure! That said EL Azurée has notes I’m allergic to, so the obvious pick won’t work for me.

Instead my CP is FM Iris Poudre. Iris was the flower of my sorority because it is one of the few flowers that cone in blue, and our colors were The Blue and The Blue (deep blue and powder blue). Powder Blue = Iris Poudre à gift from the fabulous Kris!

FYI: for my first mani-pedi in 10 wks early morning and the gal asked what I was wearing because I smelled sooo good. Iris Poudre FTW!

Someone wore Gris Clair earlier this week and it reminded me that I do really love a silvery grey color. I would pair Iris Silver Mist with it but can no longer find my decant. Instead I’m in Dusita Pelargos which comes across as a bracing blue green. It’s quite good for the hot day up ahead.

I had a huge project due today but it just got extended to early next week, I think I’ll aim to finish most of it today regardless. Will feel so nice to get it done.

    Have a wonderful Friday, all!

Today is the last day of school. My daughter missed the bus because I fell back asleep. I think she thought she was going to stay home but I drove her.
One of my favorite colors is burgundy. I can’t tell you how much effort I have put in looking for the perfect burgundy lipstick. I stopped looking about 5 years ago. I never did find it.
I’m matching my color with Hugo Deep Red. I think the scent actually matches the name, but I couldn’t tell you why.

Looks like we are finally going to get some summer weather this weekend. I’d love some blue skies to go with it, but we are getting some of the haze from the wildfires in Canada. The blue skies we had during my 7 am barre class are sadly gone.

Now when Mr Engineer wants to cheer me up (that’s pretty much 24/7!these days) he wears a pink shirt! Happy Friday and long time, no post! 🤗 Wearing 4160 Tuesdays Skin today which was part of the Tempest Rose crowdfund and the description is below. It’s a very nice, your-skin-but-better type fragrance.

On the work front, we got provisional status on our audit which is pretty miraculous and something to be celebrated given how little we had in place. We will need to be reaudited in the next year and have a lot to still demonstrate/maintain for the auditors but we are overall quite lucky. 💪🏻

On the personal front, going to the Big Island next month for vacation and I am soooo excited. 🏝🌋 Have not been to the BI before but have done lots of research the last couple months. Please let me know if you have any activities/places/food to recommend or avoid. 🌺

Skin – a sensual, musky, honeyed fragrance, that reveals more as you get close to it. We used an extract of honeybush and essential oil of everlasting flower for added intrigue.

For the CP: Bulgari Blv II epd. Blue is my most chosen color, especially in the teal/aqua range. I agree with the many reviews on Fragrantica that find Blv II a cousin of Lolita Lempicka. Added to the enjoyment of the scent is the bottle, which is very nice in person, being heavy and sculptural.

I love everyone’s colour choices and the variety of responses. I think, for me, my preferences change with the seasons so at the moment I am enjoying the moody greys and blacks of winter skies and bare trees. The colour I wear most often is denim blue ( jeans) . So, I will go with a muted, cool wintery palette with the windswept Melancholy Thistle. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is snow on the hills this morning ( dawn isn’t until 8.20 so I can’t see them yet). A good day for the movies, maybe the new Wes Anderson though they’re becoming a bit same-same.

I totally agree! My daughter and I were just taking about that a few days ago. I said I feel like he’s trying to be *too* Wes Anderson, if that makes sense. The newer movies seem less about the story and more about his film style, idk. We recently rewatched Tenenbaums, and there’s a real story and message there. I didn’t get that from Asteroid City, but again, maybe just me….🤷‍♀️

My favorite color for as long as I can remember is red, but as the seasons change I expand that to include what I think of as the whole spectrum of red, from the palest pink to the deepest burgundy.

My SOTD for today’s cp is the long d/c YR Pur Desir de Rose edt, a soft but spicy red rose, my favorite kind! It reminds me of my favorite rose I planted years ago and I don’t even remember its name, only that it is a deep red spicy rose that blooms only once during the season; its buds are now forming, so this is a perfect scent for today! 🌹And some of my roses have already started to bloom, albeit they’re the pink ones.

    Happy Friday to all!💐

Red really is a beauty isn’t it? and my vintage bottle is still fresh smelling, the bottle is tall and rectangular with a gold slim cap, you can also go by the short ingredients list to ensure a real vintage. I never appreciated the original Giorgio because it was everywhere in NY in the eighties.
