It’s Hump Day and World Kindness Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm taking community project points in Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Black Perfecto.
Reminder: on 11/15, wear a fragrance with tonka bean, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hello all!
I’m in Night by Akro today, my early favorite of the line. I know some people don’t enjoy cumin but on the whole it reminds me Muscs Kublai Khan. With maybe a dash of saffron custard in the base.
Wednesday is my long day and as always I stayed up way too late. I managed to get a very part time job at a cafe to let me breathe a bit easier financially. I start today and I’m not nervous per se, but I hope it goes well.
Have a great day everyone!
Hope all goes smoothly on your first day!
Thank you. It’s a fun place but should be pretty lax.
it will be fine!
Best of luck!
Thank you! 🩵
Good luck with your new job. I hope you enjoy it and you can settle in easily, without stress.
Good luck!
Good luck!
Good luck with the new job! Sounds like it could be fun, if not too tiring!
Best of luck!
Hope your first day goes well!
Sending good vibes for your new job!
Hope it went well, and that you’ll have some friendly co-workers!
Hope you had a good day!
Fingers crossed that today went well for you!
Good luck with the new job! And I love MKK, although I rarely wear it because it can become too much on me. But 99% of the time I adore cumin as a note.
Hello.
Sotd is MMM From The Garden again, because it smells so good and fished myself a compliment from a stranger yesterday!
Guys, after trying out almost the whole catalogue of shampoo and conditioner from Lush, I think I’ve found my winning combination!
It’s Rehab Salty + Candy Rain!
The salt shampoo cleanse really well and gives volume and the conditioner makes your hair so soft, shiny and smelling gorgeous!
I wouldn’t recommend using the shampoo solo because it is very squeaky clean and your hair will stick in a clump. If you are a shampoo only kinda gal/guy, try the limited Snow Fairy. It is really good. I prefer it over Fairly Traded Honey, which is supposed to be nourishing but I don’t find it so.
Info: My hair type is straight, coloured and leans dry. Scalp can become oily after a day or two. I shampoo every other day.
I should say “hair is straightened, originally wavy”, so with that and the colouring, there is slight damage.
Thank you, I do love my jasmine henna stuff but have not branched out past that.
Interesting. I didn’t love the Fair Trade Honey, either (my hair is superfine, naturally wavy, salt and pepper). I like the Candy Rain but WOW is it sweet. (Duh, look at the name! — I remind myself). Sounds like the salt one may be too harsh for me but I’ll have a look when the opportunity arises.
I’ve been using Klorane shampoo and conditioner for very fine hair, and find it all a bit drying, surprisingly.
I found a box of decants that I haven’t used in a while, so I chose Vilhelm Smoke Show, good for today’s cooler morning.
I think that is one I have not tried, but love the name!
That is a cool perfume name!
Taking points today with the only perfume I have that has tonka bean. Also, copying ringthing again. Coco Noir it is on this cold, rainy day. Not complaining as we need the moisture.
Perfect for a cold rainy day.
I love your SOTD:)
Thanks Carole.
Twins!
Had the chill but not the rain here.
I chose Dior Addict as Fragrantica has tonka listed as a note, and I haven’t worn it in ages. It smells wonderful so it begs the eternal perfumista question, why don’t I wear it more often? Spoiled for choice.
Found a couple of new LLBean sweaters at Goodwill yesterday but no hidden treasures, maybe next time. Thrift shopping is irresistible to me.
Such a fun scent.
I used to love thrifting but it feels like work to find something good now. I still go not not nearly as often. 🙁
I think eBay has had an effect as people often sell good stuff whereas before they may have donated. Also, the general quality of mainstream brand new clothes is pretty low now ( hopeless buttons, zips, seam allowances) that everything is a bit tatty once it makes it to thrift. That’s all taken some of the fun away for me, though I’m not usually looking for clothes now anyway, but objects, art, etc.
Objects and art are my favorite things to find, and jewelry. And I agree with both of you, it’s more work than it used to be.
Addict is my pick for Friday.
And you have the vintage, better yet!
Always worth getting a nice sweater or two this time of year.
Caleche at bedtime last night, and this morning the lovely Rebecca Minkoff EDP.
You smell yummy!
Thanks to you! 😘
Love Caleche! I should wear it soon.
It’s gorgeous, for sure. One of my top ten, if not five.
I’m CP compliant by accident today in vintage Blue Grass by Elizabeth Arden. Parfumo lists both tonka bean and tonkin musk in the base.
Perfect!
I’m in my new to me small bottle of Heaven Can Wait. This scent seems very different depending on how you choose to apply it-today I went with one spray and I I put my nose about an inch away from my wrists I can smell the beautiful peach and plum notes. If I apply it so the nozzle is closer to my skin as I spray it’s very ashes and cinders. I really like this and I’m glad to be able to finally smell some fruit. My guess about the supposed Caron source for this is Coup de Fouet. I still have a bottle of it, and I can smell the similarities.
That sounds lovely. I need to smell my sample again😊
I’m in Shalimar EdT today and wafting Tonka Bean. I’m so grateful for the cp and a chance to revisit my various Shalimars. I don’t have any of the limited editions but the original in its various iterations is enough for me.
allo,
I needed a shot of comfort one recent weekend, and I used shalimar parfum. Just a drop and it was perfect. You smell great!
So perfect!

Yesterday I bought a book published through Kew Gardens on the plants used in making perfume. It has beautiful botanical illustrations, and is divided into various headings like white floral, spices, resins, fruit, woody, oak moss ( a lichen not a moss ) . Three perfumes are listed at the bottom of each illustrated entry and under Vanilla they listed Jicky . I always thought of Jicky as more lavender and would have put Shalimar with vanilla…but, whatever. It’s lovely and I’m wearing it today.
The book looks lovely! I think of Jicky as Shalimar Jr, even though it came first, but agree, if asked to pick “the” Guerlain vanilla I’d go with Shalimar.
I’d agree with your classification of Jicky as more lavender than vanilla.
I’m kind of accidentally CP-compliant today, as I start to work my way through the Anatole Lebreton samples I’ve got. Today was Brioche, which is really more of a honey scent than a bread scent in the En Passant manner. That said, a lot of honey scents are too much for me, and this one is not. It’s honey-forward but not sweet in the top notes. The sandalwood and hay came out separately during the drydown. They’ve faded, and it’s now more a straight honey scent, but not cloying, just comforting. I’m debating whether I need a honey scent, but if I bought one, this would probably be it.
Oh, and tonka is in the notes.
I never would have picked up that one to try, but it sounds so nice.
I am wearing Shalimar PI L’Eau for the CP, although for me it is very much a powdery iris fragrance with some citrus and vanilla. Anyway, very pretty. I remember falling in love with it after spraying a little on my wrist in a store and then happily sniffing it all the way home.
That does make a nice image 🙂
I got switched to the day shift today (yay!) But there’s a district visit (boo!) I chose Coco Noir because Chanel always seems professional to me and it fits the cool gloomy weather.
You smell great and that’s an excellent choice for the *visit*!
Hi Twin! We smell fabulous!
Whoo hoo for Day Shift!
Another lovely photo in the header! I had a friend who grew up on a barrier island off of St Petersburg, Florida. He was born in ‘49, so not THAT old! Anyway, he remembers being a kid (no electricity, took a boat to the mainland for school- really, a proper wilderness back then) and flocks of birds were so numerous that when they took flight the sun was briefly blocked. Not anymore.
I’m sure there’s Tonka in many of my perfumes but I really just did not feel like researching the issue. So, the hand went to Vanilla Flash.
That sounds a proper wilderness!
no tonka bean in sight, so i wore Rochas Femme, which is a nice cold weather chypre for sure. i am going to Berlin tomorrow for a conference and will meet an old friend on friday for dinner. this will be fun
Enjoy yourself in Berlin tannina!
Our weather continues to be up and down. Yesterday was a lovely sunny day, today is dull with rain forecast. The general trend is towards better weather, but the trend is not obvious.
I’m wearing the always fabulous Amouage Beloved today. It includes every note on the planet except tonka 🙂 .
And yet it still smells great! I find it a very comforting scent to wear and so very beautiful, in spite of the lack of tonka.
Beloved is gorgeous.
It’s raining. Again. Still. Until spring, probably. But it’s snowing in the mountains and ski season opens Friday at Mt. Hood Meadows. I’m wearing La Danza della Libellule. No tonka here, but it has vanilla.
Love your SOTD
Send some rain our way
You can offload some of that rain over here, too!
You smell great! I’ll take some of that rain too
I’d gladly take either rain or snow if you could spare it!
Going with Tea for Two today, just cause.
I love that scent. I have the matching candle-great for this time of year 🙂
I’ve just spent some time on Fragrantica to figure out if I have any tonka bean in my collection, turns out I do.
However, I did not know that Musc Nomade apparently has some, I put it on as I want to finish the bodycream that I’ve had for a long time.
I had forgotten how good this is, and just how very lovely it is to wear.
Great picture again today, Robin!
Still a little bummed out that I missed getting a 50mL bottle of Musc Nomade when the getting was good.
🙂
I will save Shalimar Tonka flanker for Friday.
I am in POAL from a sample.
I can’t smell it but everyone is telling me I smell good.
Eating soup and watching Crazy Heart, a somewhat older movie with Jeff Bridges.
That is too bad you can’t POAL as it is beautiful. I am sure you smell wonderful!
Occasionally I get a whiff.
It is very glorious!
Obviously, I meant it is too bad you can’t smell POAL.
I’m in L’Ombre des Merveilles, which has only 3 notes listed on Fragrantica: tea, incense, and tonka. Which is fitting, perhaps, since I seem to be one of the three people who like this. 😄
Nothing wrong with liking what you like!
Aww, thanks for being in my corner, Jalapeno!
Plus I’m sure there are 10 of you 😉
Sorry, couldn’t resist, and of course you should like what you like.
We had a fun project ages ago where we wore something Luca Turin rated 1 star, or something like that.
😅 You’re too funny, Robin!
I think I remember that one, and it was a lot of fun.
As I believe Tania Sanchez writes at some point: “Sometimes, LT is wrong.”
For the CP: Coco Mademoiselle epd Intense. I got on the HypeTrain when this came out, but it remains one I enjoy. As with Coco Noir (which I slightly prefer) I dislike the crisp, citrus opening. The patchouli is, I guess, woody enough to keep the tonka from going too barbershop for me. Shalimar MT and Coco Noir tame the tonka with vanilla, maybe? I am trying to figure tonka out, but it, vetiver and saffron are usually red flags in a note list.
I don’t really enjoy prominent tonka and couldn’t figure out why. Your mention of barbershop makes me think that might be the reason.
So it seems that both Coco Mad Intense and Coco Noir are patchouli scents? Are there big differences between the 2?
SOTD is a sample of Imaginary Authors Slow Explosions (thanks to allo!) I get a supple brown leather and a crisp, sweet-tart apple. Together those notes feel very “autumn” to me. As though when combined they smell similar to newly fallen maple leaves.
I am finally home after two weeks of work travel and I am very happy to sleep in my bed, drink from my tea cup, and most of all snuggle with my kitties. It would be nice to see Mr. Vee too, but he has been away for work for more than a month, and he is really missing the kitties.
Tea today is Fortmason from Fortnum & Mason. I like the orange blossom aroma, but I’ve come to the realization that darjeeling is just not my jam.
You smell wonderfully autumny!🍁
That stinks that you both have to travel for work for so long. Enjoy being home!
I so rarely have to travel for work, and when I do it is never for more than 2 or 3 nights, so this just really felt like a long time away. It was a fluke that we both had to be away at the same time. The hotel on the last leg of the trip upgraded my room, which was a nice surprise. I’ve never gotten a free upgrade before!
I like Slow Explosions, it gets worn most in the fall.
Sleeping in your own bed is priceless.
I always love hearing about your teas, but too bad this flavor isn’t your “cup of tea”!
Welcome back! How are your kitties doing now that you are home?
They are fine. There about an hour of them pretending to be mad/not remember me but all was forgiven when I broke out the churu. The stray cat had a lot to say though. In fairness, his routine was the most interrupted, but dude had multiple ppl coming by to feed him each day, so he was in no danger of starving.😂
Isn’t it funny to miss your own tea cups??? But I do, whenever I’m away.
I’m in Candy Prada Nights today from the remainder of a decant. Just when I thought I had no fragrance with tonka, I discovered that I do now have a few options (after perusing Fragrantica). I might try to pick up a mini of this one.
We also have rain today (all day rain). Plus I think it’s hanging around all week. Not going to complain though, after the drought we had in the summer. I’ll take every drop.
I think I like Candy Night over the original.
I agree! It’s pretty fun.
A few years ago, I was shopping in a department store when a fragrance associate just handed me a mini of the original Candy; it was a decent size too. I was silly and gave it away to a friend.
Haven’t tried Candy Night yet. But maybe I should? 🤔
I think it’s worth trying. Not to enable though!
I’m finally getting a little settled after a couple weeks of chaos. We had two funerals (on my husband’s side of the family), lots of family in town, and I had a work trip in the midst of all this. I need to do nothing for awhile before things get busy again for the holidays!
PSA, looks like the Lush/Wicked stuff is up for pre-order on the website. I’m trying my best to resist that Glinda body spray. 🙈
SOTD is a sample of Love Delight. No tonka in it, but I’ve got lots so plenty to choose from for Friday!
My condolences on the passings of your family members.
I’m sorry for your family’s loss tulipani.
I’m sorry about your family’s losses. I hope the next few weeks are uneventful and restorative for you
Adding my condolences, tulipani. I’m sorry for your losses.
Adding more condolences, and do hope you have an entirely uneventful holiday season.
Running late today and interrupting my dinner to leave a brief comment. 😉
SOTD = CP compliant in Dior Poison Girl EdP. The EdT version does not contain tonka, but the EdP does. Either Kanuka or Gaynor gets the Enabler Pin for it.
Which do you prefer? It’s been awhile since I’ve tried the edp but I remember not liking it as much as the edt. Maybe it’s the tonka.
When I was in NJ, I liked the EdT better. But today, here in CO, the EdP smelled pretty darn good! I think the cooler, drier climate might have something to do with it. I have not tried the EdT out here, though.
Glad I kept my bottle of the EdP. I had considered swapping it away.
