Thursday scent of the day 11/2

Posted by Robin on 2 November 2023 112 Comments

Happy (Almost!-)Friday and happy National Stress Awareness Day! Birthdays: Daniel Boone, Marie Antoinette, Richard Serra, k.d. lang, Shah Rukh Khan. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm taking points in Kenzo Air.

Reminder: on 11/3, we're off to Japan (just in time for Culture Day). Wear a perfume that is named for a place in Japan, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to Japan, or that features a Japanese ingredient, or ?

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Oh, I *love* KenzoAir and wish I had stocked up on a couple bottles ten years ago or more when it was cheap as chips. I still have a tiny bit around somewhere.

I’m wearing Caron Farnesiana today. I picked up a bottle on an auction site a couple months back. Shame about the demise of Caron, even though it still exists and sells some scents that carry the old names. I’m suspicious of the quality or any relation to the originals.

Carole, it’s one of those polka dot bottles with the cap that looks sort of like a crown. I’m happy to have it.

SOTD is Shiseido Feminite du Bois. I went through most of my original bottle (back in the late 90s) in a couple of years, and when I went to replace it, I found it was no longer being sold. Fortunately, I was able to track it down online and snagged two BUBs, so I am in no danger of running out. If somebody forced me to select only 10 perfumes to wear for the rest of my life, this would have to be one of them.

I am very, very glad I DON’T have to select just 10 perfumes for the rest of my life! If I did, though, one of the requirements would have to be that the 10 I selected would remain available to me in sufficient quantity to last for the rest of my life. Otherwise, if I run out of one of them, and cannot get more, I get to select a different perfume to replace it.

I agree, this would be a fun CP if we haven’t done it already (or even if we have). Now I’m thinking about what my “top 10” would be.

“Hello Glannys! I want to play a game. You are in the room filled with all your perfumes. In 5 minutes, everything in the room will be destroyed. You can leave any time, but you can take only ten bottles of perfume. Choose wisely!”
Me: What about the decants? We usually count three decants as a full bottle at NST! And I can take as many samples as I like, right? And a flanker should not be considered a separate bottle, so I can take both Shalimar and Shalimar Parfum Initial L’Eau, and it should be counted as one bottle!
          …I guess I’ll just die

So odd to me that you couldn’t find FdB for a while, as I don’t think it ever went out of production, and certainly isn’t currently. Good that you have backups now though!

I don’t think Shiseido makes or sells it under their own brand anymore though? It is currently only available in the reformulated version under the Serge Lutens name. I had a sample of the SL version some years ago, and did a side by side comparison with my original bottle. The new version did not impress me. When I bought my bottle, it was from a Shiseido counter in a regular department store, probably either Dillard’s or Macy’s. When I went back a couple of years later, they were pushing Relaxing Fragrance and there was not a bottle of FdB anywhere in sight. My two BUBs are of the original Shiseido version. Really only one of them is a BUB now, as the other is currently being used.

Ah, ok. Yes, the Shiseido version is long gone. I think it was gone even before I ever tried the fragrance, though I did buy a Shiseido FdB parfum “stylo” many years ago.

SOTD is Rogue Champs Lunaires. This is a great tuberose and reminds me of Fracas. I also really like the Tuberose and Moss by this niche perfume house. They have several others I have not tried, but probably should. Pretty reasonably priced on Luckyscent.

Oh, you DO smell wonderful. That perfume is like a big buxom aunt who always arrives dressed to the nines and is the absolute favorite of all her nieces and nephews. She gives great hugs, special little gifts, speaks in double entendres that you don’t even understand because you’re only seven years old, but you know she’s the funnest (and funniest) person in the entire family. She winks as you as she’s talking to the other adults, letting you in on jokes that make you feel like you have the inside scoop, although you don’t what kind of scoop it is. Love that perfume so much.😍

    Hello all!

Totally failing the CP today in Pichola, which I thought I’d give another try. I found it for a great bargain and found it pretty but sedate and rather quiet. I wore it to bed this weekend and was really drawn to the driftwood accord in it, which makes it compellingly unusual.

I snoozed for about an hour since my morning class was cancelled. Unfortunately I still have a lab report to finish before my 12:30 class, but I only have one section left. I can’t explain why, but I always drag my heels on these.

    Have a great day everyone!

House twins with Robin in Kenzo Flower.
This is way out of my usual range, but I’ve been looking for a replacement for the original Sans un Mot from JOVOY. They reformulated it and did the common soul-ripping job. This just might be the ticket! It’s the same powdery-floral vibe, but not as rich or sexy. Yes, the original was sexy *and* powdery. If anyone has other suggestions, plmk!

    Stress-awareness … where do I start?

I am going to be working all day on Nov. 7. I know how to get there (I practiced 😂) but have not figured out where to eat or bring food. I am very out of practice so may need to do another reconnoitering run. I think I know where but eating ice cream is not lunch!

I must have missed it the first time I got the post card for jury duty. It’s a make-up for one I couldn’t do in May because it was the week of my vacation. So, I am thinking that I am being punished for not going the first time? It is one week or one trial. One week – who knew? The first day is virtual via Zoom so now I have to practice and make sure I comply with the rules. Oy!

Had a lunchtime dentist appointment today. I was hoping to see my regular dentist one last time before I left. However, she doesn’t work on Thursdays. Had I known that when my appointment was made 6 months ago, I would have changed it.

Anyhow, I will have to have some gum grafts in the near future. This was not a surprise to me; I have known about those spots for a while. And my regular dentist was keeping an eye on them. Yuck. I’ve had one already, a few years ago. Not looking forward to more.

I made a consultation appointment with the oral surgeon at my dentist’s office. He’s already booked well into December. We shall see if I can still make the appointment…

SOTD = commando, except for Korres Grecian Gardenia on my shins.

You poor thing with the gum issue. Hopefully the remedy will not be as painful as before.

        Thanks.

Healing from gum surgery takes a while. And you have food restrictions. Understandable, but not pleasant.

        Could be worse, though.

Maybe you can get on a waiting list? I’m sorry for the gum problems.

I won’t be able to have the surgery done in NJ. Pretty sure the surgery would be in January or February 2024. I need to be moved out before the end of December.

The consultation appointment would be for information purposes that I could relay to the new dentist.

I’ve had several gum grafts as well. No fun, but they heal quickly. On another topic, are you moving out to Colorado after selling your house and etc.? I noticed you said you would be heading out to my “old stomping grounds.” I hope to be visiting friends there soon.

Colorado is my intended destination, yes. Hoping that I won’t be neck deep in snow when I move. 🥶

Ugh. I read about gum graft just now (never heard of it before), and you have my sympathy.

Nothing Japanese today. Am wearing Niral from the swapmeet. Tomorrow, will wear a tea scent, Kenzo Amour or Rose Ikebana.
In the throes of dealing with dental implant issues for my 19-yr-old son. Two of them out of 3 are infected, but looks treatable without having to lose them and start over. He’s had issues with the permanent crowns not fitting right and had to have them re-done twice, with a lot of messing around with his gums, which I think is the source of the infections. He has zero tolerance for pain and even less patience. He tends to take out his frustrations on me, though he does apologize. Hopefully it will get resolved soon.

I had a very busy day off today, and I still have to go and pick up my son from work. Today was my last visit to my primary Doctor as he is retiring next month. He’s been my Doctor for 35 years, and also my children’s Doctor. I cried. I wanted to wear something happy because it really is a happy occasion for him. I wore Chance eau Vive.

So hard to change doctors when you have a favorite. I hope you find someone else that you really like.

That is difficult. When you have a good healthcare provider, you trust them and want to stick with them.

Good luck with finding someone new.

I’m sure you are a patient he will miss😊 When my 35+ year doctor retired last year, I cried too. It’s such a significant relationship.

I wore only a bit of Mx. today so not cp-compliant, but I have a good plan for tomorrow’s fragrance.

We went out to lunch and then saw our grandson who seems to have grown so much since we last saw him a month and a half ago (he is now just over 5 months old). We were out of town and then they were out of town. Fun to see his changes.

Very late, but I wore Satori today for the CP. I like it ok, but it’s not love.
