It's Monday and John Lennon’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
The heat came on today for the first time, so I'm in a dab of Donna Karan Black Cashmere.
Reminder: on 10/13, we're off to India! Wear a perfume that is named for a place in India, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to India, or that features an Indian ingredient, or ?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hello!
Sotd is Gucci A Reason To Love. Rose + oud combo, and yes, it smells just like all the other ones out there but the quality is good so I am enjoying it. Plus, the bottle is so pretty. Ha.
I kept stalking LV’s website waiting for them to launch Myriad so that I know when I can go in-store to test, but no sign of it just yet!
Maybe call a local store?
First full day in Paris, and how rude would it be to wear anything other than a French scent? I have a bunch of sample vials with me, so I’m in the original Chanel Allure Homme, which I never liked enough to buy a full bottle of, but it really is good, peppery and complex.
Tried four of the five Serge Lutens room sprays at Galeries Lafayette and, hopelessly seduced by the saleswoman and her French vowels, bought the Japanese one. On the verge of buying the Scottish one, too, which smells shockingly like an actual peat fire: I have to get my husband to smell it first to make sure he doesn’t think it smells like something’s burning every time it gets used. Scored a sample of Ecrin de Fumée, which I liked on the test strip but can’t see paying €150 for. (And I told the saleswoman that in English we call the “flaçon de table” a “bell jar”, a term she had never heard. She repeated it to herself several times, which is about the only way to memorize words in a foreign language.)
Lunch was at a sidewalk table at a little café, a cheese plate with really excellent cheese, butter, and bread, and a big bottle of sparkling water. Can’t get any more French than that!
what an elegant and lovely day!
How will you get your perfume purchases back home? With all the restrictions on shipping perfume and with the limits on liquids in carryon baggage, not to mentions the limits on sizes of carryon bags, I always wonder what is the best way to arrange to get my purchases home, should I ever get to travel internationally and buy some perfume.
Pack them properly and carefully in your checked luggage, and you’ll be fine. I’ve brought many fragrances home on trips. And orhen we came home from Japan I had twelve bottles of ink
Drat it all I hit “enter” by accident.
And when we came home from Japan I had twelve bottles of ink in my checked bag: each one was in its own zip-lock bag, all were in a larger plastic bag, and they were carefully nestled between layers of clothing for padding. Nothing was broken or compromised in any way, not even the boxes. So I wouldn’t worry about it at all.
So you’ve never had an issue with something disappearing out of your checked bags? I’ve read so many stories of things going missing, presumably by way of sticky-fingered airport employees. I do know they tell you quite pointedly not to pack electronics, money, or jewelry in checked luggage for precisely that reason. Or maybe perfume is not a particular target for the thieves?
Same here — we’ve even brought wine home from Australia and Germany in our checked luggage. We just pack it carefully — as you do, in plastic, surrounded by padding. So far (knocking on wood), nothing has been stolen.
Paris, that’s awesome!
If you get the chance, do visit the newish perfume floor of Printemps while you’re here. It’s on blvd Haussmann, too, a little further down from GL. It’s a real find with some great smaller brands there.
Sounds like a perfect first full day!
I’m so glad that your flight apparently worked out and you made it there!
Thanks! The forecast for the tropical storm was moved back by an entire day, and the skies were clear when we flew out Saturday evening. I suppose it rained and blew on Sunday, but by then I didn’t care.
Enjoy the rest of your trip! I’m so glad you made it there without a hitch.
Sounds so lovely and so French!
Yay for perfume buying and cheese consumption in France! 🇫🇷
Ahh, this sounds perfect! Enjoy Paris!
Oriza L. Legrand’s shop is near Opéra (and GL and the Printemps) as well. Even if you’re not a great fan of the scents, their shop is a delight as are their soaps.
Oh, I want to be in Paris eating real cheese and real bread for lunch! Hope you enjoy every second of your stay. Ah, those French girls and their vowels…I also second Austenfan’s suggestion to go to Oriza and get some of their soaps, which are much better than their perfumes to my nose…
Oh, that sounds so awesome!!
Thirding the suggestion for Oriza L. Legrand. Never tried their soaps, but I love some of their incense perfumes.
What a lovely day!!
Good morning! SOTD is Papillon Bengal Rouge from the swapmeet (thank you therabbitsflower!). Its getting cold here in NYC so I have warm socks on.
In the midst of moving I have gathered up a number of perfume samples and decants that need a new home. If you are interested in a free mystery box of samples (niche and designer, 20-30 samples), please email me at: me at pir atefsh dawt net (without spaces). No swap necessary! CONUS only.
Hello, just sent email, want to make sure i got your addy correct.
Hi! I don’t think I got your email, mind sending it again? you can also find my email by clicking on my username and scrolling down to the footer 🙂
Ooh, now you’ve inspired me to wear Bengale Rouge one day this week for the CP. Thanks!
In Neela Vermeire Bombay Bling for the CP and to warm up on this sunny but cold day. Winter has arrived for me! 😫. I will probably stick to my samples of Neela Vermeire for the rest of the week since I have not worn them in a long time.
On our way to apple and grape picking with my youngest sister, husband, and nieces. Looking forward to having a nice and relaxing day.
Happy Monday! 🌞
Have a great time!
Thank you!
Enjoy your day, pl67, you smell great.
Thank you, Ringthing! 🌻
Sounds nice, enjoy.
Thank you. We had a very nice time.
Enjoy your day! Love the Fall temps 🤣
Thank you, Hajusuuri!
I could barely handle summer temps this year, and now I am already freezing. Where to go! 🤷♀️
Your fruit picking trip sounds like a great time! 🍎🍏🍇
We had a good time, especially the girls. We got apples, grapes, peppers, and cucumbers. Not so many people, which was more enjoyable. But it was horribly cold and windy! 🥶
Bombay Bling, how perfect! You smell great!
It is getting chilly here as well; amazingly enough, I do not have the heat on yet, but its time will come.
I believe the Soup Of The Day will be Lime Basil and Mandarin. I’ll go around smelling like a salad today, why not? Lol, it’s actually nice, especially after drydown. Jo Malones usually do not disappoint.
I put the heat on this morning, and turned it up shortly thereafter!
Habari, fragrant friends.
Just in the door from Africa. What a wonderful wonderful journey.
Somewhere is packed Chloe Vanilla planifolia and Gris Dior.
Must go lay down now.
Welcome back!
Oh, I’ve been thinking about you and hoping your trip was everything you hoped for and more! Enjoy your rest, I’m quite sure you’re absolutely exhausted.
Woohoo, welcome back!
Welcome home apsara, and sleep well!
Welcome back!
Can’t wait to hear more about your trip! Welcome back!
Yay for a wonderful journey! And let us know your thoughts on the Chloe Vanilla…I have been tempted by that one but haven’t tried it.
Welcome back!
Oh yay!! Get good rest, can’t wait to hear about your trip.
That sounds amazing! And Gris Dior is wonderful.
Wearing L’ Artisan’s Safran Troublant and welcoming the (slightly) cooler weather here in Paris.
Perfect.🍂🍁
ST is such a terrific fall scent.
I wore Coco edp yesterday and it smelled so good that I’m wearing it again today.
The heat went on yesterday and so did the extra blanket on the bed. It’s a beautiful sunny morning but definitely chilly!
I wore Coco Friday. You smell amazing! I think that one is as good, or better, than some of the exclusifs.
😂 So funny you should say that. The first time I smelled it a few months back, it was on a man and before he told me what it was, I would’ve guessed it was a Chanel Exclusif!
Funny. I wore Coco Noir yesterday and put on my flannel sheets.
I turned on the heat last night here. It actually came on this afternoon. And last week I was using A/C!
Woke up to 41*F in the camper this morning! I went to bed last night with the windows and skylight wide open because it was a tad warm, so this is what I get. I woke about 2am or so to hear some coyotes way off in the distance howling and yipping. Snuggled up with my four legged heater and went back to sleep.
After going most of the weekend without internet, I landed at a camp spot last night with connectivity. First checked NST (because that is de rigueur!) then went to the news and was so appalled and disheartened that I didn’t even read anything. Saw the headlines and clicked off immediately. 🙁
I have maybe one perfume that fits this weeks CP so I’ll leave that for Friday. Today I’m in SL Chergui because it’s lovely and the nippy air this morning makes a perfect foil. Sun is shining like a demon, a mild intermittent breeze, and cup of steaming coffee in hand! What a wonderful chilly morning.
Happy Monday!
P.S. for those road warriors out there, don’t miss driving 64 just north of Taos and headed NW (or SE depending on your direction of travel). One of the most stunning drives I’ve done so far, with aspen and birch beginning to turn incandescent yellow, here and there shining like a spotlight amidst the dark pines and firs. Some areas have entire stands of these glowing beauties, lining creeks and rivers. From a distance, it looks like flowing streams of molten gold cascading down the mountain. The road is two lane, minimally trafficked, with plenty of curves, dips, and climbs to keep you interested. Biggie Smols flew up and down like Hanoverian gracefully and effortlessly clearing a fence. A LOVLEY drive!
You smell wonderful and your description of your surroundings made it feel like I am right there with you!
I have photos in IG but in real life the colors are brighter and more intense. Stunning! 🤩
Aspens turning gold in the Rocky Mountains are a breathtaking sight for sure.
So glad you are enjoying all that wonderful scenery! Ignore the news for as long as you can stand it, it’s all bad.
Still in Lyric since I haven’t hopped in the shower yet. After my shower, I will be wearing Tobacco Vanille. Bath and Body Works is having a sale on their summer items. I got the Lavender and Iris Body stuff and Hero Body wash. Those are for Christmas presents though. Sephora will be having their fall sale soon. Rouge members can start on the 27th and everyone else is on Halloween. That means I can get another Tobacco Vanille travel spray. Eventually, I will get a full bottle but it’s not in the cards.
I looked up the price of the travel sprays, those are no bargain. Hope Sephora does a decent mark down.
I hope this comment is okay — Royalty Scents offers subscriptions to get decants, and they currently offer Tobacco Vanille as an option. Their standard sprays are 8 ml.
I’m in Molcecule 01 for another Monday.
I have to go back and read the weekend poll for inspiration, I’ve been in another reading slump.
Had a nice family weekend. Saturday was my son’s birthday and he came home for a quick 24 hour visit. We had dinner and watched a movie as a family, and I made his favorite chocolate cake- the one I’ve been making since his first birthday. He said he misses being home, which makes me sad because I miss him too. This fall light, or lack thereof, is trying to get the best of me and I’m trying to fight it but the struggle is real.
Hopefully a lunchtime walk and some sun will help.🌞
SAD is no joke, one of the reasons I am NOT looking forward to the time change next month.
I always looked forward to the “fall back” time change when i was working. I am very much NOT a morning person, and it was tremendously hard to have to get up, get dressed, get my coffee, pack my lunch, and drive to work all in the pitch dark. The last month or so of DST during October/early November was the worst. Having even a glimmer of sunlight in the morning when the alarm went off, or even during my commute, made it so much easier for my brain to accept that it was morning, and not still the middle of the night. Of course, now that I am retired, I don’t really have to care. I just go to bed and get up when my body wants to, except for occasional days when I have some sort of morning appointment.
They talk about getting rid of fall back/spring forward every year around this time and in March, but so far, nada. (i’m not surprised).
Hugs. I hate when the daylight fades away to short, cold days too.
But if the days didn’t become shorter, we wouldn’t be able to enjoy all the beautiful light displays in December.
What a great CP! I have several candidates. Today’s SOTD will be Un Jardin Après la Mousson, after my morning application of two other Jardin fragrances (Méditerranée and Cythère) wears off. I love Mousson so much that it might make a repeat appearance on Friday!
Oh good! I need to start thinking of candidates tonight.
Two on my list are Bengale Rouge and Assam of India. Must think of another!
Still commando but I think I’ll wear Turmeric Latte this morning. Turmeric always reminds me of Indian food, which is where I first cooked with it frequently.
After a nice weekend, it’s cooled off and getting ready to rain. I’m staying in today to cook Thanksgiving dinner, though I really have to psych myself up to get out for a run before the rain really settles in.
Happy Thanksgiving to all celebrating in Canada!
Hope you have a great Thanksgiving. I’m jelly of all that home cooked goodness you’ll be enjoying!
Happy Thanksgiving to you ockeghem!
I’m wearing Shalimar Iris this morning as I wait for the rain to start. It looks like summer is really over here. Today I’ll move the summer clothes into the guest room closet and make some date nut bread this afternoon.
I switched summer/winter shoes today, sweaters & shirts will be tomorrow. Some day I hope to get rid of enough stuff that I can stop doing the seasonal switch!
SOTD is Magie Noire from my vintage-ish (1990’s) bottle. I am claiming CP points since this includes sandalwood in its notes, and being from the 90’s, it is probably Indian sandalwood. Really I picked it just because the bottle caught my eye and I haven’t worn it in a long time.
What a great perfume.
It is. There is only about 7 or 8 mL left in the 50 mL bottle, so I only have a few more wearings left. I had bought another bottle when this one was starting to get low, but it turned out to be a newer formulation that was nothing like the old stuff, and I swapped it away.
It had been quite a while since I wore this, and I am a bit surprised by what I am sniffing. This is usually classified as an Oriental, but it is NOT a sweet vanilla/amber/sandalwood/spice bomb like many Orientals. It is, in comparison, a rather dry, slightly smoky fragrance in which the incense dominates rather than the heavier, sweeter notes of Shalimar, Opium, Youth Dew, Emeraude, and the like. I honestly can’t imagine a mainstream brand putting out a fragrance like this today, except maybe Guerlain. I’m a little sad to realize that I can only wear it a few more times, even though I have lots of other perfumes. When a bottle gets down just a couple of ml left, I tend to “retire” it rather than draining it dry. I set aside the bottle with the last few drops of perfume so I can sniff it now and again or spritz on a tiny bit to remind me what it smelled like or to compare it with other perfumes.
SOTD = Eris Parfums Mxxx.
Boy oh boy! It’s a kitchen sink fragrance for sure! My summary is that it smells spicy feral amber patchouli. I have to wear it more often.

My niece may need to stay one more night in the hospital. I’m curious about the rehab and will ask after her discharge from the hospital.
I must have missed the info about your niece but I sure hope she’s progressing!
I like your description. It makes me want to try that perfume, especially the “feral amber patchouli” part.
Ooooooooh, your SOTD sounds marvelous!
It’s a tender sort of day here. Cool and verging-on-rainy, Biscuit home with yet another cold, feeling a bit emotionally hung over from some heavy and trying things that had to be dealt with over the weekend, the kind of weekend that one needs a weekend to recover from, but alas, here’s the work week. My SOTD and TOTD match today: The Unicorn Spell for its sweet gentle greeny-violetness, and Simpson & Vail violet black tea. Cuddly socks, cashmere sweatpants, and Biscuit playing pirates on the floor while I do my best to work from home.
I’m sorry you’ve had to go through a lot recently. I hope the soft textures and scents will help restore some peace and serenity.
Violet black tea sounds like a wonderful way to deal with a dreary, gloomy Monday.
Sending you peace and comfort vibes Isabella! This too shall pass.
Commando for a medical test this morning I am anxious about. 😟Please see your best virtual vanilla vibes my way. 😉 I shall douse myself in something vanilla-centric later today.
Ohh, sending hugs, and fingers crossed for reassuring results!
Thanks, Isabella!
hugs!
Thanks, LTSG!
Good luck with your medical test. I hope it goes well and the procedure is not too stressful. Slow, deep breaths will help if pain is involved.
Thank you, Kanuka!
Sending warm thoughts and well wishes.
Thank you, Calypso!
I hope that your test went well today, and that you get good results from it.
Thank you, Jalapeno!
I hope your test went smoothly and you’re relaxing in snuggly clothes and your favorite vanilla perfume. 🤗
Thank you, Nancyleandros!
All the vanilla to you, She-ra!
Thank you, Robin…I need every last bit! 🤣
Shalimar , no flankers, just the queen in all her glory
If Kanuka is reading-I am finding that book you mentioned on the weekend pole at the library. There is one on order so when the library gets it I will have it in my hands.
That’s good. I had read you had a Shelley exhibit. In Search of Mary Shelley by Fiona Sampson is also quite good. I preferred the Poet and the Vampyre though. More dramatic.
https://www.theguardian.com/books/2018/jan/04/in-search-mary-shelley-fiona-sampson-review?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
You are a wealth of book knowledge
Oh! That’s what I’ll wear today. It’s fall break here, which just means that we are both working non-stop. But also means no worries about potentially bothering others with my perfume!
hey twin…
I’m wearing La Vierge de Fer and really enjoying it. My full bottle is 2/3 gone and wondering if I should get a back-up . It’s probably taken ten years to use what I have so maybe there’s no rush. The tulips are flowering in my neighbour’s lawn, and all my freesias are out and finally the first of the silver birches are getting leaves. Just one maple and the copper beech to go, and then all the nearby trees will be green again.
It’s such a wonderful feeling when the green returns. Here, the gold is just getting underway in earnest, and I can sigh over the beauty and overlook the fact that the *sticks* are just around the corner.
Tulips, already! The maple outside my office window has hardly lost any leaves yet, but soon enough you’ll have yours and I’ll have none 🍁🍁🍁
Wearing Diptyque Eau Lente for the CP:
“Travel back to the time of Alexander the Great. Eau Lente eau de toilette is a journey through history. Opoponax, cedar, cinnamon …
At night, spices and resins were burned to produce a smoke that was rich in delicate, balmy accents, soothing the soul and relaxing the
body. Gradually, plans were shaped for the great conquests to come.”
Alexander tried to conquer India but abandoned the idea after one battle against Indian king Porus. So India remained unconquered.
Oh, fabulous connection! I love learning bits of history like this. 🙂
I love historically themed fragrances. Especially when a scent lives up to the big names and events it was inspired by – and I think this one does.
Wow, that scent sounds sumptuous. The one big thing Alexander managed in India, well more than one really, was to spread a lot of the artistic and intellectual culture of ancient Greece there. (I’m sure there was some mutual influence.) There are Hellenistic influences on some sculptures there, and coinage–in what is now Afghanistan. Also some ancient philosophy texts we have now such as ones from Theophrastus were found in libraries in that part of the world.
In short, balsamic smoky spiciness. I get a lot of clove from it, which I personally love. Very comfy on a cold day.
Interesting. I did not know about Afghanistan. When I researched for this CP, I found out that he conquered some territories of modern Pakistan. Of course, this huge empire had to influence its neighbors.
Trying to ward off an incipient cold. I woke up this morning with a scratchy throat and a sniffly nose and feeling generally tired and a bit lightheaded. A COVID test came up negative at least. I sprayed my throat liberally with myrrh tincture, which very often works to keep these things from taking hold, if done early enough. I really, really need to be well enough to travel by Friday, as we have a trip planned which cannot be rescheduled. We are going out of town to be in the center of the path of the annular solar eclipse on Saturday. It will be pretty good where I live, around 90%, but I really want to see the full impact of an annular eclipse with the “ring of fire” effect, and this is likely the last one I will have a reasonable chance of viewing in my lifetime.
A week or so ago I was in Bluff, Utah which is directly in the path. I overnighted at an RV park to do laundry and empty, sanitize, and fill my tanks and the guy who owned that place was running around like a mad man trying to get ready for the huge influx of people that are expected. This is a very small town and all I can say is I’m glad I won’t be there. 😅 I hope wherever you travel, you get clear skies and good weather.
We’ll be in Corpus Christi, TX, which is a good sized city. It is the last city to be in the path of annularity before the moon’s shadow goes off shore over the GOM. I am hoping it won’t be too totally crazy. I think an annular eclipse isn’t generating quite the hysteria that next year’s total eclipse will. I am really hoping to get some good pics. I have two DSLR camera with 200 mm lenses, and a tripod and solar filter for each. I plan to use one to take still pics and use the other to get a few minutes of video during the maximum phase. I made the hotel reservations a year ago to make sure we would have a room, but it looks as if there are still plenty of rooms left at normal-looking prices. Maybe because several medium and large cities in TX are on the path (San Antonio, Odessa, San Angelo), it’s allowing the visitors to spread themselves over more area, and in places that have lots of hotel rooms.
I’m very excited for you! Is there a way you can share any of your photos with us later? I’m also in a place where we should be able to see some of it but not in the total range like Corpus will be. It looks like it will be a very neat looking thing to see!
I’d love to. I don’t have an Instagram account, but it looks as if I can add pictures to my Gravatar account and people will be able to see them? Yes, I do think it will make for some incredible photos. If this were only going to be a “regular” partial, I wouldn’t bother going anywhere; it doesn’t matter that much to me if an eclipse is 40% or 50% or 60%, but an annular is something else.
I hope the weather stays clear. It’s not visible from our side of the world, won’t have an annular eclipse until 2035
The next one visible in the US won’t be until 2039, and that will only be visible in Alaska. The next one visible from the contiguous 48 states won’t be until 2048. The next total eclipses after the one this coming April will be in 2033 (Alaska only), 2044 (Montana and North Dakota just before sunset) and 2045, which will cut a path across much of the US.
I hope that you have clear skies and feel great for your eclipse trek!
Fingers crossed that you don’t get sick!
I’m wearing Ashoka by Neela Vermeire. This week’s CP will be easy.
I think I need to dig out all my Neela Vermeire samples this week! I’ve rather lost touch with them.
I’m in Broken Theories this morning while awaiting the rainfall that the forecast promised. I’ve lived nearly all my life in the PNW and have no trouble whatsoever with SAD, thank goodness (other than my spouse suffering from it). I love the rain, and autumn, and the cooler weather, and wearing flannel and sweaters and scarves and warm amber scents. 🍁 🍂 🧡
I’m with you! LOVE fall so much but every year the season seems to shrink a bit more. 🍂🍁🍃
It’s been a while since I’ve been to NST.
All good here, in case anyone was concerned.
I’m in Cuir Sacre from Atelier des Ors today. Autumn is showing it’s uglier and colder side the last few days.
Yes, we were concerned! Thanks for popping in to let us know all is well!
Good to hear from you! Several people noticed your absence and were concerned. Glad everything is OK.
Everyone missed you!
Nice to see you again.
Glad to see you posting, and that all is well with you.
Hey lucasai, so glad you are well!
Good to see you again!
I’m in Escale en Haiti today. It’s just gorgeous outside, cloudless sky and 82 degrees.
I’m dragging…saw a play yesterday with a friend. It was See How They Run, a madcap comedy set in 1940’s England. It has to be one of the funniest plays I’ve ever seen. It was so nice to laugh that hard. I didn’t eat healthy food yesterday, and went to bed late last night, so I’m a good bit less than 100%. Need to measure out my misbehavior a little more judiciously! 🥳
By any chance did you see it in Brenham? That’s where we saw it a couple of weeks ago. I agree–it is a very funny play and we thoroughly enjoyed it. A couple of weeks before that, our local theater group did “The Play That Goes Wrong”, which was absolutely hilarious. The title sums it all up; think of every single thing you can come up with that could possibly go wrong in staging a play, then watch as it all happens, as well as things you probably didn’t even think of.
I did see it in Brenham! I love that theater; it’s only an hour away from me. I always feel like I’m on a little “daycation” when I go up there.
The play you describe sounds wonderful. I’m definitely a fan of comedies these days!😊
We love the Unity Theatre in Brenham! The facility itself is beautiful, and we are always very impressed with the set designs, as well as the acting. We have a season subscription; we usually spend the night in a hotel since it is a 2 1/2 hour drive from where we live, and turn it into a mini vacation.
Good morning all! I’ve got a few days of NST to catch up on. I’m in our northern city of Auckland, bringing my mother to visit her cousin. She’s no longer confident to travel herself, so I’ve felt like a travel agent, booking four flights, two rental cars and a hotel.
I’ve managed some quick perfume sniffing, and the hotel room is scented with D&G’s Velvet Amber Sun that I sprayed on a card yesterday.
That is so nice of you to do that for your mom Gaynor! Glad you managed some sniffing while you were at it 🙂
I’m very boring. I keep wearing my Arquiste Indigo Smoke almost every day. I think I have a crush on it! As Nancy already said, we’ve got BEAUTIFUL weather in Houston today. I’m out for a nice lunch after some fun clothes shopping (long sleeves, a sweater!). But in about an hour I’m getting triple vaccinated (flu, Covid-19 booster, pneumonia). I don’t have anything planned for tomorrow! But then I’ve got a dentist appointment on Wednesday. Can you tell this is my week to “get things done”? Wish me luck.
If you’re in Houston, the eclipse should be about 90% at maximum, which is still pretty spectacular. Do you have eclipse glasses? BTW, here is a link to a very good site for eclipse info:
https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/in/usa/houston?iso=20231014
You can search for any city in their database, and it will bring up info on the magnitude of the eclipse for that area, duration, times for the various stages, and an animated simulation of what you can expect to see.
Thank you for the link! I was looking at one suppled by Space City Weather, but yours is easier to work with.
Good luck with all the stuff that needs to be done!
Oh my goodness, 3 at once! You are a star. Very good luck to you.
Continuing to go through my perfume collection and weed out those things that I have to admit I will never wear. I’ve identified a couple of things that, although I like them, they do not like me. They irritate my sinuses and either make me cough a lot or give me a headache. Some other things just don’t seem likely to ever make the cut to be SOTD. I’ve realized that the real bar to clear is not simply “Do I like this?” or even “Do I like this enough to want to wear it all day or evening?”, but rather “Do I like this enough to ever choose to wear it over and above all the other perfumes I own?”
That’s a good way of looking at it. I should get rid of everything I haven’t worn in a year.
It is chilly here today, and I spent all day mooning over kitchen redo options! In the best of all possible worlds, I would go with sort of minimalist very plain unfussy cabinets in light white oak, or white maple, or even birch, over the darker tannish totally serviceable tiles that are there now. I can’t see ripping them out just to replace them with something a little different when realistically I would end up with pretty much the same color of tiles, or wood…I would put wavy glass with lights behind in the upper cabinets however, because my kitchen only has one window. See how easily I veer way from uncomplicated! LOL, Then I have two very different options for countertops and appliances. I need a countertop than needs no maintenance, so I am looking at those new sintered stone slabs like Dekton. I like a greyish brownish greenish soapstone like color with a few lighter veins, in which case I would put one of those Invisiocook stove tops in, and have no visible stove top, and then cover the frig and the dishwasher with cabinet panels too, getting back to the minimalist thing a little bit. Then I would need to get a wall oven/microwave combo, and those are all painfully ugly. There are a couple options that are all black, so I would probbly go with that, and have a black farmhouse sink to give some sense of coherence, but it would be ugly, and not minimalistic. However, those invisiocooks, much as I love the idea, don’t see to work very well as all for a lot of people, so my second option would be to get a lighter color Dekton, white with veining of darker grey and tan and gold, and get a range with an induction cooktop (because the price of propane is ridiculous, and I can just add more solar panels) in white, (in which case I would be tempted with all the shiny brass or copper trim options, and there goes the minimaslist things again) and get a big old white enamel cast iron farm sink with integral drainers on both sides of the sink or sinks itself, like what we had for a while growing up, and a faucet to match the trim on the stove.
A regular induction range can be had for a lot less than the invisiocook set up plus wall oven, but those big old sinks are close to $4,000 new these days… Sorry, I guess this isn’t exactly the place to be emoting about this, but I would love some input. SOTD today is the end of my Irisss decant. But I had allergic reactions to the perfume I wore yesterday (Barkhane) and the day before (an Amercian Perfumer special which smells spectacular for about an hour and then turns my eyes red and clogs up my sinuses, so I feel like I am justified in buying a perfume I really like that does not make me sick, right, since there are 30% off deals at the discounters right now on Irisss, for Prime Day, I guess, which isn’t available all the time. Sigh, plus reading about Paris made me want to GO THERE RIGHT NOW. Blergh!
I have light colored maple cabinets in my kitchen and love them. No hardware on them at all, so I am very minimalist in that regard.
That is a lot of decisions, and I have NO advice…I have a very old kitchen with a gas range, and I know they are bad for you but I hope I never have to give it up. I had not even heard of invisiocook…
But I did always want one of those old enamel sinks with the built in drain boards!
I look forward to hearing what you pick!
Posting late on a chilly Monday afternoon. Autumn has arrived in spades here. 🍁🍂🥶
Had a much needed lunchtime hangout with a friend today. And watched some Canadian football for the first time. Interesting!
I wore ELdO’s Putain des Palaces over the weekend as an attempt to claim late points for last week’s CP. Wearing perfume is hit or miss with me lately, but sometimes the mood does move me.
SOTD = commando, except for Korres’ Grecian Gardenia body butter. A while ago, lillyjo asked which I preferred, the Korres, or Dame Perfumery. I think now I can say that Korres would be my first choice to buy again, assuming I ever see it again.
Oh, and Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to the NSTers up there! 🦃
Did I miss Canadian Thanksgiving AGAIN? I am sorry Canada!
I used to adore Korres’ jasmine shower gel, but it seems they discontinued that fragrance.
Wishing you gentleness during this not-in-the-mood-for-fragrance time.
Thanks Isabella.
I have a bottle of the Korres Jasmine shower gel, and I haven’t opened it yet. I do see a different version of it every so often on their website, but it isn’t a regular item. My second favorite shower gel of theirs is the Mastic scent, which is a great incense-y thing.
