It's (teapot) Tuesday, and don’t forget Donatella will be stopping by later this morning! Birthdays: Eleonora Duse, Pierre Bonnard, Thomas Wolfe, James Herriot, Chubby Checker. What fragrance are you wearing?
I've overslept, which is already pretty silly, and my brain is not yet awake enough to find a silly perfume to match. I will report in later! Tea at the moment is a double-strong cup of Old South Meeting House Breakfast Blend from Upton.
Reminder: 10/6 is Mad Hatter day. Wear your silliest perfume, or come up with a silly excuse to wear whatever perfume you wanted to wear anyway.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Got inspired by the poster who is doing a vintage week, so I’m in a shot of Caron Coup de Fouet, and a few drops of Poivre. It all reminds me of how much people on MUA liked the Carons, years ago, and made up splits of each fragrance.
There is still time for a quick mountain bike after work-this may be the the last week for it, after that we have to use lights on the trials. It’s very different, being in the woods after dark-it helps to pass the evening, now that summer is on the wane.
You smell fab! I remember when Caron was popular back then. I think their popularity started waning along with the waning of quality. Caron was just ahead of the game, lol!
I just came across as decant of Caron Parfum Sacre from the old MUA days. Still smells great.
Hello.
Sotd is Diptyque 34 boulevard Saint Germain edp. Spicy woody-amber with a bit of citrus and light floral. One of my fav from the house.
The Jo Malone advent calendar saga continues.
I went to the mall and made a beeline for the store. The SA told me it would be out sometime around November and when she told me the price, I thought I misheard. In the UK (as I did my research), it costs USD$423 and in Hong Kong, it’s…$559!!! A whopping $136 more! I mean, I get that pricings are rarely the same between countries but this difference is pretty much ridiculous. I can buy a whole bottle of something nice with that. Needless to say I declined putting my name down on a pre-order and left, no second thoughts. Somehow this incident really annoyed me. Humph.
I read that 34 Boulevard Saint Germain was made to smell like the inside of a Diptyque boutique, like all of their scents all at the same time, and I can believe it. It’s so great.
I love it too! I just got a bottle in Paris this summer – couldn’t resist its warmth and beauty😊
I’m in with the love for 34! I’ve got the BuB to prove it.
Day two of my tea week, and I’m wearing Russian Tea from Masque Milano. This is from a new decant I received last month. Nice.
You smell wonderful!
If it ain’t broke, why fix it? I’m in Rahat Loukoum again today because I enjoyed it so darn much yesterday. While I wouldn’t call this one “silly,” it’s also a long way from serious.
And good news: I just found out that I got the Cal Fire grant to fund my research! I’d worked my buns off on the application a couple of months ago and have been in ‘que sera, sera’ mode since then — there were a lot of applicants and it was a competitive field. I’m beyond thrilled, both for the benefits to me and my lab-mates that the funds will bring, and for the vote of confidence in my project having real value. Feels like a blessing and a compliment all rolled together.
Congratulations, Isabella! 👏🏻
I’m so happy for you, what great news!
Congratulations!
Congratulations!
Congratulations! That’s wonderful news!
Congratulation!!!!
Congratulations!
Woohoo Isabella!
That’s fantastic — congratulations!
So happy for your and your team – congratulations!
Congratulations 🎉
Go Isabella!!
That’s wonderful news. What a thrill. Good luck with the work.
That’s great news, congratulations!
Congratulations, very well done!!
Wow…congratulations, Isabella…well done!
Congratulations! ✨🎉🎊
Congratulations on the grant!
Congratulations!
SOTD will be a walk to the Sephora by my office to randomly sample perfumes. It’s unseasonably warm today in Boston, so I’ll take a walk and enjoy the weather.
Hope you smell something lovely!
Irish Ganache
Was up with the chickens for a 8am doctors appointment
Back home now..
Preparing the batter to make madeleines
Busy cooking day today…
Yum, madeleines! Mine always stick to the pan, how do you keep yours from sticking? I made a huge apple pie yesterday and ate some for breakfast.
I butter and flour them before adding the batter
Escada Casual Friday, probably the best men’s scent they ever made (although their first one, basically a really expensive-smelling cocktail, was pretty good). Ultra spicy carnation with dozens of other things competing for your attention, flowers and woods and herbs — it has a lot of moving parts, something I always love.
I never smelled that one. But Casual Friday no longer works as a name in most places…one day people will have to explain what it was 🙂
I’m continuing the vintage week with some Arpege extrait. It was among my grandmother’s things after she passed away in 1983, so it is at least 40 years old, possibly much older. I am reconciling this with the CP theme by saying that the Mad Hatter was a character in a book published in 1865, which would make the book “vintage” as well.
It is raining HARD here, and has been for the past couple of hours, and I for one could not be happier to see it. We have been in a severe drought this summer and badly need the rain. As long a the power stays on (not a given in my neighborhood), it is all good.
50_Roses, I’ve loved Arpege for forty years-you smell great! the new version is very respectful, and I like it a lot-but I envy you having some older stock 🙂
Arpege was very popular for many years, so there are a lot of older bottles available. It’s always iffy, of course, to buy a partially used bottle, as it may have turned or evaporated, but there are also lots of NOS bottles, sealed bottles, and “barely used” bottles available, often for very reasonable prices.
Arpege was my very first perfume, my parents bought it for me in Paris on their first trip to Europe. I love it and have always kept some vintage in my collection. You smell wonderful!
Rainy all of yesterday so we had a low key day of puttering, napping and listening to audiobooks. Today is filled with bright sunshine and cool temps! Don’t know how long it will last because that sun’s a sizzler, but I’m going to enjoy it while I can.
I’m sure I have a “silly” perfume or two but can’t think of anything off the top of my head so I’m wearing the non-silly PHI Une Rose de Kandahar.
Aha…still haven’t put any scent on, I think I will wear it too. SURELY someone here can come up with a silly reason to wear Phi! Actually, it might be silly that I’m wearing it because you are?
A friend brought me some samples from Paris. Today I am trying Bien Aimé Jours Heureux (Happy Days) , loving it so far, it is powdery, soft and comforting.
Back at work after a long vacation.
Never tried the brand but do like their retro packaging. That one sounds vaguely / a little like PdN Kiss Me?
Even the packaging for the samples was cute, can’t wait to try the others too.
Hello all!
It’s raining so I went with iris: Iris de Nuit from Heeley. Cool, streamlined, and chic. I got this bottle on sale and it was will worth it.
Only have one test grade back (physics) but I did much better than expected. This class in particular was kind of a mess but we’re getting back on track.
Have a great day everyone!
I love Iris de Nuit but it lasts five minutes on me. Really only works for wearing to bed. Hopefully it lasts longer on you!
Congrats on that excellent physics test result! I hope you have a BIG treat lined up for yourself after you are completely done.
Keep on rockin’ in the academic world! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Well done! What a brain box. The only physics I remember is about locating the centre of mass on a high jumper doing the frisky flop.
Fosbury !
Ha! I like frisky flip! 😀
Flop..!
Congrats on your physics exam!
In Nomenclature Iri_Del.
Very busy day. I am planning to have lunch outside to relax and enjoy the wonderful warm, sunny weather we are having today.
Happy Tuesday! ☕️
Smelling great! Enjoy the 🌞
Thank you, Gail! It is gorgeous outside today!
I’m wearing Musc des Sables from a sample. It’s supposed to be ridiculously hot today but so far it’s not. We did have a surprise thunderstorm at 1:30am though, had to dash outside to retrieve the patio furniture & cushions.
We’re expecting 81…I might put the a/c back on.
I figured ELdO would have something silly so pulled out the sample set and put on Rien, which seems like a fairly silly name for a perfume. I’d forgotten that it smells like way too much on me and is very nearly a scrubber. I like the notes individually, but on me it just smells like rubber ashes (if that’s even a thing). I seem to recall that this phase dies down at a certain point, so hoping that’s soon.
You’ve inspired me to do an ELdO week, thanks!
Glad to be an inspiration. 🙂
Rubber ashes sounds pretty grim. Hope it switches soon.
Great idea to think of ELd’O! I might be copying you later. Great idea with ELdO!
I didn’t even consider ELdO!
Not sure if this is a silly fragrance but the name sure is. I’m wearing Lush Silky Underwear. I found a solid fragrance tin in the bathroom cabinet from my cleaning efforts. It’s still texturily smooth so I could apply it to my wrists plus it still smells great.
A lot of Lush scents have silly names. In fact, the whole Lush brand has a rather kooky aesthetic. I think the Mad Hatter would probably feel right at home in a Lush shop.
Excellent, I might wear that tomorrow!!
Starting the cp week in ELdO Nombril Immense because I love the patchouli and the name is as wacky as they come.
Yes!
Great idea!
What’s a tea party without sweets? I brought some candy… Prada Candy! 🍭🍬🍮
Scent twins!
Perfect!
Good morning, NST! I’ve been awol for a bit because I’ve been on my very first cruise. Took a variety of travel sprays with me, but only wore Agar Ébène and Tam Dao. This was a HUGE ship, over 3,000 passengers, 18 decks (we were on deck 16), with a movie theater, swimming pools and hot tubs, and even a casino. I smelled a lot of Le Labo on board (not sure which one, but you all know how the LL base is very recognizable), and on one “formal” night I caught a whiff of Jil Sander No. 4. No mistaking that, since it was my daily wear for about ten years.
Anyway, this morning I’m finally reunited with the full collection and I’m happily wafting Ambre Narguilé.
welcome back!
Thank you!
I was wondering why you hadn’t been around – hope you enjoyed the cruise!
It was interesting and instructive. It’s really amazing how engineering has rendered something that massive able to venture deep into basically a fjord (we were in the inside passages along the coast of Alaska) and spin on a dime to get back out again. Also amazing how many different nationalities were represented on board.
That is something I never would have thought of, the engineering of the ship. That is interesting!
You were missed, welcome back!
Thank you!
Welcome back!
Thanks, J!
How exciting! Welcome back!
Thanks, lillyjo!
SheriG did you love the cruise? Will you do it again?
There were parts I loved, and parts that were, er, less than memorable. We did love Juneau — a very fun, laid-back, and welcoming vibe in that town. A lot like what Portland was like about 30 years ago. And the railroad trip into the mountains around Skagway was illuminating as to the gold rush and what those folks went through for not very much in the way of reward. If we do another cruise, it will be on a much smaller ship.
Gotcha. I think I am not a cruise person but I do know people who love them.
I’m on no.5 L’eau. Always works.
It’s another sunny, gorgeous day. I’m going to enjoy it while it lasts and not think about the weather change that’s coming.🌞
Scent twins!
Hey twin!🙌
Just got back from Barnes and Noble after picking up their book club pick for this month. Of course I couldn’t leave without buying three more books.
This afternoon I am volunteering at a health fair so my second day rose needed to be quiet. I am joining Madtowngirl in No 5 L’eau.
It is very dangerous (to my wallet) for me to go into a book store. I don’t seem to be able to leave Half Price Books without buying at least 3 or 4.
I ran into half price books today too.
What are you reading? I’d love to hear.
Right now I am reading a book by a friend of mine. She was a geriatric nurse, like me, and wrote a book titled Turning: The Magic and Mystery of More Days. It is about health and faith while aging.
I bought two thriller books and then the book for the book club is The Prospectors about the Klondike Gold Rush.
Thank you for volunteering at a health fair. My brother has benefitted from those in the past.
Decided to wear no 5 edt today. I only have about 2 more wearings of that bottle before it’s finished. Let’s hope I finish off that bottle in the next 5 days.
Rooting for a thunk!
Yay for almost thunking distance!
C’mon, perfume thunk!
Our weather has been a bit mad hatter recently: snow on Saturday, gale force winds making the house shake and yesterday it was like butter wouldn’t melt…a perfect calm day with blue skies. Spring is always lumpy down here as the cold air from the Antarctic meeting the warmer air from the Tasman causes a bit a bit of a wind tunnel. Wearing my only perfume with a hat, Twilly Tutti Frutti , a sweet-sour blur of scent that is breezy. Reading a very interesting book called Elixir, about perfume and chemistry, in Paris…more a chemistry history and how it touches in perfume than a history of perfume.
https://harvardpress.typepad.com/hup_publicity/2023/04/inside-the-perfumed-world-of-bohemian-paris-with-theresa-levitt.html
I’m enjoying it.
OH, this sounds very interesting. My next Audible credit becomes available in a couple days, I think I will choose this as my nest audiobook!
This sounds good.
I’m wearing DSH Oeillets Rouges this cloudy, cool morning.
Me too! Scent twins!
Isn’t it so good?
I’m wearing Black Orchid today. I love when the seasons turn and I get to break out the heavy hitters.
Oh you smell great. A cool weather favorite.
Another one of my favorites!
I’m suffering from perfume ennui since I haven’t been feeling great the last few days. I spritzed a little ffern Autumn 2023 this morning, and I was looking for my sample of Harvest Mouse after that but couldn’t find it. Hmm, I’m getting an idea for the splitmeet.
p.s. Robin, you’ve outdone yourself with today’s photo. CP reference and a mad hat! 🌟
We have hats coming all week 🙂
Hope you are feeling better soon, AnnE.
Thanks, ringthing, I’m sure I will.
Sorry to hear that you aren’t feeling well.
Thanks, Jalapeno!
Feel better soon AnnE!
Thanks!
Maybe it’s just that I take my own perfume collection too seriously and other people would fall about laughing at some of my perfumes, but I’m lacking in silly things. There is plenty of pretentious, however, and I’m wearing Fort and Manle’s Under Which Rivers Flow. The price was certainly silly 🙂
Hey, a silly price is as good a reason as any!
Trying Reminiscence Patchouli today which I bought a few months back for cheap on a discounter site. Beautiful, earth and pretty potent.
earthY rather 😉
That is a great patchouli perfume! Definitely not for beginners, though.
Joining Glannys in Prada Candy. Only reason is that I wanted sweet and it’s hot here, Candy is a warm weather scent to me since it’s sweet but not heavy. We’re are on track to break the high temperature record today, I believe it, it feels like August.
It’s like a diet perfume in a good way. When you want something sweet but light.
My silly perfume name of the day is Dzing! And note that the exclamation point is part of the name. 😆 This is one of those perfumes I rarely wear but when I do wear it, I think, “I should wear this more often.”
Oooh, good idea, that! I may have to copy you later this week.
Nice pick!
Twins a week apart. There actually is a space between the “g” and the “!”.
Oh, funny. I didn’t notice that earlier but just looked at my bottle to confirm it. 😃
I’m wearing 21 Conduit St. Nothing silly about it (but it has some notes I think of as fun, like grapefruit and rhubarb). When I google that address in London though, I could really picture a fun milliner setting up shop there!
Points then!
Still raining here–there have been a few breaks here and there, but then it starts up again. I am NOT complaining. We needed this rain. I am a bit amused at how the weather people keep updating the forecast. This morning, they were forecasting a total of 0.35″ for the day, and when I was looking at that I was thinking we had almost certainly already exceeded that. The next time I looked, it said 1.30″, then 2.01″, and now 2.34″.
Glad that the rain is falling where it is wanted and needed!
Song of the Day: https://youtu.be/rdpBZ5_b48g
I had this song stuck in my head for most of last month. It is refusing to move on. Incredibly persistent earworm, you are.
Gorgeous early fall weather that feels like summer here. I had a beautiful butterfly dance around me as I was on my way to get groceries earlier today. It was black with flashes of iridescent blue on its wings, and had the swallowtail shape to it.
SOTD = commando, except for Dame Perfumery Gardenia soliflore body butter in the usual spots.
I walked to the grocery as well. It was gorgeous out!
Not a cloud to be seen! Enjoying it while it lasts for sure.
How wonderful to see that butterfly!
Yep! I’ve seen a few of them recently.
Much nicer than all the ravens that were hanging around my area back in the summer.
Is it my imagination or were Butterflies much more abundant when I was a kid?
Not your imagination.
There’s been a noticeable decline in butterflies here in the last 5 years or so. I used to see more of them. Same with fireflies.
And birds.
SOTD = Masque Milano L’Attesa
Iris, orris, leather, sandalwood – woot!

If I win the big $1.2B Powerball lottery on Wednesday, I will continue to post like it was nothing. 🤣
I ended up walking to Wegmans this afternoon. I of course stopped by the Dollar (+ $0.25) Store, took some pictures at Home Goods (nothing to buy) and then finally Wegmans. It was good exercise and made it easier to spend slightly frivolously.
Ha! We both went to Wegmans today! I was looking for something specific that I didn’t find at “my” store, though.
I hope you win!
It was so perfect out today I couldn’t hardly stand it!
My sotd was Tendre Poison which is also perfect.
Lucky you to have some Tendre Poison!
Lucky indeed. It’s my favorite of the bunch. I treasure it.
The weather has been just glorious. Of course in three days it will go over the cliff into cold & rainy.
