It's Monday and the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am at the beach, and as is often the case when I'm here, I'm commando. I will probably not accrue many community project points this week.
Reminder: on 9/15, we're off to Italy! Wear a perfume that is named for a place in Italy, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to Italy, or that features an Italian ingredient, or ?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hello!
Sotd is La Nuit… Transfiguree by a new brand called Scène Fragrance. It is very powdery, with a hint of rose and geranium and a soft vanilla + suede dry down. Quite pretty, but you will have to like that cosmetics powder-type scent.
I plan to go to Lush to look at their Halloween offerings. I am interested in the “Sparkly Pumpkin” bodywash.
Enjoy Lush!
Ooo I do like cosmetic powder types. And all the other notes mentioned. Interesting!
Wonder if that “Sparkly Pumpkin” bodywash has glitter in it?
In a rose mood today: my favourite roses are all dark and moody, but it is a glum, rainy day and I didn’t feel like amplifying that so I’m in the cheerful Eau de Joy. If you’re going to do a fresh dewy sunshine-on-the-petals rose, this is a great way to do it. It really makes me happy.
Gosh, forgot that existed. And not sure I ever smelled it! Love Joy though.
Eau de Joy is more exuberant, with aldehydes and greenery up top and a definite musk note in the bottom (and musks aren’t something that usually register strongly with me). EdJ is soprano, Joy is mezzo-soprano.
Thanks!
Having only smelled orginal Joy, I feel you painted a good word picture here!
Eau de Joy used to be insanely cheap at the discounters not that long ago.
It still is.
I love all things Italian.
La Danza Delle Libellule (“the dance of the dragonflies, ”)
A soothing gourmand. I need it today for a stressful doctors appointments. Though its Italian-its a nod to American apple pie lol
Spreading and sending love today to my fellow NYers on this somber day and to Morocco.
Good luck at the doctor’s office!
Sending more good luck…hope your appt goes smoothly.
Hopefully you are done with the doctor, and are at home relaxing now.
Spending time at the beach sounds awesome!
I am in BOIS1920 Come l’Amore, because it has “calabrian green tangerine” in it. It does have a sweet juicy citrus note, but it is gone quickly. This is a white floral perfume, with gardenia and jasmine. Pretty, happy and fairly well-behaved – a cleaner and lighter scent than your typical big white floral.
It is hot but not as hot as August…and have already eaten a week’s worth of ice cream 🙂
Enjoy the beach, Robin! Not a beach day here, but it will be by the weekend, so I’m saving a lot of my more summery Italian scents for later this week.
For today I’m on CP in Tauer Sotto la luna Tuberose, since it has Italian in the name. Also, I bought this on the trip when I first spent time in Italian-speaking Switzerland (though I bought the bottle in Zürich). That part of Switzerland was beautiful, and quite different from the north.
Where did you go in Italian speaking Switzerland
We were in Bellinzona — just a quick day trip down from Zürich, where we were plant-sitting at a friend’s flat while they were on vacation. That was a wonderful vacation!
Thank you!
Have a nice and relaxing time at the beach, Robin!
Wearing CdG Zargorsk. Incense today to remember those lost in the city twenty two years ago. My heart also with the people of Morocco.
Thank you pl67!
Great pick to mark the day. The pictures of Morocco this morning are just tragic.
Enjoy the beach, Robin!
Cool and rainy here. I’m wearing Chanel Egoiste.
Thank you, and you smell fantastic!
You smell awesome today! Do you have a bottle?
No, a generous decant from a generous NSTer, and I’m burning it up, it smells so good.
I was wondering how recent it was. I actually saw bottles of it for sale in Real Life not that long ago.
I am wearing my new Laboratorio Olfattivo Til, I was looking for a linden scent for a very long time and this is it for me.
The weather has become more bearable where I am, finally we can walk without sweating.
Thinking of the people of Morocco.
Oh, is Til fantastic??
Yes, very curious! I love linden scents.
it is amazing Robin, so fesh, green . It is not solely linden, it’s mixed with other notes, the linden is definitely there though.
Very late, but thanks Hera!
My very best favorite Italian perfume is SMN Eva and I’ll wear that on Friday, if not sooner. But this morning I’m in Agar Ébène (I think those are the accent marks on the little bottle), with which I am falling more and more in love. Robin’s review of it is spot on, in case you’re curious. Very understatedly elegant and easy to wear.
Eva is so wonderful. Yet another I’d own if it came in a smaller size.
Agar Ebene is one of the Hermessences? Or is it a TF fragrance?
It is one of the Hermessences, now my second favorite after Ambre Narguilé.
Thanks for clearing that up!
Not able to face the mountain of content in my inbox to review, I spent the morning trying to figure out how to send a wire transfer to an org my colleague in Marrakesh said would be the best one to send to. Ally Bank, which I have loved ever since I switch to it–a little low tech, but that’s alright by me– apparently cannot send a wire transfer to Morocco. Anyway, I think I just found a workaround.
In perfume news, I am trying out AT’s Golestan. Someone on Fragrantica said it was similar to Elie Saab Le Parfum. Less well-rounded, less department-store finished, but otherwise I totally agree. I am so glad I read that person’s review. It was niggling at me what was the perfume I was reminded of.
I use Wise (formerly Transferwise) for all of my international transfers, because my credit union is pretty much useless when it comes to wire transfers of any kind, but especially international. I’ve had good experiences with them so far, if your workaround doesn’t work out.
I second the WISE recommendation. I’ve used it several times: Africa, Croatia and also in Germany when I discovered German eBay! Safe, easy and well established overseas.
Yes! Literally just sent our donation. Love it.
What services do you use at Ally Bank?
Emailing you 😊🪙
Wait. Didn’t work. I used the overl . . . email.
Yeah, that email address is kaput.
I’m now at the geemayle as jalapeno2550.
SL Chergui today for Morocco (although I just found out it’s also the name of an island off Tunisia). Also remembering 9/11.
Today needs to be a day of accomplishment. How appropriate that our theme is Italy this week. We head out for a trip to Italy (Rome, in particular) very soon where our son, who studied there briefly ten years ago and majored in history and classics will give us a long-desired tour.
Best thing this weekend: babysitting our 3 1/2 month old grandson while his parents went out to dinner to celebrate their anniversary. He gave me the most beautiful smiles as we played and then fell asleep as I held him. Yes, he smells delicious — most of the time. (And full disclosure, yes, he also cried for awhile!)
Ooooooooooh, enjoy that trip to Italy!
But even the tears are wonderful (to a point!). How sweet to be able to babysit him! It sounds like you are enjoying the new grandparenting gig 🙂
Grabbed a decant of SJP Lovely Sheer to take to work after biking there. A nice choice for a hot late summers day. I am still pondering what scents to take with me for the holidays, i am thinking maybe Fidji and Roma, plus some decants. Maybe i will buy something in France. I tested Eau de Campagne some weeks ago, this would be a great summer scent too, and the tomato leaf note is great!
Shopping envy!
Yep!
I’ll have to think about what Italian perfumes I have, the two that come to mind are from Arte Profumi, and are a bit much for the office. Meanwhile, I’ll wear Guerlain’s Nahema today, it just came to mind as ideal for a cool spring today. The sun is shining and the sky is cloudless, but it’s a bit colder than it looks.
Nahema is a beautiful scent!
Trying Caswell Massey Honeysuckle and it’s lovely so far…lots of citrus and honeysuckle. Honeysuckle and jasmine have many similarities to my nose and they both usually remind me of vanilla too…not sure if others experience that? I googled it once and found this on The Perfume Society website no affiliation and don’t frequent it either 😉 but the quote is spot on imho…
Walk through a garden – especially at dusk – and you’ll smell honeysuckle way before you see it: heady and nectarous, a little like jasmine tinged with vanilla.
Had lots of work stress last week and then some personal stress over the weekend and ongoing this week sadly. 🙁 But right now I am happy to be sniffing vanilla-tinged honeysuckle. 🙂
Perfume Makes Everything Better
🥰 it really does!
Sorry that you have been under so much stress lately. It sucks. Hopefully you will catch a break sometime soon.
Thank you, Jalapeno! ❤️
Hugs, She-ra!
Thank you, ringthing! ❤️
I hope things get better soon! You smell delicious, anyway.
Thank you, SP! ❤️
Hoping all your stressors ease up soon!
Thank you, tulipani! ❤️
Very floral today: (pink) hyacinth in Bas de Soie on one arm, and (I’ll call it pink) Carnation by CdG. Pink on a grey day – go on, do some more raining while you’re at it…
That sounds like a wonderful combination.
In anticipation of Friday I’m making this whole week Italian perfume week. Today is Derwish by Aqua Flor. AF is a perfumery in Florence I discovered years ago and returned to this spring when I lived there for 3 months.
I bought lots of perfume in Florence…and shoes. So many shoes.
Good to see you posting Kelly Red!
❤️
I had a dental cleaning today (quite ouchy), came home, and put on some PG Louanges. I like the opening but then it gets on my nerves, so I might wash it off and put something else on in a little while.
I caved and bought a decant of Tobacco Honey. I really do not want to buy a whole bottle, I’m trying not to add more bottles to what is already many, many bottles.
Hope the mouth is recovered now!
And I am sure you are not the only one who caved 🙂
SOTD = Neil Morris at American Perfumer Garden of the Heart of Heaven
Very nice, newest of the new! I suggest reading the review at cafleurebon!

I am usually melancholy on 9/11, having been thisclose to the action but thanking God everyday for keeping me and my sister, other family, friends and colleagues safe. I went in to work super early as I had just returned from vacation and it was probably the reason why I escaped the madness at the World Trade Center. Also, incredibly, the mail I dropped off at the mailbox at the corner of Burger King and Trinity that morning reached its intended destination!
Hugs. For today.
Thank you, jalapeño.
I remember the mail had stopped. I’m surprised your’s made it to its destination.
I’m glad you were safe!
Thank you. I was surprised too.
That is so remarkable about the delivered mail!
It was!
Big hugs to you. ❤️
Your mail story is amazing, and a poignant example of the power of doing one’s job.
9-11. Always remember; never forget.
Back in 2001 I worked in a location that was under part of the final approach to Newark International Airport. I was not as close as hajusuuri was on That Day. But I was close enough to smell the smoke from the Twin Towers.
Been moody all day today.
SOTD = commando, except for Korres Guava Body Butter on my shins.
Hugs, Jalapeño.
Thanks ringthing.
I do remember, and I was thinking of all my NST friends who lived in the NYC area, in Pennsylvania and in our military. I can vividly picture the moment I was heading out of my room for work, and hear Carl Kassell voice as he broke in live with a report from NYC, hesitating about what to say, and in retrospect, it was probably because he was disbelief at what had just happened.
When I first heard what had happened, I didn’t believe it either.
We couldn’t believe it either; we thought it was sight-seeing helicopter that went off-course.
We are moody twins. Hugs to you.
Hugs back atcha.
Sorry about the moodiness.
I figure it’s a given. It’s not really horrible this year, so I am thankful for that. Some years 9-11 really gets to me.
The shorter days are also making me melancholy.
Sending big hugs to you, Jalapeno. ❤️
Thank you She-ra.
I remember being at work in Boston when the news went around about the World Trade Center. Boston has a World Trade Center that’s close to Logan, so I assumed a plane had had an accident and crashed into *that* World Trade Center. We were surrounded by TVs at work for financial news, though, so that was quickly dispelled. Then I called my pilot / crash investigator dad on the West Coast and woke him up to ask him about the probability that it was random (Dad: Not random.)
Turns out my brother-in-law was in the masses walking uptown to get on a train home that day. He’d worked frequently on deals with people in offices in the Twin Towers, though his company’s offices weren’t there.
Hugs to all who are remembering.
It is definitely a bitter-sweet day. It’s my hubby’s birthday, which has been forever changed because of 9/11. Thinking of those who were so close to the events of the day.
I was hearing the song “Bitter Sweet Symphony” a lot on the radio today. September 11 is also the birthday of Richard Ashcroft, who was the lead singer of The Verve.
Happy Birthday to your husband Gail!
It’s been cool and rainy all day here. I spent a lot of the morning watching old news footage and being teary eyed.
R.I.P to those we lost.
I am thunking my decant of Le Lion tonight for work.
That news footage doesn’t get any easier to watch as the years go by.
Excellent perfume pick for tonight!
You know what I was looking for that I couldn’t find? The first episode after of The Daily Show. I remember watching it as it aired and how emotional Jon Stewart was. He’s done a lot of advocating on behalf of survivors.
You smell wonderful and congrats on the thunk.
Thank you!
Big hugs to you, lillyjo.
Hugs back friend.
Oops meant to come by earlier and say I’m in the lovely and easy to wear Mandorlo di Sicilia by Acqua di Parma today.
Today I wore Aqua di Parma bergamotto di Calabria for the CP. It’s fresh and fun but doesn’t last long.
Visited Mom at lunchtime. Today is her birthday and I took some small gifts and cupcakes for everyone. She was extremely sleepy and did not much grasp that is’ her birthday or what that meant. At least she loved and enjoyed her little cupcakes I took for the day.
That’s a hard road to travel, Calypso. Like you said, though, at least your Mom loved and enjoyed the cupcakes.
Hugs.
Happy birthday to your mom!
Happy birthday to your mom and big hugs to you, Calypso! ❤️
Happy birthday to her, so glad she liked her treat.
I’ve been a bit unwell again, with a mild fever and bad aches. Not sure what my body is fighting. And also feeling moody with the 9/11 anniversary and news of Morocco. Sending hugs to all my fellow mood-ies today!
I’m wearing a sample of SMN Fresia. It’s very gentle, musky and soapy, which is what I need today.
I hope you feel better soon!
Ick. Sounds like something is definitely off. Hope you haven’t picked up a virus.
I was moody too…dare I say extra moody! 😉 Hope you feel better soon!
Hope you’re rested and feeling better today, t!
What’s getting to me today is that my students hadn’t been born in 2001. It must be similar to hearing about Pearl Harbor Day (me) vs. having it occur well into your conscious existence (my parents). Everything changes, and if you didn’t experience the “before,” you cannot fully understand the “after.”
Hugs to all the NSTers who were in the thick of things, or who lost friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors.
Sorry…my clicking was off w/ my first reply…. 🙂
Very much agreed…big hugs to you, skalolazka.
I was thinking something similar today.
The comparison that I came up with earlier today was JFK. My parents knew exactly where they were when it happened while for ne it was something out of a history book.
*sigh* Missed the typo. Should have been “me” not “ne”.
Very much agreed…big hugs to you, skalolazka.
