Good morning all-
This morning I made a Viennese coffee-since I am missing the cafe culture there so much. The kids had fun whipping the cream and lucky for me, most of it stayed in the bowl and actually made it to my coffee cup.
No perfume for me but I am wearing Lavande Blanche hand cream I picked up. I tried the perfume for this. It smelled like laundry detergent and last for all of two seconds, so I passed. If I want lavender I will reach for Jersey later today. But the hand cream is very nice.
I am sleeping poorly and feeling rather blah. Post vacation blues maybe.
Sometimes a good body product is all you need! I often wear Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse as a fragrance, especially in the winter when the wind and cold dry things out pretty badly, and I still have a tube of YR Orange Fondant hand cream from a few years back that’ll keep me scented for hours.

Nuxe oil is also a favorite of mine and makes my skin so soft.
I also prefer the coco noir body cream to the actual fragrance. So you are right, sometimes a good body product is all you need!

Drove my doggo to the vet this morning because I found a big patch of angry red skin (and missing hair!) on her tail. There was also a lot of exudate. (Sorry about the details) I suspect her allergies were acting up and it was so itchy that she kept gnawing at her tail through the night. Vet said he’s fully booked until SATURDAY! So I drove her home and dressed the wound myself. Poor thing.😭

I’m wearing MFK 724 because I found a sample in a drawer where I was looking for something else. It’s fine, definitely smells like an MFK fragrance. Won’t need a bottle.
Our air is good again so we have all fans running to air out the house. Sounds like we may have smoke again in a few days so I’ll take a good hike today.

I am very frustrated in my search for a good peach. The ones I’ve found are either hard as a rock or, if ripe, very mushy in texture and unappetizing.
Haven’t had any luck finding tasty peaches where I am at this summer.
I can’t speak for peaches, but this was the worst year for local tomatoes that I can remember. Weather was not right. Would not surprise me if that affected many fruits & veggies.
I found some cherry tomatoes at a farm stand that were all right on Sunday. The ones sold at Costco lately have been bland AF.
Same here…the cherry tomatoes were good, the bigger ones, especially the heirlooms, not so much.

Friends delivered two big grocery bags full of cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes and zucchini from their garden last night. Now I have to figure out what to do with it all!

Girding my loins this morning for yet another 2-hour drive to the orthopedics center, to meet with my surgeon and hear what he has to say about the state of my hip at three months post-op. I’m pretty nervous about potential bad news, but we’ll see. Wearing three spritzes of Malibu Lemon Blossom as a compromise between not wearing fragrance and, you know, wearing fragrance.

Ugh, I’m sympathizing with your poor professor. I think most of us have first day or week anxiety. One of my worst times (apart from the time I got the class days mixed up and totally missed the first day!) was when another professor was in my room and would not budge, even though I was scheduled there too! He had no empathy and just yelled at me. Boy was I steamed.

Smell is mostly back, so I think I’m going to try IA Saint Julep against Nomenclature Minted today. Probably not on CP…can’t really imagine a banana split with mint ice cream. However, I made mint chocolate ice cream last weekend so I could cut my plants back a bit, and it was soo good!

My youngest sister thinks that wearing perfume now that we are grieving my mother’s death is completely insensitive and superfluous. She was very upset when we briefly met yesterday and she could smell whatever was left of the Aerin Cedar Violet I was wearing. I couldn’t even smell it myself anymore. For me perfume wearing has always been of great comfort in the saddest moments of my life. They are just like that little something that helps me feel better everyday. We all have different ways to cope with loss and I truly understand the way she feels about it. I wish she could also understand me.

It hurt a bit how upset she was, but I am trying to understand that. I will continue wearing my perfumes despite her comments.
Every grief is different, and everyone’s grief is different.
I can understand how perfume would be a comfort to you. I can also see how it would upset your sister. A lot of people think of scents as celebratory.
Keep wearing perfume for you, but when you have something planned with your sister, it probably would be nice to skip the scented stuff. Hopefully you won’t have any more unexpected run ins…
I agree that perfume is seen most of the time as celebratory. My youngest sister only wears it on happy special occasions. The younger almost every day in very small amounts. I do not know what their reaction will be if I wear my mother’s Tabu when they are around. I will avoid that for a long time since it will probably be too much for them to handle.

I loved that. Also love that he has a huge grin on his face on the book cover. They were married almost 40 years and you could tell he adored her.

Well, I love the strawberry tea pot and set and also happened to have picked out a strawberry print shirt today before seeing this, so I figured I’d lean into the strawberry-ness of the day with perfume too. I don’t have much with a strawberry note, but I do have and love this one – Solstice Scents Rose Mallow Cream. It’s sweet and lovely, easy to wear, and smells of rosy strawberries and cream. Maybe a strawberry cake with rose syrup? Yum
I am sore in all kinds of weird spots from my upper body and back workout yesterday. I admit to not usually doing a true workout or strength training, preferring to go on brisk walks every evening for exercise. I was at first optimistic yesterday afternoon that our unhealthy, smoky air would be clear enough for me to take a walk in the early evening, but it smelled really bad out there still at 5:30. So I stayed in and my boyfriend made up an upper body and back workout for me. I really liked it! Hopefully I can get myself to stick with it 2 or 3 days a week. But I’m happily planning to walk tonight since the smoke has now cleared out.

I’m in the very lovely Papillon Dryad. My bottle really seems to be emptying more quickly than it should — have any of you experienced evaporation with Papillon’s bottles?
No, but I have with some Tauer bottles. I think the fact that they’re hand-crimped (not in a big factory) sometimes the seal is not 100%.
I have a few Lutens bottles that seem to evaporate a bit. You can prevent it by sealing with parafilm which is a bit of a nuisance as you have to keep resealing after each use.
I was just about to suggest Parafilm but austenfan beat me to it. Do you have any?
I do, and I’ve had it wrapped where the metal of the spray top meets the glass. That doesn’t seem to be helping, and from austenfan’s comment above it sounds like I’d need to be more thorough. Maybe I’ll try electrical tape — it’s very stretchy and might seal the gap better. Or not. 🤪
Maybe putting the entire bottle into a Ziplock freezer bag would help?

In Jersey which bloomed in the slightly higher temps, 25C this afternoon. Tonight I am in Crown Perfumery Crown of gold, a lovely floral, retro but not old fashioned and it reminds me that all my Crown Perfumery purchases have been successes, Stephanotis, Rose and Heliotrope but that one has a problem with the sprayer unfortunately. They all now fetch silly money on eBay but I got them for very reasonable prices back in the day.
I was on the fence about Jersey when I first smelled it-but I am like this about most Chanel fragrances. Now I find Jersey to be easy to wear-great mood lifter-I feel elegant when I wear it.
It has become my favorite exclusif, it’s everything you say and a sleeper of a scent.

And especially not in fragrance, since my skin amps sweet. 🫤 What I think of with the word split is: fragrance split! So, my scents this week will all be ones that I acquired through splits or swaps here.
Yesterday was Violette Fumée, and today is Iris Cendré, from the same lovely swapper. I like them both a lot and could never decide between the two, so maybe this will finally decide me. So far, VF is winning by a nose. (Ha! Pun not intended; I’ve been reading Dick Francis.)
On the other hand, I wonder if they come in travel sizes. 🤔😆

I’ve had a busy past week and feel like I haven’t been here in a while. I spent a lovely long weekend in Asbury Park at my SiL’s apartment while she was out of town. Not all that long ago Asbury was not a particularly desirable city and I’d never think of spending time there except for an occasional show at the Stone Pony. Now both the downtown and boardwalk are packed with great restaurants and cute mom&pop shops and it is hopping! And super walkable. I can see why my SiL loves it. Her dog has very sensitive allergies, so I didn’t wear anything while I was there, and then I had a few days of work things where fragrance is verboten, so I’ve been commando for a while.
I’m diving back in and celebrating the end of our heat wave with Cristalle Eau Verte today. And to go with the lemony note, I’m drinking the last of my Sunshine Lemon tea.

Since I discovered yesterday that there are fragrances with whipped cream notes, I’m wearing one of those today for the CP: Amouage Love Tuberose. Honestly, I can’t actually pick out the whipped cream per se, but it’s generally a kind of frothy sweet scent, so that will do for now.

On another note, I just received this ad from Editions de Parfums for POAL hair mist. Something is definitely lost in translation…head is the warmest part of the body and hair is a powerful scent trap???

Yes, that does sound like something was lost in the translation. I haven’t tried it, but I bet it could really give off a strong scent. Just guessing though. When I wear the regular perfume there are some days I can really smell it and others when it doesn’t seem as strong. I still really love it though!
They say you lose 10% of your body heat through your head, which is why you should wear a hat when it’s cold – maybe they were referring to that? I personally have never been able to smell perfume sprayed in my hair, but it must be a thing since they make all these hair perfumes.
I’m in CSP Vanille Banane layered over an almond lotion. Even added a bit of Oil Perfumery Lost Cherry on my wrists.
I was even able to have a peach so additional points claimed. We have so many peaches to eat (courtesy of my friend). I usually eat them fresh, and my hubby doesn’t really like them so he’s not much help! I may have to give some to our neighbors but we never see them. I tried with my other neighbor but she didn’t want any. Looking up peach recipes for a cobbler or crisp.
Peaches can also make a very tasty salsa. Just saying… 😋

Over the weekend, I stopped by LUSH to see and smell what’s what, specifically targeting the LUSH x Barbie Collection. There were soaps, bath 💣 and shampoo but alas, no body spray. I was told there’s a supply issue. I asked if I can place my name to reserve one and the SA was kind enough to tell me that I should check the website the following day and if I see the item, I can do a pick up instead of having it shipped. Of course I went on line the following day and was overjoyed to see it available but not available for pick up at the store I went to. I ended up ordering anyway and got free shipping for ordering another item…

Smell – it was too fruity and this coming from someone who likes sweet!
I am in diametrical opposition the CP in 1990s Miss Dior. Which I did not immediately love the first few times I wore it. Chose it today to see if it was time to deaccession it, and am now semi-obsessed.

Trying Private Mood Berrylicious today. Notes are Sweet orange, lemon flower, red fruits, blackberry, white rose, vanilla absolute. Kind of smells like Sweetarts so far but slightly more refined. 😉
