It’s Tuesday and National Black Forest Cake Day. Birthdays: Maxim Gorky, Mario Vargas Llosa, Lady Gaga. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm on the outskirts of Paris, in Parfums de Nicolaï Vie de Château, from an absolutely ancient sample that still smells pretty darned good. My tea at the moment is Kusmi Troika.
Reminder: on 3/31, for Eiffel Tower Day, wear a perfume that says Paris to you, or that has Paris in the name, or ?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows items from the Bernardaud Tout Paris collection (we featured the matching teapot last year). A set of 6 salad plates, including the Eiffel Tower shown at left, is $495 at Bloomingdales. A set of 4 Tea Cups & Saucers is $687.
Back in Guerlain, in Chamade edt today. Perfect for spring, with the green edge that I love.
And fits the cp just fine 🙂
Oooooooh, so pretty!
I am in Annick Goutal Heure Exquise. Goutal reminds me of Paris.
I wish i was there having tea in one of the cafés and visiting my favourite perfume places.
That house reminds me of Paris too
I will join you 🙂
Heure Exquise is a lovely pick for early Spring.
Knize Ten, aka Old Spice Leather (or at least what I have is — my bottle is maybe ten years old, and it’s definitely changed since the eighties, when my previous batch was made). It’s not bad, but it isn’t what it used to be.
What is?
Wearing Shalimar this morning, and I wouldn’t mind a slice of Black Forest cake.
Shalimar is always a good idea with cake
It is my absolute favorite cake — when made properly — and I have not made one in years.
I’m in Profumum Alba, over a smidge of Le Dix dusting powder for a hint of Paris. It’s a very, very good pairing — I feel as if a soft and fragrant cloud has enveloped me. For even more Paris, I’m now lemming the Prada Infusion de Figue, another Daniela Andrier scent which sounds absolutely wonderful.
Alba plus Le Dix sounds beautiful!
Good morning!
Wearing my all-time favorite Chanel 1957 today. Comforting elegance in a bottle.
Tea is Black Cask Bourbon by Harney & Sons. Smoky lapsang tea, delicious with a splash of milk.
Last night I wore Chanel Cuir de Russie parfum and Diptyque Fleur de Peau to bed.
Lapsang tea is very good!
You smell wonderful! I must admit, I bought a bottle of the Cuir de Russe parfum this week. Waiting on it to arrive!
Yes!! Do report back when you receive your CdR!
Thanks for your thoughts on the current Egoiste yesterday. Sounds like it is still very much worth sniffing.
Absolutely! Would you like a sample? It’s not always easy to find Egoiste at the beauty counters, I think they only carry them at the Chanel boutiques.
I’m wearing my sample of Indult Reve en Cuir (continuing the CP with houses based in Paris). This is *my* leather. Soft, subtle and a bit sweet, I think it’s beautiful. Cuir de Russie is a close second, with LL Patchouli 24 a third. I’m not sure what notes I sometimes find off-putting in other leathers–castoreum? Birch tar? Sometimes leather fragrances are too smoky/bitter/harsh for my nose.
Meaning that Cuir de Russie is my second favorite, etc. I just realized it might sound like I think they smell alike!
Pretty sure I sniffed LL Patchouli 24 in the past, but I have no scent memory of it.
So many perfumes smelled, and not all of them made it into long term memory, lol.
Le Labo feels the birch tar to me.
Lalibela from Memo Paris
Tea is Earl Grey
Makeup today is dior eyeshadow in tutu
Now that’s a pretty palette.
Ah, I had a sample of Lalibella long ago, and I have a positive recall, but nothing specific about it. What do you like about this scent? Also, Tutu is very pretty!
For the CP, Champs Elysees edt, either 2004 or 2014 version. It’s one of my favorite Guerlains to wear. I appreciate the sophistication of, say, Mitsouko, Jicky, and L’Heure Bleue, but Champs Elysees in any form (or flanker) is more “me.”
Haven’t tried Champs-Elysees, but you’ve certainly hit the nail on the head for this week’s CP. Does it seem fruity-floral or more floral to you?
Fruity-floral – the melon is there, but more in the way a perfectly ripe but not overly ripe honeydew or cantaloupe can smell sweetly floral. I think the almond and sandalwood keep it from being what *I’d* call a sweet perfume; not as sweet as L’Instant for example. It has the same effect on me as Diorissimo – cheerful and nuanced, with a soothing scent bubble around me.
A perfume that “fits” is the best kind, IMO.
Chanel Eau Premiere today. This feels just right for early spring.
you smell beautiful
Thanks ltsg!
SL Iris Silver Mist today. Haven’t had this one out in a while, but it’s spring, so it’s time. A friend bought a bell jar for me when she was in Paris, back when you had to be in Paris to get it.
Oh you smell wonderful! That was the one I picked as well when my friend went to Paris. It was so long ago I think it was barely over €100. How times have changed!
Wot, €100 for a bell jar? Shopping envy
It wasn’t much more than that if I remember right.
I remember those times when bell jars were around 100 euros .
Lucky you, since that’s also when ISM was still ISM 🙂
I’m sure it’s being reformulated as we speak but the Vapo tout noir version smells very very similar to my Palais-era bell jar. I haven’t done a side by side but I didn’t notice a significant change
Oh good. I’ve heard such different things.
Luca Turin savaged it for sure. I was expecting the worst, but I bought two of those travel sprays.
Ugh. I have a half-full bell jar still. That’ll probably be all I ever have…I don’t want to get into reformulations.
Never smelled ISM back in the day, and plenty of people have said that it is not worth sniffing now.
Wearing Hermes 24 Faubourg for the CP. I had not worn it in a long time and I had forgotten what a beautiful scent it is.
Happy Tuesday! 🌻
You smell elegant! Will have to retrieve my bottle before the temps get too warm.
Thank you! Enjoy 24 Faubourg now. Only few more weeks left of cooler temperatures to wear it.
House twin in Caleche. I looked for my bottle of 24 Faubourg after seeing your post but couldn’t find it, but found this instead. (Believe it or not my perfume shelves are somewhat alphabetized, but then after I get one out to use I don’t always put it back in the right place.) Caleche is good but your choice is better!
I have not worn Caleche and Kelly Caleche recently. A good reminder that I need to bring both to the front of the cabinet.
I had my cabinet organized by seasons, but last time I went thru my collection, I decided to do it by brands. I can’t find anything easily now, especially when there are many brands with only one bottle. I think I have to rearrange the whole thing again.
Today was a good day, weather-wise, for 24F. There was a bit of a nip in the air this afternoon, letting us know that the month of March is not done with us yet.
It was partly sunny here today in the upper 40s. However, the afternoon has been windy and a bit uncomfortable. As you said, March is definitely not done with us yet!
Going a second, gentler sniff-off day: L’Attesa and Infusion d’Iris Absolue. I haven’t been wearing the latter very much, but it suits the sunny, cool weather perfectly.
Who wins?
Usually it’s L’Attesa, but today it was a draw!
🙂
Hello all!
I’m in Rive Gauche today, a vintage 80s bottle of EdT. My friend’s mother was cleaning off her vanity and asked me if I wanted anything, so of course I took whatever she wanted to get rid of. This was one of the more exciting of the bottles to me! Just lovely.
Have a great day everyone!
Rive Gauche wins the cp, I think? Although YSL Paris too.
Spending some time in no 5 today and making a Costco shopping list for tomorrow.
Perfect mix.

I keep noticing all the apple trees in the neighbourhood are bursting with ripe fruit. A lot of the trees are fairly old and unkempt, and mostly cooking apples ( peasgood nonsuch) or a few old pippin or cox’s orange. Many are just on grassy strips by the pedestrian stairs that link one hilly street to another, almost as if they’ve grown from apple cores thrown by school kids taking short cuts home. . The people down the road pick their fruit and put it out for anyone to take. A long winded way of getting to today’s perfume Le Jardin sur Le Toit, apples and pears. Video of the gardener for the Hermes garden.
Generous neighbors, I’ve been enjoying local apples so much this year.
Dior Homme Intense today, powdery, and tonight more powder, Lyn Harris, La Poudrée.
Sounds like a perfect segue Aurora!
I’m getting ready to sit down with a nice hot cuppa and consider the larder to decide what’s for lunch/dinner.
Currently in Bois de Iles for its “French ess” but was busy all morning hanging out in the very unFrench Mt St Helen’s area. Went to the visitors center and of course, bought a book about the geology of the area.
Met up with Moby’s new owners yesterday morning and they just are a postcard of Oregonianess! See for yourself! ☺️
https://www.instagram.com/p/CqTceo2PD3d/?igshid=Mzc1MmZhNjY=
They look very happy to continue Moby’s journey, and I am happy for you! I was still waiting for you to report that at one point, one or the other said “this van smells reaally goood!”
Ha, no. They didn’t stick their noses in the “perfume compartment.” And at this point it’s been 4-6 weeks since I moved my little compact collection, so not sure what is lingering, if anything…🙃
I made it a point to get over to Mount St. Helens the last time I was out in WA state. I got a chuckle out of all the “Sasquatch Crossing” signs in the area.
Great picture you posted of Moby and his new people!
Aren’t they adorable?! He called me today because he was having problems figuring out the aftermarket alarm system and accidentally kept setting off the alarm. Super nice folks and I’m very happy they will continue to journey around in him part time. I hope they have many good years. They’re both in their 70’s but pretty fit.
That’s so nice Deva.
I love Mount St. Helens. It’s been a few years (well, more than a few) since I’ve been down that way, thanks to life and COVID. But I still have a warm place in my heart for the fact that it erupted one day after my seventh birthday (and yeah, I was geeky about things like that). And we were abroad but had friends in Seattle who sent us ash.
Wow, that’s amazing! I remember it as well, big news in Illinois (and everywhere else) when I was 15. It seems so surreal now, one of those defining moments in a lifetime. I can’t imagine what it was like for the people within a couple hundred miles of it…🌋
Twins with Deva today in Box of Eels. My butt is still dragging from jet lag, but it’s getting better each day.
Twins! 🙌 Hope you’re back to yourself with another good night or two of sleep. 😴
I may copy you guys tomorrow.
In FM POAL today for a portrait of a lady in Paris🌹🇫🇷
That works!
Feeling better today NSTers. I have noticed that my low moods coincide with nights of terrible sleep. So that is something I will work on for self care.
Had enough metaphoric gas in the tank to do a load of laundry and move all my music from the old computer to the new one, plus take out recyclables and order something for the cats from Chewy.com. There was a bit of swearing involved, because computers. But nothing major.
SOTD = back in No. 19 Poudre. Could have gone with Chanel Coco today, with the mini cool/cold snap here. Oh well, I would smell good either way, right?
Sending a perfumed hug your way – so glad to know you felt at least productive – the cats will be too! 😀 I think Poudre is wonderful – it does make me feel elegant, but in a more comfortable way than No. 19.
Perfumed hugs are very much appreciated!
Chanel = 👍
Glad you were at least somewhat de-funked and got some stuff done!
Thanks! Taking one day at a time.
So glad it was a better day!
Thanks Robin! I will enjoy the good days as they come, and try to weather the bad ones.
SOTD = Serge Lutens Chergui
In the bottle with a white label. Love it 💕! Serge Lutens reminds me of Paris!

I probably should look myself but did Sephora change its qualifier for Rouge? For some reason I thought I got to Rouge in 2022 to qualify for 2023 but the coupons I got today only shows a 15% discount instead of the usual 20%.
Maybe Sephora reduced the percent off on the coupons this year?
This would be terrible!
I’m always just VIB and we’re getting 10% off, which seems normal?
