Yes, it's another Monday, but it's also the first day of Spring and the International Day of Happiness. (Also, the UN French Language Day and Fred McFeely Rogers‘ birthday.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing i Profumi di Firenze Spezie dè Medici, because it just seemed to fit the William Morris stained glass shown above, I couldn't really say why. It's also the perfect fragrance for a chilly first day of spring.
Reminder: 3/24 is William Morris' birthday. Do whatever you like with the theme: match a textile or wallpaper or La Belle Iseult, or choose any motif (wear strawberry for Strawberry Thief, for instance)? Or take inspiration from his London house or garden, now under the care of the National Trust? And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Nowruz Mubarak for those who celebrate. I think its starts today-or maybe tomorrow.
SOTD 51 by Roja Dove
Florals for the CP and spring.
I am a little over 100 pages from finishing The Sheltered Sky. Thanks for the book recommendation
I’m a third in, but savouring the observations and descriptions. Picking up on all the scents and smells.
I’m invited to a party for Nowrooz tomorrow evening! I’ve been before also and it’s so much fun and wonderful food. It’ll be hosted by the people who own a beautiful Oriental rug store. At one point many years ago I took a class in continuing education on Oriental rugs with them and of course one thing led to another and I began to buy some things at their shop….. learning a whole lot along the way. I’m excited to go there tomorrow! (Not to mention that I can browse some beautiful carpets when I’m there! Plus they have a crew of cats there–the kittens somehow appeared there one time about 10 years ago and they now live there full-time and of course have many plush piles of rugs to lounge upon!)
Have fun tomorrow night, calypso!
Capital C…
I just forwarded the invite to you–come meetup with me there if you can! It’s out near the I10-North 610 intersection.
I so wish I could go. And it’s in my neck of the woods, too! Thanks again for the invite.
Ooh, fancy rugs and cats? I would love that store.
ooo! Ado let me know how it goes. I celebrate Nowruz also, even though I am not Persian, but won’t until later this week since I am not feeling motivated
Take photos of the cats and rugs!
LOL, you can be sure I will do so!
I’m wearing French Lover. I wore it yesterday too, and I rarely wear the same scent twice in a row. One of my favorites.
Haven’t smelled it, but love the name 😉
Perfect for UN French Language Day! 🇫🇷
Happy Spring! Sunny day with beautiful blue skies, even though is chilly and windy here.
I will do a week of spring scents and I am starting with Dior Diorissimo, one of my favorite perfumes of the season.
Happy Monday, everyone! 🪻🐇🌻🐣🌷
Happy Spring 🌷
Thank you, Lillyjo! 🌻
Whee, happy spring! We made it!
Thank you, Cazaubon! Winter is finally gone!
Happy spring to you, too! 🌱
Thank you, Ringthing! 🌾
You smell wonderful, pl67! I hope your Monday goes smoothly. 🌸 🌺
Thank you, NancyL! 🌷
Happy Spring! You smell lovely! I’m looking forward to your choices this week.
Thank you, Gail! 🌼
You smell perfect for the first day of Spring!
Thank you, Jalapeno! 🪷
I love Diorissimo! It was my dear sister’s scent back in the day, and I always associate it with her!
Diorissimo is a bright and wonderful classic! I am so glad you can associate your sister with such a wonderful scent!
Spezie de’ Medici is so good! Perfect chilly-weather warmth.
But it’s the first day of spring, and therefore I have to be wearing Yves Rocher Homme Nature, whatever the weather. It’s absolutely the greenest thing I own, an exuberant rush of everything springlike that’s on its way: it’s so good that I don’t even mind the hateful but short-lived cucumber note in the top.
Cucumber is indeed hateful! Glad it doesn’t last.
I adore that scent too, but am very allergic to something in that perfume. It gives me an instant rash. I wish I could find something similar that I could tolerate.
Fleurs de Citronnier today. I hadn’t worn this in ages and I am enjoying it so much. Somehow, Clair de Musc stuck in my mind as my favorite SL musk. But now, I’m not so sure.
FdC is my favorite clean SL musk. On the other end of the spectrum is MKK.
I got a sample of MKK once, and I did not (to my disappointment) get the drama I’d read so much about. Could be a dab vs. spray thing. Also, it was a current version, and I’ve always felt I missed the glory days of SL releases. However, FdC, CcM and good ol’ Kiehl’s seem to be what I want from musk-forward scents.
You smell delightful, I like FdC so much. You inspire me to wear it soon.
The last of all of my packages arrived today and it’s going to be a long while before I get a package in the mail. Doing some budgeting in Lyric today but after my shower, I think that L’heure de Nuit will fit the bill.
Enjoy your goodies, Dawn!
Happy spring! Made it through the cold dark days of winter. It will be up to 9C by Sunday in Montréal! I fly Monday, hope the good weather holds. Wearing Cartier L’Heure Défendue.
Hope the weather holds
Have a safe, smooth and stress-free trip. Good luck!
Happy Spring cazaubon!🌻
Safe travels.
Sending you wishes for safe and easy travels.
Happy Spring, and have a great flight next week!
Have a safe flight next week! So glad your real estate woes are a thing of the past (maybe except for some tax-related things).
Thanks! The tax nightmare will continue for two more years, but I’m happy to be getting settled again, hallelujah.
When I saw this morning’s photo, the first fragrance that popped into my head was Alahiiiine. I think of it as the most baroque scent
I own — admittedly I know next to nothing about art or art history or William Morris design principles so I might be way off using the word “baroque”. I think it was mals86 who said Alahine is all about the florals (despite being an amber bomb), and I have to agree.
I wore Alahiine last week, and you are right, it does match the photo today.
Alahiiiine is gorgeous – I will wear it this week
We have a beautiful sunny day for the first day of spring. I wanted to wear Chanel 19 but it’s chilly and windy so I grabbed White Cube instead. So pretty.
You smell great ringthing!
Wearing Biehl PC01 for the first day of spring. Gloomy rain IS extremely springlike over here, although we are promised sun later in the week.
Ha, we get plenty of gloomy rain too.
Happy Spring, y’all! I’m in Neroli Outrenoir, another one I don’t wear nearly often enough. I have a 10ml goutte bottle that hajusuuri helped me acquire (hat tip to you, ladybug!), but the bottle size is no excuse for hoarding. Wear the good stuff! 🙌
Getting my car serviced in a bit, and picking up some yard eggs from a buddy. Scrambled eggs for dinner tonight! 🍳🥯
Yes to wearing the good stuff!
I’m on my third application today, so I’m happily reeking.
Fresh eggs are the best!
So very true. 😋
One of my cousins used to call me “ladybug” when I was little. Thanks for reminding me of her today.
Aww, you’re welcome. ☺️
I should wear mine! Neroli Outrenoir is gorgeous.
There’s nothing quite like it.
Egg twins for dinner! 🍳🍳
Enjoy your cackleberry, pl67!
I just realized that the beautiful gift wrapping paper that Mr. allo bought me a number of years ago and that I’ve used to decorate my “perfume fort” is a William Morris design! So I’m going with inspiration this week from these beautiful flowered papers.
First up, Jasmine, and I’m in Perris de Monte Carlo Pays de Jasmin for a heady spring welcome.
The strong room wears William Morris well!
🌸🌸🌸
Pays de Jasmin is gorgeous!!
Rained off and on all night and I’m sure we haven’t seen the end of it. I really enjoyed those two days we had of sparkling sunshine and luxurious warmth. Now it’s back to reality because they’re predicting snow Thursday…😐
We spent the weekend at a very lovely community park right on the Columbia River. 90% of the folks left yesterday morning so I’ve been all by lonesome since then at the end of the park and I’m quite happy with that. It’s always a toss-up on who your neighbors will be and there’s no privacy down in the beach area here. They do have sites up in the trees, but we wanted easy beach access.
I want to wear something spring-y today to encourage some moderate warmth and mostly sunny skies. Maybe BF Au Dela..? Still finishing my coffee then will get crack-a-lackin’…
It sounds like you had a great weekend. I hope the snow decides to skip you!
So they say it’s spring today, but it’s still mighty chilly in the Midwest. I don’t think we are going to see above freezing today. Oh, well I still rearranged my closet with my spring/summer clothes. Does anyone else do this? I suppose that means I should change to my spring/summer perfumes.
SOTD will be VCA Bois D’ Iris. This can go with any season 😊
You smell great💕
Thank you dear friend!
You smell wonderful! I am going to start wearing all my spring perfumes, unless we have a very, very cold, winterlike day again.
Thank you PL67. Unfortunately, this week looks like it is going to be in the 30’s most of the week so I think I will stay with my current perfumes. Maybe next week I will get out the spring scents.
I do rearrange my closet seasonally but haven’t done so yet.
Glad I am not the only one.
I have to rotate my closet contents seasonally because my closet is too small 🙂

I’m going to do a week of William Morris. I have never been to Red House, in London, designed by Morris and his home for a short while (1860-65, a sad ending) before moving on to Kelmscott later, in the 1870s. It’s a mix of arts and craft with medieval flourishes and a beautiful garden. It’s not at all formal, or symmetrical, in design …it was meant to be functional, so Morris’ bedroom had one small window as he was there at night only ( I didn’t know any of this)…I think it’s a beautiful, personal design, not status-driven, using modest brick and probably lingering wood-smoke (looking at the fireplace) . I am pairing with Chypre Mousse , as that is what I own, and it is peaceful and interior smelling. Stormy here and freezing cold. And dark.

The art and decorations in the house
Sorry about all the posts
I will add one I read last night, from The Guardian
“Garden of earthly delights”
https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2003/jul/26/art.architecture
That’s a great article, thank you.
I went to the site yesterday from Robin’s intro to the CP. That said, I still don’t know why it’s called the Red House as I did not see anything particularly red inside or out.
It is called Red House because of the brick.
“Whereas most fashionable villas of the period were finished in stucco, Morris’ new home was built of exposed brick that inspired its name “Red House.””
https://www.archdaily.com/873077/ad-classics-red-house-arts-crafts-william-morris-philip-webb
It’s the only house he ever built (or had built, to be more exact).
Guerlain L’Initial
Smelling great, Barqs!
Thanks !
Happy spring for all the people in the northern hemisphere. We had a wildly wet and windy night, but it’s a lot calmer this morning. One of my team is flying in this morning, up from Dunedin where Kanuka has been experiencing horrible weather. I was a bit anxious she wouldn’t make, but her plane is on time.
I’m wearing FM’s Noir Épices for no particular reason, it just leapt to mind this morning.
Thank you Gaynor!
Glad your team member made it ok.
We’re having cold weather for spring here in Houston–unusual for us but it’s sure to warm up soon. I am worrying about the tiny baby lemons on my tree out on the porch. Hope they make it. Seems that a lot of blossoms make little fruits but then fall off, disappointing.
My SOTD is Grandiflora Boronia, which I think is good for spring and for the CP. I also love William Morris prints and designs. I’ve got some pictures from the William Morris Cafe at the V&A in London and might post a couple on Instagram; they’re from a visit there in 2015. I especially love his tile designs. He was good friends with William de Morgan whose tiles and pottery I love even more–it’s so stunningly gorgeous. And he was very innovative with glazes.
Well it turns out I had my facts confused about that cafe. William Morris was ONE Of the designers of ONE room there. You can read all about the first museum cafe (anywhere!) here: https://www.vam.ac.uk/articles/a-first-of-its-kind-history-of-the-refreshment-rooms.
He didn’t do the room with tiles, though it’s certainly in his spirit. It’s called the Pointer Room and you can see pictures of it at the site above.
Wow, I love the Morris room so much. Thanks for sharing!
Yes, the green room. I hate that shade of green but it was apparently his favorite interior color, he thought it was restful.
Love the CP because I live in the borough where William Morris was born, the quite grand Georgian building is now the WM Gallery.
It was grey today but mild and I wore Aromatics Elixir and tonight Cacharel Noa, a favorite light musk
Your perfumes went from one extreme to the other today!
😀 Yes, AE was it’s usual nuclear self but in spite of being such a light scent Noa is quite persistent.
Ah, then you are near that big mural of him? I might post that this week if I can find a good shot.
I’ve never seen the mural in person although I’ve been to the gallery many times, so it must be quite new. WM is definitely our most famous resident.
The gallery looks lovely too.
It’s a chilly, sunny day. I chose Earth Mother and am very happy that I did – it’s a great cool weather scent and our weather is supposed to warm up a lot by Friday.
I spent a lot of time looking at William Morris patterns this morning. They are gorgeous!! I’m looking forward to people’s pairings, and pondering my own.
House twins today!
I chose to wear Nightingale today. And then when I did a search, I spotted a William Morris design called Jungle Nightingale. It’s hard to tell if he really designed this though, I’m only seeing commercial products with it. At any rate, I also discovered the V&A webpage with Morris’ textile designs, and it is pure eye candy!
Off to the grocery store before I pick up my son from school. We’re expecting another atmospheric river storm coming through tonight and tomorrow, so I will want to avoid any extra driving tomorrow.
Since I was literally looking at the V&A website just now, when I read your post here I looked for the textiles page and here’s a link to it. What fun! https://www.vam.ac.uk/articles/willam-morris-textiles
Beautyhabit has some William Morris reusable cups!
I’ve been chopping and cooking all day – homemade pico de gallo, salad, vegetarian enchiladas and salted butter chocolate chunk shortbread cookies for dinner for seven people tonight. Whew, I’m out of practice for cooking for all these people, but I’m looking forward to it. Time to shower and then back at it. I’ll be wearing VC&A Bois d’Iris.
Wow, what a spread! 😮
Scent twins!
Pico is one of the basic food groups!
Happy Spring to the NSTers in the Northern Hemisphere! IDK if the folks in the Southern Hemisphere are as excited about the start of Autumn.
It’s a bright sunny and temperate day here. Even feels like Spring. A very nice contrast to yesterday’s last blast of Winter. 💐🌸🌹🌺🌻🌼🌷🌞🌈
SOTD = Dame Mate, Heliotrope and Patchouli. The heliotrope makes this one a good match for Spring, and that seems to be the dominant note in this perfume to my nose.
Happy Spring Jalapeno!🌞
Hey did you see Rick Allen was physically attacked by some guy in Florida? I just heard about it, but I guess he is recovering now.
No, I didn’t hear a peep about that. But, Florida.
Spring has sprung. I saw that the official time it turned into Spring was at 5:24pm Eastern, but what do I know?
I saw that too. I was up at 6am though doing a happy Spring dance. Lol.
The local newscasts went nuts with that information…
47 and cloudy here but it is Spring! Woo-hoo! Of course the weather team here had to remind me of all the perilous weather that Spring could bring. They want to make sure to keep up those ratings. Lol.
I chose to wear Jessica McClintock to celebrate the day. A Spring perfume for sure. 🌷🌻🐇🌞😊🥳
I love Jessica McClintok! You, as you often do, smell wonderful! 🙂 I always think JM is like one of my other sentimental and Spring-like favorites, Diorissimo!
Thank you!. I will probably wear Diorissimo this week. JM is my favorite LOTV.
I don’t even know how it smells but knowing you, you smell great. I think this was floragal’s “signature scent” for the hubby. We haven’t seen her for a while although she may have posted something above; I am reading from the bottom up.
I believe you are correct about floragal.
The mention of Jessica McClintock takes me back to my high school days.
I wore JM in late high school/early college days too.
I am wearing vintage Givenchy l’interdit inspired by the Tristan Iseut’s impossible love to welcome Spring.
Perfect!
SOTD = Gucci Voice of the Snake
I always like to use “snek” but it looks very wrong for the name!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CqBysMsu9_G/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
I finally got my CD opened today. I will be taking my money out as soon as this CD matures (in a year) and closing out all my accounts. HSBC does not have much of a retail presence anymore in the U.S., having sold the branches. I got a good rate and that’s the only positive thing about my experience.
The mini owls are adorable!
Definitely will avoid HSBC after your experience.
Spring?? What?! Where!?? 30s last night around Charleston (!) so I wrapped up in Maison Margiela By the Fireplace. I smell like a cozy Christmas elf. Hope to bust out springy things later this week when temps jump back to a reasonable level.
That is cold for your area!
Stay cozy!
