Monday scent of the day 3/13

Posted by Robin on 13 March 2023 109 Comments

Another Monday, National Ken Day, and 7 more days of winter to go. RIP Kenzaburo Oe. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm trying out Fzotic Poof!

Reminder: on 3/17, wear green for St Patrick's Day. (This is a repeat, probably many times over.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

7 more long days, I can’t wait for Spring!
I am really happy that Brendan Fraser won the Best Actor Oscar. Does anyone know why the statue looks different? This is the first time I have paid attention to it in years.
I am accidentally doing the cp today. I am wearing No.19 edp for winter driving strength. 🌞🌻

So much for our 80 degrees by St Patrick’s day. At this point I’d be happy with 50!

Yeah, it’s winding down now. I hear high 40’s and rain on Friday but back to snow on Saturday. This spring better be phenomenal! Lol.

I was shocked to hear Brendan Fraser’s name last night. I thought that he had quit acting. Fwiw, I enjoyed watching him in “George of the Jungle” and “The Mummy” ages ago.

I’m not trying for a whole week of green (I’m not even sure I could), but today I’m in the green-tuberose-and-leather Vierges et Toreros by Etat Libre d’Orange, which I can see was a mistake: it’s quite strange (the tuberose is minty, the leather is meaty), on the Sécrétions Magnifiques end of their weirdness scale, well on its way towards unwearability. I don’t hate it, but I’m not in the mood. It’s going to be showered off pretty soon and replaced with something presentable: I’m thinking Guerlain Terracotta Voile d’Ete, pretty much the polar opposite of whatever this is.

I think most of my green scents are for spring and summer. Green is one of my favorite categories and since spring is just…. hours away, I will be happily wearing my greens!

I pulled Granville from my mini box today. For some reason it is presenting a very medicinal smell on my skin. Usually it is piney and aromatic, but today it smells like a topical medicine.

When I had a decant of Granville, I mostly got pine and citrus. You don’t smell too many perfumes with pine as a dominant note.

Another gray and chilly Monday. Waiting for tonight’s atmospheric river (hate that phrase) to hit. It’ll be with us until Wednesday morning, they say. Will the power stay on? Anyone care to bet?

Most of my green scents are packed away til summer, but I’ll see if I can find one later this week. Today, though, we continue with ‘cozy’ since we continue with winter (boo). SOTD is CBIHP Ambrosius. Well that’s the plan, anyway, but first I have to find it…

Good morning fragrant friends. Today I’m in the office and wearing Tam Dao for this grey, drizzly day. What a lovely comfort scent! I shall have to wear this more often.

I shall have to think about the green scents in my collection. Chanel No. 19 shall be the obvious pick, but my little mini of Cristalle EDT is also calling my name. I’ve also started wearing my precious bottle of Amaranthine which is green, sappy and oddly creamy in a way that can be off-putting at first. Like Coromandel, I struggled with Amaranthine from the start, but can’t stop coming back to it because it is so curious.

Agreed, it is so easy to wear! Do you prefer the EDT or the EDP? I only have the EDP currently and enjoy it enough to be curious about the EDT.

I love the edt, but I feel like it doesn’t last that long. Although I have gotten compliments hours after I can no longer smell it.

Robin — any quick takes on Poof? I have the sample in my cart, with some other stuff, but haven’t yet pulled the trigger.

Daylight savings is kicking my butt this morning. Don’t have to get the kid to school so let my spouse deal with the alarm since he has to go in, and didn’t realize that I’d slept until 8. Ugh.

Green…hmm, not a huge component of my collection, but I think I’ll pull out CBIHP Memory of Kindness today. Good reminder that I should be starting tomatoes inside right now…

It is remarkably close to the description…starts as a very airy / springlike floral, tuberose & cassie most noticeable, there is a touch of apple or something watery/fruity in the opening but it does not bother me (and doesn’t hang around in any case), mild slightly powdery base that gets a bit denser as it dries down, so less airy as it wears but it is not a heavy scent.

Very enjoyable to wear but have not decided if I love it, going to try again later in the week with a heavier cream base and see if I can make the opening last longer.

I’ll go ahead and pull the trigger on that sample…sounds like it could be interesting for spring. It’s just always more of a slog to order it here, because for a $5 sample I have to drive down to the local U.S. exclave and pay them $4.50 in receiving charges. (At least I get cheap U.S. gas when I’m there.)

Wearing Goutal’s Myrrh Ardente today-body lotion and EDP. God I love their scents.

I loved Gucci Envy for so long-when it was on for very little $$ I bought quite a few gift sets at Shoppers and gave them away-kicking myself now. the green scents seem difficult on my skin-just a genre that doesn’t seem to suit me. I had a sample of Synthetic Jungle and it was gorgeous-just not for me.

People are saying we’re supposed to get 100 cm of snow Tues night-not sure that’s correct lol. One more chance to buy storm chips and stay in – but I always have to work regardless of the snow. So hopefully it blows out to sea. I’m praying for an early and unseasonably warm spring.

I’m in Hermès Jardin Mediterranee, or however you spell it, for green. This will likely be my sotw as I try to use up and thunk my decant.
I had a productive Saturday. Went through my closet in anticipation of spring and did another clean out. Took about a dozen things to the consignment shop and a dozen more will go to goodwill. Feels good. Part of the charm😉 of owning an older home is small closets. I would like to make the most of the space we do have, and I’m looking at the Elfa system from the container store. The 4’ system would fit almost perfectly and I’m having fun with the online configuring tool. I believe Pixel has one of these closet systems? Any feedback anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Yes! I have Elfa systems in two closets. One thing to keep an eye on with their on-line and in-store systems: they automatically add a lot of fiddly bits that you don’t really need, that drive the price way up. Think about: if you buy the wire shelves, do you need the solid plastic insert? It may be cheaper to just buy solid shelves if solid is what you want. And do you really need frou frou covers for the shelf brackets? or fancy shelf edges? One bit they don’t add which I do recommend: wall clips to screw the bottoms of the vertical hanging rails to the wall.

Left over Hermès Vetiver Tonka this morning. Will switch it up later, probably to Bengale Rouge, but was also thinking of Chinchilla by DSH…

More non-stop #%*|¥€& rain here. Can’t even get five free minutes to walk the dog. I guess it’s better than non-stop snow, but still SO over it. 😭

I’ve got some greens but not feeling it right now. Also not happy with where my perfume collection is at the moment, so I’m brainstorming (no, I’m really not. More like occasionally passively contemplating.) trying to think of another place to store them.

And in Baby T news, she was finally able to do her extreme downward doggo stretch this morning without yelping or any other sign of discomfort. Her tail wagged the whole time and my poor little heart is so happy she’s not hurting anymore. Still lifting her up and down to the bed, which she hates, but she’s managing the steps in and out of the camper well as long as she actually USES them rather than flying up and down off the bumper. I’m having to to put a treat on each step so she slowly makes her way up and down and touches her paws on each step. Continuing her meds until they’re gone to prevent any return of the Bad JuJu.

Hope everyone’s downward dog is pain free this beleaguered Monday! 😉

SOTD is Cloon Keen Roísín Dubh, which I guess I could argue is green by association (roses have petals, etc.), but certainly has no green notes that I can detect. I have been wearing this one a lot, and I’m really happy that this is what I chose to bring back from Ireland.

Major work event is over, and was a success! Thanks, everyone, for your good wishes last week. It is gray and drizzly here, and we are being warned to expect piles of snow tomorrow. It would be nice to have one real snowfall this winter, but I am so ready for spring.

Scent: Oriza L. Legrand’s Deja Le Printemps, which is a celebration of spring, very green, and I enjoy it. I’m working from a sample, and I don’t get a lot of longevity from it, which is a shame. I have scent-eating skin, though, so my experience shouldn’t be counted against it.

I’m excited about the CP this week. I enjoy some green perfumes, so it will be fun to see what people come up with.

Winter is back in our neck of the woods, with a few snowflakes drifting around and some chance of more. But I went to the garden center and got some pansies anyway. Undina’s Looking Glass had a Saturday Question, asking which brands her readers have enough non-sample amounts of for a week’s worth of wearing. I am inspired to do a week of Guerlain. Yesterday was LPRN So Frenchy edp – a happy, silly movie night scent (Zoolander, anyone?) Today I try a recent find, L’Heure Bleue parfum. I am drawn in by it, but I am not feeling love. I am feeling more for it than I have for the edt or edp which I got because of fire sale prices on FragranceNet a few years ago. I haven’t checked, but I think this parfum, which is a cigarette case refill, is from 2009.

Today, FINALLY, is the first day it has really felt like spring around us (as it seems to be for some of you!). This has been the coldest, wettest March I can ever remember in my part of the Bay Area; usually, spring seems to come in mid February for us. But here we are, a month late. I am quite un-green in Venenum. It’s as beautiful as always, but honestly, the air is a bit soggy for this scent.

Wow, sounds like it! Hope it all goes well.

We are tentatively planning another try for Montreal at the end of May, hopefully we will make it and I will get in touch :-)

I think I can do a week of green, so I’m starting with Vero Profumo Mito, one of my all-time favourites. It’s definitely autumn here now, and today is starting very crisp and clear. Fingers crossed it stays clear and we get a sunny day.

Wearing a sample of Miller Harris Myrica Muse today and it is not what I expected. I get the red fruity notes, the indistinct floral note, a bit of rum, a bit of patchouli and clean musk, but I was expected sparkly, or at least a tart, note to give it some lift, and it is just not there. It is pretty if a bit lackluster. Seems like MH’s version of a Coco Mademoiselle type frag.

Tea today is Upton Pumpkin Chai courtesy of the generous AnnE and her surprise tea care package.

I finished Frances Burney’s Evalina over the weekend and I recommend it for Jane Austen fans. It is epistolary, and worked quite well as an audiobook.

March 13 is Commonwealth Day, for the more than 2.6 billion people who are historically linked through being a British colony. I didn’t see a mention of it in the news here yesterday and it’s not really something I celebrate. But wearing Goldfield and Banks Silky Woods in recognition of Captain Cook’s voyages.

Gala apples are delicious! I am enjoying a new (to me) variety called Pazazz. Worth it if you can find them.

First Monday after the change to Daylight Savings *and* it’s rainy. There’s a Wind Advisory for tonight, too. Bletch! Not a fan.
