It's Hump Day and Singles Awareness Day. Also, World Hippo Day, National Flag of Canada Day, Susan B Anthony Day and ENIAC Day. Birthdays: Galileo Galilei, Ernest Shackleton, Miep Gies. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am (still) doing imaginary textile matching, since I'm on a beach vacation and will likely be commando 80% of the time and in Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum for the other 20%. Today I'm pretending to scent silk, and I'm going with Prada Infusion d'Iris Absolue.
Reminder: 2/17 will be Textile Friday...wear a perfume that makes you think of a textile–linen, silk, raw silk, velvet, corduroy, damask, wool poplin, cashmere, polyester, swimsuit fabric, etc. Suggested by Oakland Fresca.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows detail from a Prada silk top, currently marked down from $1,459 to $475 at Yoox.
I’m wearing Amouage Interlude, it smells wonderful. I would pair it with a golden brown, sherpa lined jacket, if I had one.
May I vent a little? Mr ringthing missed his therapy appt, decided to drive and can’t believe how swollen his leg is, and says it’s because he’s been eating dairy (??) Meanwhile my mom has a backache and has decided it’s cancer (?? maybe arthritis?) I’m over both of them!
My sympathies to you with Mister and mom. 🙂 Interesting to observe peoples’ thought processes. At least you smell great! Interlude smells like ginger ale on me.
I am sorry you are going through this with hubby and mom, but as a retired nurse, I found it hilarious 😆
It is hilarious! Thank goodness for a sense of humor!
oh my!
you have a great sense of humor!! We need it to deal with family members aches and pains.
Oof. What a headache for you.
Oh this had me chuckling, and I can relate! I have a couple of in-laws who subscribe to the same vein of reasoning.
Awwww ringthing I’m sorry <3 But good for you for being able to laugh about it!
Oh geez! I can see Mr. Jalapeno doing something foolish like that.
National flag of Canada day, eh? Never heard of it. I’m in sync with 4160 Tuesdays Raw Silk and Red Roses.
Flag Day is pretty much ignored in most of the US too, I think.
Did you enjoy the ode to Canada Super Bowl ad?
I didn’t watch the game, missed it.
“Thank You Canada”, courtesy of Dave Grohl:
https://youtu.be/VUGACNfgpu4
I had missed that one, thank you Jalapeno! I am ashamed to admit I don’t adore his music, but I do adore Dave Grohl.
He looks like he is having SO much fun in this video!
Every so often I get a truly awesome recommendation from the algorithms at YouTube. This was one of them.
Cute, thanks!
Very much in the mood today for the refined weirdness of SL Chypre Rouge.
Hope the day is refined and weird to match, pyramus.
Oh you smell great! I regret not getting Chypre Rouge back in the day.
That is a beautiful Prada top design. I am wearing Annick Goutal Vanille exquise.
I love that fabric too.
I’m in L’eau de Hiver, as we finish shovelling from yesterday’s storm, which was less bad than I expected. Nonetheless-bring on a beautiful warm spring, please!
Hope everyone has a good day 🙂 Love the Prada top.
Ugh to shovelling! Glad it could have been worse.
Sending spring vibes your way!
Pleased to hear that you didn’t get a huge wallop of snow from the storm!
I wasn’t planning on doing the CP this week, but I think I can today as I am wearing FM Iris Poudre. I believe someone the other day described it as a silk scarf. Perfect description!
Yay for the idea that iris = silk. Am set up for the week then!
Good for you!
House TWINS!
Yay!
Smelling lovely, Kris!
Thank you 😊
Perfume twins! I too am in Iris Poudre 🙂 Cool and silky!
Yay! We smell wonderful!
I pulled Baiser Vole from my mini stash today. I’m having a bit of an upset tummy today (sinus drainage) so it is too sweet for me. Although it has been (a few) years since I’ve worn it, I know that I liked it previously.
Hope you are feeling better soon, PriscillaE.
I hope your tummy settles down soon.
Sorry that you are having some GI upset.
Reviewed Epic 56 this morning and I am going to have to be content with having the original Epic. Still in no 5 but will be getting in the shower soon. After my shower, Lyric will be my SOTD.
A 3 perfume day, excellent.
As Robin tipped me off that today’s image was green silk, I wore Nuit de Longchamp by Lubin, a smooth green chypre that reminds me of pale green silk.
Perfect!
SotD SJP Covet, which mostly evokes for me a long-lost, dusky red, course muslin pullover blouse with an embroidered yoke including little mirrors. A beautiful sunny and windy day. The wind is blowing us another cold front. But I opened the windows to get some fresh air in the house. Some birds are singing a little.
Love your memory of muslin. Glad you have sun and birds!
Love the description, I can almost smell it <3
Ciao to all!
Sorry I haven’t got a chance to respond to your questions and comments. I have been beyond busy volunteering at the library.
POAL for velvet
I know this perfume is a beast but I don’t seem to smell it on me. I know it’s there, I am sure. Maybe it’s been reformulated. I maybe I am use to it. Strange. It’s not cheap and I want a trail of scent.
It’s a beautiful day here..making up a list of errands so I can get outside.
I love POAL too. Funny you have that reaction to it as I kind of did too. It was enormous the first time I tried it and has seemed to dwindle ever since I have used it. Maybe we need to overspray and see if that works. I think I will try on Friday.
Ok, glad I am not alone 🧀
Maybe it’s overloading your olfactory receptors? That can happen.
You could be right
You may need 8 sprays 🤣
Ok, I will try this
I was thinking of you. That’s why I said overspray. 8 would be overspray to me. I do that many with L’eau though.
Maybe spray a bit of POaL on a piece of paper and leave it in a room that you aren’t in? Then return sometime later to see if you can smell it.
Ok. Will do and report back tomorrow
Wearing Eau de Dagg and just remembering how common spinning was when I was younger. There always seemed to be a spinning wheel and a pile of fleece and balls of wool in houses, and the smell of oily, natural wool. And homespun jumpers, scratchy but so long wearing and sweetly scented. I don’t even see homespun jumpers in op-shops any more, nor guernseys. Nor farisle. But I did find a great Icelandic black and white jumper a while back. Warm here but so dark in the mornings now. I’ve tried several times this week to spot the green comet ( near Mars) but even with binoculars I can’t find it. Can see Taurus and Matariki ( Pleiades) though. Might take up spinning, I bet it’s very calming.
That’s fascinating. I’ve never seen a spinning wheel in action, but there were few sheep where I’m from. Home grown purple popcorn, yes.
I was taught to spin by my best friends mother. There was a definite knack and it used to make my fingers ache but also smell good. We used teasel (plant ) to comb the bits of straw, twigs from the fleeces
https://www.plantlife.org.uk/uk/discover-wild-plants-nature/plant-fungi-species/teasel
https://blog.metmuseum.org/cloistersgardens/2009/10/16/two-teasels/
A nice piece about teasel in the Cloisters museum
I’ve driven past the Cloisters Museum several times and never had the chance to stop and explore. Was headed off to other destinations.
The smell of fresh spun wool is so unique. I would love to smell it again.
Scant traces of Safran Troublant on my fleece.
Still in the process of moving and geez, what a mess! Plus, the massive order I made on Amazon was duplicated for some reason and now I have two of everything, which will have to be sent back. Only drop off point is over the Megler-Astoria Bridge so I’ll once again have to white knuckle it over that behemoth some time this week, only in the truck and camper which is wider than the van.😅 Perfumes are mostly moved, have thinned the herd but they aren’t really organized at this point. There are huge storage areas on each side of the bed, so I’ve placed them along one side. They are within easy reach and well insulated by the mattress on one side and the insulated fiberglass on the other, all ensconced in an enclosed wooded storage area. They are out of the way and safe from emergency stops, turns, and bumps.
Now for the rest of the stuff…😅
Keep smelling fab all you fragrant folk!
Does this mean you now have more room for … ummm … more perfumes?
Shhh! 🤫
As long as the fragrances are secured in their proper place… the rest will figure itself out! 🤣
Good luck with the bridge crossing, I hope the winds cooperate.
Thanks!
Good luck on the drive and the returns.
Thanks!
Oy vey! Good luck with that white knuckle bridge ride! 🍀🍀🍀
Thanks, I need all the support I can get with that thing. 🌉
Wait, are the duplicates Amazon’s screw up? If so call their customer service line and tell them you are not going to drop the duplicates off and that they need to schedule a pick up for the items at where ever your are. You shouldn’t have to spend your time and gas making the return more convenient and less expensive for them. Whenever I have this issue with Amazon, they either agree to do the pick up, or tell me to just keep the items for free, in which case yay duplicates/free giveaways.
I think it was a misunderstanding and not really anyone’s fault. When I originally placed the order it was declined because I used a new card and the mailing address was incorrect. Finally straightened that out with Amazon customer assistance. They said give it 24 hours and place the order, which I did. Went through fine, but the previous order that was declined ALSO went through. I didn’t even realize until I started getting duplicate items. 🤷🏻♀️
Just another unusual artist from that antique blog, The Happiest Cow — a Philadelphian interpreting “White trash” literally 😸 :
https://thehappiestcow.wordpress.com/2012/06/27/t-rex-trying/
I’m trying a sample of Masque Milano Kintsugi but not in the mood for it. It might be a good masculine. Has anyone else tried it?
I have not, but thanks for the art!
I haven’t that that MM fragrance either, sorry.
I sprayed OJ Damask on my ankles only, too chilly for this spring/summer scent.
Going to get taxes done. WIsh me luck!
On your ankles!?! 🙂
World Hippo Day! I kind of really loved the hippos we saw in Zambia last summer. There was something comforting about their deep booming honks at each other. (But…they can be mean: A hippo fight woke us up one night. Apparently their fights can be protracted and bloody.)
SotD is Mem. I think maybe this would go with a gossamer lavender silk…it’s not a “light” perfume, I suppose, but it does seem to float somehow.
I’ve heard that more people are killed by hippos than crocodiles in Africa. Go figure!
It’s just fantastic early spring here and it’s supposed to be close to 80 tomorrow! We’ll drop back i to the 50s for the weekend but I am excited.
My SOTD is Las Flores by Provision Scents. I would pair this with white cotton (if the cotton was in a sundress and the sundress was being worn in Malibu).
How lovely, sistine! Enjoy the quick summer weather.
Robin, your pretend SOTD matches today’s image perfectly, I love them both. I hope you are enjoying the beach thoroughly.
I’ve got a cheeky pairing for today, Radio Bombay and polyester! Both super synthetic. I can appreciate Radio Bombay, I’m not as nose blind to it as I am to some other Iso E Super scents like Molecule 01.
😆 that is a nice pairing
We are having a great time, and eating & drinking well, and getting plenty of sun, thanks!
And kudos, that really is a great pairing.
SOTD is reminiscent of cool silk and freshly laundered cotton.
I am layering 1957 with Iris Poudre to give it a bit more coziness. Iris Poudre is sometimes almost too cool and elegant, whereas 1957 is the smell of soft comfort.
The combination is working a treat for me today!
I may have to try this!
Smoothie is clementines and yogurt
Chose vintage Calandre today, it is often compared to Rive Gauche but is warmer and sweeter imo, love them both deadly; tonight it’s Missoni Gianduia, I’m yet to smell a better chocolate perfume.
*dearly
I’ve been lucky enough to try Gianduia truffles. So delicious! 😋
I’ve been mostly commando the last while so have not been reporting in. I have been reading the comments late at night to see everyone’s sotd, just so I can keep up!
We’ve also been so busy with the condo sale for showings, cleaning up (again) and all the related fun things that go with selling a property. Very surprised at how many people came in person to view it! We accepted an offer on the weekend. Will be heading back home early March but will take our time as the roads may get a bit hairy as we head north.
Before we go back we will see a preseason baseball game between the Detroit Tigers and the Baltimore Orioles. Looking forward to that!
Congrats on accepting the condo sale offer!!!
Thank you, Koyel!
Wow, that didn’t take long! Congratulations!
It sure didn’t! Thank you! 😊
I’m happy for you that all went so smoothly, but I hope you’ll still be visiting the “Sunshine State” on a regular basis! Ha, and maybe you should hang out until after NST’s swap meet in April 😀
We still have a few hurdles, the inspection is tomorrow. So far so good though. Touch wood! (knocking my noggin!)
We will still definitely visit, maybe rent back here next year; met so many great owners this time. We also plan on exploring on the way home, maybe spend a day or 2 near the Gulf Coast!
Sadly, we do have to get back so I will miss out on the next swap!
Congrats on accepting an offer for the condo! That preseason game sounds fun. I have always liked seeing minor league games because the crowds seem more relaxed than at major league games (although that may have more to do with the Yankees and Mets crowds than with the leagues). Are preseason games more relaxed too?
Thank you, Vee! I’ve been to one other spring training game a few years ago; it was so fun! They are played at small stadiums and there’s no bad seat in the house. Everyone seems to have a good time.
Congratulations on the pending sale and Go Tigers!
Thanks lillyjo! I was thinking the Tigers were your team; I’ll cheer extra loud for you!
Wishing you a smooth transaction with the condo! I’ll be heading north myself near the end of March.
Thank you, cazaubon! Here’s to safe a journey home for both of us. Are you flying or driving back?
Mila and I will be flying. DH will be following in the camper in May, when the roads are all clear.
SOTD is Dior’s New Look 1947, for textiles!
Nice!
Great choice!
I chose Atelier Lemon Island today, mostly just because I felt like smelling like lemon cake, but I think it would match a gauzy beach cover-up.
This week is dragging, but the weather is gorgeous!
Gauzy beach cover-up is my outfit for the week! Plus, lemon cake, yum.
That sounds ideal. Enjoy your trip!
I’m in Volutes EDP today and smelling good even though I think it did exacerbate some sinus irritation. But maybe any perfume would have. 🤷
Yesterday I wore Love by Kilian cause Valentine’s Day. I’m not really one who celebrates VDay, but I do love a theme with my perfume. I’ve had my decant of Love since the MakeupAlley days, and I’m down to about a ml left. I think it’s lasted so long because a) it’s strong and has gotten stronger over the years and b) it’s a rollerball so it’s easy to apply a little at a time. I’ll be curious to smell the current versions of Love and Love Extreme once my decant is gone.
I love perfumes that age stronger and darker. It’s such a disappointment when a little used bottle loses it’s scent.
I totally agree! And Love aged so well without having any of that oil separation that can happen to decants.
Sorry to hear that your sinuses are Not Happy right now.
It feels warm enough to be at the beach for me today! Depending on which weather app I check, the high was between 69 and 75 degrees F. Amazing! I did make a point to get outside and enjoy the lovely sunshine this afternoon more than once. 🌞🌞🌞
SOTD = returned to Rose de Siwa today.
And an EPIC version of “Oh Canada” for today:
https://youtu.be/s_vMMu-Z28Y
🤘
You sure smelled great today!
Thank you! RdS wafted beautifully today.
I agree with the people who find a resonance between iris and silk, but to me the iris/silk is the kind with slubs in it, sort of like the rooty aspect of iris. Today I’m wearing NR White Cube and it feels like smooth silk to me.
Oh, that makes sense to me.
I’m still testing Strangers Perfume Cachouli from my recent Luckyscent sample set. It definitely has a nice dry down. It’s got cacao (milk chocolate) plus a whole raft of other stuff including, of course, patchouli. I’m hesitant about the opening phase because it smells to me like some kind of medicine I had to take as a child, maybe something with iron in it? It smelled awful. I can’t pin down what might be creating that scent trigger for me, unless just the somewhat odd combination of nuts with some florals, spices, Peru balsam, woods, milk, orange, etc. Things settle down nicely within about 15 minutes. It’s not gourmand despite the chocolate and dried fruits. I think it smells like a light brown or fawn suede jacket, maybe even ultra-suede which they can make feel and look quite nice these days, and which has the added benefit of being easily washable. Must be I’m saying that because this perfume has some kind of fake note or aspect to it, despite having (I’ve read) high quality ingredients.
On the home front I have taken a plunge and made appointments with some different wallpaper experts to come and take a look at my kitchen to give me both ideas and bids on a refresher out there. It’s badly needed, for the very embarrassing reason that cats over the years have gouged scratches in the existing stuff in some places, so that it all looks horrendous. Last night I began browsing wallpaper options on various websites and wow there’s a million options. I want light and minimal, but there’s some gorgeous big prints out there, even lovely huge murals that wealthy people could get applied to an accent wall (I say in my own head, as one wall of their otherwise stark white and gray modern homes). (Some snark included, but apologies to those who like that clean modern aesthetic.) (As you can guess, I’m the opposite, a bit more Arts & Crafts, but no Mission Oak, please.)
“nuts” got substituted for (or mistyped for) “notes” up above. I don’t think this perfume includes nuts in the notes, though it does have sixty other things.
Also, I can’t do wallpapering myself because (A) I’m not patient and not crafty, and (B) No climbing on ladders–my orthopedic surgeon and physical therapist would take off my head if I were to try that.
Once you find a pattern you like, I’d recommend looking to see if they have it on Wall Paper from the 70s dot com (all one word). I don’t know how but they have shockingly good prices (even with the shipping cost from Germany) and the shipping took less than a week for me. I wanted a well known pattern from a well-established Arts & Crafts designer/manufacturer, and the rolls I received were identical to the samples I received directly from the manufacturer. If the rolls are actually knockoffs, any differences are so imperceptible that I I don’t care and I’m happy to have paid 1/3 less. (I have no affiliation, just a very happy customer)
That’s not an embarrassing reason at all! I got some wallpapers for my house from Graham & Brown that I’m happy with and that have garnered many compliments. I was going to go the way of fancy murals for wealthy people, but then realized that then I’d have to maintain it like wealthy people do (ie, with more money), so I got over that idea.
Do you have to wallpaper? When our kitchen was redone, we decided to just paint. If I had a choice back then, I would have opted for using tiles as wallpaper.
Wore samples of Amouage Love Mimosa and LAP Soleil de Provence today, for comparison.
LM has cascalone and that note made itself known. It works well with the mimosa, but it is assertive to the point that this is a Fruit + Mimosa frag, not a Mimosa frag to my nose. Starts with melon and pear, but then unripe banana comes in. The blend itself is pretty.
The SdP is gorgeous. Benzoin and vanilla give it an ambery-sweet creamy layer beneath the mimosa that works really well. That layer cuts down some of the mimosa powder so that it is move of a velvet texture. I see some comparisons on Fragrantiga to TP Soleil Blanc and I see the resemblance, but this doesn’t have a coconut note and has 2/3 less of a beachy skin vibe. This one is less sweet than the fruity LM.
Tea today was Chocolate Puer because I just refreshed my stash of it. So yummy.
Was your Chocolate Puer iced today?
No, never! 😂
SOTD = 4160 Tuesdays Oakmossery custom blended with Orris
Love ❤️!

Tomorrow is my Friday as I am off for 4 days thereafter. Will I be productive? Heh! Who knows!!!
Happy Virtual Friday to you!
Thanks.
My gosh that bottle is gorgeous!
Is it a custom blend just for you?
Yes it is – bottle is gorgeous and custom blend for me. Others can request it too.
I’ve been in Felanilla, which may just be my fragrance of this winter. It reminds me of corduroy, but a really well broken in brown corduroy that you can’t bear to part with. ❤️
I miss brown corduroy.
Me too, lillyjo. There’s a specific pair I remember.
February is really kicking my behind. I have a lot going on this month. ( nothing fun, unfortunately)
I am wearing Jil Sander #4 for perfumey excellence today.
I hear you. I’ve got a mammogram scheduled for next week. Necessary but not fun.
So sorry lillyjo! At least it’s half over.
