Friday scent of the day 2/10

Posted by Robin on 10 February 2023 245 Comments

It's Friday, National Umbrella Day and World Pulses Day. Birthdays: Boris Pasternak, Chick Webb, E. L. Konigsburg. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with rose, if you have one. (This is a repeat from 2016).

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

We should do a rose month — there are so many I meant to wear but did not get to! But I ended up in Diptyque L'Ombre dans L'Eau.

Reminder: 2/17 will be Textile Friday...wear a perfume that makes you think of a textile–linen, silk, raw silk, velvet, corduroy, damask, wool poplin, cashmere, polyester, swimsuit fabric, etc. Suggested by Oakland Fresca.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m in Le Labo Rose 31, which is my only scent with rose in the name, and it’s actually the body products so I’m kind of cheating but I’m going to take points anyway. lol
Today’s my day off but I got up early to take my car in for the 20,000 mile service. First come, first serve at the dealership so I like to get here early. (currently waiting for said car to be done) Anyway, there was one person here waiting ahead of me and I had to pull my car forward a little bit before I could back up and get in line, and he HONKED at me!😤 The nerve. Yeah I saw you buddy, I know you were here first. Relax. Anyway, once we were inside I just gave him the glare and he left the nice waiting area and went and sat somewhere else.😂
The sun is back today.🌞 Happy Friday everyone.

It surely was a good-smelling week!
Happy Friyay! It’s pouring down with rain since early morning, all the lowlying bridges in my immediate surrounds are flooded, the golf course on the estate is almost entirely submerged too.I ventured out to hand in my laundry and run some errands but the roads were a nightmare and I abandoned 90% of my plans.
    SOTD!
Initio Atomic Rose edp.All the juicy, jammy lemony roses they could find is in here. It’s pretty, but similar to Rose Jam/Portrait of a lady vibes.
My (current) Top 5 rose perfumes:
    5.)Guerlain Nahema
    4.)Agent Provocateur original
    3.)ELDO Eau de Protection
    2.)Portrait of a Lady
1.)Tauer Phi une Rose de Kandehar
Would love to see everyone’s top picks!

      My top five roses:

      1) Une Rose Frederic Malle – the red hot Mama of all roses. She takes no prisoners.
      2) Tauer Perfumes Incense Rose – very sad this is discounted! I should have stopped being a cheap bum and grabbed a bottle when I could. A cool, stony rose that smells a touch damp somehow.
      3) Tauer Perfumes Une Rose Chypree – see above! This one is warm, a little autumnal, and the kick of cinnamon feels really unique combined with rose.
      4) Agent Provocateur – for a brand that I find pretty cheesy, they sure created one classy, grown-up fragrance, more angular and dry than the others on this list. I wear this one a lot and I always feel glamorous.
      5) Ungaro Diva – Roses, honey, oakmoss, woods, civet and who knows what else. Unapologetically a woman of the eighties and her shoulder pads block out the sun.

      2) Feu d’Issey (though very much not a traditional rose)
      3) Paestum Rose
      4) Phi
      5) Lipstick Rose

But…honourable mention for Fille de Berlin, Rose Chyprée, Incense Rose, Rose Poivre, and MCMC Kept. I also see that I have a lot of ELdO rose samples still to get through…I did like Eau de Protection.

POAL, which I hope to just keep spritzing all day since I’m home alone working.

Disappointed I couldn’t post my backyard deer videos on IG. I had music playing, and the powers that be caught that and decided my videos violated copyright. So…good to know at least. For the future.

Snow today, turning into freezing rain, turning into rain, turning back into snow and dropping to -12° overnight. UGH. I have the luxury of staying home today but it will not be nice out underfoot tomorrow. Weather in Canada, eh?

I’m in SL La Fille de Berlin, another favourite thorns-and-all rose. There is a place for beautiful roses like Paris and Joy, but my heart belongs to the ones that are hiding a dagger among their petals.

I’m going to go back over everyone’s picks for this week and get some ideas for adding to my collection of rose scents. Anyway I got my decant of Delina this week, so I’m wearing that. I am enjoying it very much. Next week I’m starting a personal project. I haven’t worn much from my mini bottles in the last few years. I think I’m going to be doing blind grabs from my minis for awhile.

    Hello all!

I goofed today and wore Omnia, not the most obvious rose perfume. But it definitely has a rosy musky warmth, even if they don’t list rose in the notes. Today it smells like the hippy cousin of Gucci Rush. Just lovely.

    Have a great day everyone.

I found Kappus through Kevin here, and now it’s a thing that I stock up on their soaps every time I go to Germany. (So, related to the happy birthday & thank you theme :) )

Current SOTD is Eau de Mechanic while waiting for Moby to get his voice box tended to. Will follow up with something when I get done here. Not sure if I have much more with rose since it’s not a favorite note with me. I may just spritz PHI again…

Beautiful day yesterday with loads of sunshine but wicked storms overnight. Moved my site in the middle of the night because of a tree in my site and the WIND! Holy cow, the WIND! I’ve subscribed to coast guard rescue swimmers on IG because the local station is one of the best in the world and they film their rescues. Talk about DRAMA! Brave folks. The weather out here is very labile. Sun is out again and hoping for another nice one today.

    Happy FriYAY!

Oh, and I made an exciting purchase last night after a trying week (isn’t that always the way?) — a bottle of Narcisse Noir perfume that I got a very good deal on. Can’t wait until it gets here, I’m so excited. It’s in the beautiful classic bottle too, which is my fave perfume bottle ever.

Wearing 4160 Tuesdays “Who Knew?” and the visual equivalent would be roses on a bed of moss. Heard the original name was “Who knew I liked roses?”, created for a now-converted, anti-rose person.

Darn it! Rose is my groove, but I applied perfume (and copious amounts at that) before reading about the CP. This morning I drained my beloved bottle of Sienna Musk by SSS. This is an amber bombshell, and I am wafting no doubt half way around the world. No appts today in person, so I think humanity is safe.

For the CP win, Ungaro Diva edp. I was very surprised how many rose-forward scents I have. Thought about various favorites, especially while unsuccessfully seeking E&J Nirvana Rose (it’s here someplace). Then I saw my mini of Diva. So warm, with just the right amount of skank. Mossy chypres are my favorite setting for roses. A few of my other roses that were in the running for the CP were: Knowing, La Fille de Berlin, and EL Wood Mystique. WM has a fun pepper opening.

Hi all, and happy Friday! It’s been far too long since I’ve posted.
My SOTD is a rose with thorns, L’ Arte di Gucci EDT, rose, patchouli, moss, and leather.

Hey, everyone! I’m in Cloon Keen Roísín Dubh. I do not have many roses, and this is my newest and my favorite. I’ve worn it three times this week. :)

I’m back from Finland! Thanks for all your good wishes for the trip. The power of NST yielded a trip that was unprecedentedly smooth. The conference was outstanding, and my paper went well. And yes, I loved Finland.

I came back to very grim realities at work. Sigh. But I’ll always have Finland…

I’m wearing Safran Troublant today and I put it on rather generously–hope I won’t gas out the people at PT this afternoon. I do really love this scent. I plan to go visit Mom after PT and wanted to smell nice for her. Not sure she notices but you never know, it may just create a pleasant feeling when I’m around her. I like to wear some jewelry too because Mom always notices and comments on my jewelry. She used to wear such pretty jewelry but not any more (basically she loses things and it’s not really appropriate to leave nice things there where she is–not that the staff are dishonest but it might simply drop into the trash or whatever). I have her nice jewelry here at home including some really nice diamond rings–size 4!–my fingers are small but not THAT small, and neither am I quite that blingy.

I flew home late last night and so was reunited with my collection in time for the CP. Thanks to all the powers that my mom is recovering quickly from her medical crisis and comfortable at home where my dad and brother can care for her.

I chose Kelly Caleche for the CP. It’s not the boldest rose, but it’s the first perfume with rose that I enjoyed enough to buy a bottle.

After the week of build up, impulse control problems kicked in and I put on a generous dab of one of the many new samples I ordered last week! Now it has faded to a nice enough spicy amber(no rose!!)that is so generic I don’t remember it’s name. Lol.
I got a pneumonia vaccine and the second in the series of shingles vaccines yesterday when I went for my annual wellness check. Last bloodwork showed triglycerides up, weight is up, BP continues to bounce around. Time for the post-retirement New Me program to kick it up a step. An hour a day of wrestling with hay and ponies in low temps is apparently not enough exercise! Now nappies! Have a good weekend, one and all.
I think the mystery sample is a Mona di Orio scent, but I got 3, not sure which this one is..

I’m intrigued — what is your New Me program! I’m closing in on a retirement date at the end of this August, woohoo! I’ve been doing classes at our local Y for a few months in preparation: Senior Strength and Cardio, and Tai Chi. I really love Tai Chi!

Exercise by going for long walks and taking pictures. Firm up my household maintenance routine so it is a routine instead of a cascade of unimportant but urgent little emergencies so I have more time to spend on important things, like working with the horses, working on the garden, and doing some of the knitting projects I have piled up. My life was much more in order before I took this job, now it is time to get it back in order! Less annoyance more fun.

I’m in my beloved Lubin Grisette for the CP. Pink rose petals! Sparkling citrus! A light dusting of soft iris powder. And a usually low-key incense note that is popping more than usual today (no compliant from me).

Drinking the regular F&M Assam again today. I think I will do a side by side with the regular and superb versions this weekend because I so far I haven’t been able to find any difference in the flavor.

It is a Spring day outside. It is unnerving this early in a New Jersey February. Staten Island Chuck was right, so I am switching my groundhog allegiance to him. I wish Staten Island had a festival for Chuck like Punxsutawney does for Phil because it is a fun hullabaloo.

I keep wondering when Old Man Winter is going to come by with a big, cold hammer to smash the temps down to something seasonable.

Body products for the SOTD: The Organic Pharmacy Rose Jasmine oil after showering in LOVE (rose – vanilla) from BBW. Perfect for today. The body oil can really be worn like a perfume honestly.

Belated birthday greetings to NST and thanks to Robin for providing such a welcome place. Wow, 18 years already!

Like some of you, I, too, could wear rose fragrances for several weeks; I have many as it’s my favorite floral note. One of the ways I like to have fun with my perfume hobby (and wear a broader range of fragrances and not just my usual favorites) is to choose a monthly theme and wear those scents that speak to that theme during the month.

So taking my cue from February’s theme (chocolate and roses 💐) and this week’s cp, I’m combining the two and testing Dame’s Chocolate + Rose edt for the first time. I love the way Jeffrey does chocolate and this is no exception but it’s different. It’s definitely a rose-centered fragrance (a lovely Rose de Mai), and the chocolate is more like a soft cacao powder in the background which gentles the rose. I’m enjoying it immensely!

Just as I’m immensely enjoying the ☀️ again – we’ve had quite a bit of it lately 🤞. And I was also thrilled to see an inch or so of my snowdrops coming up in the garden – Spring’s not far away 🤞. And, lastly, our classic film series in our historic theater this week featured a 45th anniversary showing of the film ‘Grease.’ Love that 🎶 and how awesome to see Travolta’s smooth moves on the big screen but sad to know Olivia Newton John is no longer with us. Hard to believe that the film was made 45 years ago already! Just wish I could’ve seen the original play (based upon a Chicago high school) which was supposedly harder-edged and more Chicago— centric. But the film version had me dancing in my seat and feeling 45 years younger by the time it was over.

Wishing everyone a great weekend ahead! Hope the weather improves for those of you who need it, I will gladly share my 🌞with you!

I’m other news, I may have mentioned that a friend’s husband had surgery for brain cancer which was metastasized from lung cancer. He is now on home hospice and does not want to see anybody. Anyway, I will drop off food tomorrow, having arranged the time with my friend. The only thing is, unless I have a sudden epiphany, I will not have his favorite food (steak) but it is what it is as I am sure she will have something for him and can prepare it exactly the way he wants it.

Late to the party, it’s been a busy day! I love roses and I have lots of rose-centric perfumes, but I went with a no-brainer: Strange Invisible Perfumes Aquarian Rose. I am an Aquarius, and this scent is right up my alley, with it’s mix of marjoram, heady rose and sandalwood. I also have SIP Prima Ballerina and Black Rosette, and Hiram Green’s Lustre in constant rotation. Another rose scent I love is Artemisia Perfumes Eros, which uses Bourbon rose, a very intense smelling cultivar of rose, along with oakmoss and orris.
I do have a thing for all natural rose perfumes. I respect skillfully engineered rose scents like Nahema, but for rose notes, the real thing can’t be beat.
