Tuesday scent of the day 1/10

Posted by Robin on 10 January 2023 130 Comments

It’s Tuesday and National Bittersweet Chocolate Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm running down my favorite colors for the rest of the week, starting with blue. Fragrance today is Comptoir Sud Pacifique Aqua Motu (which is really maybe more of a blue / green.) Tea at the moment, to match, is a Jin Xuan oolong.

Reminder: 1/13 will be True Colors Friday. Tell us your favorite color, and wear a fragrance with that color in the name, or that reminds you of that color, or that has juice in that color, or ... ?

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image shows items from the T2 Vintage Vibes collection ("We started by pulling apart decades of beloved T2 design. And then we stitched them back together again"). You can find a Vintage Vibes teapot at the T2 US site for $72 (but they don't seem to have the one shown above).

In Donna Karan Black Cashmere for my black color week. Beautiful bottle and scent, even though it smells gray to me.

    Happy Tuesday! 🖤

Today I’m in another gorgeous eighties thing, Jacomo Parfum Rare, one of those rather grand old-school chypres that tilts masculine, laden with carnations and wood and oakmoss.

I have been collecting since the eighties and have a fair number of bottles from the seventies and eighties, which (and I freely admit I’m biased) is better than most of what hits the market these days. It’s largely a numbers game: back in the day a house would launch a scent every few years, but nowadays they chuck them out ten at a time, a dozen or two a year, a couple thousand new scents annually, and it’s difficult to find the good among all the swill. Sturgeon’s Law still holds: “Ninety percent of everything is crap.” More stuff, more crap.

For a long time I could find really good vintage stuff at very good prices. One perfume store used to sell its testers-well, they asked for a donation of $20 per bottle, in cash, and that money went to a local charity. So I have a stash of Mystere, Guerlains, Givenchy III. Do you ever post pictures of your stash, pyramus? I bet it’s gorgeous.

Funny you should be wearing this as I see today there is a huge discount on this at a few different sites. I have contemplated a blind buy but wondering if I should or not.

It is one of my all-time favourite can’t-fail office scents. It’s one time I’d urge a blind buy, as it seems to be universally pleasing, although admittedly nothing wildly original.

My favorite color is Cobalt blue. So I will do a week of that..

Oud Fumé by Chantecaille-to match an Arabian adventure amongst the blue frescos in a beautiful Northern African country..

Speaking of Chantecaille- I own a few eye shadow pallets but have never tried their foundations/tinted moisturizers. I am thinking of trying. Anyone way in?

So post shower I have switched to the sample of Iris Luminiere that I really don’t remember ordering. It is a very Irisie Iris to my nose, nice and rooty and fieldy, and yet flowery without being sweet. I will never seriously consider a FB of this, what with the price, but I do like it. I will only wear it occasionally, to make the sample last, and to decrease the chances of creating a craving… Also, Tobin, as always, the Tuesday teapots are great. I went to the site, chose the USA branch, and they are having a 50% sale on a variety of similar pieces, just in case someone is in need of a night and cheerful teapot or whatnot. Now off to shopping- not my favorite thing. I want to stay home and knit!

Gentle snow storm here-fat white flakes that are accumulating. Looks pretty. I’m in Mandragore, with a spritz of Duel across the back of my hands. I love this combination, and even tho Duel is an EDT it has fantastic lasting power.

Hi lillyjo! I liked both La Douleur Exquise and Belle Ame.
LDE might lean too far on the Bandit vs. PoaL end of the spectrum for me with a strong leather accord. Belle Ame is a beautiful iris but it doesn’t feel like particularly new territory among iris scents that I have and like. I’ll be curious to see what you think.

Brown isn’t a colour that pops up in many perfume names (Coco Brown, Brown Cashmere, Brown Interdit, Brown Haze) and it has a bit of a school uniform vibe that is hard to shake ( memories of my brown gym slip, V-Neck jumper and brown rompers come to mind) but (BUT) it is a beautiful colour. Dark, glossy wood ( walnut, mahogany), Brine bull kelp, Nuts and grains ( hazelnuts, oats), stunning insects and birds, stunning tweeds and knits in natural shades. Coffee, tea, chocolate. Leather and tobacco. The brown paper bag! Classic. So, here’s to brown. Wearing autumn vibes on this hot, muggy and misty morning.

Yay, another brown lover! It’s such an underrated color. I would truly love to see more clothing in deep shades of brown, since black does not suit my complexion (although I love it.)
I bought a deep, coffee-brown velvet couch years ago, and I still love it. I think that item alone might offset all of my unwise furniture buys. 😎

I wish Autumn Vibes had worked for me, but it didn’t. Still looking for the perfect autumn scent.

SotD Laura Ashley No. 1, vintage edp. The lovely bottle does have some greens and blues, but I think I will claim CP points because LANo.1 is one of my, if not the, happy place perfumes I own. My putative favorite colors, light teal-blue-green-turquoise give me that same feeling.

I will have to think about my favorite color. Wearing Trish McEvoy Blackberry & Vanilla Musk, been wearing this mostly the last few weeks. You have to reapply OfTeN so I am making a big old dent in the bottle which is pretty satisfying. I had a bit of drama over the weekend and did not put on any perfume while I was going through it, so now wearing scent again is comforting. (All is well, just one of life’s little speed bumps)

I’ve chosen Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir for the day, it’s somewhere between orange, green and brown (the tea note) :) .

My favorite color is green, but I’m not particularly drawn to scents described as “green.” I’m therefore choosing to associate green color with citrus notes (maybe I’m thinking of the pretty green “O de Lancome” bottle!). Today I’m wearing Bois 1920 Sushi Imperiale. It’s among the first niche perfumes I ever bought but I don’t wear it very often–I love the juicy citrus opening more than the somewhat sweet-spicy dry down.

SotD is the new Vetiver from Pd’E. I’m loving it, that is, what’s left of it that didn’t wear off on the scarf I wore, lol! Will have to re-spritz from my sample.
I’m definitely a fall-color lover, with golds and greens at the top. This scent is the color of the sweater I’m wearing, a mossy green, ever so slightly marled with dark gold. It’s a thick cashmere cardigan, and one of the comfiest things I own.

I haven’t done a side by side but A*men is very much an Angel heir and sweeter, although Rem Tonka is also pretty sweet, you and I are the Rem Tonka fans here, I also have Commodity Tonka😃.

    SOTD = Slumberhouse Mond

Nice! Fruity, spicy, amber, woody tobacco with honey! The juice has a greenish hue to it.

I should do a Slumberhouse week one of these days!

Weird stuff I’m hearing at work but it is what it is. A kidnapping in Mexico where it’s not really clear when it happened and it is now just being reported. It seems the employee went to Mexico to get married and I assume she did but why did it take 5 days, which is x-unknown days after the kidnapping, to report the incident? Now the family will be sending a car key to Mexico so she can drive home. Again, very very strange.

One more – a soon to be new hire (on an International visa) starting in two weeks ran out of money to pay for lodgings before this person’s start date. Also, you don’t get paid before you start, even if there’s a sign-on bonus. I say rescind this person’s offer because they obviously cannot budget.

The first story sounds odd to me. I’m not saying it didn’t happen but more times than I can count on both hands I have seen coworkers go on vacation and decide they want to stay longer so call about some odd thing preventing them from coming back ( I am not management so I end up hearing the true stories later).. also I apologize for the run on sentence. Lol.

I have never tried anything by Slumberhouse, but have always wondered what Pear and Olive smelled like. I think it is probably discontinued now. I don’t hear many talk about it anymore.

A bit of sun this afternoon for me, which was a welcome surprise after a gloomy, cloudy morning. I’ll definitely appreciate any sunbeam that comes my way.

SOTD = Samsara EdP. The three notes I get the most from my bottle are narcissus, jasmine, and sandalwood. The narcissus note is definitely a bright yellow. Then the color of the perfume shifts as heart and base notes pop out. It is definitely a red scent on me right now.

I just sprayed Samsara edp to see if I could get the same notes. I mostly get sandalwood but I can’t pick out specific florals like you can. It can be hard for me to distinguish.

Like Gaynor yesterday, I don’t have a favorite color, although I have a lot of green clothes. I also stink at matching color to scent, so I’ll just say that I’m wearing Cologne pour le Soir. I should go put some more on, I have the huge bottle.

Oh yes–we’re on the fringes of the pounding California is getting. But, winter in the PNW is usually mostly cold rain, it doesn’t snow very often.

I slept terribly last night and have been dragging all day.
I’m wearing Narciso White Cube because it’s easy and beautiful.
I like White as a color but find it too hard to keep clean. My Grandmother was the Queen of keeping White’s White. She knew how to keep everything clean though.

Ugh, hate when I get lousy sleep. Some people get hangry when they’re hungry but I’m a full on b*t*h when I don’t sleep well. I hope you are able to go to bed early tonight and sleep uninterrupted for at least 10 hours. 😴 That works for me as a hard reset. Make it a priority, and tell your kids you’re “out of the office” except for emergencies! Put on your eye mask, ear plugs and zone right out. 😀

Very late to this party because I was attending another party thrown by SUNSHINE all day! No rain, just partly cloudy but mostly sunshiney day. I feel like I won the lottery!

In honor of this Golden Day, I’m wearing My Precious, Onda VdE. She is very round and smooth, just like that heavenly orb, with a wink now and then of gold peeking out from behind a cloud. Love her! 🌤
