It’s Tuesday and National Bittersweet Chocolate Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm running down my favorite colors for the rest of the week, starting with blue. Fragrance today is Comptoir Sud Pacifique Aqua Motu (which is really maybe more of a blue / green.) Tea at the moment, to match, is a Jin Xuan oolong.
Reminder: 1/13 will be True Colors Friday. Tell us your favorite color, and wear a fragrance with that color in the name, or that reminds you of that color, or that has juice in that color, or ... ?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows items from the T2 Vintage Vibes collection ("We started by pulling apart decades of beloved T2 design. And then we stitched them back together again"). You can find a Vintage Vibes teapot at the T2 US site for $72 (but they don't seem to have the one shown above).
In Donna Karan Black Cashmere for my black color week. Beautiful bottle and scent, even though it smells gray to me.
Happy Tuesday! 🖤
Love this one, perfect choice .
One of my favorite perfumes!
You smell great.
Thank you, Robin!
You smell perfect. That was such a beauty!
Thank you, AnnieE!
I regret not getting a bub when it was still available.
Do you have the black pebble bottle, or the later version?
I have the original black pebble bottle, which is gorgeous!
Today I’m in another gorgeous eighties thing, Jacomo Parfum Rare, one of those rather grand old-school chypres that tilts masculine, laden with carnations and wood and oakmoss.
I think you win the Most Interesting Perfume Collection Award — I’m fascinated!
I have been collecting since the eighties and have a fair number of bottles from the seventies and eighties, which (and I freely admit I’m biased) is better than most of what hits the market these days. It’s largely a numbers game: back in the day a house would launch a scent every few years, but nowadays they chuck them out ten at a time, a dozen or two a year, a couple thousand new scents annually, and it’s difficult to find the good among all the swill. Sturgeon’s Law still holds: “Ninety percent of everything is crap.” More stuff, more crap.
For a long time I could find really good vintage stuff at very good prices. One perfume store used to sell its testers-well, they asked for a donation of $20 per bottle, in cash, and that money went to a local charity. So I have a stash of Mystere, Guerlains, Givenchy III. Do you ever post pictures of your stash, pyramus? I bet it’s gorgeous.
I think we need a new “inside the perfume cabinet” episode!!😉😉
I’m firmly in your bias camp!
You smell fabulous! I have a half used bottle of Parfum Rare and it really is such a lovely cypress. It reminds me of Y but a bit more full bodied.
I’m in V&A Bois d’Iris, because I decided to wear a purple sweater today.
You smell great!
Funny you should be wearing this as I see today there is a huge discount on this at a few different sites. I have contemplated a blind buy but wondering if I should or not.
It is one of my all-time favourite can’t-fail office scents. It’s one time I’d urge a blind buy, as it seems to be universally pleasing, although admittedly nothing wildly original.
Thanks Annie. I think I will get it. If I don’t like it I am sure there is someone here I can give it to😊
My favorite color is Cobalt blue. So I will do a week of that..
Oud Fumé by Chantecaille-to match an Arabian adventure amongst the blue frescos in a beautiful Northern African country..
Speaking of Chantecaille- I own a few eye shadow pallets but have never tried their foundations/tinted moisturizers. I am thinking of trying. Anyone way in?
Tea is cappuccino made at home with almond milk
I like the link to Oud Fume!
Me too. Marketed for men I enjoy it
Well-played! You have re-awakened my lemming for their fragrance sample set I saw somewhere recently. Like I need more samples, lol!
Re your question – I have tried only their powder foundation, which was okay, but I did not repurchase.
I will stick to their makeup and perfume then…
Yep. Their eyeshadows are the best.
I bought the black jaguar one recently and love it
My go to tinted moisturizer is Chantecaille Just Skin with spf 15. It actually makes my skin feel better when I use it. I use shade Glow. I buff it in with a Makeup Forever buff brush. I’ve repurchased many times!
Great! Thanks for letting me know. Have you tried their future skin?
I’ve been meaning to try the Future Skin, but with the tinted moisturizer, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. But I’m sure if you tried, the formula and coverage would be outstanding.
I couldn’t think of any color matches and just grabbed a sample from my stash: Chance Eau Tendre. It’s pleasant. It’s been a frustrating day so far, so I’m glad I’m not wearing anything too challenging. I need a reset button!
I hope your day gets easier!
Color week! Great CP-easy for me with my rich winter florals… Yesterday I wore church incense Smokey grey La Liturgie des Heures. Today Iris purple and white Niral from a sample which adorable hubby commented on again favorably… starting to think about a FB of this…
I’m with you on a fb of Niral!Gorgeous gorgeous
Niral is so lush! My poor bottle is trapped away in storage….
Always frustrating! I know I have one box of old bottles around here somewhere but haven’t seen them in years.
So post shower I have switched to the sample of Iris Luminiere that I really don’t remember ordering. It is a very Irisie Iris to my nose, nice and rooty and fieldy, and yet flowery without being sweet. I will never seriously consider a FB of this, what with the price, but I do like it. I will only wear it occasionally, to make the sample last, and to decrease the chances of creating a craving… Also, Tobin, as always, the Tuesday teapots are great. I went to the site, chose the USA branch, and they are having a 50% sale on a variety of similar pieces, just in case someone is in need of a night and cheerful teapot or whatnot. Now off to shopping- not my favorite thing. I want to stay home and knit!
Oh, I missed the sale…thanks for posting!
Gentle snow storm here-fat white flakes that are accumulating. Looks pretty. I’m in Mandragore, with a spritz of Duel across the back of my hands. I love this combination, and even tho Duel is an EDT it has fantastic lasting power.
Hope Tuesday is a gentle day for most of us .
Your snow sounds really pretty.
I’m a big fan of Mandragore!
Me three! Wish I would have grabbed one of the colored bottles when they were around.
My new to me burgundy boots just arrived in the mail so I’m wearing DSH Inner Sanctum to match.
We had sunshine all day yesterday! Of course today it’s raining ☂️
Burgundy boots and weather twins!
Ooo that all sounds great! Enjoy!
Stumbled upon my sample of No 19 Poudre this morning, so another day of green for me. Another day of rain too. I’m hoping we’ll have enough of a clearing for me to sneak a walk in sometime today.
Good luck, hope the weather cooperates!
Favorite color is Kelly Green.
In OJ Woman today. It isn’t a green scent but it’s beautiful and the juice is greenish.
Oh interesting — you don’t find Woman to be a green scent? I get so much hemlock and vetiver from it that I can’t think of it as anything BUT green! So funny how our perceptions can be so different.
That’s true. I am comparing it to Synthetic Jungle, Green Spell and misc chypres but when you mention the hemlock and vetiver, it’s definitely green.
Hey allo! What did you think of the Les Abstrats(sp?) You wore yesterday? The creative director Eugen is a youtuber I have watched for a long time. I hope this brand goes well for him.
Hi lillyjo! I liked both La Douleur Exquise and Belle Ame.
LDE might lean too far on the Bandit vs. PoaL end of the spectrum for me with a strong leather accord. Belle Ame is a beautiful iris but it doesn’t feel like particularly new territory among iris scents that I have and like. I’ll be curious to see what you think.
Your SOTD from yesterday sounded quite intriguing!
Wearing Tobacco Vanille today. Doing some window shopping at Sephora online. I am plotting my spring sale haul.
Ooh.. when is the spring sale?
I have some points to use.
I don’t know when the spring sale is but I am getting a head start.
Brown isn’t a colour that pops up in many perfume names (Coco Brown, Brown Cashmere, Brown Interdit, Brown Haze) and it has a bit of a school uniform vibe that is hard to shake ( memories of my brown gym slip, V-Neck jumper and brown rompers come to mind) but (BUT) it is a beautiful colour. Dark, glossy wood ( walnut, mahogany), Brine bull kelp, Nuts and grains ( hazelnuts, oats), stunning insects and birds, stunning tweeds and knits in natural shades. Coffee, tea, chocolate. Leather and tobacco. The brown paper bag! Classic. So, here’s to brown. Wearing autumn vibes on this hot, muggy and misty morning.
I *love* the color brown, and it is one of the colors that looks good on me, like those “Color Me Beautiful” guidelines.
Haha!I love the perfume names!
I bought a new suede leather couch that I’m picking up next week,it’s toffee brown and beautiful.
Ooh, exciting! Furniture shopping is right up there next to perfume shopping for me. ❤️
It used to be in though! Thinking of the US in the 70s, everything was brown, gold, orange, that weird shade of moss green.
Not that I don’t *miss* those colors!
I *hated* those Harvest Gold and Avocado Green appliances! What were my parents thinking?
Avocado green, right!
I enjoyed your ode to brown!
Yay, another brown lover! It’s such an underrated color. I would truly love to see more clothing in deep shades of brown, since black does not suit my complexion (although I love it.)
I bought a deep, coffee-brown velvet couch years ago, and I still love it. I think that item alone might offset all of my unwise furniture buys. 😎
I wish Autumn Vibes had worked for me, but it didn’t. Still looking for the perfect autumn scent.
I never wear brown, but my SOTD is Jovoy Les Jeux sont fait and it seems sort of bronze brown to me.
I hated brown as a kid but love it now. I don’t like brown eyeliner though.
SotD Laura Ashley No. 1, vintage edp. The lovely bottle does have some greens and blues, but I think I will claim CP points because LANo.1 is one of my, if not the, happy place perfumes I own. My putative favorite colors, light teal-blue-green-turquoise give me that same feeling.
Love those “happy place” and “happy making” perfumes!
I love that bottle.
Hiram Green Vivacious for me today, for the CP. I have tons of “green” perfumes of various sorts, but will probably change over to my other favourite colour tomorrow.
I am on green tomorrow
Chergui, and we all know what the color of this juice is!My one colleague literally gasped when I showed her the perfume at work today, most people I work with knows perfumes that are peachy in color…not THIS murky broth!
No points today but by golly I smell PRETTY SPECTACULAR!!
Oooo you smell fab!
You smell wonderful!
*Love* that you can talk to a work mate about perfume!
I really should try Chergui again.
The sparest spray of Jeux de Peau today. Truly one of my top five Lutens. It’s an apricot color for sure which is not my favorite color.
Have a great day.
Lutens offers great choices in the colors-of-the-juice-department!
I agree with you completely that scent is apricot in color.
I will have to think about my favorite color. Wearing Trish McEvoy Blackberry & Vanilla Musk, been wearing this mostly the last few weeks. You have to reapply OfTeN so I am making a big old dent in the bottle which is pretty satisfying. I had a bit of drama over the weekend and did not put on any perfume while I was going through it, so now wearing scent again is comforting. (All is well, just one of life’s little speed bumps)
Glad you got past the speed bump, nebbe!
Pleased to hear that the drama is behind you now. It’s so draining, especially at this time of year.
Very glad to hear you are post bump and comfortingly scented😊
I’ve chosen Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir for the day, it’s somewhere between orange, green and brown (the tea note) .
Covers all the bases!
My favorite color is green, but I’m not particularly drawn to scents described as “green.” I’m therefore choosing to associate green color with citrus notes (maybe I’m thinking of the pretty green “O de Lancome” bottle!). Today I’m wearing Bois 1920 Sushi Imperiale. It’s among the first niche perfumes I ever bought but I don’t wear it very often–I love the juicy citrus opening more than the somewhat sweet-spicy dry down.
That O de Lancome bottle is a lovely one.
SotD is the new Vetiver from Pd’E. I’m loving it, that is, what’s left of it that didn’t wear off on the scarf I wore, lol! Will have to re-spritz from my sample.
I’m definitely a fall-color lover, with golds and greens at the top. This scent is the color of the sweater I’m wearing, a mossy green, ever so slightly marled with dark gold. It’s a thick cashmere cardigan, and one of the comfiest things I own.
Your sweater sounds gorgeous!
Thanks, lillyjo! It’s one of my favorites, plus it was on sale. ☺️
In MM L’Attesa, which would be a blue-lavender.
Which is probably my all time favorite color.
Philosophy Falling in love today, and tonight A*men Pure Tonka.
Have you ever compared the Pure Tonka to Reminiscence Tonka?
I haven’t done a side by side but A*men is very much an Angel heir and sweeter, although Rem Tonka is also pretty sweet, you and I are the Rem Tonka fans here, I also have Commodity Tonka😃.
SOTD = Slumberhouse Mond
Nice! Fruity, spicy, amber, woody tobacco with honey! The juice has a greenish hue to it.
I should do a Slumberhouse week one of these days!
Weird stuff I’m hearing at work but it is what it is. A kidnapping in Mexico where it’s not really clear when it happened and it is now just being reported. It seems the employee went to Mexico to get married and I assume she did but why did it take 5 days, which is x-unknown days after the kidnapping, to report the incident? Now the family will be sending a car key to Mexico so she can drive home. Again, very very strange.
One more – a soon to be new hire (on an International visa) starting in two weeks ran out of money to pay for lodgings before this person’s start date. Also, you don’t get paid before you start, even if there’s a sign-on bonus. I say rescind this person’s offer because they obviously cannot budget.
Definitely strange happenings at work for you. 😵
The first story sounds odd to me. I’m not saying it didn’t happen but more times than I can count on both hands I have seen coworkers go on vacation and decide they want to stay longer so call about some odd thing preventing them from coming back ( I am not management so I end up hearing the true stories later).. also I apologize for the run on sentence. Lol.
I have never tried anything by Slumberhouse, but have always wondered what Pear and Olive smelled like. I think it is probably discontinued now. I don’t hear many talk about it anymore.
A bit of sun this afternoon for me, which was a welcome surprise after a gloomy, cloudy morning. I’ll definitely appreciate any sunbeam that comes my way.
SOTD = Samsara EdP. The three notes I get the most from my bottle are narcissus, jasmine, and sandalwood. The narcissus note is definitely a bright yellow. Then the color of the perfume shifts as heart and base notes pop out. It is definitely a red scent on me right now.
I just sprayed Samsara edp to see if I could get the same notes. I mostly get sandalwood but I can’t pick out specific florals like you can. It can be hard for me to distinguish.
Like Gaynor yesterday, I don’t have a favorite color, although I have a lot of green clothes. I also stink at matching color to scent, so I’ll just say that I’m wearing Cologne pour le Soir. I should go put some more on, I have the huge bottle.
Are you still getting rain where you are?
Oh yes–we’re on the fringes of the pounding California is getting. But, winter in the PNW is usually mostly cold rain, it doesn’t snow very often.
I slept terribly last night and have been dragging all day.
I’m wearing Narciso White Cube because it’s easy and beautiful.
I like White as a color but find it too hard to keep clean. My Grandmother was the Queen of keeping White’s White. She knew how to keep everything clean though.
Easy and beautiful is a wonderful combination. Sorry to hear about your poor sleep.
So, how does your grandmother keep whites white? 😄
Oh my gosh she put a lot of time and elbow grease into cleaning. I didn’t inherit that gene. I get tired just looking at laundry! Lol.
Ugh, hate when I get lousy sleep. Some people get hangry when they’re hungry but I’m a full on b*t*h when I don’t sleep well. I hope you are able to go to bed early tonight and sleep uninterrupted for at least 10 hours. 😴 That works for me as a hard reset. Make it a priority, and tell your kids you’re “out of the office” except for emergencies! Put on your eye mask, ear plugs and zone right out. 😀
Maybe next week. Inventory starts tomorrow! Ugh. But I’m going to bed now that my daughter is asleep.
Very late to this party because I was attending another party thrown by SUNSHINE all day! No rain, just partly cloudy but mostly sunshiney day. I feel like I won the lottery!
In honor of this Golden Day, I’m wearing My Precious, Onda VdE. She is very round and smooth, just like that heavenly orb, with a wink now and then of gold peeking out from behind a cloud. Love her! 🌤
So happy the sun found you!🌞
You did win the lottery!
I’m in full summer green in Scherrer parfum.
No CP points, though, since my choice was not color driven.
You smell wonderful and the lovely Scherrer will definitely be in my green line-up this week!
Nice. I endorse all green, all week!!!
You are always allowed to fit yourself into the cp after you chose!
In that case, partial points awarded since I like green!
