Ah, the first Monday of 2023. It's also World Introvert Day and National Science Fiction Day, plus it’s the 9th day of Christmas (ladies dancing). RIP Barbara Walters, Anita Pointer. PSA: Donatella will be dropping by on Wednesday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm smelling delicious in Aftelier Boheme Confection.
Reminder: on 1/6, wear a fragrance to match Viva Magenta, Pantone's color of the year for 2023. ("Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, and a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative. [It] is powerful and empowering. It is a new animated red that revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and self-expression without restraint, an electrifying, and a boundaryless shade that is manifesting as a stand-out statement.")
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows detail from a Globe + Pantone skateboard deck with wall mount ("This limited run of 300 decks comes paint dipped with laser etched detailing the color story, collaboration info and individualized numbering on each board"), $79.95 at Globe.
Happy New Year, everyone!
My samples have arrived plus I went smelling this morning.
So far I have tried: Dusita (Melodie de L´amour), Eau Capitale and Golestan. They are all beautiful but no love or must need a bottle.
Freebies: If anyone is interested here in Europe, I can send the 5ml sample I got of Melodie de L´amour as well as some surprise samples. People here are so generous I started the year wanting to share too.
Money saved, hope trying them was fun!
Good morning and happy new year! Working early mornings starting today and wearing Violette Volynka.
Happy 2023 sugarvenom!
Happy first Monday of 2023!
I have today off, otherwise happy and Monday would not be two words I’d use in the same sentence.
Magenta is a favorite color of mine and I often associate it with roses (I know, very imaginative), so, I’m choosing Ta’if for today. Truth be told, I could wear Ta’if everyday.
Have a great day off!
Thank you Lillyjo, I did!
Just tried Ta’if yesterday. This is very pretty. May have to think about purchasing in the future, but trying not to buy any full bottles this year. We will see how long that lasts😊
It’s gorgeous! And has very good lasting power, I find. I’m on my second bottle, that’s how much I love it.
I think you are enabling 😊
Ta’if was one of the first scents I thought of for this color, which is admittedly not one of my favorites (probably because I cannot wear it).
Oh, that’s a shame. I love this color and actually wore a top with just this color yesterday, by coincidence. But I love jewel tones in general.
I am pretty much doomed by my coloring. I look best in cool pastels, white, black, blue, purple.
I look like a dead person in nearly any shade of red, yellow or orange.
I don’t normally associate perfume with colors but I had no trouble coming up with this one.
Actually I did *not* think of roses when I first saw that color. So you and several other NSTers have enlightened me! 🌹🌹🌹
I’m in FM Iris Poudre-it’s really nice . Hope 2023 is good to everyone!
Smelling gorgeous over there!!
Thank you, J B
One of my favorites and always get compliments when I swear this.
Thank you, Kris-I have the cylindrical bottle-it’s all black, nd holds 30 ml. I even love the bottle-this is a special fragrance, for sure
We’re closed today, but I am back at work tomorrow.
Already the second day of January?Wow…
Kayali Musk layered with a little bit of their Vanilla.Fun combo, this is a really easy musk to fall in love with. From a rollerball set that has two fragrances.
Have a good week everyone!
Back to “normal” tomorrow!🙈🙈
I saw they have a new one. I think it’s called Vanilla Patchouli or something similar. I will try it the next time I go to the BIG mall 🌞
Yes,I tried it a while back,in the gold bottle. Was not really my thing and I dunno, their last bunch of releases all have this synthetic screech that I cannot stand.
“synthestic screech” made me LOL, I don’t like it either.
I know and loathe that screech you speak of!
Wearing Amouage Lyric. I associate magenta with roses, so I may go the easy way and do a week of rose scents.
I am off from work today, but having a busy day taking my mom to tests and doctor’s appointments. Not easy anymore considering how fragile she is. At least is a warm, but cloudy day today in the 50’s. No complaints!
Happy Monday, everyone! 🌻
Lyric is beautiful,contemplating a bub as it’s 40% off at a local retailer currently!🙈🙈✌🏻
Not to enable or anything, but damn that a great opportunity to snag an incredible scent!!! LOVE Lyric.
Agreed on all points!
And one enabler pin for you!🤫🤣🤣✌🏻
Go for it! It was on sale here a few months ago, and I (ahem) alerted my spouse to the fact, along with a list of the 4 samples I wanted along with it. So guess what I got for Christmas!
Oh happy days!!
Arc store here has a couple of Memo’s and Amouage at 40% off, soooo tempted!!
If I were you, I would grab a bottle immediately! 40% off is a great deal! 🌹🌹🌹
You definitely need that BUB!
40% off!?! IF it doesn’t break the bank, get it!
It is rose-ish, and I should have noticed before I made 1/13 a rose cp. Maybe I will change it later today.
Maybe most NSTers don’t associate the Pantone color with roses, like me. But we can always do a rose week later (Valentine’s day?)
Done…we’ll do rose on 2/10.
Great! Thanks! 🌹
You smell wonderful! Hope things went well for your mom.
Thank you, Ringthing!
Hope all went today!
Thank you, Lillyjo. She will be admitted in the hospital tomorrow morning and will stay there most likely for the rest of the week. Hoping for the best.
Hoping for the best right along with you!
Thank you, Robin!
Glad that the weather was nice for your Mom’s appointments. Sending you thoughts of courage and strength for what is to come.
Thank you, Jalapeno!
I’m in Untitled L’Eau from a new decant.
New year, new decant
Wearing Scents of Wood Praline in Maple and it’s yummy. Still working on packing, need to switch to a different suitcase. I just know I’ll get there and have forgotten something important.
That sounds yummy!
I never get anywhere without forgetting something important. The fun is in discovering what that something is
While packing I always tell myself “it’s ok to forget something.” Being a high achiever I usually forget TWO things, so I”m never disappointed in myself.
I’m glad Donatella is coming by soon, because I have some confessing to do. I made a resolution for this year to only buy perfume in person. I have a good sized collection, live in a real city and travel occasionally, so this is 100% reasonable. Of course I ordered several perfumes that I can’t get in person before 2022 was over.
Today I’m in my first new bottle – Freeway by 4160 Tuesdays. I sampled it when it was released, loved it but wasn’t buying at that time. I had no hope it was still available but was browsing Luckyscent on Christmas Eve and there it was!
I took a digital break yesterday, so a very happy belated new year to everyone.
When I first saw that photo, I thought it was a picture of insoles or orthopedic insoles…! I love this Pantone color but love it more if it’s a darker cranberry-mulberry-merlot mix with a dash of purple. It’s a chef’s kiss of a color and I’m drawn to it like a magnet.
I’m in Initio Side Effect from a rapidly dwindling split sampler. It’s a bit dark and a bit sweet and wholly wearable. Like a decadent dessert, it’s quite rich and a bit boozy. Great scent for welcoming in the new year.
Still trying to get my van looked after because everyone is STILL closed, but very thankful it’s running without a problem. I want to get Moby ship-shape because he’s for sale starting next month. I’ll miss him something terrible and will be sure give him a hug and a kiss goodbye, and hope he gets to a new home that will take good care of him.
The forest service emailed me back and will be calling me Thursday morning. I sure hope there is a possibility of medical insurance because if not, it’s a no go.
Happy New Year to all! Hope 2023 is filled with all kinds of wonder and joy! Not to mention a bottle or two of a splendid scent..!
Deva, I completely agree with you about Pantone Magenta! The photo took me right back to my childhood, our old rubber hot water bottle 🙃
Ha! I think I know that exact hot water bottle! 😄
PS do you have the successor to Moby chosen already?
Yes, I do! It’s waiting for me and I’m impatient to pick him up, hopefully the end of this month. My schedule is a bit of a headache- 2 on, 2 off, two on, 1 off, 1 on, 2 off…🙄
And of end the month I have 5 days off in a row, so will hop up to the Seattle area to pick him up, get it all adjusted, and make sure everything is working, then head back down here until mid March. Then who knows..? Life is a crapshoot, so I’m just rollin’ and hoping for the best! 😊
Good luck with fixing up Moby and getting his successor on the road!
Oh, geez! Sistine, I did it again! So sorry!
No worries! It’s a pleasure to share space with you. I hope the forest service gig comes through!
Thank you and thank you! 4160 is another brand I’d like to try but never will because I’m quite sure I have enough perfume! Immediately thought of this song when I saw the name of your perfume …
I just looked up Freeway on Luckyscent, boy does that sound good!
“A light, foamy vanilla froths around the dry, papery notes for a result that smells like eating a thimbleful of insanely rich, perfumery orange blossom gelato in an antique book store.” — is that accurate?
It is, but with a tobacco note floating in there too. I smell great today!
Wow, that does sound great.
Yay for digital breaks when needed! Happy New Year to you, sistine!
Happy New Year – may it bring better things.
Taking the last day of my winter break off in the remnants yesterday’s vintage Coriandre EDP which is about as un-magenta as it gets.
Happy New Year!
It really is the polar opposite, but you smell great!
Happy New Year to you, spiderplant!
I suppose that Pantone magenta will be a rose, won’t it? Not one of the inky-dark roses I love, but something brighter. We’ll see what Friday brings.
Today I’m in Demeter Fiery Curry, neither truly fiery nor especially curried: I expect it’s what you’d end up with if you rubbed a little curry powder between your palms and came back to it a few hours later, a warm yellow-orange glow. It is *really* nice.
Or rhubarb? Pomegranate?
Have to think harder, that is what I have come up with so far.
Random question, but is anyone familiar with the Dedcool fragrances?
Some really sound interesting like Red Dakota and there’s a nicely sized sample set available locally.
I’ve tried several of their fragrances. I bought travel sizes of three of them – Taunt (no. 1), No. 2 and No. 4. I say go for the sample set – I’d be surprised if there’s nothing you like.
I did go for the sample set!
Mr. Skal and I are heading off to a matinee of The Banshees of Inishirin — we have to drive all the way to Rochester (just about a full hour each way) to see it as a first-run film. I spent the morning working on spring syllabi, so I’m ready for a break. Commando for now, and probably will wait until we return from the cinema to choose a fragrance. The Pantone color is also one that I really cannot wear; I need more blue in my magenta.
Courage and best wishes to everyone who is heading back to work today!
Hope the movie was wonderful!
same feeling for me, more blue would be prettier.
hope you will share your experience with the movie!
The movie was outstanding. Brutal, emotionally. I thought it evoked a sense of isolation and hopelessness very well. Colin Farrell was a huge surprise — not the type of roper I’ve seen him in before, but then again, I still think of him as the youngster from Ballykissangel.
oh! thank you I hoped you’d find the movie a favorable experience. I’m planning to go to a movie or two this week.
Glad to hear that you stayed in for New Year’s Eve, and went out when you felt better about it.
Whatever happened to those fancy panettones? 🤣
I also immediately associate that lovely color with a nice big fragrant rose, so I’m wearing my new Christmas gift to myself, YSL Paris (n.b., NOT “Mon Paris”). It’s such a beautiful scent, I’m happy I finally bought myself a bottle as a “stocking stuffer” lol. (My mom used to wear it.) This color might also be associated with a geranium or big lush peony, too, and maybe other flowers I’m not thinking of now. (Azaleas too, and bougainvilleas, but I don’t think they have particular fragrances.)
I’m always amused at New Year’s lists forecasting the latest trends in things like interior design, bathroom decor, etc.; these are surely the things that will become passé before you even know it. Sigh. I sometimes watch the HGTV channel and every single house now is “open concept” with a stark white kitchen, black and gold fixtures and lighting, and white quartz countertops. I giggled or rather smirked when a young wife out home-shopping in the $750,000 range with her also-young husband declared “I simply cannot LIVE with those granite countertops.” God, lady, get a life.
I love your synopsis of the “current cool”!
When I was a kid,the midcentury modern furniture my mom so dearly loved was soooo out of fashion. Now it’s everywhere!
LOL, I realize I sounded very snobby, but so be it. I am a lady of a certain age. ;-).
IMHO, people who insist on having all of the latest in design trends are substituting conventions of taste for their own taste.
I know what you mean about mid-century modern. I just can’t stand it as it looks so old-fashioned to me, having grown up with it. Ugh. Those linoleum-covered tables with aluminum legs and sides make me cringe.
Especially those, and yet they sell for $$$$$$ now!
There are some beautiful woodwork, but the veneers I don’t like and some designs are just too linear.Gimme a LouisVI curl and a twist!!🤣🤣🤫✌🏻
LOL, yes, my tastes are quite eclectic. I don’t really have a style but I do like some Arts & Crafts stuff, which is sort of the antithesis of Mid-Century Modern, though not Mission Style–I hate oak furniture. My ex- and I had fundamental taste differences, though he leaned toward ultra sleek and modern, somewhat industrial styles. He once told me with scorn, “you’re filling the house with all that ethnic shit.” The beginning of the end.
When we were house shopping in August 2020 our realtor told us that no one wanted open concept homes. Walls and doors were very desirable during lockdown.
Isn’t that interesting! I’m kind of glad to hear it. I despise hearing “open concept” as a home desideratum. As in, “We want x many square feet, a one-story, swimming pool, and an open concept.”
I kinda like that! One floor and a pool! I don’t care about concept, but I’ve lived mid-century most of my life and I could happily change it up.
I can’t stand those sterile, all white kitchens. White cabinets show fingerprints even if you think about them! No thanks.
The whole magenta/ raspberry/ slightly bluish pink spectrum is right up my alley! I would have everything in my house these colors, with some dabs of taupe and leafy sagey green to tone it down a little in the more public spaces. My husband would never come home-his Idea of a color scheme is slate blue and lighter slate blue and a dash of cobalt blue to perk things up! So, I have adopted the Bohemian idea of interior decoration, and have as many different colors as possible so there is always something we each like!
Happy 2023! It 47 degrees and raining where I am. I am wearing Vivacious, and lemming the cute Fragonard bottle of Narcissus! I have some bulbs I never got in the ground in October. I should go ahead and plant them now!
yes to narcissus, that Fragonard bottle is so pretty, and the best time to plant them is “now”
I was hoping to plant more daffodils last fall but didn’t get to it, so hoping all the old ones are spreading like crazy
I don’t generally associate scent with color except for green, which will make next week’s CP fairly easy. For this week, uhhh … I got nuthin. Maybe Rose Anonyme? Although that one makes me think more of oxblood or deep maroon than of magenta. I might have a nail polish color close to that bright magenta shade — I’ll look. Anyway, my SOTD is Profumum Alba, my newest love, and I smell great.
You can really interpret it however you like though! Imagine you are wearing a velvet dress in that color — what fragrance do you pick?
Oh, interesting idea. In the case of this week’s color I’d have to make it a velvet skirt rather than dress, to keep the color away from my face, but that’s a very good suggestion. Thanks!
Starting out 2023 with another snowstorm on the way today. We are supposed to have 10-15 inches of snow with 40 mph winds. My husband and I went to get my iced coffees for the next few days along with a pizza for tonight. It sounds like we may not get out again until Wednesday. At least we aren’t going to have the terribly cold temperatures.
SOTD is Zoologist Civet. I will do the magenta scents later this week.
I’m gonna need some pointers as I do not know which scents to associate with this color!🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
Think warm, luscious, generous, flirty, kind of like raspberries or bright flowers, pretty lipsticks, cranberry cocktails, bubbly rose wines….
I agree with Calypso. I was thinking dark rose or raspberry.
This is the color I always associate with Une Rose de Kandahar by Tauer. A deep tone on tone burgundy-Merlot-raspberry-wine damask, to be exact! 😀
Hunker down, Kris!
Oh no, already! Glad you have the essentials taken care of
I know. My essentials should be fruits and veggies rather than coffee and carbs. Oh well, that’s for another day.
I saw your weather on my news earlier. Glad you’re getting stocked up on the ice coffee. Stay safe!
The coffee shop laughs at me.
Yuck on the incoming storm! Glad to hear that you have your essentials and can hunker down until it passes.
I’d love to send you some of my weather. It is freakishly warm here for January, which makes me nervous.
We will take your weather.
I got a Jovoy discovery set for Christmas and I think it is going to end up costing me a lot more money than the initial outlay. There are a lot of scents in there that I would really like a full bottle of. Today I am wearing Psychelique or something like that, which is not FB worthy, but still nice. Today is my first day in a couple of weeks that my husband is back at I am really missing him and our 17 year old cat Kokoro who passed away on Christmas Eve. The house feels very empty.
Oh, I’m very sorry to hear about Kokoro. That’s a very good age for a cat, but a sad time to lose such a precious family member. Hugs.
Sending you a hug on this day that you feel lonely. I’m very sorry to hear of the loss of your cat.
I am so sorry to hear about Kokoro! Sending hugs and love. 🌻
I’m very sorry for your loss of Kokoro.
I am so sorry. It is tough how quiet and empty the house can feel. I hope Koroko has visited you with signs or in dreams.
So sorry about the loss of your cat.
i’m so sorry about Kokoro, that kitty-shaped empty space is hard to fill after so many years.
Adding more condolences for the loss of Kokoro, that is so hard.
So sorry to hear this! 💔
Aw, very sorry to hear about your sweet Kokoro kitty passing over the rainbow bridge! Especially at this time of year. 😿😿
So sorry about losing your friend, that’s so hard.
sotd = Vol de Nuit edt
Going with old school perfumery for the new year I’m a Guerlain girl through and through.
LOVE that pantone color, magenta was my favorite color for fingerpaint in Kindergarten.
Now it’s time for yoga with Adriene, she’s got a new 30 day series on youtube. YAY!
Dear NSTers, I hope you will be warm, well, and happy today and throughout 2023.
Happy New Year tiffanie!
thank you, lillyjo! feels good to be here
Happy New Year! I need more yoga in 2023 as well.
thank you, Sapphire! Happy new year to you.
and as for yoga – do it! the hardest part is showing up.
ME THREE…that is one of my main goals for 2023.
The magenta crayon was one of my favorites in the big box of Crayolas with the sharpener in it when I was a kid.
yes! I loved that crayon color, too. The big box with that magical sharpener made my little heart so happy.
I spent the morning at the car service place having them look at my breaks. The good news is they said they were fine and didn’t charge me for the inspection. They did however charge me an arm and a leg for an oil and filter change and 1 blinker bulb.
My sotd is Jessica McClintock. Thinking Spring! I’m not cp complient but I do have this…
You smell pretty!
Sorry about the car. They always get you for the extras. Don’t they realize that’s perfume money?
Lol! I should point that out next time.
See? And spritz Angel if they don’t get it. A full bottle in your purse.
Yay for those brakes being ok. My oil change place is so quick and efficient, which I love, but they always try to upsell me on extra services. Makes me cringe. The oil change is already the price of a new FB.
I know! The day of $19.99 oil change are long gone.☹️
Last time I got my oil changed, the total made me cringe! The van does require more oil than a car, but still! Glad your brakes are good. They’re fairly important for stopping 😉 I changed my blinker myself because the bulb was only 1.99 at the auto parts store and I’m sure a garage would have charged me for a full hour of labor..! I also had to go buy the right size socket at Home Depot, which was 7.99, then changed it out in their parking lot. Took about 10 minutes. Probably couldn’t have gotten out of the mechanics for less than $50…💸💸💸
Yeah I know it could have been done cheaper. I went with the convenience. What gets me is the filter 60 bucks!
You know it!
Glad to hear that your brakes were OK!
So was my wallet!
I have taken down the outdoor Christmas decorations and made a quick trip to Ikea (it was packed) for a new underbed storage container for my perfume boxes as the other one is full. I’m wearing Panthere de Cartier this morning.
I’m about to take down my tree. It seems like we just put everything up!
Keep it up. 🎄 is celebrated until January 6 in Catholic church. I love that. Extended time. Then, I waffle taking them down.
Hot chocolate, pretty snow and Christmas decorations. ❤❤❤
yay for keeping the tree up! One year my kids asked to keep the (artificial) tree set up through January, so we added paper snowflakes. Then in February they wanted to add paper hearts. March and April we added flowers . . . our neighbors thought we were nuts, but we loved it.
I love that idea! I will give it serious consideration! 🎄
Nice idea for storage. Mine are in target tubs, in a dark room. Pretty.😂 And the vintage in the basement. Or the citrus fridge. Or…
No wonder I keep buying the same perfumes.
Snow Fairy strikes again!
As Donatella makes her rounds, I don’t know how much I can reveal.🙄 This November-December is crazy.
Happy day, everyone!
Reveal All! I like to live vicariously. Lol. ( although I will be confessing myself)
Can i say they were all gifts?
You sure can!😀
I’d love to hear about the “gifts” you got! 😉
I wore my most magenta fragrance over the weekend, Aerin Evening Rose. Not office-friendly enough, so will have to wear it again on one of my days off. SOTD is Guerlain Elixir Charnel Oriental Brulant, which is nice and cozy for a rainy afternoon. Getting caught up on some charts for work and thinking about taking down the Christmas tree, but will have to banish the new kittens to the laundry room or I will have too much “help.” Lucy and Ricky came home with us two days before Christmas. Cute, sweet, and full of mischief. They are learning that the dogs are harmless and our older cat, Sparky, is the boss. But the tiny arched backs, puffy tails and hissing are too funny!
Omg I love that their names are Lucy and Ricky!
Your new furry family members sound too freaking cute!
Running late today! First load of laundry in the new year, and it was a BIG one. Now I have a bunch of dishes in the dishwasher.
SOTD = back in Iris Torrefie. A pretty, but somewhat melancholy iris on me. It’s suited both the weather and my mood lately.
I’m on my 3rd load of laundry right now. It never ends!
No, it doesn’t! And dishes are just as bad.
**whispers** i love doing laundry so satisfying even tho it is neverending .
Laundry is definitely preferable to dishes in my book! Folding a load of clean towels is almost meditative…
