Happy Hump Day! It's also the third day of Kwanzaa (Ujima: collective work and responsibility) and the fourth day of Christmas (4 calling birds). Birthdays: Earl Hines, Pops Staples, Maggie Smith. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm staying warm in Donna Karan Black Cashmere.
Reminder: on 12/30, we're doing Best of 2022...wear your favorite new release of the year, or your favorite purchase of the year, or the fragrance you wore the most in 2022, or interpret this project however you like.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Happy Wednesday! ☕️
Happy Wednesday pl67!☕️🌞
You smell absolutely wonderful today. Happy Wednesday to you too, pl67! 😊
Thank you! 😊
You smell amazing! Happy Wednesday!
Thank you, Holly! 🌻
I am so thankful and happy to be back from my long (though fun, a 800 mile drive is taxing) family reunion and beach trip, so thanks, PL67 – I will have a happy Wednesday!
Home sweet home! 💃
Happy Wednesday back atcha!
Chanel Paris – Paris from 2022, and a cup of Irish Breakfast tea.
We are patchouli twins. I tried that one when I was in Nordies, and found it very patchouli forward on my skin. I think the juice is a beautiful color. It also lasted longer than most of the others in that line on me. One of those when I would get a whiff of something good hours later and wonder what smelled so good, and realized it was me!
Oooooooooh, based on your description, I should give Paris-Paris a sniff!
If you like patchouli, you definitely should! This may sound odd, but somehow it reminded me of Angel. Although a very watered down lighter version.
Hi Patchouli twin
Chanel Paris Paris reminds me of Gris Dior
I’m in my Grounding essential oil with notes of patchouli, clove and ylang ylang. It is just what I need to dip my toe back into wearing fragrance after the last several days where the thought of fragrance was just yuck.
After avoiding it for two and a half years plus, Santa brought me 🦠 for Christmas. I started with a sore throat on the 23rd, tested positive Christmas Eve and by Christmas Day, I was down for the count. Fever, intense body aches and chills. I literally spent the entire day in bed. I mostly slept on and off, and when I wasn’t sleeping I just laid there wishing for time to pass and to feel better. I did not even have the energy to sit up in bed and read or be on my iPad. Just getting up to go to the BR took all the energy I had. On the bright side, because there’s always a bright side right?!, we had no travel plans for the holiday and no one coming to us. All of the shopping had been done, so I could just rest without the accompanying anxiety to hurry up and get better because we need to do xyz. Each day I have felt a little bit better than the last and today I feel almost human again. I’m off work (of course) this week and my girls are home. I’ve been isolating to my bedroom, binging Netflix and eating my meals here. Even though I am starting to feel better, is it wrong for me to continue to have them bring me things?😈 I think not.
The sun is out today and we are supposed to get up to 40! I may put my earbuds in later, bundle up and go for a short walk just so I can feel the sun on my face.🌞
Stay well, everyone!
I am so sorry to hear you got so sick! Hope you are fully recovered very soon! 🌻
Oh man, I’m sorry you’re dealing with the crud! Sounds like you’re getting better, so keep getting better! And no, let those girls take care of you for awhile longer. You raised them to be the wonderful humans they are, and I believe they relish pampering you for a change! 🤗
Aww, thanks Nancyleandros, your words made me get all teary. They are doing such a good job. They are keepers, that’s for sure.☺️
Ugh… I am sorry mtg. Keep resting.
Thanks lillyjo! I will. I’m trying to “lean into” resting and sleeping late because I know it’s what my body needs right now. Hope you get some sun today!🌞
I heard a little bit of a NPR article about some woman who is advocating Naps, not only for health, but as a from of rebellion against the contant pressure of capitalist productivity. So rest until you feel really human! Glad you have your girls to take care of you.
I went and looked it up -Tricia Hershey is her name, Rest is Resistance is the name of her book and she has a web-site called The Nap Ministry. She is a psychologist, but she has moved way beyond “good sleep hygiene ” is good for your brain stuff. Honestly she sounded a little out there in the portion of the interview I heard, so take this recommendation with a grain of salt, but she also sounded smart, so it might be worth looking into more. Naps as resistance is such an entertaining concept, you know?
Thanks! That’s so interesting. I’m going to look that up. Yes, forced downtime can be difficult for me because in my mind (especially on a day off from work) there is so much I “could” be doing.
Oh no! I’m glad you’re feeling better now, and hope you’re fully recovered soon!
Oh boo!! I’m sorry to hear you got COVID. It’s great to hear that you’re feeling well enough to consider going for a walk. I hope your full recovery arrives very soon!
Thanks sistine! I think my body, and psyche, could use the fresh air and sun. Even if it’s just for a walk around the block.
Definitely get out for fresh air when you are able! So sorry and glad you are doing better.
Adding that you need to get better so you can do the annual Adriene yoga January journey with me!
Ha! Yes! I was just thinking about that.
Thanks! I will, fresh air and sunshine are magic.🌞
Oh no, what a shame over Christmas. I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better.
Thanks! I know, I’m just glad my 70+ year old parents weren’t here.
Oh no!! I begin to think it will get all of us eventually. Glad you have minions there to bring you things
Thanks! Yes, I agree. Frankly I’m shocked I made it this long. My h had it this summer and I slept in the same bed for several nights before we knew and I somehow escaped it then.
Wow, that is lucky! We made it til September.
Glad to hear you are on the mend!
Sending you great big hugs, MTG! So glad you are feeling better and sorry you were sick for Xmas.
Mini She-ra tested positive for it on 12/9 and still has a cough. I masked for about 5 days and somehow sidestepped it again this round. Mr. She-ra had in July and did not get this time either so perhaps he had some immunity still.
Thanks She-ra! Oh, poor mini She-ra, that’s a long time to have a cough. Hope she’s fully well soon!
Oh boo, so sorry you caught the plague! It’s wonderful to see the sun, hope you can get a bit of fresh air.
Thanks ringthing! I even cracked my window open just a bit to help air out my sick room.
So sorry your Xmas was ruined, feel better soon so that you can celebrate the new year.
Thanks Aurora! We really didn’t have any major plans, and my family managed to make my Swedish meatball recipe without me- I was impressed!
Hope you’re feeling better, and I had not heard of Grounding EO’s. That blend sounds wonderful: ylang, clove, and patch?! Sign me up. Mr. Mossy is under the weather after our two day return road trip and I think I am going to dodge any viruses, but we are both taking it slooowww.
Thanks MB! Yes, take it slow and stay healthy!🤞
The blend is from a localish company
I’ve tried many of her soaps and really like them.
OH! Thanks for the link.
A big, fat “FEH” on getting COVID for Xmas! Worst. Present. Ever! Glad to hear that you are feeling better bit by bit.
Thanks Jalapeño! Yeah, definitely worst Christmas present ever!🤧🤒😷
Oh no! Definitely take all the time you need to rest. I am trying my best to not catch it but it may be inevitable at some point.
Thanks hajusuuri! I will.👍 I hope you can continue to avoid getting it!
Very cold today, -14°C, with the windchill making it even colder, and you’d think I’d be bundled up in something warm, but after the gym and the shower I put on vintage Eau de Courrèges, a lemony cologne with a very unexpected woody chypre base, from back in the day when even a cologne had some structure and some lasting power.
It’s always nice to smell summer in the middle of winter
I’m in Carner Barcelona Cuirs, from a Scentbird decant. I’m making an effort to go through my decants and reorganize them to utilize them better. It’s a project! 🙃
I have a couple of errands today that I need to get done, since it will be raining tomorrow. Hey, it’s also National Chocolate Candy Day today, but for some reason I can’t get all excited about it. Could it possibly be that I’ve had way to much of the stuff in the past couple of weeks? Naaaah…..
HA, I have been likewise celebrating National Chocolate Candy Day in advance!
We’ve had so much candy, and came home to find kind neighbors left a box of homemade treats. Not that I’m complaining.
Also jumped ahead for National Chocolate Candy Day earlier this week!
Chanel 19 Poudre for me today. I didn’t like it when I first tried it just because it was like the original in an alternate universe, but that very thing came to grow on me. Now I like it very much.
A little freebie if anyone is interested (sorry limited to Canada only): one Vilhelm discovery set. I tried them once but nothing really grabbed me, but seems a waste to have a pretty set languish in a drawer. I know, slim chances since there are few Canadians here but thought to throw it out there. Shoot me an email at bonanza 29 at hot mail.
It’s funny how they sneak up on you!
Yay! Found a taker for the Vilhelms.
You smell wonderful – another Poudre fan here.
LVdP’s Amber Chocolate. After I sampled this the first time, I remembered that I have Aftelier’s Chocolate Saffron body oil. I never reach for it but should as the two would pair beautifully. Forgot again today!
That sounds like an amazing combo! Let us know when you do try it.
Will do! I have the older very tall glass bottle of the oil, and it’s fun to play with. The cocoa absolute settles at the bottom and when you turn it upside down, it behaves like a lava lamp!
That makes me want it even more.
I’m in Lush’s Karma today. Just wanted something cheerful and it certainly fits the bill!
Our weather is so strange – it was 10 degrees on Saturday morning and by tomorrow it’s forecast to be in the 60s.
Have a safe and happy day everyone!
Yay for cheerful! We have one day in the 60s next week, but unfortunately with rain.
I was in the gardens yesterday and the heat brought out the scent of the giant Himalayan Lilies . They are so tall you can’t really sniff them up close but they are all flowering so the air is full of the sweetness. Early here, listening to the sheep bleating from across the valley ( no traffic noise as the town empties at Christmas ) and the birds jangling away. All the windows are open and the sun is just lighting the tree tops. Beautiful day. Wearing Gris Clair , a perfume I like in summer warmth.
Keep warm up there!
Yay, so glad to hear summer has finally arrived for you!
Yay for air full of sweetness and jangling birds!
What a beautiful description of your day, thanks! And you smell great, too.
Sounds completely idyllic!
Hurray for a beautiful day!
Wow, your description made me look up Himalayan lilies, and they really are enormous! I’d love to smell them some day.
Lovely thoughts to read here where it’s Winter!
Thanks for the scents and sounds of your summer.
Ormonde Woman, a contender for the CP as the bottle is new to me. ♥
I saw that it was National Fruitcake Day yesterday but I couldn’t quite get it together to make my annual winter stollen. I’ll be making it by the end of the week for sure.
Gorgeous day after tons of rain and I’m planning a 5 mile walk shortly.
You smell perfectly gorgeous for this gorgeous (so far rain free) day😊
Congratulations on your new bottle! I love that one!
My Mom used to make fruitcake cookies, which were delicious!
Wearing no 5 edp today and dealing with my crazy puppy today. She is crazier than normal today. I guess getting spayed didn’t curb her craziness. But she is very affectionate.
Joining you in No 5 (edt) – we sure smell good!
Our summer has finally arrived. We’ve had several lovely days in a row and while I’m on holiday!
After a short visit to stay with my mother for Christmas, I’m now enjoying nearly two weeks of pottering about home with not much on my list of things to do.
I’m thinking of wearing OJ’s Ta’if after my shower. I finally bought a FB a few months ago, years after I first tried it.
And I meant to say, after crowing about our summer, that I hope everyone in the US storm is OK. The temperatures and the snow are unbelievable
Yay for good weather and time off!
Hurray for summer and pottering about! Taif is lovely!
What Holly said!
Glad that summer finally decided to show up for you!
Poured rain all night here, now just a bit cloudy. I’m enjoying a lazy day at home with no errands to run. Lounging with the dog, wearing Meo Fusciuni Narcotico, a patchouli scent. His line is very eclectic and very much not blind buy safe, but lately I’ve been exploring it and have found three I enjoy: Luce, Notturno and Narcotico. Thanks to foxbins for alerting me to the house by mentioning her purchase of Luce.
I have run my errands and have dentist tomorrow, so jealous…enjoy the lounging!
A lazy day with a favorite furry friend is awesome!
Sounds like a great day!
Happy belated Christmas to all! No perfume yet but I may wear Meringa today.
Was debating blind buying Jo Malone Rose Water & Vanilla which has been rereleased but cazaubon’s helpful intel in yesterday’s thread has given me pause and I may wait to see if my local store gets a tester.
oh, I will have to go back and see Cazaubon says, since i had the same impulse. What could they do to Rose Water and Vanilla, unless they just accentuated the water until there is no rose or vanilla there?
Belated Christmas wishes to you and the other She-ras! I missed a lot of NST fun over the holidays!
My Sephora just got the testers this week. I get a Hypnotic Poison vanilla with the play dough.
So in 2003 I worked at a Stila makeup counter in a Nordstrom. My coworker was obsessed with perfume and would always go to the perfume section and come back with something new and lovely for me to smell. Light Blue was one she like to wear pretty often at that time, so it always reminds me of her.
Our counter was next to the Trish McEvoy counter, and all of the Trish perfumes were on display there. We were both obsessed with spraying Trish McEvoy No 9 Blackberry & Vanilla Musk.
I was at Blue Mercury a couple months ago and saw a few Trish perfumes and sprayed on some n9 and suddenly it was 2003 for me
So I bought some for myself for Christmas and I’ve been spraying the heck out of it since then. It has always been pretty fleeting, but since I work from home I keep the bottle on my desk and just spritz away throughout the day. That keeps a nice lovely aura going and I am a happy camper! Even through my year end stress bubble of work, lol.
You reminded me of that time when I was obsessed with Stila makeup. I have a bottle of Trish #9 , it was one of my favourites, I have to find it and wear again.
It’s been a bummer to see Stila’s line reduce over the years, there were some amazing lip and eye shadow colors that aren’t available anymore. The convertible color cream blushes are still great though.
Yes! Dig it out again, it is such a fun wear!
Stila was all the rage back when I joined makeupalley (even though I was mostly on the fragrance board).
What fun!! And I still have palettes of Stila eye shadows & blushes
Love their eye shadows. The original owner was a genius – I am still so partial to a bright cheek color lol!
I still have Kitten eyeshadow. They had some fantastic neutrals that weren’t too shimmery.
What fun! I love to wear perfumes that remind me of a particular time in my life.
I loved Stila makeup. I got a “makeover/ tutorial” at the Stila counter in the Towson Nordstrom in 2005 which ended up being the basis of all my engagement party/ wedding makeup.
“A balanced diet is a donut in each hand.”
Saw that in a local deli/bakery and had to laugh. 🤣
I’m going with SHL 777 Taklamakan today for its warm hug. T-Rex has done her morning ablutions, had her brekkie, and immediately went back under the covers, fleece and all, with only her nose sticking out so she doesn’t miss a whiff of my breakfast.
Back to work for four in a row tonight, hope this old gal can pull it off…😐
Retire now! It’s very freeing! I will have to indulge in the balanced pastry diet ….LOL!
I’m hoping to next year, at least from nursing and night shifts. I hope you thoroughly enjoy your retirement and have a lot of fabulous plans as to what you’ll be doing, where you’ll be going, and the full on joy of having to answer to NO ONE for the rest of your life! 😃
I can’t even imagine that feeling.
Thank you for the good wishes! I hope that for you too! And everyone, actually!
Ooo genius! Baked goods are peak experience
They are! 😃
😁The best promotion of donuts I ever read. Good luck on your four days of work in a row.
Thank you! ☺️
Finally, I can achieve a balanced diet!
I hope your work schedule isn’t too grueling.
I’m giving Kerosene Copper Skies another proper wearing today. It’s lovely but very understated, especially when compared to Broken Theories (the only other Kerosene I’ve experienced much of), and it’s actually longer-lived than I initially gave it credit for. I still think I don’t need a FB, but if they ever do a travel size, I’ll be on it in a jiffy.
I would LOVE for Kerosene to carry small bottles, I think they would be very popular.
Agreed. I would buy several.
I am in Tam Dao today, it is soothing but more activating that any of my other Sandalwood perfumes, which tend to make flop into a delighted stupor…4 more days or work – 3 this week, and my last day on January 13! I do have some things I need to finish up, but I am getting nothing done! La la…
I understand! The last two weeks before I retired, I was there in body only. I went out for a lot of retirement lunches and sometimes didn’t go back to work. What could they do, fire me?
Countin’ ’em down!!
Days, hours, minutes…as they used to say in the military, ( and maybe still do) I’m short!
I’m wearing Zoologist Civet this morning and doing all the end of year things that need doing. This is when I review my subscriptions and cancel the ones I don’t use and add new ones, shred the eight-year-old tax papers and make a new folder for 2023, and put a new toothbrush head on the toothbrush. (That last one happens quarterly, on the solstices or thereabouts.) It makes me feel organized going into the new year.
Wow, you ARE organized foxbins! I salute you.
I like doing that end-of-year prep, too. It gets me ready for tax season.
You smell wonderful and I like your year-end clean up!
I have Civet too and really enjoy it. Zoologist perfumes are interesting. Some of them I love and others I really don’t care for.
Collecting CP points for Fox in the Flowerbed body oil and perfume, it smells like early spring to my nose. It feels like early spring outside with melting snow and sunshine….I’ll take it. Have a fragrant afternoon 🌹
It absolutely feels like early spring! Way early spring. 🌷
One of my favorite scents in the spring and summer.
Glad to see many of you in the US are getting better weather, here it’s very mild and raining.
I wore Noa to run errands and tonight I am in vintage Tabu since I think it was Pyramus wore it a while back and that reminded me I have have two little 20ml bottles, well I think it’s 20ml the package doesn’t specify.
Aurora, I am hoping that this winter will not have a lot of wild temperature swings in it! Going from a high of 17F sometime last week to 61F later on this week is totally ridiculous.
It does sound crazy, I hope you will have a mild weather from now on. Climate change with all those unexpected weather events is real.
I’m expecting a lot of rain the rest of the week. It’s not good because all the snow will melt and we will have some flooding.
If it’s not one thing it’s another. Lol.
Oh my, snow blizzard then flooding sound awful, hope your house won’t be affected.
In vintage Shalimar edt for comfort today.
You smell wonderful. I hope you are finding comfort, SarahN
I hope it helped!
Today I’m wearing Mojave Ghost from a sample. I like it but not enough to buy any. I went back to physical therapy today after taking awhile off due to having Covid. It went OK but I can tell I’m weaker and by the time I had stopped for a few groceries and got home I was completely exhausted.
I bought myself a bottle of YSL Paris for Christmas and now am planning to wear that one tomorrow. It’s something my mom used to wear and I’ve always liked it a lot. If I had felt ambitious enough to hang up some stockings this year it would have been a nice stocking stuffer.
Yay for getting back to PT!
If you’d like a decant of Mojave Ghost please email me at payne underscore cm at yahoo dot com.
I hope the physical therapy goes well. My father and brother have both had amazing recoveries from injury that they 100% credit to their physical therapists.
That’s a great Christmas present for yourself!
A little unpacking and laundry; a little other housework. Back from a beach trip with one week spent Mr. Mossy’s brother and his wife, who we have not spent time with in almost 10 years. We saw them briefly last Summer and do talk from time to time. It went very well and now we are all friends again-familiar jokes and similar interests came up easily. We had decent weather and even got some swimming in the first week. But the big cold snap reached down to North Florida so it was earmuffs and overcoats the last three days! Saw some dolphins and eagles, and I love reading and looking up at the changing seascapes. Still good to be home with the kitties. Sotd Honour Woman. I like it and will likely thunk my decant. After that, not sure.
There’s no place like it😸
Glad you made it home safely and I bet the kitties are happy to see you!
We were happy they have been so snuggly.
I’m glad your trip with Mr. Mossy’s brother and wife went so well.
Honour Woman is very nice.
Glad it was a good vacation!
Honour is not much like anything else I have. It’s making me think.
It’s lovely you get on so well with family, isn’t it?
Another day, another trip to the grocery store. This time I got everything that I forgot from yesterday’s list, plus all the things that we ran out of overnight. Hopefully I am *done* until after New Year’s!
SOTD = still commando from perfume and still wearing perfumed lotion on my shins.
Good that you were able to get your shopping done. I stopped by Whole Foods today and had to wait quite a long time for someone to help me at the fish counter (they were paged twice). Anyway, there was a specific piece of fish I wanted which happened to be closest to me but farthest from him. He hemmed and hawed and said they were all the same! Ummmm, no. Even looking at the pieces, some had different coloring! The guy was crabby and I really should get his name and complain about him; it wasn’t the first time he was crabby.
Definitely some irony in Mr. Crabby working at the fish counter!
That’s exactly what I thought! Hilarious!
Our regular fish counter at Kroger has been closed a couple of times because of understaffing. But at least they are helpful when they are there!
Is your perfume skin getting any better?
It is, slowly but surely.
The cold weather is so drying, that may be a factor.
SOTD = Zoologist Sacred Scarab
… because ringthing wore it yesterday. I love it but it does not last long at all for me. 8 sprays = 4-5 hours but I cannot overspray in the morning as the aldehydes are very present.
I may repeat this question again tomorrow. I’m curious to know if you are traveling First Class are you supposed to be free from the distractions that a baby / toddler may bring? Personally, and maybe it’s because I am a commuter and unless there are written terms & conditions that prohibit it, I have no say in this matter unless my physical space is being encroached upon without my permission. I don’t consider noise part of physical space.
It’s been a very long time since I was seated in First Class on an airplane. But the only perks I remember were free alcoholic drinks and bigger seats. Oh, and real food instead of snacks. That last one gives away how long ago it was!
I like Sacred Scarab.
Been a while since I went first class too, but would have to go along with Jalapeno.
Oh, wanted to let you know I sent you an email hajusuuri on another issue.
I did not see the email.
I haven’t been on an airplane since 1996 and it wasn’t first class. I think though that first class wouldn’t have an age restriction. I always thought it meant more room and better service but truly I know nothing. I just like participating 😀
I have been sampling a few tuberose scents from Rogue that Irisjasmine told me about. I think I see a FB of Champs Lunaires in my future although I like Tuberose and Moss as well. Decisions, decisions.
My official sotd was Guerlain Rose Cherie. I am really really liking it. I am currently wearing JM Rose Vanilla on one hand (reminds me of Hypnotic Poison but more play doughy) and Rose Blush on the other hand. Now this I like! For the life of me I can’t think of what it reminds me of but it’s very rosy with something peppery. I keep thinking Stella meets Miu Miu.
Rose Cheri is beautiful. Wish it wasn’t so darn expensive.
I know! I will never see a full bottle in my house that’s for sure.
I ought to re-sniff Hypnotic Poison next time I see a bottle. I didn’t like it when it came out, but that was before I fell down the perfumed rabbit hole. I might like it now.
Oh, Rose Chérie sounds so good, I don’t have any of the l’Art et la Matière either, and have never tasted any either. Rose Blush I’ve never heard of, off to investigate.
