Tuesday scent of the day 12/20

Posted by Robin on 20 December 2022 105 Comments

It’s Tuesday and the third night of Hanukkah. Also, National Sangria Day, International Human Solidarity Day, and there are 11 more days to go for 2022. What fragrance are you wearing?

Me: day 2 in Fendi Theorema, and listening to Christmas music while drinking a cup of Upton Christmas tea with a splash of half & half.

Reminder: on 12/23, we'll have a holiday open thread instead of a weekly project.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image shows Festive Blend Tea Caddy Glass Ornament ("This novelty bauble is shaped as a tea tin. The festive holiday decoration is a golden orange tea caddy which features glitter details and a label on the front decorated with holly and berries pattern that says 'organic festive blend loose leaf tea'", currently $8.60 on Etsy.

I’m in the quite Christmas-like Dark Horse, with its cinnamon and cloves. I really need a full bottle of this.

Hi all! Wearing Zoologist Sacred Scarab today, which I really, really like. Much more than I thought I would. I ordered a sample of Cardinal yesterday and am looking forward to trying it.

Diptyque Tam Dao EDP today from the advent calendar. Wow, I really enjoy this. Can’t believe I had forgotten about it! No full bottle for me until I finish this travel spray though.

I saw this photo someone posted on Fragrantica of their Xmas tree decked with miniature perfume bottle ornaments. Such a cute idea! https://www.fragrantica.com/fragram/fp/145241

Alternatively, here is my favorite tree ornament as seen on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/577550133/real-chicken-nugget-with-santa-hat

      It cracks me up everytime!

This is very cute and funny, thanks for sharing. It reminds me of this jewelry designer who dips fun candy pieces in resin to preserve them and fashions them into jewelry piece. But this is way more kitschy fun!

I think someone here at NST was actually using miniature perfume bottles to decorate a Xmas tree last year. I wish I could remember who it was.

I’m wafting 24, Faubourg this morning, and trying to summon the will to go out to the garage and start deploying holiday decorations. Should have done it last week when the excitement was fresher. 🎄

We don’t do a tree (too messy) so I put tree ornaments here and there, mostly in bowls. I do have a tiny “tree” (8-inch high needle cone with teensy ornaments all over and tiny wrapped presents underneath) that my mom decorated for me decades ago, and I put that on a tabletop somewhere. We usually leave the decorations out until New Years Day, and by then I want the clutter gone. 😁

It’s 10C and the cloud is so low that I can’t see the neighbour’s house through the mist. Both dogs are snuggled under the bed covers and I am tucked up under the duvet. Come on summer solstice! Christmas is the time for frolicking in the waves, walking on the beach, lounging in the sun and we’re just being tortured with sixteen hours of murky daylight and not even a hint of sunburn. Even the washing is hanging damp on the line. Again. All the cats in the neighbourhood seem to spend their days crouching beneath the parked cars along the road, sheltering from the constant drizzle. They peer out morosely and who can blame them. Wearing Ys-Uszac Jeanne, lovely lemon notes.

It’s very blowy and rainy here today. Typical PNW winter weather, but it’s 16* F warmer here than where I came from so I’ll take it! Currently sheltered in a little circle of trees which buffers the wind and they aren’t close enough to fall on the van.

I’m wearing Angel’s Share because I treasure my little travel size and it was easy to grab. But, certainly a great scent for this weather! I can definitely see using your this entire thing in the next little while…

The beach here is lovely- wide open and you’re able to drive your vehicle along the length of it. I didn’t try with Moby since he’s quite stout and 2WD only. Parking is gravel packed sand and just a step over to the actual beach. No fees to park! Also an expansive state park 2 miles from the hospital and the Discovery Trail, which is great for biking but of course the weather is not!

I had excellent fish and chips at a local place on the beach Sunday. It was salmon and not cod, but the price!!😳 Best fish and chips I ever had but will not be going back due to the price. Very nice everyday people here with a distinct rarity of fillers, implants, Mercedes, and BMW’s. Not that there anything wrong with those things, but…Three people came up to me in the grocery store (very old school with Pepsi and Coke tin signs still on the wall) and said “Thank you for what you do!” I was in scrubs because I had just been released from the computer testing prison at the hospital. Total 180* from where I was, and so good to be among regular folk…
    I think I love it!

Happy Tuesday to all! Drink your tea or coffee and keep toasty!

Hi. I’m just going to complain for a bit.
Yesterday was 11 years that I lost my mom. I wasn’t able to wallow in any grief because my hot water heater broke. I’ve been staring out my window watching for the repair guy since 9 am. I have to be to work at 4. As many of you know a major winter storm is a brewing. I will be in the blizzard part of the storm. I am supposed to work those days and am trying to give myself permission to not go in to lesson my anxiety. Also Yesterday I received an astronomical bill in the mail for something I thought was resolved year’s ago but as the letter explained it had only been postponed due to covid. Lol. Nobody there worked all this time now they are playing catch up. I haven’t had a shower in 2 days but I plan on dousing myself in No. 19.
    Thanks for listening!

Always ready to listen! Sorry so many things are coming at you at once! I’m still fighting over a hospital bill from a year and a half ago, so I feel ya! I often go 2 (or more if I’m not working and surrounded by Covid, RSV, Influenza) days without a shower. I do the important bits daily and unless I’m dirty/sweaty/stinky why? My hair and skin are super dry and daily showers/shampoos just exacerbate the itchiness. Whether you No 19 or not, you won’t stink! And if they’ve waiting for years to contact you, they can wait years for payment! I hope you call off sick and are able to get sick pay. Retail is not supposed to be open in the middle of a dang blizzard!! What idiot in management is not closing that store?!

After I posted about the shower I thought of you. I don’t stink yet but am afraid if he can’t fix it I will have to get it replaced. Which will take awhile.
For some reason retail here does not close for weather. I can think of 2 times in the last 30 years that it’s actually happened. I guess I have to wait and see how horrible it actually is. Right now though I am thinking I will stay home regardless of pay.

Call out sick. They don’t need to know it’s a mental health day. If anyone asks, tell them you had diarrhea. That usually prevents further discussion! 💩

The worst was one year when it was not only 5 p.m. on Friday, but also December 23. (Looking at this year’s calendar and hoping NOT to experience that again.)

Good luck with everything; I’m sorry you cannot take the day for yourself and to honor your mom.

Another grey overcast winterish day (even though it won’t be winter for two whole days) and I’m aglow in Tauer Une Rose de Kandahar, which I would never peg as a rose scent: it reads a soft, spicy floral incense to me. I like it, but it needs about ten times the roses.

Yes to the Christmas music done by someone you’ve heard of! I don’t care for the current versions.

I was very happy to hear the Peanuts Christmas music on the radio this morning. Some of the other stuff, not so much.

As I was still in Shalimar mood, I thought about Philtre, my no brainer reach but Souffle was easier to grab so I’m in that, quite radiant, I vastly prefer it to the intense version which I also have.

I prefer the original too. I have to really spray lightly with the Intense.

I’m wearing Encens Mythique today, for my last day of work in 2022!

Yesterday I wore Millesime Tonka. Does anyone get a strong note of jasmine in the mid dry down? An almost indolic floral. It’s making me think of Shalimar Souffle or Souffle Intense, which never smelled like Shalimar to me. But maybe now I see the connection.

Another day, another load of dishes done. I currently have 2 presents left to package up, then they can join the others at Mr. Jalapeno’s gift wrapping station. 🎄🎁

    SOTD = repeating Etro Gomma.

This has been a light shopping year for us. A lot of the gifts we are giving this year were purchased in prior years, and have been stashed away, waiting.

Does he wrap gifts so well that it makes you want to save the paper after opening? I love that kind of presentation.

Sadly, the wrapping paper we use makes it much easier to tear open gifts rather than carefully unwrapping them.

    SOTD = Diptyque Kyoto

Love ❤️! I matched the red ornament with that of the bottle.

I walked the neighborhood today hoping to take pictures, which I did. If I were to rate this year’s lawn decors vs. the past 2 years, I would say this year’s was a distant 3rd. The best was 2020 and I think it has a lot to do with the economy.

Interesting! I am seeing more Xmas lights and decorations in my neighborhood this year versus last year.

Maybe it was too early in the day but it was almost full on dark when I got home.

SotE is L’Ombre does Merveilles. This is a recent purchase, and I’m really loving the tea note in it.

Robin, I copied your use of a sprinkle of nutmeg in my tea today, with the usual milk and a not-usual bit of sugar. It made a plain black teabag special! 😋

Oh good!!! I keep a little nutmeg grinder right by my teas for just that reason.

That’s a great idea! And this afternoon I’ve done one better – instead of milk and sugar, I added vanilla ice cream. 😁
