Monday scent of the day 12/19

Posted by Robin on 19 December 2022 115 Comments

It's Monday and the second night of Hanukkah. Also, National Oatmeal Muffin Day, and there are 12 more days to go for 2022. Birthdays: Italo Svevo, Carter G. Woodson, Jean Genet, Édith Piaf, Cicely Tyson, Richard Leakey. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Fendi Theorema to get in the holiday spirit.

Reminder: on 12/23, we'll have a holiday open thread instead of a weekly project.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

        Yes! I am ⚽️ !!!

I was happy for Messi. Went out in a blaze of glory.

I am enjoying Shalimar, and wore Le Lion over the weekend. They are similar but different.

It’s odd, I’m generally fonder of Chanel perfumes than Guerlain, except for Shalimar. She’s a category all her own. I gave Le Lion a try, but Shalimar has my heart and nose.

I’m in Guerlain Habit Rouge, which is basically Shalimar Pour Homme. I like it okay though I’ve never *loved* it, but today is snowy and overcast and it just seemed like kind of a Habit Rouge day.

        Sort of!

It really does have that “Shalimar, reconsidered” vibe: the basic structure is similar (citrus + florals + vanilla) but the overall effect is so different.

I like Habit Rouge a lot but it didn’t click with me until I tried a late 90’s bottle of the EdT, which was much richer. The current one has the same idea but a bit condensed.

In Chanel Egoiste again — it suits the holiday mood. Tea is Tazo Juniper Mint and Honey and candle is Etincelles (smoky candied nuts).

They both complement Egoiste well :)

I had a restful weekend to make up for the busy workweek. Gifts are all bought and wrapped, made easy by the fact that I was more selective than usual in choosing who to gift this year. All that is left is to enjoy the holidays now.

Best of luck to all who are still last minute shopping!

In honor of Texas finally getting cold (coldish?) today’s scent is Demeter Snow. The high on Friday is predicted to be 32 degrees. Very unusual for this time of year. There have been many Christmas weeks in the 70s. And of course the weather next week will have highs in the 60s and 70s.

I lived in Houston for a while and I remember how cold 40F feels there, that damp chill that goes right through your clothes. I prefer the colder but dryer air here in the Midwest. Stay warm.

Dragging today after a weekend of successful community show choir performances, and I still have a sick kid at home.

I’m wearing Dusita Issara, which was really pulling at my heartstrings when I first applied it, but luckily for my purse strings, has faded so dramatically that I don’t think I would ever pay its price. It is beautiful, though, and fits with my personal theme of “holiday-ish” for the week.

    Hello all!

I’m in Rose de Nuit today from my newly-rediscovered Lutens box. I forgot how much I love it–apricot musk and rose. Definitely not too sweet.

Getting ready for the Big Freeze this week in Houston. Lucky to have a gas range; I’m mostly worried about losing water if a pipe bursts.

    Stay safe everyone!

I’m glad it was still there for you to enjoy! It really is a luscious perfume. I still have a decant you sold me of El Attarine from all those years ago though I did splurge on a bottle recently during a sale.

I meant to comment on the weekend poll but I was curious where you are selling. I would love to follow along and see what you find! I’m kicking myself for missing out of that Traversee du Bosphore bottle.

I also found a sealed vintage bottle of El Attarine!

Mostly I sell on facebook, Eau My Swap and FFF Marketplace. I’m done for a while now, may sell a few more things in the spring, several Amouage classics (Ubar, Beloved, Jubilation 25) and another Guerlain (Mon Precieux Nectar, which I love but don’t need 4 bottles of!).

I am weeping about your vintage sealed bottle of El Attarine! It is not Serge’s best but it’s arguably the one I regret the most.

(But betcha anything it smells better in that little brain cell in the lemming area of my brain than it ever did in real life. I think it’s best to have a few perfumes you regret forever and never really smell them again.)

Smoothie is apple and yogurt, for Jalapeno, they are Civni apples from Kent.

Kept warm in Baiser Volé essence de parfum, it lasts and lasts but tonight I sprayed Fils de Dieu, waving to Deva and Eau de Shalimar Edition Charms, it is only now I notice how similar they are, just the EdSéc is more citrussy, lime to be precise, I wear it seldom I don’t have a backup.

Our temps have shot up by 12 degrees, it is 13C, glad to see the back of the cold snap we’ve had.

Hi everyone – I wore Aura to run errands on a cold morning and it’s interesting how different it smells to me in the cold instead of the heat. That sci-fi green edge faded quickly leaving fresh, clean vanilla. I like it! But will change it up with some Nicolai Vanille Tonka later.

I went to Lush today so saved my wrists in order to try Turmeric Latte. Which smells exactly like Tobacco Vanille on me. I didn’t expect that! However, vanilla fragrances always go odd on me, so I’m not surprised to end up somewhere that I didn’t anticipate.

Finally settling back into the normal routines. I’m starting to feel anchored again, which is excellent.

I’m wearing DSH Oeillets Rouges this morning. The bottle is evaporating rapidly so I am debating buying more. I’ve mailed the Xmas packages this morning so I can relax and enjoy a few days before I have to brave the airport for a Christmas visit.

The hand reached for Organza Indecence this morning.
    Thank you, hand.

Made Almond Joy cookies with the peeps today; took a few home with me so I can take them with me when I see my sisters on Christmas Day. I’m not a fan of coconut, so these aren’t calling to me, thank goodness. My waistline is not happy about all of these sweets, but it sure has been fun! 🍬 🍪 🎄

Oh, forgot to give a shout out to ZGO Perfumery in San Francisco – I was trawling the internet hoping to find one of last year’s Cire Trudon holiday candles that I absolutely loved, Bayonne, and came across it on their website. It was the only place I found that had it listed, so I wanted to be sure they really had it before I placed my order, and sent them a message. They emailed me back six hours later saying they had several and gave me a 20% discount code off my purchase! How nice is that? Score!

SOTD = 4160Tuesdays Burnt Cedarwood Rainbow Doves

🤎 I probably should know exactly where the name comes from but eh. It smells great and it happens to be one of the many 4160Tuesdays perfumes that arrived unexpectedly time wise. For this day 19, I chose to match the B for brown skin nutcracker with the B in Burnt!

    https://www.instagram.com/p/CmXNwFiu5yQ/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

I had a lovely lunch with my across the street neighbor. We had Chinese food. 😋. Of course I got a $39 parking ticket which was $1 more than our lunch. I called to contest it and will need to fill out a form which they will mail to me. Apparently, only a judge can dismiss a case so hopefully he agrees with my reasoning.

My 4160Tuesdays haul included the following, most of which are EDPs and 15mL.
    – Buddhawood Box
    – Captured by Candlelight
    – Cherry Who? (Parfum)
    – Dancing with Strangers
    – Ealing Green
    – Goodbye Piccadilly
    – Oakmossery
    – Scenthusiasm
    – The Lion Cupboard
    – The Orange Tree
    – Who Knew?

And, best of all, I got my coveted Oakmossery with extra Orris in a green bottle blinged out with green gems. Woohoo!

Wow, that’s quite the haul from 4160! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on that cornucopia.

But, argh, what a PITA about that parking ticket. 😣🤬

Busy day of cleaning and laundry for me today. Fun, fun! 🙄

Currently both cats have picked out a heat vent for their very own, and are plastered over them. They probably will be very unhappy with the impending cold snap later on this week… 😾😾

Have some more presents to box up, then hopefully Mr. Jalapeno will have his “wrapping station” ready to go. He does a beautiful job, which makes sense since he is VERY exacting with his procedure. 🎄🎁

SOTD = Etro Gomma. I think that I owe AnnE an enabler’s pin for this one, since I grabbed a 50mL bottle of it soon after she mentioned it.

There is something “Cuir de Lancome”-ish about it. It does not smell like CdL, but feels like it. Hope that makes sense.

Mr. NST does all our wrapping too…I am sorry to say I often just throw his gifts in a gift bag. Maybe this year I will actually wrap something myself!

I was in Kiss Me Intense today. Fire going. My Lambeau “Frozen Tundra” candle burning. My husband is in the doghouse. He forgot that he had tickets to Monday Night Football until he was reminded on Saturday. I had to work, so couldn’t go. Yes, I know, maybe not such a bad thing…given it’s about 15 degrees and might snow. But I have the right gear, and it’s an experience…. He owes me one.

OK, nothing would make me happier than to NOT go to a football game, much less in 15 / snow. But I am sorry you missed something you might have wanted to do!
