Happy Hump Day! Birthdays today: Mark Twain, Lucy Maud Montgomery, Shirley Chisholm, Dick Clark. What fragrance are you wearing?
Still commando, still sick. Might get better by Friday, but it sure doesn't feel like it. Just remembered I forgot the teapot yesterday.
Reminder: on 12/2 we're doing Ancient Resins...wear a fragrance with a significant resin component, or one inspired by ancient history. Suggested by Desirae.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Wearing a tiny amount of Clinique Wrappings Body Smoother.
Coffee and a couple of triple ginger cookie thins.
Happy Wednesday! ☕️
Triple ginger cookie thins sound tempting. I am making do with a chocolate & blueberry bar.
Love the Wrappings Body Smoother! 💚
A little L’Artisan Parfumeur Vanilia, just because.
🙂
Wearing Musc Koublai Khan layered with some rose absolute from Lvnea.
I need some coffee to stay focused at work this morning.
Nice!
Wow! I have a small decant of MKK and haven’t worn it in ages. I love it, so maybe tomorrow…
You, of course, smell great today!
Sounds like a great combo!
Sotd is Tauer Rose Flash.
And having fallen in love with it all over again, later today, I’ll be back in Ambre Sultan.
Joining you today as a twin Rose Flash!!
Hi twin!
So cool to fall in love with AS again!
It really is! And I’m so glad I didn’t sell my BUB😊
Rose Flash is a great perfume antidote to yucky late autumn weather!
Totally! So warming and cozy.
Wearing Mitsouko today. I think I might have the “bad” reformulation just after the oakmoss ban before Guerlain tweaked it again, but it still smells beautiful to me, very austere with surely the driest peach in fragrance history.
Interesting. I wonder what year that was, or do you know?
From what I can tell the bad reformulation was supposed to be around 2009 or 2010, and it was fixed by about 2013. There’s more info on Bois de Jasmin’s entry on Mitsouko becuase Victoria compared the versions.
How can you tell what version you have? I mean, is there a date on it somewhere or other symbol?
Batch code.
I read that it was 2015, but that might have been a different reformulation issue.
According to the Washington Post, Mitsouko was tweaked in 2007 and Victoria of Bois de Jasmin puts the second, more successful reformulation at about 2013. The batch code on my bottle begins with 7, which I believe is for 2007 and I think I bought it about 2008 or so.
I was wrong, according to the Washington Post Mitsouko was reformulated in 2007:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/magazine/2021/04/21/perfume-makers-raising-a-stink-over-new-safety-rules/
I saw this on Fragrantica, looks like there have been multiple issues:
In 2014, Takasago ceased the production of a methylionone compound, leading to a problem of Symrise’s iriséine, which then lead to the stinky 2015 batches of Mitsouko and L’Heure Bleue. From my research, there is a big problem with batches 5Txx, 5Uxx, etc.
I chose Fille en Aiguilles, which I’ve been wearing for about five years, and I still have to look up the spelling of it every time I write about it. Sweet pine. Nice in the crisp morning air. Hope everyone’s Wed is uneventful.
You smell soo good, its my traditional scent for christmas eve
Thank you, Tannia 🙂 I use Shalimar as my Christmas scent. 🙂
It’s also Billy Idol’s bday. Just googled to see if he ever fronted a fragrance. Didn’t see that he ever did, but came across the tidbit
that he’s a L’Ombre dans L’Eau fan.
In Vivacious today.
cool fact!
Oh nice!!
I would never have guessed that Billy Idol was a fan of that particular scent!
I overslept for the first time in a very long time — a big rainstorm kept me up for part of the night but I think I still got close to 11 hours of 😴. Commando right now, but will probably go with LVDP Hindu Kush in a bit. Oh, and Mr. G has fallen hard for Italian Leather, to the point of pretending to grab the bottle away from me. It’s fun to introduce friends to scent and watch them make discoveries, but I truly never expected that my husband would get into it this much. 🥰
That’s so cool about Mr G! My husband loves perfume on me but not to wear himself. I keep trying.
Plowing through my sample of Vanille Havane by Les Indemodables today — love the tobacco, cacao, dried fruits and boozy vanilla combination. Might be a rare full bottle worthy one for me!
https://www.google.com/search?q=eno+song+let+it+in&rlz=1C9BKJA_enNZ934NZ934&oq=eno+song+let+it+in&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i546l3.14161j0j4&hl=en-GB&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8
I enjoyed your Brian Eno perfume piece. So interesting. You might like this, the clip from Let it In, his 2022 song.
Thank you for sharing the song! Perfect atmospheric music for a cloudy rainy day here.
I love Vanille Havane, you smell great!
I wore my decant of Larmes du desert. I biked to work today, although it was 4C in the morning and totally dark for the first half hour of my commute. I struggle every time, to get on biking, but if i start doing it, i really enjoy the ride.
Tannia, I’m a cyclist too, but I could never get up that early – not even to do something I love. Hats off to you!
sorry-# Tannina .
Resins of the day are myrrh and benzoin in Boyfriend
I completely missed out on Boyfriend, and it seems to get a fair amount of love around here.
IIRC, it was recently revived, as in the past couple of years or so. I haven’t tried the “new” version of it, though.
Mine’s the original
You smell great!
Robin, I hope you feel better soon and can take things easy until you do.
It’s been a very cold spring here but I was out in the cemetery the other morning as I hadn’t been for a long while. There was a rain shower and everything was dripping. Every rose bush was in full bloom…there’s around 1000, mostly heritage roses from the 1860s-1930s , from when the cemetery was functioning. The scent just seemed to lift from the ground, a blend of lipstick scented roses, carnation scented roses, peppermint roses and velvety roses. So wonderful. White, pink, yellow, magenta, apricot, crimson, red…so many colours. Rabbit rabbit rabbit. It’s meant to be summer now and it’s only 7C.
Oooh, that sounds so amazing and beautiful! All of those old old roses, it must truly be like a dreamscape!

I came across this book in the library the other day and thought of you. I have only just started browsing through it but it’s about Crime and Ounishment and the aspects of Dostoevsky’s own life that fed into it, and the main character.
I’ve bookmarked this — thanks for posting, because I had completely missed this book. C&P is my favorite Dostoevsky to teach, although next semester, I’ll be using something shorter (intro survey course, sigh).
Oh thank you! I’ve just bookmarked it too. And skalolazka, kudos to you for teaching this! Of his works, I’ve only ever taught The Underground Man and the Grand Inquisitor section of BK, because this are things we tend to cover in philosophy classes (sadly excising GI from the contest of the novel, which is a crime in itself). You may have said this but what is your favorite of his books, just to read? Mine is The Idiot.
The rose garden in the rain sounds beautiful — I imagine that must be how the roses in The Secret Garden (book) smell.
I am also thinking of Diptyque L’Ombre dans L’eau. Thanks for the lovely description 🙂
What a beautiful description, the scent must be just incredible.
What an amazing scentscape you encountered!
That rose garden sounds fabulous.
Brrr….that’s cold!
How lovely, all those roses. I don’t know why there aren’t more in cemeteries here.
It seems fortuitous that our CP this week is ancient resins since I just happened to order some Papillon samples last week, and now I’m very well-equipped this week. Wow, this is some strong and stinky stuff! But in a good way. I’m trying Salome today since I don’t plan on going anywhere. I didn’t dab on a lot but I’m not getting all the supposedly “dirty” stuff it has. I’m picking up all the pretty florals instead. Hmmm. To my nose Anubis was a lot more “questionable” (but I loved the dry down especially). Salome has styrax. I’ve always heard of all these resins but don’t know enough to tell them apart or discern them well–something I must do more to investigate. We have a beautiful clear morning and it’s cool–yesterday got up to 83F, which is ridiculous for late November!
Wow, send your weather to Kanuka!
I’m in Aromatics Elixir today.
you smell beautiful, this is my mom’s signature scent, whenever she wears this, she gets compliments.
A great green perfume that still smells good even in new-ish bottles.
Commando as I am still sick twinning with Robin.
Today there is no fever which is good sign , but still no voice.
I hope you feel better soon!
Poor you, get well soon!
I was still at 102 this afternoon, which just seems crazy to me. I don’t know if this is a particularly terrible flu or if my immune system is weakened by covid, but I have moved right into defcon level cranky. My husband is lucky he is well enough to go to work 😉
Just when I thought I was in the clear, my fever has returned.
Mr L is lucky he goes to work too
I am very late, but boo!!
Guerlain L’Initial EDP
Hope all is well, Barqs.
Ugly day here. The sky is many shades of grey and hanging low enough to scrape the tops of buildings. It looks like the sun has yet to be born.
I’m in SP Chergui for warmth and comfort.
The weather is similar here where I live — what a gray and damp day. Chergui is lovely, one of my first loves. You smell great 🙂
Ugly day twins!
Same ugly skies, plus windy here. Bletch!
Ugly day triplets.
I’m having my resins charred today in Wazamba. Smells good and calming.
Ringthing, this made me smile from ear to ear. Only here does this sentence make any sense. I challenge anyone to identify another universe in which someone can say:
“I’m having my resins charred today in Wazamba!”
We’re like a large community of twins with our private language of words and sensibilities only comprehensible to us.
Yes! It’s like saying “I stink but in a good way.”
Ha!
🤣👍❤️
That’s so true 😊
I liked Aedes de Venustas so much yesterday I’m wearing it again today. Gusty winds and sideways rain last night woke me twice, but today is gray and drizzling. I might bake something.
Robin, I hope you start feeling better soon!
Thank you foxbins, and hope you baked something wonderful!
No resin for me in Shalimar Tonka. Had a morning meeting, and my husband and I frittered around trying to decide if we’d get a Christmas tree today. After lots of rain last night, we were just left with gale warnings and overcast skies. We decided to wait…which was good. Just driving without a tree on the roof was challenging enough.
Tonight is dinner with friends followed by some bluegrass music.
Oh, but Shalimar has resins!
Enjoy your evening out.
Mancera Roses Vanille. I like the powdery vanilla aspect, but there is a weird cardboard note underneath. Sometimes it is stronger than others, and that note is really strong today.
Going to top off with something else sooner than later – just not sure what lol!
Interesting, I wonder what it is?
Wearing Coco Mademoiselle edt today. Just got the email from Bath and Body Works in regards to candle day. It’s Friday night online to Saturday. Price hasn’t been announced yet but hopefully nothing too horrible.
Good luck Dawn!
Cold and super windy with snow flurries here. I am wearing the always good White Cube.
Robin I hope you will feel better soon!
Is White Cube worthy of a BUB?
You smell great lillyjo, and thanks!
I’m on day two of benzoin for the CP with Diptyque Benjoin Boheme. Yesterday was the wonderful and sadly discontinued Kilian Amber Oud.
Good call!
RIP Christine McVie

R.I.P.
The way she sang always got into my heart.
Yucky weather here. I am twins with everyone complaining about windy and wet. The Chewy.com delivery I was expecting today was on the very soggy grass! The person couldn’t be bothered to walk 2 more feet and put it on my steps? SMH. 😡💧☔ Thankful my order was in a plastic bag.
SOTD = still in Box of Eels EdT. Maybe I am trying to thunk a sample? 😉
And Robin, don’t worry about teapots until you are feeling like yourself again.
Thank you! I am lucky Kanuka rabbited earlier or I’d forget that tomorrow…
That is one lazy delivery person! And it was indeed so yucky out I don’t even feel like taking out the garbage.
Your sample may be thunked soon!
I understand not wanting to be out in today’s weather, but yeah! That is lazy.
That’s crazy lazy!
Is it a dabber or spray sample?
I find dabbers easier to thunk because when it gets down to the end I just pour it on my arms.
It’s a dabber sample. I currently have less than 1/4 of it left. But I have had some very tenacious samples in the past!
Ambra Aurea today, since I never got around to perfume yesterday (it was that kind of day). Miserable, cold, and wet here, too — there was even sleet a couple hours ago. So I baked a loaf of bread (the Irish brown bread I mentioned a few weeks ago), and just ate a piece of it, still warm, with an irresponsible amount of good cultured butter (left over from Thanksgiving) and a nice mug of strong tea.
I need to make that bread, it looks so good.
Sleet! Buttered fresh bread and tea sounds perfect.
SOTD = Atelier Cologne Sous Le Toit de Paris
This is my all time favorite perfume from the house!

I did not purchase any Advent calendars this year … not a one! I do have a Countdown Calendar I bought on sale at Target last year and I think it is really pretty. I’ll practice making a reel out of it and if that’s somehow not successful, I will post a series of photos. OK? OK! Now I just need to figure out how to tie it in with perfume … I have ideas and the winning idea will be revealed tomorrow for the start of the countdown! Wahoo!
What?? 🙀 First no Cyber Monday shopping, and now no Advent cals?
I know, right?
The m.micaleff (sp?) Advent Calendar was being widely promoted on YouTube. The promoters were all gifted one. It seemed nice enough.
I bought the Bonne Maman jam calendar, looking forward to breakfast toast tomorrow. 🙂
Yum! Those always look so cute and yummy. Enjoy!
I bought the Bonne Maman calendar for Mr. Allo since he had so much fun with it last year – “23 fruit spreads and 1 honey”😋
My all time favorite too. Shoulda bought some.
Robin, I hope you kick this nasty flu very very soon.
I’m still, meh, in a limbo of being mildly sick. Dropped my husband off at the airport today and my son is still home sick. I’m very optimistic he’ll be ok for school tomorrow.
SOTD is Slow Dance, not CP complaint. But ringthing just inspired my SOTE, it will be Wazamba!
I love Wazamba, will definitely pull that one out soon.
Wow, several mistakes here, should be compliant not complaint! And I was even wrong about Slow Dance, it is CP compliant with opoponax AND labdanum. I learnt something new today!
Apologies if you’ve already said, I really am brain dead…what are you mildly sick with? Hope it stays mild, whatever it is!
You’re not brain dead, I don’t think I ever said. I’m not even sure what I have, I thought I had a mild flu, but now I have some congestion so maybe it’s a cold. I’ve tested negative for Covid. My son had, what I thought was a cold, all last week! I think we’re a jumble of ills, minus Covid! 😆
A jumble of mild ills beats covid for sure! Good luck.
Wearing Eau des Merveilles mostly because I needed something to counter the grey, wet day. It does have Elemi resin but I needed the orange! 🍊
Here is a link to a segment I just saw on PBS NewsHour about synesthesia – very interesting!
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/artists-use-synesthesia-to-expand-their-creative-limits
Great piece, thanks for the link!
No rain, but it was very cold and damp here for most of the day. Unfortunately I went to a Tibetan cultural event that I didn’t realize would be all outdoors and froze. Going to take a hot shower and put on my woolies in an attempt to not get sick. I wore TRNP Bodhi Tree, now I’m going to delve into some samples.
Oooooooooooof. I hope you don’t get sick either!
Thank you, crossing fingers and taking some herbal remedies hoping to ward off the plague.
I hope you managed to warm up!
I’m in bed with the electric mattress pad cranked up!
