It's Monday, plus National Pickle Day and World Diabetes Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
We are taking a short, late-fall break in Savannah, Georgia. I am terribly behind (I have not even read the weekend comments yet) and probably won't catch up until I am home on Tuesday, and it is likely that Tuesday's poll will be several hours later than usual. Sorry! We are having a lovely time though. My scent today is Prada Infusion d'Iris.
Reminder: on 11/18, wear a fragrance with a peppercorn note...pink (aka schinus molle or baies rose), black or white.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Glad to hear your vacation is going well, Robin!
Finally opened the Lush Garden set I bought on my own mini-vacation and meant to wear a different one every day this week. I’m starting out with V, which is a darkish violet scent, kind of sweet, extremely pleasant.
We have had a great time and eaten WAY too much food, but also walked quite a bit so hopefully that will even out.
I envy that set, it looked great.
I find V very interesting, too. One I almost bought, went back to and is different enough to try that travel spray.
That is a great travel set. Hope that more are in the works.
Hi Robin, have a wonderful break! Don’t worry about us, we shall behave until you return 😂😂
I wandered down to Bergdorf over the weekend and smelled a bunch of Guerlains and niche brands. From their exclusives collection, I enjoyed Rose and Oud — I will have to sample on skin soon.
As for niche, I was taken by Purple Suede (lavender and leather!) by Goldfield and Banks Australia. However on skin, the leather wasn’t as prominent and there’s an ambery synthetic note that I find distracting — I think it’s the cashmeran.
To feed my unappeased appetite for leather, I am in Cuir d’Ange today.
Thanks pfsh, and you smell great!
I’m wearing HdP 1899 Hemingway, from my discovery set. This is also CP compliant, since it has a top note of black pepper.
Pepper should be easy to do, I think.
31 RC
Thick RL cashmere sweater, an equestrian inspired hat.
Gloves.
It’s cold
Love Georgia Robin, enjoy
Love 31 RC as well as your outfit for the day. Very cold here in the Midwest too!
My kids told me I looked like I was ready to go horseback riding
I bet you do and with the perfume you will be the best smelling and best dressed equestrian out there!
I have spent relatively little time in Georgia, but I am now a Savannah convert!
Love your outfit reports!
I love Savannah! Enjoy!
I’m in NV Ashoka, a blind pull from the sample bin, and a very relaxing choice for a Monday.
Thanks irisjasmine!
Wearing Agent Provocateur today, had a nice weekend and made a pot roast for the first time. My cooking has really improved in the last few years.
a pot roast sounds delicious, you’ve got me hungry now!
I would not mind a pot roast either. And the Agent is so great in cooler weather!
Love pot roast!
Scent siblings today! Or maybe cousins?
I’m starting our peppercorn week in my Le Labo Poivre 23 sample. It’s a rich, dense, smoky vanilla to me that I find beautiful until it’s suddenly just a bit too much.
Having a friend over to bake with me this morning (biscotti and amazing scones from an NYT recipe) in preparation for a coffee get-together I am hosting for some elderly neighbor ladies tomorrow. Should be fun!
Every time you talk about food ….I go into my cabinet
Ha! And I talk about food a lot, probably, because I cook/bake a lot.
I love it!
Biscotti is something I really enjoy.
My doctor told me on one of my check ups that I can’t tolerate coffee on its own-she suggested a small biscotti or a small toast in the morning with coffee. I use to go without food and my stomach says otherwise.
We neeeeeed biscotti!
What a fun morning activity. Enjoy!
How nice that get-together sounds.
What a great way to spend a Monday!
Accidentally CP-compliant in CdG Black from a dabber sample. It’s oddly interesting, and I can certainly discern the black pepper note, but I don’t think it’s something I would wear a lot. Post-shower I’ll switch to something more my style.
Turned out on further development that Black had some note that REALLY does not work for me. Switched to African Leather, and am now realizing that our current very chilly and sunny weather is optimal for this scent — falling in love with it all over again. 🙂
I had to laugh at Robin’s perfume as we spend so much time conversing about iris scent. Thanks everyone for your lists. I went with a favorite of mine today-FM Iris Poudre. Looooooove it!
I love love love Iris Poudre, such an elegant and put together scent. You smell great!!
You smell amazing!
The Iris Poudre hand creme is amazing. I got to try it thanks to a very generous NSTer. Not sure if it is still around or not.
I am not familiar with that, but I can imagine it would be amazing.
Thank you all for your supporting and comforting words this past weekend regarding my mother’s health. I appreciate them deeply. They are so much needed these days.
I will do a week of iris after the iris talk on the weekend poll. Iris is a note that along with incense gives me lots of peace and comfort.
My SOTD is the sadly discontinued Iunx Talc, by Olivia Giacobetti. A gorgeous, simple, delicate powdery iris that I still hope is back in stock someday, so I can finally get several full bottles.
It is very cold today, with temps feeling in the 30s. I am on my second cup of coffee with a plain bagel. My caffeine intake will be more than usual today, since I will be working until very late.
Happy and healthy Monday! 🌻
Good morning Pl67, speaking of IUNX Talc, I accidentally bought a couple of refill travel bottles, not realizing that I need the original sprayer to make them work properly. If you happen to have a travel size sprayer, I would love to send you a refill. Ping me at le sl i cor
thell attt gee male dot com
I am sure you smell wonderful!
I do! It is a beautiful scent!
I have not yet read the weekend comments, but I will do so tomorrow. Meantime you have my sympathies for whatever is happening, which I assume is not happy.
Thank you, Robin! The last tests she had were much worse than expected. We are waiting the results of new pathology by the end of the week.
🙁
Just a plain bagel for a Monday morning? Phooey.
Sending more hugs your way.
Thank you, Jalapeno!
I was so busy today, I only had time to grab a plain bagel. Super boring! I will remedy that for tomorrow.
Noncompliant in Jersey (the great Boy vs Jersey debate for next bottle finally settled), with smudges of DSH’s Vachi on my wrists for good measure.
what was the debate. Who won?
I was havering between wanted to restock my Boy or trying something new/similar–Jersey. I was gifted a bottle of Jersey so that put an end to my havering 🙂 No need for both. They have a lot in common, but Boy is all starched linen, where Jersey is powder puff soft. It’ll take a few more wears to see if I like it as much as Boy.
I like Jersey. Its a perfume I reach for when I want to keep calm and carry on. Just my two “scents”
The perfume stars must have aligned this morning. Not knowing this week’s CP, I reached for a random sample and it happened to be CdG Blackpepper, which I absolutely luuurv (as Oakland Fresca would say😊).
Perfect!
Greetings from the TGV/High speed train whisking me from Paris CDG to Lille at a rate of knots. 😀 I am in Amouage “Interlude Man” which even in its debased reformulation is a comforting travel perfume for me. This is my last week on my current project which has been very successful both for the client and for me, so I’m quite proud of it. And also looking forward to a couple of months’ break before looking for the next thing. 🙂
I spent St. Patrick’ Day 1999 in Savannah GA – it has an amazing parade, at the time one of the biggest in the USA. I’m pretty sure we ate crayfish/ “crawdads” down at the river quays. A beautiful city and old enough to be built to be walkable. My first introduction to “critters” too 😳
Harking back to a topic several weekends ago (TV series), can you get “Vera” over there? Hour long episodes of murder mysteries set in & around Newcastle in NE England. We’re on Season 8 in Spain. Brenda Blethyn plays the eponymous lead detective who manages to be compassionate and steely and a bit awkward in all the right proportions. 👮♀️
My best wishes to PL67 and all who might need a bit more strength or love or courage to face what lies ahead. ❤️
ok-jealous of your journey Can you fit me in your baggage. I promise I smell good.
Oh, I would, but it’s *cold* here. Just 8°C in Lille vs. 20°C in Málaga.
Yes, we can get Vera here. Sorry about the “critters.” Just one on many reasons I don’t miss the south in general and Florida in particular. Enjoy your journey!
My “favourite” bit was walking past a beautiful fountain at night & seeing the crowd of enormous beetles & bugs clustered around to enjoy the moisture. 😬
Good to see you here, I’ve often made that journey when I lived in France as my grandmother lived in Lille.
It’s amazingly fast, less than 1 hour from the CDG airport station to Lille Flandres. Lille reminds me of Birmingham (UK), an old industrial powerhouse city that’s been bashed about a bit.
Thank you, Koenigsberg. I really appreciate it.
It is good to see you here today. 🌻
🤗
I adore Vera! I don’t know what “critters” refers to and probably don’t want to know!
We would call them creepy-crawlies and so long as they stay outdoors & mind their own business they are welcome. I did not love the enourmous beetle scuttling across the floor of the otherwise exquisite B&B we stayed in. 😕
Mind you, I’m sure any visitors would have thought the same of the big house spiders that would come out to run around the floor of our old Edwardian house in Birmingham at this time of the year. Whereas I was always happier to put up with them than suffer whatever the heck they were feeding on!
Aha. Luckily I did not see any critters!
Savannah is probably one of the best places in the US to try crawdads along with New Orleans.
It was a memorable trip for food, covering Atlanta GA, Savannah GA and Huntsville AL. I will always remember country ham & eggs, grits, biscuits & gravy at Eunice’s Country Kitchen, barbecue from some out-of-the-way BBQ shack, and my first time eating sushi (not very Southern, I grant you). Mmm. 😋
We only have Season One as part of Amazon Prime without any extra fees other than the Amazon Prime subscription. Looking forward to watching it!
Enjoy! Brenda Blethyn is a great actor. 🙂
Was in Savannah for a day over 30 years ago. Loved its mild creepiness. Enjoy!
Oeillet Bengale makes me CP compliant. Final bits of a travel spray – thankful to have a back up set.
Clear liquid diet today, then dreaded clean out tonight before a procedure tomorrow. And, of course, we will have an hour and half drive to get to the medical facility in the morning. Snow is projected. Fun, fun, fun. The reward after will be lunch and a trip to Costco. We’d considered a movie, but my husband has to get back for his bowling league. Living the dream.
Good luck with your procedure. I have that same routine two weeks from today.
Best of luck with the procedure.
Oh dear, hope all goes smoothly tomorrow!
Oh ick. I know that “clean out” and procedure routine. Not pleasant at all! Best of luck. 🍀🍀🍀
I had my first in 2020 and it wasn’t bad because they gave me propofol and I woke feeling totally rested and relaxed, very zen! The prep is another story! 😵💫
I’ve had two prior. I asked the anesthesia receptionist if it would be like the more recent one or the first. She confirmed it’ll be like you described, which made me very happy to hear. My first took a few hours to wear off and was somewhat unpleasant.
It’s a sunny, cold day, and am doing a sniff-off of JM Velvet Rose and Oud and YR Rose Oud. the latter starts off on the poopy side, rather daring for this brand. Speaking of YR, it looks like their seasonal offerings are Milky Almond and Juicy Berries. Any reports back? The name of the latter makes me apprehensive.
They often have a berries option at the holidays so was wondering if it was just renamed? But have not tried it.
Milky Almond is right up my alley, but I think I’ll wait to see if it goes on sale.
Very cold here last night and today. T-Rex has yet to make an appearance this morning, still buried under blankets and warm as toast.
Le Lion de Chanel today because it was a quick easy grab and my hands are numb from cold. Time to excavate the mittens out of storage! 🥶
Apropos of nothing, I purchased 4 panels of curtains made from up-cycled saris for an up coming project. I chose the multi which are a lovely hodgepodge of 5-6 silk colors and patterns that are about 5” wide and then sewn together longitudinally with tab/loops at the top for hanging. They do sell panels that are matched in particular color ways, but I like the multi best. They are so stunning! A very sheer, simple, light diffusing colorful way of dressing up a window! Can’t wait to get started!
Robin, hope your getaway is everything you hoped for!
Good luck with your project, it sounds gorgeous.
Thank you!
Sari covered windows will glam up your van!
I have a sewing question for you since you are such an accomplished seamstress. The aforementioned panels need to to be cut to length and hemmed. I don’t have access to a sewing machine, but could probably use hemming tape and an iron (iron supplied at some hotels), but does the hem tape actually hold through washings? Also, the curtains are quite “flowy,” which I love and I’m thinking the ham tape may hinder movement. Do you have any suggestions? Should I just cut to length and apply fray check? Not sure how to go about this as they are a very lightweight silk material…any help you can offer would be appreciated! TYIA!
Butting in politely to mention that hem tape does tend to stiffen up fabrics. At least that’s been my experience.
Thanks! That’s been my experience, too. I’ve just watched a couple videos of people using fray check on different materials and I think it will work for my project without discoloring/damaging the fabric or causing the cut edge to be stiff or scratchy. 👍🏼
maybe you can do a rolled seam with hand stitching, otherwise fraycheck
What a great idea for your windows!
And yes, it was even better than we expected, thanks 🙂
Hi Robin, glad to hear you’re having a lovely time in Savannah.
I’ll have to think about the pepper note, meanwhile, it’s a beautiful sunny morning here and I’m wearing De Profundis from Serge Lutens.
Thanks Gaynor!
De Profundis is lovely.
No smoothie today but I made an almond cake.
Enjoy your time in Savannah, Robin.
Spent the day in JP Heritage Que Sais-Je?, I never noticed before but it is extraordinarily diffusive and it’s a grown-up fruity scent and light Amber that I like very much.
Tonight it’s Jolie Madame which I love.
Almond cake — yum!
Patou made some gorgeous perfumes.
Oh yes, I know you like and have some of the Héritage series too,.
I hope you’re having a wonderful time in Savannah, Robin!
I’m sampling Fils de Dieu for the first time, I’m not sure how I missed it when I was a newbie as it’s so well known. It is mostly cinnamon on me, I’m waiting to see if it develops into something more complex.
We are, thanks foxbins!
No points for me, i tried Vol de Nuit again today. I hoped i would love it, but alas, i does not love me back. Too much powder and vanilla on my skin, i hoped for more galbanum.
Made persian celery stew for dinner, yummy leftovers for tomorrows lunch!
It does not love me either, tannina!
Testing out Baraccat Rouge 540 edp today. Not sure if I like this one so far.
BR 540 is so not me, it is though MFK devised an anti-Robin scent.
It was very sweet on me. I don’t think I could wear it on a steady basis.
Oh, enjoy Savannah! Those lovely squares, beautiful homes, and many huge old trees are so wonderful. I learned there to love grits, too, especially shrimp & grits! The Pink House lived up to its reputation!
I’m twins with Springpansy today in LL Poivre 23. I have two little samples of it; don’t ever wear them but this is quite nice. Pepper/amber plus some sweetness. The pepper is very strong. Interestingly, I bought a LL scent that was a different pepper, I swear it was Ll Poivre 26, in London back in, I think, 2010, at Liberty’s. It was described as a room spray but the young man who composed my bottle for me told me it would be fine to wear it on skin. Which I did–I used it up! I can’t find anything about this in a quick Google search though. Hmmm.
I’m sure I have a lot of other things with pepper, especially pink pepper, but I’ll have to look them up.
Hope people are off to a good week. We have Monday blues with gray weather and rain predicted. :-(.
Gorgeous Monday here, weather wise. But alas, I must adult tonight, which is putting a damper on my day. Hope you get cooler weather after the rain passes.
We could not get in the Pink House but we did walk through just to see it, and we have eaten so well that I can’t believe they could beat it 🙂
I am anxious, or not, to see how much weight I managed to gain over a 3 day period 🙂
Take any weight gain as a sign of a good vacation.
Exactly.
Hi Fragrant Friends! I have missed you the couple of weeks. Work had me traveling and accommodating my European colleague’s time zones (though, unfortunately, my travel wasn’t *to* those time zones). I did, however, get to stop at the Osme Perfume shop in Miami, which has a great selection and is conveniently located a few doors down from the excellent J. Wakefield Brewery.
Today I’m sampling Abel’s Golden Neroli and White Vetiver. Both are very pretty and right up my alley scent-wise, but they are so faint (even after 8 sprays of each on opposite wrists) and so expensive that I don’t foresee getting any more after I finish the samples. I wouldn’t mind so much if I could reapply with abandon.
Tea today is Celestial Seasonings Nutcracker Suite because it is starting to feel like winter here.
Good to know because both of those sound so lovely!
I know when we get home tomorrow it will be very winter-ish in PA.
So what did you sample at the brewery? 😉🤣
I tried a few things, but my favorite was Cuvee de Wakefield, which is a mix of D.F.P.F. (probably their most “famous” beer, if beer nerds are numerous enough to make something “famous”) and Miami Madness. I also really liked their Barrel-Aged 7th Anniversary Imperial Stout. It does a really good job of hinting at the banana note but with enough restraint that it doesn’t scream I AM A BANANA BEER! or even worse, I AM AN ARTIFICIAL BANANA BEER! Plus the brewery has cool star wars related murals painted all around, so it was a fun happy hour spot.
There are enough beer nerds that a collaboration between Stone Brewing and Wil Wheaton is a thing…
I am totally a beer nerd/fan. This place sounds great!
If you happen across a bottle of w00t Stout from Stone Brewing, that’s the name of the collaboration. IDK how widely it is distributed.
Hey Vee! I was just thinking of you today.
SOTD is some leftover Avignon on my sweater. I had a lab test today and so didn’t put anything else on; I figured this would carry me.
It’s going to be a long week at work. I’ll see what I have with pepper, but will probably just keep going for the comfort scents.
Enjoy Savannah, Robin! I was last there when I was in high school, but it seemed like an interesting city.
I have not been in Charleston since high school, so thinking we should go there next fall if it works out.
Very good luck with your long week!
Skipped right to Xmas type weather today, brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Parts of northern NJ might even see some snow later on this week. 🥶 As a result I am very envious of your trip to Savannah, Robin!
SOTD = Agent Provocateur L’Agent EdP. This is probably the best perfume that AP made. It even surpasses the original perfume in my estimation. Wish I had grabbed a BUB when I could, but now L’Agent is more or less made of Unobtainium.
I like that – Unobtanium! It sure was cold today!
I’m wearing my winter wool socks again today.
I saw a big arctic dip forecast for the Midwest and east coast. For some unknown reason, I keep thinking you’re in Texas. I have no idea why…
Not quite arctic here. Currently 34 degrees F, which is typical for late December in NJ.
I’m puzzled about the Texas thing too, if that helps. 😉
You smell great, I too have no BUB and regret it, it’s so lovely, resinous.
It’s amazing stuff.
Snow here too. I hope it’s dry weather for Thanksgiving.
Is Mr. Jalapeno back yet?
No, he’s not back yet.
SOTD = Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan

In other news, have I ever mentioned that there’s a little convenience store inside my office building? It is where I buy my lottery tickets (when I’m in NY, otherwise, it’s Wegmans). Anyway, the other day when the prize was over $2B, I bought my tickets there. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a bunch of Fage Greek yogurt, the exact brand and type I eat. When I asked how much each one cost, he said $3.50. He must have seen my 👀 pop and the $ signs running wild above my head. So the proprietor decided to mansplain (hey, it’s a word!) supply chain theory to me. Thank God, someone came in to buy something and I quickly skedaddled. For what it’s worth, I can get 2 containers from Whole Foods and have change left over!
Related to supplies, I think there’s a shortage of perfume atomizers. My usual online places where I buy my atomizers are out of stock with TBD delivery dates. I thought it was bad a year ago, now it’s worse! I have plenty of 3mL and 10mL bottles but I only have 1 single solitary bottle of the plain 5mL and have begun using some of my fancier ones. If anyone has recommendations of where to purchase them, please email me or create a thread so others can benefit. Thanks.
“Mansplain” is totally a word. And also a very aggravating occurrence. 🤬
!!!
I had the same eye balls that last time I bought deodorant. $7 (SEVEN!!!) dollars for one stick container! Last I remember paying for it was 3.49 for. 2-pack. .Really, at that price, I’d just as soon go around being stinky…
Tortilla chips are getting to be $5 or $6 a bag now. Holy sticker shock!
I have to do some grocery shopping tomorrow and I am already crying about it.
Being a cashier at our local market has been interesting. I watch the totals and my eyebrows raise.
I’m in Silky Woods today. It dries down to a nice vanilla; I sniffed my arm late this afternoon and wondered for a minute what vanilla fragrance I was wearing. 😊
I had my stupid awful dentist appointment this morning and am working tonight. Normally I take the whole day off to recover but it wasn’t possible today. My sotn is Prada Candy Night.
I’m really hungry and can’t wait to get home.
I remember times like that. Hope work goes fast and you can get home and relax.
Hope you were able to sneak some cookies during your shift. 🙂
At least the appointment is over and done with.
Almost forgot… it looks like fragrance net had some shalimar mvp. It is sold out right now but allows you to get on a waiting list if you click on it.
Oh thanks for the heads up! It let me put my name on the list!
Have a great vacation, Robin! When my husband and I went to Savannah a few years ago, I did the Tour de Shrimp and Grits. Every restaurant served it and they were all different. I can’t recall a favorite, just heard that Paula Deen’s restaurant is over-rated.
SOTD was IUNX Talc.
Oh what fun!! We walked by the Paula Deen place but did not eat there. Natalie Portman & Julianne Moore were filming a movie across the street but we did not see them either 🙂
Savannah GA – makes me think of that fabulous movie, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Sounds like fun!
I’m wearing the coziness of Cuir Beluga. Have a feeling this one is going to get heavy use this winter.
I read the book but don’t think I ever saw the movie! We did tour that graveyard though, and of course saw his house.
Very late to the party! I wore La Myrrh Monday.
