It’s Hump Day and Thrift Shop Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Parfums de Nicolaï Eau d'Été, from my very old bottle.
Reminder: 8/19 is Coco Chanel’s birthday. We've done two Chanel projects in the past (see 2014 and 2019). If you're up for a third, wear something by Chanel, with double points for wearing No. 19. If you're not up for a third, vote with your fragrance: wear a brand that you think deserves more attention. Suggested by Dawn.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown is the Chanel 22 Small Handbag ("Imagined by Virginie Viard, its name refers to the year of its creation : 2022 ... An extremely supple yet resistant leather combining simplicity and comfort") in Navy Blue Metallic Calfskin & Blue Metal, $5,500.
I tried to post my sotd yesterday and I was getting such lousy cell service it did not post. Anywho, I was in no 5 L’eau yesterday and today is Eau Premiere. Love them both.
The past few days have been gorgeous.😎 Blue skies, sun, and temps in the 70’s. I am loving it! Summer, please don’t go.😢
I can’t wait to get home to the pretty weather!
Hurry! Before the rain moves in for the weekend.☹️
It’s going to be next week, which looks pretty, too 👍🏼 And you smell great!
Awesome!😎 Thanks!
We were twins yesterday!
Yay!🤩🙌🌞
Twins.
Hey twin, we smell great!😁
I have both of your scents and love them!
Same!😀
Getting and enjoying some of the same gorgeous weather that you have had!
Oh good!🌞😎
I’m in a favorite, Demeter Tomato. I ran out of this last year, and purchased another bottle, which I promptly lost. I just got another bottle yesterday, so today I sprayed heavily. I still love it.
🍅🍅🍅
Yay for having it again and still loving it!
PriscillaE have you ever tried Miller Harris La Feuille? It quite captures the feeling of walking down a row of tomatoes and getting their stem oil on your arms!
How lovely, that sounds like a scent I ought to try to track down!
Commando on another hot day. Always enjoy checking in here 🌹
Always enjoy seeing you check in!🌞
Thanks lillyjo, glad to see you!
Hope you can get back to your perfumes soon!
Thanks, me too! Like I find myself really longing to smell something that’s home – right now it’s Dune that I’m craving.
Knize Ten, a favourite leather. The box has that little cosmetic-jar symbol on the back that tells you how many months it’s good to use, and hilariously the number in the jar is 12. One year and it suddenly starts to disintegrate! It should be 360 or so. I’ve had it for a few years and expect to have it for a few more yet.
You smell elegantly divine!
Every time someone posts about Knize Ten, I think, “Yes, I need a bottle.” I should just do it — maybe as a reward when I finish my current project.
Yeah, go for it!
All the rain yesterday cooled things down so I’m able to wear Marron Chic today.
We’ve been cool for a week now, it’s lovely.
Knowing that all Chanel Les Exclusifs are very fleeting on me, I decided to bath in 31 Rue Cambon, EdT. MISTAKE! I am very overwhelmed now, after 4 hours of wearing it. It is still going so strong that I can barely breathe! I hope to truly enjoy it by the end of the day, when I hope it fades some and stops punishing me for my abuse and greediness! Beautiful and amazing scent which I really love!
Oh no! I hope it settles down and you can enjoy it.
Finally, it is wafting softly and deliciously! 😅
31 Rue Cambon is one of the stronger ones in that range!
It is the strongest of Les Exclusifs, but the regular 8 sprays “a la Hajusuuri” never lasted more than one hour on me. I think I sprayed a quarter of the bottle this morning. Never underestimate the strength of perfume! 😀
31RC is fickle on me — there have been a few times when it has grown stronger by the hour, to the point where I have found it unpleasant. But it is still beautiful!
It was very unpleasant for me this morning. I swear it smells stronger now than 2 hours ago when I thought it was fading away. Lesson learned!
Sending you “fade away” vibes 🙂
Lol! Thank you, Robin! The worst is over! I am enjoying it now! 😀
That happened to me once with 31RC too. I love that scent, but am careful how much I spray now.
I have to be very careful next time I spray on it. I do not want to end up hating it!
I ought to retry 31RC sometime soon. Still have a very nice manufacturer sample of it. It was not my thing the first time I sniffed it.
It took me years to fall in love with 31RC, but it finally clicked!
Bunch of errands today as I continue preparing for the move. Wearing MCG Leucò from a little travel spray. The weather is just gorgeous! Another beautiful day.
So glad you are finally getting your well deserved beautiful days!🌞
I hope you enjoy your next adventure in moving!
Fingers crossed that the beautiful weather continues for you during the move. 🤞🤞🤞
I just got from taking my son to his first Moi Toi marshal arts lesson. You guys, I teared up while sneakily watching him with the instructor. I pushed him to try it. He did good and he liked it. It’s private lessons ( because of his autism a group class would not be ideal) it’s pretty expensive but I am hoping he will want to continue. I think it will be a good confidence booster for him.
My sotd is Chance eau Vive.
I love the image of you “sneakily watching” your son with his instructor. In my line of work, we call that the benevolent gaze.
He’s so fortunate to have a mother who holds him in mind in such a thoughtful, openhearted way. (inserting heart emoji like Oakland Fresca did yesterday)
Aww, that’s awesome lillyjo! I hope he likes it and continues too.☺️
Hooray for a successful lesson!
So glad, that’s great news.
Aw, that’s so sweet! I hope your son will continue to enjoy and benefit from his lessons.
You’re such a good mom – I hope you will both benefit from it!
I am so glad for your son! I hope he enjoys the lessons!
One day at a time, eh? But success leads to success and so . . . wonderful that he liked it!
Yay that sounds like a new hobby for your son, what a Good idea you had to convince him to try it.
Aw, that’s so sweet you were watching! Glad that your son enjoyed his new activity. I hope he can keep up with it.
So happy to read this post: go lillyjo son, go!
So happy to read this post: go lillyjo son, go!
Aww… thanks everyone! ❤️
How sweet, lillyjo <3
Nice! I hope he continues with it!
I hope so too. It will require some belt tightening on my part, but it’s worth it. I really feel like the more he can get out in the world and interact with people the better off he will be.
Day 4 of Chanel perfumes and currently in no 5 edp.
You smell terrific!
That’s a good one!
You smell wonderful!
I decided today that I may do Chanel the rest of the week. After some of us discussed Gabrielle yesterday, I am wearing the body crème along with Gabrielle Essence perfume. Double points since I wore two Chanel products? 😉
Yes, double points! I bet you smell great.
I really like it though I know many do not.
I think that was just when it came out. I’ve seen many come around to it, including myself. I bet that body cream is fantastic.
I really like the body cream. If you have ever had the no 5 or the Coco Noir cream, it is very similar as far as the feel of it.
Absolutely!
Oh, goody!
I like Gabrielle – I also love scents that smell like shampoo. The closer to 90s Herbal Essences the more I like it. They make me feel fresh, pretty and happy. You smell great!
I guess I never thought of it smelling like shampoo, but now I will think of that the next time I wear it.
Started the morning with a few drops of Bel Respiro from an old manufacturer’s sample. It’s a little off but I could still smell the Chanel magic.
Love Bel Respiro — you smell wonderful!
Thank goodness I don’t care much for today’s handbag — budget buster! Anyway, I’m in Cristalle EDP today. I can tell it’s been awhile because I dust the bottles when I use them, and that bottle really needed its little shoulder ledges cleaned.
I don’t much care for the 22 bag in general but I admit I do like it in that navy. Luckily I don’t like to wear things with designer logos, because I do not have $5500 handy 🙂
You smell great!
I like that handbag but do not care for the price tag at all! Too rich for my wallet.
I like it too.
Rue Cambon for hump day along with new chanel bronzer and lip color.
You smell marvelous.
Twins! We smell wonderful!
Revisiting Le Lion today. On previous wearings, I have gotten Shalimar in the opening and Coromandel in the drydown. Today it seems smokier. It is a performance beast.🦁👏🏻
You smell fabulous and that’s a great description of Le Lion!
Chanel 1957
Happy Humpday!
SOTD!
Chanel Sycomore.
They sure do know how to perfect a really really good Iris note, over at Chanel.Gorgeous vetiver and woods.
Sidenote:Chanel can also screw up packaging and manufacturing,as the sprayer of my 75ml edt has always been a bit wonky and leaking underneath the sprayhead when you push down on the nozzle.Other than that,no complaints!
I love thrift stores and markets!
XO’s!
Happy Humpday, J!
I’ve been thinking you might enjoy watching Rajiv Surendra – do you know of him?
https://youtu.be/7Uo2nomf4I0
He’s a fascinating character, I adore him! Also, there’s an interesting YouTube channel featuring some quirky characters in SA that you might like: Green Renaissance.
I love thrift stores and markets too!
Thanks for the link Holly,I shall check it out asap!
Happy Wednesday!🌹✌🏻
Holly!!
I LOVED that home tour,Loved loved looooved!!!Thank you so much, what an awesome person,a kind of kindred spirit of mine!(And I adore his yellow couch, that bed,the firshermen’s sweaters!!!!)
🤗🤗❣️❣️
Oh yay! I thought you might like him! Thanks for letting me know! He’s got quite an interesting story and I find him so inspiring.
We are TWINS!
Summer by Kenzo!
Spurred on by today’s milder weather, I’m contemplating doing a last hurrah/au revoir focused on perfumes I tend to think of wearing only in the summer. This is definitely one of them!
You smell lovely, I haven’t worn Summer yet this summer, must remedy.
Thank you! I hadn’t worn it yet either. It’s nice to hear from another fan!
I’m wearing Boy on a warm and almost muggy day, it’s been very hectic already with a non-smooth start to the first day of school! The Chanel is helping though. My son forgot to bring the ONE thing he had to bring, his school-issued laptop. So I had to rush it over on my way to work. Fingers crossed the rest of the week (or school year) goes more smoothly.
Oy vey. I hope they are not on their laptops all day inside their classroom.
(facepalm)
That sounds like every first day EVER, in my house! Good luck with the rest of the year 🙂
Trying to figure out how to handle the next few weeks as I sit here looking out the window. I can return to work at the end of September. I want to stay fairly close to town for a week or two still in case complications arise since it was such a (unexpectedly) complicated surgery, but I need to be on the coast weather wise, because it’s too hot inland. So, I will try to plan something out today.
I have a date with Sticky Dates and a shower soon. That will be my big accomplishment for that day, then I may need a nap! Will probably skip perfume today and stick with my Wild Sweet Orange hand cream. I lurve that stuff! Be well all!
Deva, I hope you are recovering well! I missed the days where you had posted about your surgery, and have just caught up. 🤗
Thank you for your well wishes! You haven’t missed a thing, trust me! Just me blathering and wasting good oxygen! 😃 Take care!
Aww, no! We’re all friends here. ❤️
Speaking from my own recent “disasters”,we’re surely all superglad that you still check in and that you are in fact, still around!!
🌹✌🏻❣️
Thanks, and right back at ya! Are you feeling back to normal or is it an ongoing process..?
It sounds like a good plan, be easy on yourself too.
Thanks, I’ve been taking afternoon naps, and they are the highlight of my day! 😴
I think T-Rex will have ideas (of a sort) about how you can pass the time: petting, feeding, walking, cozying-up… But seriously, I hope your recovery will continue to go well.
Thanks! She’s feeling a bit cooped up, I think. She’s overdue for some good exercise!🐕
Wow, wishing you a quick recovery with no further complications!
Thank you!
I am definitely an outlier here, with my lone Chanel waiting for Friday (and a decant at that.) I had worn No. 5 for years, and had also owned No. 19, 31 Rue Cambon, and Cuir de Russia at various times, but they never really felt like “me.” Imposter Syndrome, maybe? I never felt like I could measure up to that degree of elegance. Oh well. Plenty of others, I can hear Robin saying. 😉
Now, Thrift Shop Day, that’s more me, lol! I love thrift stores and yard sales! It’s always such an adventure, never knowing what you might find. Some of my most treasured objects have been found at those places.
SotD is Passage d’Enfer, thanks to the cooler weather and a kind NSTer. I had only worn it in the winter, and now I’m liking it more than I ever did. That must be the trick with incense for me.
PdE really flourishes on me in the heat!
And in cooler weather.
Really, it’s great in all weather!
I take it you’re a fan. 😄
I’m not as into yard sales, but I haunt all our local thrift stores! I have a lot of luck with vintage kitchen goods – those old, heavy stainless steel, American-made hand-turned beaters will get you to the next level on waffles, (whip the egg whites) and tone your arms at the same time (real whip cream is not as hard as you think)! Plato’s Closet is a great place for perfumes, if you have one in your town. Looking forward to what your Chanel will be!
Yes, I grew up with beaters like that. Whipping the cream for holiday desserts was always something I signed up for.
I’ve never heard of Plato’s Closet, thanks for the tip, MossyBerry!
Passage d’Enfer seems to like warmer weather on me, too.
I feel that way about Bois des Iles, too, but it is such a comforting smell that I ignore the imposter syndrome 🙂
Robin, that’s my one exception! 😄
🙂
I am in the funniest motel. It is genuine 1970s Tudor. All ranch sliders with Tudor dark wood features over white plank-board. It’s very windy and the rain is pummelling down, not yet dawn, but a blackbird has been singing it’s heart out for the past thirty minutes. It’s a complicated , rising falling, repetitive song. So beautiful. I wonder if it woke so early because of the light pollution in its territory. Street lights and building lights. It must be exhausting to sing that loud, that long. Wearing a touch of La Pausa.
You smell beautiful, and your description of the setting and the birdsong matches.
You smell glorious, and the setting is right out of a 1970s movie!
Nice with La Pausa!
I got a good laugh out of “1970’s Tudor”. That was A Thing here in the States as well.
What a wonderful vacation you are on! (I think it’s a vacation.) Love old, kept-up motels. Why fix it if it ain’t broke!
Your comment brought this stanza to min immediately:
“I do not know which to prefer,
The beauty of inflections
Or the beauty of innuendoes,
The blackbird whistling
Or just after.”
Good day everyone!
1) SOTD: Joy (Jean Patou) EDT . It’s really gorgeous on this hot summer day!
2) 99F/38c
3) Another friend invasion at the house this upcoming Sunday OY VEY. But seriously, I do welcome the people dropping by- but the shopping and prep for cocktails, lunch, getting bedding ready is A LOT.
Love Joy. You smell divine.
It’s just so lovely!
You are a good friend.☺️
I do try!
Weird day of juggling a lot of household/family stuff. Started out in Cristalle Eau Verte (I am the broken record…), but I so enjoyed my Macy’s spritz of Eau Premiere yesterday that I will put on a dab of No 5 post-shower.
Robin, you reacted to my description of the Chanel counter at the Macy’s. That store is 40 miles from where I live, and it’s both the closest and the poshest mall in my region. I’m surprised that they carry Chanel at all! I know I am not the only NSTer who relies on samples, splits, and the occasional trip to the big city (any big city!) to try new-to-them fragrances. And of course, I also rely on the discussion and reviews here on NST to help me choose what to seek out!
Macy’s Herald Square does not carry the Chanel Exclusifs not the special Hermes’s. Just up the street (not quite as it would take one a good 15-20 brisk walk to get there), Saks carries the entire line as does Bergdorf Goodman (another 8 minutes with some people dodging).
That’s good to know. I can’t imagine the next time I’ll be in NYC. I’d hoped to find a Chanel boutique in some major European city during the Ireland semester, but there’s apparently no freestanding Chanel store in the country, and I didn’t have enough time in Dublin to explore the offerings at the department stores there. And we did not, in the end, travel outside of Ireland. It’s likely that I’ll have one major overseas trip in 2023, so between duty-free and city shops, I will sniff as much as I can! (And who know, if we can make it work, we’ll spend a fews days visiting NYC friends on either side of that trip.)
Nice to know about Saks NYC! I would feel OK going in there, and have done some sniffing around in the past. Not so much BG.
Oh, I am so sorry if it sounded like I was dissing on your mall!! It was more general disappointment that you could not find a better selection.
I doubt the Macy’s near me is any better, but if I drive 40 minutes I can get to King of Prussia which is more upscale and has decent perfume shopping, or at least, used to — I have not been there since covid started.
When I was still seriously into testing, I relied on samples in the mail too, plus occasional trips to NYC. Have not done that in years!
No, no, no — I didn’t take it that way. It’s just that I often struggle to convey to people nearer the coasts how very…limited…options are here and so wanted to emphasize that in my reply. 🙂
Gotcha!
I’m in She Was an Anomaly, so now I am wondering if we’ve had an ELDO CP–at my Guerlain suggestion was totally old news!
I think I have enough from this brand to get me through an entire week.
I have that one too. How do you like it?
I wish it lasted longer (I get about four hours wear), but I like it a lot. I thought it was a little redundant with Santal 33, which I also own, but there were quite a few enablers on this forum . . . and, well, the rest is history.
😂
I like the idea of an ELdO CP!
Me too!
Me three!
Me four!
Sort of…
https://nstperfume.com/2019/01/18/friday-scent-of-the-day-1-18/
I did that long alphabet series over a couple years, because I did not want to pick projects focusing on smaller / harder to find niche brands, since I figured not that many people would be able to participate?
We could always start the alphabet again, I guess.
Our damp and soggy weather continues, but it’s a lot milder than the last couple of weeks. For no particular reason, Frederic Malle’s Noir Épices has leapt to mind for today.
Sounds like a good pick for damp and soggy!
There was a copious amount of rain late afternoon, it was badly needed and it’s now a fresh 19C.
I spent the day in Jo loves Red Truffle, a gourmand fig but tonight for the CP I switched to Eau Orenière, the lemony one in the tall bottle.
Smoothie was frozen summer fruits, banana and yogurt.
Jo Loves Red Truffle was/is a strange one. I was rather impressed something that odd was included in the perfume collection.
Yes, I can see that, it reminds me a little of l’Artisan Caligna, it’s
easy to wear I find, I like it in winter too.
We were supposed to get copious rain and some thunder, but instead we got a few sprinkles. Oh well.
Weather forecast not always reliable then, here the drought has been shocking.
I’m in No. 5 today with the body creme on my arms combined with several sprays of the dry oil. I think I appreciate the scent a bit more today; maybe it’s because it’s hot out. I seem to remember No 5 L’eau being wonderful in heat too.
No.5 L’Eau works for me year-round!
Me too, but I do use some of the other iterations of No. 5 during the cooler months.
Too hot for my Chanels today so I am wearing one spritz of Pivoine Suzhou. I think I need more peony perfumes.
I don’t think I have one at all! And come to think of it, not sure we’ve done a peony cp either.
Laundry day today! It was a pity to spend such a nice weather day inside doing chores.
SOTD = more Alien Aqua Chic EdT today.
Getting close to thunking!
We were laundry twins. I still have a load to go through since I had to come to work.
Maybe. Since my sample is in an opaque vial, I don’t know how much I have left. I got 2 good sprays out of it today, as opposed to the pathetic little squirts that sometimes happen with vials.
At least you got it done!
Yep. Have to admit that felt good!
Issey Miyake Pleats Please L’eau and Marissa Zappas Honey Rose. Love both. Going back for more of both.
Happy Hump Day!!
Oh nice!
SOTD = Chanel Sycomore EDT
Inspired by the one and only SheriG. I say this is Chanel No.19-adjacent: lightly fizzy, greenish, spicy vetiver.

Bathrobe person scheduled a call today and when she saw that there were only 11 people on the call (including herself), she said oops, she forgot to check people’s calendar. 🤦🏻♀️ She never does and so what’s new?
I feel sorry for the people who have to report to Bathrobe Person.
She acquired a few people just earlier this year. The problem is that she does not trust anyone and thinks she does a great job, but she doesn’t.
Insecure people can be like that.
Hold up, I must have missed the backstory on bathrobe person. Please don’t tell me this is someone who does a zoom call in her…bathrobe?!
Heh, you did. She had never ever once shown herself on Zoom so I’ve taken to calling her bathrobe person with unwashed unkempt hair and bad breath.
Lol
From sample stash for the CP: Chanel Les Exclusifs Eau de Cologne. Today, it is so light. I’ve learned from my Les Exclusifs No. 22 that what seems light one wearing can turn itself around. But here we are. Also, citrus and tonka bean are not notes that that generally float my boat. It has vanished now after a refresh around 4:15pm. I will revisit it and thunk the lovely, gifted to me sample for sure. I did my part for Thrift Shop Day by stopping in Plato’s Closet. Yesterday, I was there too (I can explain 🙂 ) and did pick up a bottle of Aramis for <$10! In our college town, it's back to school week, and I am sure lots of "the kids" will be bring their unwanted fragrances so if I need something from the grocery store in the same shopping center (see, I told you I can explain) I will be stopping by more frequently.
I just recently went through a sample of that one too. In one day, lol. It is pretty but soooo fleeting. I would never pay what they are asking for that one. You smelled great while it lasted!
Thrift Shop Day! I love ‘em and I love the thrill of the chase.
I’m in 1957 today. Sometimes I like this one during the wear, but mostly it’s just too perfumey for me. To the freebie pile it goes!
Wait, what?! I love that one. If you are interested in some kind of a swap, shoot me an email…
Oh, I wasn’t specific about the source. I sprayed from a little sample that only has a couple of sprays left in it. I’m sorry, mtg!
Ah, no worries!😀
RIP Mori Hanae. She was 96.
Not a good month for Japanese designers 😔
Oh, I missed that in the evening news…
